We hired Salinas Tuckpointing to rebuild some courses of brick at the top of our chimney, add a crown, and do minor tuckpointing. We were very dissatisfied with the quality of the crew's workmanship, the lack of attention to detail and the unprofessionalism of the owner. The following statements indicate our experience with the crew assigned to our project. The wooden form for the crown was placed over bricks that had been added that day (mortar was not dry yet) causing bricks to fall and damage our air conditioner. The bricks were replaced after the form was attached, but were staggered and unsightly. I texted .... as this was happening and asked him to return to correct the situation. He called me and told me "go back in your home and let the guys finish the job". -- In the opinion of another local masonry company, the crown is defective. It's uneven in height (3.5 - 4.5 inches) with depressions on the top, where water had accumulated, instead of shedding. This would likely cause early failure of the crown. -- Mortar was left all over the bricks. When the project was completed, I pointed this out to the crew. They said that .... would return the following day, inspect the work and wash the bricks. .... did not return the next day. -- General workmanship was sloppy - mortar and debris was left on the roof, in the gutters (which need to be replaced), splashed on the windows, dropped on the air conditioner and ground. -- I had to instruct the crew where tuckpointing needed to be done. Several areas were overlooked and not tuckpointed. -- My request to .... for a Certificate of Insurance was ignored. -- I emailed ..... several times, including pictures of the finished job, requesting him to return to view and correct the problems. Instead of promptly returning to remedy the situation, he responded with false accusations, threats to send our invoice to collections and put a lien on our property. After four weeks, we received an email from his assistant saying... had visited our property and would return to scrub down the mortar and wash the brick. However, by this time, we had contacted other masonry companies who said the only way to correct the chimney's appearance and have the crown function correctly was to remove the work of ... and reconstruct it properly. read more
