First time going to this salon. I had a Groupon for a single process color. I arrived early & my stylist Eric was able to see me straight away. He was chatty, friendly & put me completely at my ease. If I could give no stars, I would!! Here goes the story of my first and last visit here: I came in with an allover brown color and showed Armando a picture of myself from about a year prior, with ombré hair. I asked Armando if he thought he could achieve the look and he said yes, but that I would need to sign a waiver in case my hair burned off since we were going lighter. That was a red flag - never been asked to do that before! Why didn't I leave then?? Ugh hindsight is 20/20. Anyway I sign the handscribbled letter his receptionist provides and he gets started on my hair. Only he is not using foils, brushes, a cap, etc.; no, he has separated my hair into 3 sections (left, right, back) and is SCOOPING bleach from the container into his hands and rubbing it through the first section of my hair from about my ear down to the ends. Omg why did I not run to the sink and get the hell outta there!! I check with him to make sure this is the best way to achieve the look and he tells me not to worry!! He wraps each of the 3 sections in foil, round and round and round and sticks me under a hair dryer. I am under there no less than an hour and a half. I check one of my hair sections and it is ORANGE. I tell Armando it's not lifting past orange and he slops more bleach on each section, rewraps foils horizontally, tells me not to worry, and I go back under the dryer. Came out another hour or so later with the bronziest most uneven hair. They passed the buck on who was going to dry it, obviously because they all knew how awful of a job it was!!! It should be noted that upon expressing my extreme unhappiness to him privately, Armando never apologized, and insisted it looked like the picture I showed him. I will let this photo of what I wanted vs what I got speak for itself. This is the next day at work - smh did I really let myself be seen like this(?) If you know what is good for you, you will not come here and see Armando!! He is not looking out for your best interest and he will yes you until you actually believe that you might come out of there looking even semi-okay (you won't). PS he waived the cost but really he should have been paying me the money it took to fix this hack job! read more

I decided to book a haircut and blow-dry with Armando Cassano because of the good reviews but that was a big mistake. I showed him a photo of the bob I wanted but he said it wouldn't work for my hair and that he knew what to do. My mistake was putting my trust in him. Instead of communicating exactly what his idea was, he cut my hair extremely short. He may have been right about my hair, but I don't know because he didn't give me the opportunity to see how the bob I wanted would look. It was very unprofessional of him not to tell me how drastically his idea was different from mine. He also didn't blow-dry my hair, so once I left the salon and it dried it was even shorter. But it gets worse. He cut my NECK. He slid the scissors along my neck and left a long cut. He didn't apologize or even acknowledge it. I wasn't bleeding so at the time I thought it was a little nick. But at home I could see how long it was and the stinging kept me up that night. My doctor said I would have needed a tetanus shot if I wasn't up to date. I called him the following day and his first response was "I noticed it when you came in". I was shocked at how easily he lied, but I guess he was prepared to do so. I told him I was worried about infection and he tried to assure me that the scissors were clean. Then he said, "You didn't see it when I gave you the mirror." (Which is true because I wasn't wearing my glasses). So, which is it, it already existed when I walked in or it was there but I didn't see it? I was VERY disappointed with what I paid for. It cost me a total of $60.00 (not including tip) for a very quick trip to the salon. I was in an out in 20 minutes. I felt like I was more in a barbershop than a beauty salon. I'd recommend the salon if you are more into a quick, barbershop or Supercuts type of a haircut, not for a real detailed beauty salon type of a cut. Worst haircut ever!! Two stars because he's a super nice guy! But i didn't think it was possible for my hair to look more yellow and damaged than what I started with but Armando managed to do that. In addition to the maskless salon (expressive unvaccinated person was there going on about it) I wasn't given a proper gown to protect my clothes so I am also out a shirt and a cashmere sweater because of the bleach that ran the whole time onto my clothes. read more

I gave a try to this salon because I bought the BuyWithMe voucher for a hair cut. I had Tina and she was very friendly and nice as a person, but her technique wasn't good at all. I brought a hair style photo with me so that she could have a clear idea of what I wanted, but she gave a look at it for a second and started working on my hair. Less than an hour later, I ended up with a bad hair style. Now my hair does not flow nicely, and I really regret that I actually spent $25 + tip to make myself unhappy. Furthermore, I found out that her regular price is $35, so I only saved $10 with the BuyWithMe deal. I am new to the area and decided to try this place out for a consultation to get extensions. Once I met with the stylist, we decided to go ahead with getting the extensions. I told them that I was going for vacation and I wanted to get them in before I left. This was still 3 weeks out and we decided on a day and made all the necessary arrangements. One hour prior to the actual appointment, I got a call from the salon stating that the hair color was off and that they would have to cancel my appointment. They basically didn't bother to check and make sure they were ready for me before an hour of the appointment. That is ridiculous considering that I was doing a $500 procedure planned weeks in advance. I am someone who spends a lot on my hair and this experience has definitely turned me off and I will make sure anyone I know doesn't go there!! Horrible customer service and utter disregard for commitment. Yuck!! read more

Found this hair salon on group on. I had Brenda give my granddaughter a haircut and me a Partial Highlights, Moroccan oil Treatment, Blow Dry, and Style. Brenda did a fantastic job and the color was right on point! I had photo's 2 days later and they came out great! Everyone asked me where I had gotten my hair done and I was proud to say Brenda! I just got my haircut there today and I agree with the poor reviews here that it was bad customer service. I arrived on time and had to wait a few minutes, which is fine. I showed the hair stylist a picture of what I wanted my hair to look like. She told me that there are a lot of layers on that style in a manner like she doesn't think it is a good idea to layer the back of my hair. I told her that is fine and to just keep it one length in back and layer in front. As I sat down, I told her I did not need my hair washed because I just washed myself. This lady told me to stand after I just sat down and I was a bit confused. I thought she wanted to see my hair when I was standing...nope, she was trimming and cutting my hair for at least 5 minutes before she let me sit down. This is the first time ever that I had to stand for a haircut. Before she finished with the cut, she kept asking me if I wanted my thick hair to appear thin. I examined the back and my hair doesn't have the shape I wanted. I asked her if layering it would make it look better. She told me she didn't have time and I should have told her so in the first place. I did and she was against it. I already saved her time without a wash. She wanted to finish up with me although the salon was practically empty. I reminded her that I wanted a blow dry so she reluctantly did it. Sloppy job. She got hair all over me when she removed the cape that was draped over me. I didn't even want to tip her but I did although she did not deserve it. Armando Cassano is a great spot to get a hair cut. Tina does a good job with my hair. She also cuts my daughter's hair and it always looks terrific. It was hard to find a place where my daughter and I can both get great haircuts. I found other salons and stylists are reluctant to take on young children. Tina was great with my daughter. The rest of the staff is curious and very professional. They are always willing to work with my schedule and they make it easy for me to get in and out with my daughter so we can proceed on with our busy lives. I am a married working mom with a senior level position and I can always count on them to make me look great as I have to travel on business quite a bit because I am speaking at an event or doing corporate training. In addition to all of that, its a good value. We do not have to break the bank every time my daughter and I get a hair cut and I get an eyebrow arch. read more

As I was getting ready to write this review, I read another that detailed the exact problem my daughter had while in the hands of Armando Cassano. If only we had read the reviews (Nina H.) first! The only difference was Armando also gave my daughter a "haircut" as well. It was very uneven, and looked like it was done by a complete amateur, not the owner of the salon. After my hairdresser fixed the haircut, and did what she could about the color and condition of my daughter's hair, she told me to get my money back. When I called and spoke with Armando about the horrible job he did, he asked for my number and said he would call me back. I did not hear from him. Just went to the salon today and used my BostonDeals coupon for a single process color. Armando the owner was the stylist, and he was fine. Except that I have had color in the past and this was supposed to be a complete one process color. As I was checking out, the girl said it would be an additional $25.00!! What?? She said Armando said he used extra color because he put it throughout my hair. What??? She said the coupon was just for a touch up, and I showed her the coupon which said "ONE PROCESS". I said if I had never used hair color they would have to put it all over my head, too. Armando came in and said basically too bad, and I asked why he didn't let me know or ask me before he did it. He finally said "forget it" and huffed off. Man!! Stupid businessman. I was looking for a new salon, was going to tip him even though he was the owner, but instead I left pissed and will never go back. So after a "$60 haircut" why am I back at home cutting my own hair? SO disappointed and felt so deceived after walking out of Armando Cassano hair salon. First off, walking in there, I thought I was going in for a $25 haircut. I looked online to check the prices and it doesn't say anything about the levels of stylists which other salons clearly state. Armando never mentioned nor asked if I wanted a "senior" stylist haircut, especially after he booked my appointment and I had mentioned I had a groupon which he told me I couldn't use that day. Armando's haircuts are pretty cheap, and they're close to where I work, so I was doing ok with it for a little while, though he never quite gets it right - get what you pay for, I guess. Then, he gave me the worst haircut of my life. Like actually. As he was cutting I said "is that as short as it looks?!" and he said "no." Yeah... that was a lie. Ok... so I paid and left, and when I got home I realized that I never should have paid for such a bad haircut. I had been going to this salon for a few years, and did enjoy my experience. During that time, I wouldn't say I had a hairstyle, it was just long with some slight angles to frame my face. I had been mentioning doing something more sophisticated to my hair stylist, but she was not very helpful in generating ideas. I was kind of shocked- she routinely changed hair color from black to red to purple, etc, and had a really funky, modern cut. At my last visit, I brought a picture of the haircut I wanted- a long bob with side swept bangs. I was told that it wouldn't work for me, and I should just stay with my current style. I was taken aback- she would not do what I wanted at all- I was committed to the change! I told her that I just did not feel pretty; I ended up getting the bangs and the same boring cut. I was understandably upset that what I wanted was so easily dismissed. I know that they are the hair expert, but I was never given reasons for why it wouldn't work- that I could have wrapped my head around. I truly believe that she thought I would have flipped to have 4 inches chopped off, even if I requested it! I ended up going to another salon a few weeks after and got the cut I wanted, and it's perfect. I really did like the salon and the stylist, but getting a boring cut when I wanted to mix things up did cause me to leave. I will say, they do killer hair color but it's pricey! read more

The price of my cut/foil increased SIGNIFICANTLY and they didn't tell me that before my service, so, not great to find out that your once $90 cut/highlight is now $150!! I suppose it was because the woman got promoted or something, but I think it's kind of crappy not to make that clear to clients. I'm not one to make a fuss, so I paid and left, but it's not what I had planned to spend. I never leave feeling great about my cut/color. It seems like no one is really paying attention to what they're doing and instead socializing amongst themselves... and I don't necessarily want to overhear drama about other stylists when I'm just trying to relax for a minute. Also, one of the women was vaping during another client's service (??!!) and it seems like the stylists are always on smoke breaks (including the guy who seems to be the owner?) which is kind of unprofessional. Also, if you don't smoke/are an ex-smoker, smelling cigarettes on someone else's clothing as they're cutting your hair is pretty unpleasant. I had a groupon for a partial foil and keratin treatment....Erin did my hair......the partial foil she did was really not even noticible....she said she did a " light foil" I guess that's what you get with a GROUPON. I felt like I was cheated....especially since I already PAID FOR IT! SAVE YOUR MONEY DON"T BUY THIS GROUPON NOT WORTH THE MONEY. This past week I called for an emergency hair appointment and they were able to fit me in that same afternoon. Both Tina and Eric were AMAZING. I had to go from a rose gold back to a natural-looking blonde for an important meeting and they somehow made it happen without bleaching or any damage done to my hair. I've been going to Tina for awhile and she's fantastic. She's always so friendly and makes you feel like an old friend, plus she's great at foiling. And Eric is my new color guru--the man knows his stuff and gave me a gorgeous balayage. I highly recommend both of them. Love this place! read more

Went here once...and won't go again. I had a certificate and decided to try a new place...one that I had passed by many times since I lived down the street from it and thought maybe it's a trendy little place. I was looking for a trendy cut and foil by a trendy stylist....definetly the wrong place/stylist Straight to the point.....the owner was friendly, the stylist was not. Seeing that there were only 2 others working there I assumed she was the top stylist besides the owner...I hope not ...with a cold personality she did not make a customer comfortable or want to come back....not someone I would ever want representing my salon...... After our consultation - the foiling began. Color looked ok in the light.....after I asked for it to be dried a bit to see the real color.....not really what I was thinking it would be but in the light it didn't look bad - I thought I really liked it.....and for the cut I asked to cut a bit more while my hair was still wet...seemed like a problem....maybe I was an annoyance sitting in the chair - though I hardly spoke just smiled and took it all in. With color spilled on my face ...never a sorry just "I'm messy"..... Needless to say I ended up with a bill more than 2x what I was thinking it would be...(plus a white shirt with color all over the neck ).....I asked why and the girl at the desk looked baffled herself and said that the stylist said it was for a cut, color, and foil with 3 colors...(looks like 2 colors to me)...if I was to pay that much I should of felt like 2 million dollars and have been in NYC or at least on Newbury!!!! read more

My experience at Armando has been really great. For a couple years I've been looking for a new stylist and on a whim I made an appointment with Ilene and let me tell you she is FANTASTIC! My cuts had not been growing out well (always a sign of a bad cut) but she gave me great looking cuts from day one. We established a great rapport so I took the plunge and told her to take it all off and give me a short style. It's the best haircut I've had in 15 years, it looks great EVERY DAY and I can get it dried and styled in 20 minutes. Ilene also did my color and it looks great, very natural and flattering. I also think their prices are good for a high end salon because I compare them to Newbury St. in terms of service quality. read more

I have been driving by this salon for years and the products in the window always made me want to go in so when I came upon a Groupon I decided to try it. I had Tina as a stylist and she was great. I was a few minutes late due to traffic and I felt awful but they didn't seem to mind. Tina was very professional and gave me a great cut and blowdry. The atmosphere is great and the full prices are very very reasonable for the quality of the salon. I have a been a salon hopper for many years now but I think I will stay here for a while! I went to redeem my Groupon for full single hair coloring. The receptionist said that the lady who does groupons is on maternity leave so I'll have to pay the full amount instead. I told her I didn't know that, so she was kind enough to say that she will respect the Groupon deal and asked the owner to do it instead. When the owner saw my hair he said he thinks I need highlights and not single color. I told him that I know this will cost more so I'd rather stick with the single color. I was mortified by my experience with the OWNER of the salon. I have been seeing Brenda for about a year and she recently went out on maternity leave. I had an appointment scheduled with Tina, and they called me the day prior to ask if I would mind having my hair cut by Armando, the owner, which I did not have any issue with. I am a new mother, just 4 months postpartum and I don't get many free moments to myself--and therefore I was looking forward to the time away to relax for a few minutes. When I sat in the chair, I quickly noted to him that "I was 4 months postpartum and that my hair was really falling out a lot, so not to be alarmed when he went to wash it". When we got over to the washing station, he then asked "so when are you due?"--and I was confused by this question since he had also just indicated that he has a 17-month old child at home. He washed my hair in about 5.3 seconds--I have no idea if he actually even put any product in my hair during this time. When we sat back into the chair, I looked at the 15 different pairs of scissors--none of which looked like they had been cleaned between uses. He asked the typical questions--married, what does my husband do...etc. Made a comment that I probably tell my husband to just get off of me since I was a new mother and had no interest in being physical. At one point, the receptionist brought the mail to him and he handed me an InStyle magazine and told me that the woman on the cover was me--some model in a size 0 ballgown--now remember, I am 4 months postpartum--some things you just shouldn't talk about with a new mother--especially one that you have NEVER met before. The appointment lasted all of 15 minutes and I left feeling worse than I did when I walked in the door. It was the most uncomfortable experience I have ever had at a salon and while I have loved Brenda, I will not be able to go to this establishment ever again. read more

THIEVES. NOT AS ADVERTISED. I was presented with bill that was $55 more expensive than the prices they publish. I booked for a highlight and was given a bylage, a $20 more expensive treatment. Armando, who did my hair, did not offer that the treatment was more expensive BEFORE he did it, just charged more money for something I didn't know he was doing. Likewise they say $25 for a haircut, really they mean $60. No notice before more than doubling the price. When I complained, they didn't care. I won't be going back there. Buyer beware. read more

I've gone to this salon 3 times and every time I've seen the same person, Armando himself. He's friendly, talkative and seems passionate about hair. The first time I saw him I had let my pixie haircut grow out for a couple of months because I wanted a particular style in mind, kind of like a feminine mohawk style. I brought a picture, explained what I wanted and he got to work. He cut it a little shorter than I wanted, but overall it was a pretty good cut and he laid down the groundwork for my next cut, so it would be exactly what I wanted, or so I thought. The first cut was $55, and I left a $10 tip, so it was $65. Second time I went, was about a month and a half later. Spoke to him about what I wanted, brought the same picture and just stated that I wanted the side trimmed and not too much off the top. He was excited, got to cutting and I don't know if he was too busy talking but he gave me a normal pixie cut, not what I wanted at all. Throughout the cut he kept saying he was "texturizing" it, but he was just chopping it all off. And the time I had spent growing out my mohawk was chopped off in a matter of minutes. Again, not a bad cut, but not what I wanted at all. Cut and tip cost $65 again. Last time I went was just last month. I had let my hair grow out and had gone to Capri Salon in Legacy place to get the feminine mohawk that I orginally wanted and they did a great job. I rocked that cut for about 3 months and loved it. But with the holidays coming around I decided to do a short pixie again and give Armando one last try. It was early morning Xmas Eve and when I walked in Armando recognized me right away and welcomed me inside. Explained to him what I wanted and he got to work. Washed my hair (which he actually isn't very good at, took literally less than 2 minutes, which is kind of a bummer because I really enjoy that part). Anyway the whole time I was there one of the stylists was talking very loudly on her phone, making it hard for me to hear Armando as we were talking. And as UPS, Fed Ex and other delivery services were dropping off packages, Armando would go and hand them Xmas presents thanking them for their service. Which is very sweet, but made my normally 30 minute haircut last almost 50 minutes because he stopped so frequently to chat people up. In the end, the cut was probably the worst of the three. A very short pixie that when I got home to inspect some more was cut very choppy, sides were not the same length and I had to have a friend even out the back because there were strays sticking out everywhere. And to top it off, the same cut cost $60 this time, with a $10 tip costing a total of $70. If I'm going to pay that much to cut off an inch or 2 of my hair, I'd rather go to Salon Capri and get a QUALITY cut, with great customer service and nice head massage! For a more reasonably priced cut that is still better than Armando's, try Liquid Hair Studio in the South End. I really wanted to like Armando's but its just not worth the money. read more

I've never written a review for a bad cut. I recently moved to Dedham and needed my short hair trimmed. I went in and told her that I basically wanted the same hair style, just trimmed up. I was very clear what I wanted and described how I wore my hair and did my hair in the morning. She said she wanted to give it some texture and I agreed but said repeatedly that what I didn't want, the mom short hairstyle. When she was finished I was so unhappy. She gave me exactly what I didn't want and when I pointed out the parts that I didn't like, the short bangs with the long sides, shorter on top and longer on bottom (yes, basically a mullet) she said to go home and play with it. I've tried to fix it, but I've now realized I need to go somewhere else to get it repaired. I seriously have never hated my hair like this. I have been searching for a new hairdresser for about 3 years now and yesterday I finally found Armando! I haven't been this pleased with a hair cut or hairdresser in so long, he gave me an amazing cut and blow out and I couldn't have left the salon any happier! Usually after a hair cut I'm unsure if I like it, as soon as he was done styling it I was in love! It was a bonus that everyone was super friendly and welcoming!
