Juan Acevedo has been cutting my hair for over 15 years and he is truly amazing! I have gone to many stylists in my life but Juan REALLY, REALLY knows how to do hair. My hair is challenging but he always does a great job. He is a true artist! Even my husband now goes to Juan. read more

Juan Acevedo. You can't go wrong with his inate ability to create the best of you. Your hair will shine.

I don't know how they schedule things. They stood us up on Wednesday, said we need to reschedule on Friday. That's fine. The owner asked if I wanna do 12 or 2pm on Friday through text. I said 2pm. Through text. And the owner called us on Friday around 11am, blaming us missed the appointment at 11am. And there will be another client at 2pm. Told us to go to gaslight other salon. When did we even talk about 11am? I didn't notice on the phone call cuz I just woke up not for so long. It's a mess. And they tried to blame us. read more

Salon 29 - Hair Salons Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

Ladies: This place is not only conveniently located but it's nice and cozy! I like the personal, individual treatment I get from WILLIAM. In some salons they play 'favorites' and take on multiple clients at once and choose whom they prefer over who was there first, but with William it is all about you. The prices are reflective of 'downtown Chicago' but nowhere near the ritzy Oak Street and Streeterville snobby areas, and totally worth it! It's a nice, quiet spot above Wabash, not filled with bratty kids, tourists and English is spoken. You gotta put your hair in William's hands. read more

This is one of those reviews I've sat on for over a month because it was hard to write. I had a great experience at Salon 29 except for one pesky thing, and I didn't know how to weight it in my overall experience. So, first, what was wonderful: my haircut and experience with William. He was friendly and did a great job. I'm not very adventurous with my cuts -- I'm fairly particular about the length of my hair and the layering, and he deviated from this but in a good way. He got me a teensy bit out of my comfort zone but was still very skilled at asking my opinion throughout the process. He was also very thoughtful about my time. I had called to get in during my lunch break, and he asked me at several points during the styling how we were doing on time. Fortunately, he still had time to curl and blow out my hair, and it looked fantastic. Also, the decor in the salon is unique -- lots of purple and green beads and chandeliers -- very inviting. But what I didn't like was what happened right before I left. I was so pleased with my hair that I decided to buy the product William used -- a hair oil. When I asked him how much it was, he told me it was $29. Overhearing this, the owner (Juan?) said, "No, that's $44." William: "Oh, NOW it's $44." It felt very sketchy. Since I was a first time customer and I had found the salon via a Groupon (they're still available as Hair by William), I assumed he was trying to upsell me because the styling itself was not particularly profitable and perhaps he knows Groupon's bad reputation when it comes to return business. So, why not make a profit while he had me, right? And it worked, because I bought the product at that price and felt extremely foolish immediately after. It is my own stupidity for not just Googling it before making the purchase, because, when I did this, I found it selling for as low as $15 (but averaging $25). So, it's hard to penalize William's excellent service and skill for this interaction and yet it's left a bad taste in my mouth regarding this salon, especially because this was the owner's doing and not a new hire who didn't know any better. All of this said, I'm not sure I'd recommend against going here. I just wouldn't buy their products with their mysterious suggested pricing. read more

Still going to Salon 29. Most people get bored with their hairdresser and switch after a length of time. Me? I'm from the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" school of thought. I've followed Juan to all his various places of employment and was thrilled when he opened up his own salon. Back in my 20s when I had no money, I would forego food just so Juan could keep my carrot top in tip-top shape. As it was the 80s, this usually meant a perm that would rival any of the 80s hair bands. I still trust nobody else but Juan with my crimson tresses. read more

So I came to get my hair done twice. The first time I called to confirm and sent stylist a text. He came a few minutes late and styled very well. I decided to return again and was happy with service the first time. However the 2nd time was worse. He was over an hour behind. But squeeze me in. Left the conditioner on for two minutes. Pissed and feeling like he is very unprofessional. :-( I called and text him the day and week before to confirm. Common courtesy would have been to text me or call to say your running late not have me show up and wait on you and be told Salons have a 4 hour window. I was given a groupon gift for my second visit.... read more

My first time meeting Michael from Salon 29 was in April of this year. My friend Rachel had booked him for her wedding so he was doing everyone's hair. I'm always nervous about people doing my hair, mainly because I had a bad experience with another hair stylist just a month before for another wedding. Lets just say I don't enjoy looking like Shirley Temple. So I had mentioned to Michael that my hair does not curl well. But he did his magic and I had the most gorgeous curls and they last all night. We all looked perfect for Rachel's wedding. Looked so great that I hired him for my own wedding. He came out on a Friday morning, from downtown all the way out to Des Plaines, set my hair with my tiara it was absolutely perfect. It helped that we did 2 trial runs before hand. He's so wonderful that after my wedding I went back for my post wedding trim. Again, absolutely LOVE it afterwards. Michael is wonderful! I trust my hair in his very capable hands. read more

I do not usually write comments on websites, but I MUST say something quickly about William at Salon 29. I absolutely love him. He has done miracles with my hair. When I first went to him about 2 years ago, my hair was unhealthy, uneven, broken off and in my opinion damaged to no return. I thought when I sat in his chair he would look at it and say it needed a lot of work and charge me all kinds of outrageous rates. But he didn't! He encouraged me and said if I continue to come to him, he would get my hair to a healthy state. Not only did he get it back healthy, it's a nice length, he gives me all types of creative hairstyles by which I've loved them all and he knows hair! And the prices are not outrageous! I HIGHLY recommend him! Thank you William. You are the best. read more

If I could give William 6 stars, I would. I went to Salon 29 yesterday on a break from school. I had a groupon for a $32 wash/cut/style and it looked like as good a place as any. William and I were the only people there. I was given bottled water and asked my opinion on what I wanted done with my hair. He had look-books available as well. The shampoo job was nice, the cut was quick and exactly what I was hoping for, but the STYLING blew me away! I walked out of there looking like I just spent $132 on my hair, not $32. I have extraordinarily baby-fine hair and am very self-conscious about how thin it is. William made it look easily twice as thick as usual. I got compliments all day. Will not be going anywhere else in Chicago for haircuts. read more

My son gave me a gift certificate for a cut and color with Juan at Salon 29. I'm always a bit leery when going to a new salon, but I was blown away by the results. The color was absolutely gorgeous and the cut was actually the best I've ever had. As a bonus, the shop is cozy and comfortable and Juan is a doll. Fun and funny, and totally attentive while you're with him. Can't imagine going anywhere else for my hair. read more

Michael Sacramento is my hair hero. Several years ago I had a positively ghastly haircut at some other place, and I thought I was going to have to wear a hat for 6 months. Michael saved the day, however, and I have trusted him with my tresses ever since. Whether you need a new look, a special 'do for an event, or just a trim, Michael will find the style that fits you best. read more

Here's the highest praise for my first haircut at Salon 29. One - after the cut lots of people said to me "great haircut-is your hair really thick?" It's not. In fact it's quite thin. Two - I had a major audition today. I did my hair myself, 3 weeks after my haircut - the director's first comment "your hair is beautiful." Thanks Juan! read more

I started going to Juan over a year ago. I have long hair, and somehow, Juan makes it a different fun style every single time I see him. He just tweaks something, and I look like I have a hair style instead of just long hair. And his coloring abilities - please. My hair looks more natural now than it did BEFORE I started coloring it. Plus, he uses the very best products. He's a genius. read more

Juan is a crack up. Good haircut. Great location. Across from Marshall Fields (will never be Macys to me).

I have been getting my haircut with Juan for years and have never been disappointed. He is an extremely talented stylist and I always receive compliments on my haircut. If I had one gripe, it would be that he does has a tendency to sometimes run late. read more

I gave Juan carte blance and he ran with it. Juan considered and discussed with me my hair texture and type, the shape of my face, the shade of my complexion, my age, and then worked his magic. When I first left Juan's chair, I was a little shocked because I looked so different. Although it took a little getting used to, now (ten days later) I love my hair and have gotten so many complements. I appreciate Juan's skill, professionalism, and expertise. He's my new stylist! read more

Juan has been doing my hair for a long time now. He is the only person who has ever done my hair who gets the color right and knows how to make it look exactly like I want. He is very fast and very good at what he does- he's a color expert. He knows how to match the color to your skin tone so that you look as good as you possibly can. He is also a wonderful human being who makes me cry with laughter, and I'll be damned if he can't decorate a room like nobody's business. read more

I would not recommend this salon or Juan, the stylist, to anyone who is looking for quality work or expects to be treated with respect. I moved recently to the city and needed a new stylist and chose Juan, the owner of the salon, for his years of experience. I chose the salon for its convenient location in the downtown area. I wanted a haircut, blond highlights and blow-dry styling. I got a nice haircut but nothing else. I showed him a picture of the blond color that I wanted my highlights and of the styling. He accomplished neither. It was very difficult to communicate with him since he tends to get defensive if you are vocal and specific about what you want. I had to go back so he could fix the color disaster! The scheduling of this second appointment was very difficult because, even though he had offered me to fix anything I did not like, he blamed me for not liking what he chose to do on my hair. Bottom line: if you want a 21st century style and you know exactly what you want done on your hair, DO NOT GO TO JUAN at Salon 29. He will disappoint you. read more

Salon 29 is so cute and trendy. But the best thing about Salon 29 is Michael Sacramento he has been doing my hair for several years and does a wonderful job every time! His hairstyles and colors are up to date with all the latest trends and you cant beat his prices for a downtown chicago salon. I highly recommend going to see him! read more

I have been seeing Michael, he is the best. The man is an artist in every sense of the word. Not only does he work with me to find the best style for my face but the best cut for my lifestyle. He takes everything into consideration when suggesting a cut and color. Not only has he educated me on what I need to look good but he also has been an educator for future stylists. Michael is a warm and caring person who treats me just like an old friend that he has known since we were children. When I go to see Michael all the stress from my day melts away and I look great, what can get better than that? If you want some one to not only make you look good but feel good too, see Michael. You won't regret it, you will only regret it if you miss out on his experience. read more

Juan is hands down the best stylist I have ever had! Makes me look my best, cuts are done with care and style! Highly recommended.

Been going to Juan since the late 90's. He is a hair guru. Just because someone has the title of hairstylist doesn't mean they know what they are doing. He listens to what you want, and he knows how to assess what you need, he will suggest and not impose. He is fantastic with hair color, hair cut and hair styling. I move to Texas last year, the first three people massacred my hair and the last one cut my hair so bad I cried....the next time I had to travel 1.5 hours away to Austin just to find a decent hairstylist who came close to what Juan does. I miss you Juan....sending HUGS and more HUGS your way!!! read more
