The Enjoy Centre - St. Albert Xmas market last day!

We went there…read morefor their Christmas special event, "Glow" and I'm not sure if they have the same issues all the time or this issues were related to their Christmas special: Parking is a disaster. I was driving around for a while to be allowed to go to one of the parking areas and it seems the traffic was not planned or controlled properly. Then the parking was all icy which is a safety hazard knowing a lot of young and older people walk there. Then we got inside and although it was nice, it wasn't worth the money and energy. I personally didn't feel Christmas spirit and originality. Everything about the setup was very mechanical without soul. Like a robot maybe! I think something like "candy cane lane" is a lot better experience and it gives a feeling that your in a Christmas painting. I will go back there for the market itself after holidays. I think I may enjoy the market better.

One could enjoy oneself here, if one: 1) lived in St. Albert; 2) had lots of money to burn, and 3)…read morehad low expectations of this Centre acting as the greenhouse it replaced. Beautiful space, but better suited for elderly mall-walkers and special events. Truth be told, there are few actual plants, particularly annuals, on offer. They seem to focus more on specialized seasonal plants, like poinsettias and Norfolk pine at Christmas, and decorative items like pumpkins, terrariums, and tropical plants. I came in mid-September for fall bedding plants and was shocked to find there were almost no plants, a few potted mums with tightly closed buds, and that was it. Not even a marigold in the whole place! What perennials they had left were leggy, there were a few scraggly trees and some sad looking pansies. Quite a pathetic showing, shocking that Home Depot and Canadian Tire have better selection! All this greenhouse space, and hardly any plants. I was pretty choked that I had driven all the way to St. Albert and left without a single bedding plant, what a waste of my gas and my time. The Enjoy Centre is actually a wannabe high-end shopping mall, out in a middle of nowhere industrial park. One of the reasons I chose to come out was to hit Evoolution, but I can do that closer to home. There's a spa onsite, an overpriced kitchen store, an overpriced health and wellness shop, and a specialty grocery store akin to Loblaws City Centre market or any Planet Organic. I'm not sure why anyone would come to the Enjoy Centre for such services, and indeed anytime I've visited, these stores are all but empty. The cafeteria is also overpriced and very average. Honestly I'd only come back here for the special events and would maybe do some gift shopping. But I'll never make the drive from Edmonton again just to peruse expensive items I can purchase elsewhere, or to buy plants, if there were any to buy!!

**This is written for the West End location, but thought it would be valuable to share here too…read moregiven it's the same company** My family and I have ordered from Funky Petals countless times over the years and have generally been content with what was sent out. However, my recent experience was highly disappointing. I spent $180 (including fees and taxes) on an arrangement of flowers and mentioned that we didn't require a vase since the recipient has dozens of her own. I placed my trust in their team and was hopeful and assured that the arrangement would be quite robust for that price point. Sadly, this particular one is not at all in line with past orders (see photo and you be the judge) which is very unfortunate given this was meant to be a birthday surprise during a very intense and difficult year. Once I saw a photo of the flowers that were sent, I immediately followed up with Anna, who's apparently in management, to express my concerns and she agreed that the arrangement could've been better and apologized a few times for the poor service. Yet, she personally delivered the flowers and clearly felt they were on par with their standards and kept making excuses as to why the arrangement wasn't fully up to their level and offered me a $50 credit as a gesture of goodwill. She also added that the recipient personally called her to share how "beautiful the flowers were". Something about this didn't sound right, so I followed up with the recipient and she mentioned that Anna actually called TWICE to "check-in" on the flowers, which is not their normal practice and the calls took place after I reached out. Way to put someone on the spot and who's going to complain about a gift on their own B-day!? This is super shady and a terrible business tactic, especially given that she specifically said that the recipient was the one who called her, which she did but after Anna left two voices messages. Um... kind of on the edge of harassment. Needless to say, when I shared how much the flowers cost (which I was embarrassed to admit) the recipient was shocked and was convinced that they cost at most half that amount. At this point, I went back to Anna and requested a refund for the $50, which I felt was fair and was still pretty low considering the flowers looked like they came from a grocery store or gas station complied of low-quality stems of old looking roses that were already open, other lackluster & cheap pieces thrown in, as well as tired and droopy carnations. They should've been embarrassed to put their name on this. They also forgot to add the plant food (for whatever life was left in these flowers) and didn't include their signature chocolate, which wasn't missed anyway, but the point is that they had, even more, misses on their part. In the end, nothing was reimbursed as they "don't issue refunds on store credit". Well, what about a refund for a product that I paid good money for and was way overcharged? How is that ethical? I showed the photo to several people in the YEG area and everyone agreed with me they weren't worth that price point. I would've been more than happy to return the flowers, but Anna initially pretended to try and make the situation better, which I was allowing her to do. However, I had to email her twice to even get an initial response and I also didn't want to ruin the B-day surprise. Anna also didn't respond to my last email, which isn't surprising as it seems evasion is clearly their method of choice in customer service. Definitely never ever using any Funky Petals again and have made sure that anyone I know who used them is aware of this disastrous and unprofessional experience. Considering we didn't at all receive the quality of the product we paid for and the company is too stingy to do refunds, this is in my mind on the verge if not full-on consumer fraud. You've been warned, so good luck if you still choose to throw money away here. Just keep in mind that Safeway would be a better and much more affordable option. And yes, plenty of grocery stores also sell stems birds of paradise - they aren't that exotic anymore.
