WHAT WAS DONE AT SHEAR ILLUSIONS WAS A DRY AT BEST, ALONG WITH A STYLE, WHICH I COULD HAVE DONE AT HOME. (i.e. hair blowdryed and then curled with a get this, HOT TOOLS product. You know the one that's like $30 at Sally Beauty Supply.) My hair was washed and conditioned. It was NOT given any sort of product prior to her drying my hair. It was NOT sectioned by clips. It was NOT dried in sections. It was NOT brushed by a round brush. It was NOT targeted with a blow dryer because the blow dryer did NOT have a nozzle! It was NOT styled correctly or smoothed over. It WAS dried laying flat by being hit wait hot air which caused frizz, and kinks at the crown, hair line and by my ears. I'm heading home right now infuriated because literally what she did, I could have done myself at home and not charged $36 to do and it still needs hairspray, teasing, and body at the root. If you want an amateur hair dresser who claims 18 years experience, go right ahead. Absolutely waste of time, so disappointed.

I went yesterday for the first time to get my hair done by Shelagh and I can honestly say I found a Hair Stylist I can finally trust and finally enjoy getting my hair done! I had dead, damaged blonde hair that had three different tones in it...Her and Karen were friendly in their approach and they took their time to explain what I should do and what they think would look best. I wanted to cut off about 4-5 inches and I wanted a Honey Golden Blonde & that is exactly what I got!!!! I usually leave the hair salon crying... but finally I left with a big smile. I'm super pleased and happy about Shear Illusions, not ONE single complaint.

Brooke took the time to talk with me about my hair before shampooing - this is always appreciated! We talked about how I like to style my hair and the products that I like to use. We agreed on a style and cut before going to shampoo. As a first time customer, I was treated to a detox shampoo, which was really great as I use a lot of products in styling, and it was great to get off build up of products. The results are terrific. I am very pleased with my cut and styling, and I'm kicking myself for going into Boston for cuts when Philosophe is practically in my back yard. Last note... the salon is beautiful! From the street, it looks like a ho-hum street front salon. It's not. It is gorgeous inside, and I felt very pampered in the process, which, for me, is part of the experience. Well done, ladies! Gift certificate buyer beware! My boyfriend purchased a $150 gift certificate at Elle. When I…read morewanted to use it to get my haircut, Michelle (owner) took the certificate and wrote "eye lashes" on it. Unbeknownst to us, there is a "hair" service and a "skin" service at this salon. Even though I had a certificate from Elle, it can only be used toward one of those services, not both. My certificate, could only be used for "skin" service. Strike 1, I paid cash for my haircut anyway. I made another appointment to use my certificate for lash extensions for the "skin" service with the other Michele. When I arrived, "skin" Michele kept asking me how I wanted my lashes done, even though I answered her numerous times. She also indicated that she knew that I went across the street to BE Beauty for lash services, her competitor. With that comment, I felt like I was being stalked, and I did not feel her questions were to make sure I got a good lash design, it was more to let me know that she knew I went across the street to her competitor. I felt so uncomfortable that I left the certificate on the table and walked out. Strike 2. I tried to get the money back through the bank but was denied. Since I left the certificate on the table, there was no proof the confusion and poor customer service actually happened. Strike 3. I spoke with Michele (owner) to ask for the money back. She explained the "skin" "hair" thing. I don't want products, I certainly don't want my lashes done there, I just want my money back. I explained that she needs to indicate the difference upfront on her gift certificate purchases with new clients, that if there is a difference her clients should know. My boyfriend and I truly didn't know there was a difference. We agreed that Michele "skin" was the person who I needed to speak to regarding the $150 refund. She was to call me back, but its been over a week and she hasn't called yet. I'd be very happy to receive it via venmo. If you buy a gift certificate here make sure it's for a service you want and can use.

I ended up getting a credit for the bio ionic service, since it was discovered that perhaps it was the product that was the issue. I decided not to go forward with any other straightening services at this time as I didn't want my hair to fall out. So they put me with another stylist Carolyn. She was excellent. She listened to exactly what I wanted and I showed her pictures and she achieve the perfect look I had in my mind. I would like to thank the owner Christine for making sure that I was satisfied as well. I will definitely be back because of the quality of products used and customer service.

Unfortunately, I was very put off by the way that my stylist presented herself at my last appointment. Quite frankly, she smelled of booze and the night before. I tried to ignore it but her colorful language and vulgar stories made me feel very uncomfortable for most of my appointment. I do not want to name names, I assume that if one staff member felt comfortable demonstrating this behavior then it is properly a widespread issue. Great salon but customer service needs to be fine tuned.
