I was looking to change my color and cut last min while on a business trip visiting Chicago and I had seen Johnathan's amazing work and reviews . He knew exactly what I wanted and spoke to me about the process and walked through everything with me.  Needless to say, I was not disappointed. My color and cut is absolutely amazing. We had a wonderful chat during my appointment and he made me feel comfortable while I was at his home studio.  My hair color and cut is so beautiful!  He is a true expert in his field. All I can say is thank you for making me look and feel so special. I cannot wait to show off my  new look at work.  His artistry is unmatched! Thanks Again Johnathan read more

I was out of the country for a year - my hair was a wreck! It was dry and breaking off. Jonathan provided me with an amazing deep condition and a Moroccan Oil treatment! He genuinely cares for your hair!!! The HEALTH of your hair. I left with my hair silky soft and as soon as I stepped outside - compliments came non - stop. My hair is soft, shiny and revived. He gave me a beautiful trim and literally brought my hair back from the dead. I am going to see him regularly. Ladies try him!!! And purchase some of his amazing Morrocan Oil! I'm obsessed! read more

For me, I had hit a point where I was frustrated with Chicago salons. I didn't understand why there were two people doing your hair: one assistant that put the relaxer in your hair and the other the style. Either way trying to find the right stylist since I have moved here has been hard and my hair has taken a toll. I went to Jonathan over the weekend. I admit I initially wasn't sure how the price range was higher than expected given that he worked from his home (I'm a student again so I'm more price sensitive than I used to be). But I found out that the value comes from the knowledge of hair, the professionalism, and the fact the hair comes out looking healthy. I had not seen my hair looking so healthy in a while. I also like the fact that he's nearby (downtown) and fast (!) so you're not waiting or traveling too far for good service. Jonathan is great and I would definitely recommend him to anyone! read more

I made a Yelp account just to review this amazing salon and Jonathon! Before seeing Jon my hair was breaking off every other month, I was frying my natural 4a texture straight through constant heat styling, and I honestly was just a hot mess who had no idea how to maintain my natural hair. Since last year -with Jon's help- my hair went from barely on my shoulders to bra-strap length (at least 3-4.5 inches), with no damage to my natural curl pattern! I've been to most salons specializing in natural African-American hair in Chicago but hadn't encountered a hairstylist that could lay my edges while giving me a modern look. Jonathan not only REALLY CARES about your hair health but listens to styling tips, if you're not happy with your look he isn't either! I cannot say enough good things about this man! Blowouts, weaves, etc, he does it all. Unfortunately I moved out of state and can no longer use his services but if you're looking for an amazing hairstylist in Chicago, look no further :) read more

I went to Jonathan for the first time on a whim for a drastic color change: blonde to plum. He texted me and let me know he was working from his apartment that day (which I'm fine with) about an hour prior to the appointment I had made that day. Once I got there, it quickly began to feel like I was just hanging out with a friend, watching Law and Order (which was on the entire time); he's so charming and has great stories. He did a phenomenal job with both the color and the trim I (desperately) needed; I was completely obsessed. The appointment did run about an hour longer than Styleseat had indicated when I booked, but the quality was well worth the wait. I'll be going back anytime I need a hair service (he literally does it all) and I would recommend him to anyone who asks. read more

Jonathan is just amazing!!!!! My hair is always done to perfection and I always leave feeling like I'm ready for the cat walk. In addition to his professionalism, his personality and knowledge of hair is beyond measure. I've been going to him for several years now and have never had a complaint. read more

One word - AMAZING!!! Jonathan has been very good to me over the past couple of years. He is the only one in Chicago that has been able to give me exactly what I've asked for. Today, I came to Jonathan for my last visit...I am recently engaged and relocating to San Francisco. I needed to get a relaxer and hair cut because I am not sure what awaits me in the Bay Area. I provided Jonathan with a few celebrity hairstyles and he helped me to pick the best one for me. Not only did he style it exactly like I asked but he made it look better. I highly recommend anyone who is tired of looking for a salon to try Jonathan out. He is professional, fun and amazing with hair. Thanks, Jonathan. When I come back to Chicago for visits and need a hair hookup I will be calling you! read more

Came in with a "halfway certain what I want - not really sure how to explain it" left with a "you read my mind and put it all into words". Extreme attention to detail and even came back through at the end with a final suggestion that took great to stunning. Will absolutely be returning! Conveniently located and felt like I was hanging with my best friend! read more

I absolutely agree with the previous yelpers from 2010... finding a professional hair stylist that knows both hair and customer service is hard to come by in the City of Chicago. Jonathon blows me away everytime! He is kind, personable, and gives wonderful tips for maintaining your hair. Last week I went to Jonathon for a hair coloring appointment. I told him I wanted the same hair color as "Oprah". He researched her hair color and absolutely surprised me. He hit it dead on! It's dark brown, with hints of gold and red when it reflects off the light. I absolutely LOVE my new hair color and get compliments on it everyday. I too have natural hair and everytime I leave, my hair is always soft, silky, and flowing. He uses Morrocan oil, which does wonders on my hair. When I leave, my boyfriend always comments on how good my hair looks... and smells! By all means fellow yelpers, you will not be dissapointed! Can't wait to schedule my next appointment (and the prices are very reasonable)! read more

Jonathan is amazing, and simply put- I have not had a better experience anywhere else in Chicago. He does a great job of listening to understand what you want done, and also has an uncanny eye for aesthetics, so his recommendations are sure to bring out your best features. Give him a shot! You won't be disappointed! Tell him LiLi sent you read more

So I started going to Jonathan after seeing what he did for my co-worker's hair. My co-worker has beautiful, thick and long hair and she does not have any chemicals in her hair at all, but looking at her hair you would think she has a wave and color in her hair because her hair looks so healthy. So I went to Jonathan and my hair and my perceptions about hair have changed. I no longer have a relaxed! And my hair always looks good! read more

I really liked the Hair Stylist, Jonathan! His Salon is out of his apartment which creates a really cozy and inviting vibe. He's very professional, and a great stylist! Would definitely recommend, very happy with the results!! read more

Went to Johnathan for the first time today! He did a phenomenal job! I absolutely recommend him to anyone looking for a new stylist !! I had a sew in done and I was completely surprised by the results! He gave me the exact look I was looking for and I'm so excited that he's now going to be my new permanent stylist! Johnathan takes his time with your hair and makes sure he does it right! read more

Got an amazing style from Johnathan........ Love it!!!

I have been going to Jonathan for about a year now and I have yet to be disappointed. He uses great products on my hair and he takes the time to explain how I can keep my hair looking great in between visits. The fact that he can take me in the down town area is great too. I don't have to deal with waiting in a salon all day long. I can make a later appointment. Going to someone's home for services is a little bit different, however, I felt right at home. His space is located in the loop area it is in a really nice building at it is very comfortable. All in all, Jonathan provides great service at an affordable cost. read more

Jonathan is amazing! I went to him a month ago for a conditioning treatment and haircut. He understood exactly what I wanted and the results were as I expected! My hair instantly felt healthier due to the products he used (which I will now be using in between appointments with him). Jonathan is friendly, flexible, and professional. I will definitely book him for future trims and condition treatments! :) read more

There are no words to describe how GIFTED this stylist is. When I found him via Craigslist three years ago, my hair was damaged from years of bad bleaching and color. It was unhealthy and needed a magician. From the very first time I arrived at Jonathan's, I felt at ease with allowing him to do whatever was necessary to bring my hair back to life. He fixed the color and over the years has repaired the damage. My hair has never been healthier or looked better. He's done everything from bleaching, flat-ironing (weekly), and now to extensions. Jonathan has a new way of adding extensions to your hair without damaging anything in the process. I have been to many top salons in Chicago and NO ONE compares to Jonathan. I will never go anywhere else....he truly is amazing. read more

Jonathan is the best, it's just that simple. I came to Jonathan in a state of hair crisis six months ago after getting a really bad and expensive weave installed at another Chicago-area salon with it's own TV show. The weave I received from the other salon was quite an embarrassment for me, because of how poorly it was done, plus it was uncomfortable to wear. Jonathan fixed all that. He took the hair out and we started over again, this time with perfect results. I've been going to Jonathan consistently ever since. Jonathan is easy to work with, professional, and skilled at what he does. I especially appreciate how healthy my hair has been since I started, seeing Jonathan, and the fact that he is more than a hairdresser - he's a full service stylist. He has a real point of view when it comes to what style is best for you - and sometimes we all need that fresh outside perspective. Jonathan isn't the cheapest shop in town, but I'm fine with that because he delivers value. After all, you get what you pay for. read more
