Update: The retaining wall now has 12+ large cracks and both sets of steps are peeling badly. Everything is quite literally falling apart and Tony refuses to do anything. I have had 3 contractors tell me that all of the work needs to be torn down and started over which will cost over $12,000 Irish Construction gave me one of the worst experiences of my entire life. I paid $8,000 for porch, stair, and misc exterior work. Since day one the work has been visibly falling apart. Every day, new cracks appear, materials continue to degrade, and now the old concrete underneath is showing through. The back stairs are peeling, revealing the old steps and paint beneath them, because they never removed the old surface before layering new material on top. They had four separate chances to fix them and instead kept layering more concrete over a failing surface. The retaining walls already have multiple large cracks, and they were built without proper drainage, which every contractor I've spoken to says is an issue. The front porch is deteriorating so quickly that the original old concrete is now visible. This is the case for pretty much everything they have done. The quality of work is terrible. The materials and colors are mismatched, and applied sloppily and unevenly. Everything is asymmetrical, crooked, and or bulging. The number of issues is too great for this review. I had to hire another contractor to fix some of the issues. Unfortunately I am out so much money that I can't afford to fix more than a few things and I'm stuck with this mess. Tony and his crew also covered up parts of my home with random slop that I never asked for. I didn't realize how bad everything was until it was too late. I just thought I didn't know better and it would look better the next day. Against my better judgement I paid them in full. My feelings about the work have been validated by hundreds of people. I regret not trusting my gut. When I initially brought up concerns, Anthony, the owner, dismissed them immediately. His response to the visible, undeniable flaws in the work was to call the job "perfect" and insist I was being ridiculous. His only response to criticism has been to blame me and insist that I owe him more money, despite being paid in full--$1,500 more than the original quote. Tony does not take criticism well, at all, and will get aggressive if you express a concern. I sought out multiple professional opinions and it was unanimous that the work was poor and overpriced. He dismissed other opinions as "bs." The owners texts, voicemails, and in person interactions are rude, combative, and unnerving. At an in person meeting to discuss my grievances his unprofessionalism reached new heights. Every time I try to describe what happened during this meeting, my review gets hidden, therefore I will not, unfortunately. The owner is unprofessional, rude, and completely unwilling to take responsibility for his work and actions. He continuously deflects and plays every trick under the sun to take advantage of people. There are so many stories out there on social media. Don't just take my word for it. A google search with their name and reviews will bring up other spaces with many stories. I regret hiring this company and spending so much money for work that started breaking immediately. If a project like this is done right, it should last decades, not start crumbling in weeks. If all I got was a retaining wall that is the same as before but covered in slop, stairs that are peeling, cracking, and showing the old surface, and a porch that looks unfinished, what exactly did I pay for? The only thing they deserve money for is bush removal. I have photos from before, the day of the work, every repair attempt, and what it looks like now. The work speaks for itself. If I could post more than one review, I would, because every week there are new visible failures. I regret not standing up for myself before it was too late. I regret ignoring the red flags. Called on a Friday afternoon for a quote, and the work was done by Monday. I have a stone walkway/steps that had mortar falling apart. Tony's crew came out and ground out the old mortar, relayed the broken steps, and fixed up the walkway. They also tuckpointed the brick around the porch. Looks great. Would recommend. read more

The owner, Tony Monaghan, came by my house to look at some exterior work. I was not comfortable with his recommendation of covering decorative wood beamed exterior with stucco. He said he had done it many times, though when asked for a reference of where he has done it, he said "it would be difficult to pull those records". Then he mentioned some other minor tuckpointing issues and when asked if they can be included in bid, he asked if I was of a particular religious denomination. He went on a bit more on this vein which I find unacceptable to repeat. My take is this guy is not the kind of guy anyone should use. read more

Tony responded promptly to our request for an estimate and had us walk around the house with him as he did his evaluation to ensure we understood what he identified as being needed to get the home in good shape. The house needed substantial foundation work as well as quite a bit of tuckpointing, The crew was able to start work the day after we agreed on the project and they were courteous and efficient! When the work was completed, Tony made sure we accompanied him in the post-completion inspection before the crew left. The foundation ended up needing more work than originally identified and they did a good job taking the extra steps to great shape and they left the property clean from their work. If I could give them zero stars, I would. The owner is a salesman and makes you an offer that is truly too good to be true. I wish they would show pictures of what the work looks like literally two weeks after completion. We needed our driveway and back patio finished before putting our house on the market and the work was completed quickly and on the cheap. You get what you pay for. In less than two weeks the milky slop that looked good the day after began to crack and chip. The tuck point work was also sloppy looking. They do fill the gaps, but it looks clumpy and messy. When we called them, they said they would come back out to fix the cracks but it was more milky substance over milky substance. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!!!! read more

Tony and his crew did some tuckpointing on my house and fixed some plaster that was badly damaged due to moisture because previous tuckpointing work about 7 years before was not done correctly (done by someone else). I was very happy with the tuckpointing and the plaster repair. They are fast and thorough and clean up after themselves. I was not present when they were at the house, so I had put my keysafe on the door. It had gotten a bit fiddly about closing, and they apparently forced it closed so I couldn't get it open to get it off the door or get the keys out of it. I informed Tony and he came over late that evening and worked on it until he was able to get it open. He is responsive to concerns, fast (if you contact him for work, you'd better be ready for him to start almost immediately), reasonable on price, and will do a good job. He does not provide written estimates or receipts however and does not take credit cards, which is the only reason I rated this review 4 stars. read more

Water leak from outside into house through window. Owner dismissed my concerns about work day rain and dropped off workers leaving them with no shelter to finish in pouring rain. Did not fix the problem as window still leaked after it rained hard. Owner called next day asking for a 5star review . Irish Construction was highly responsive in getting out to us for an estimate after we saw clear signs that previous work done by Morelli was failing. They had no issues working with either me or my wife depending on our availability, and, as a result, had all the work done within days. And when I say, "all the work," I not only mean that tuckpointing, resealing, and flashing our chimney. They walked the whole house and fixed any and all damaged brick for a set price. And then sealed our driveway same day for a small extra price. Chimney, driveway, brick outer walls all look significantly better! BUYER BEWARE!! I can't express enough that you should not use this company but I want to let customers know my experience and you can decide for yourself. This is actually a repost of my review because of the Yelp Algorithms. This was initially posted on 6/28. I reached out to Irish construction and Tony was out within a couple of hours to do a walk around and provide an estimate which I thought was great. As an fyi, nothing is in writing including a receipt upon completion of the work but that's probably a topic for some local/state/federal agency to look into. I decided to go with Tony because I thought the quote was good, upon initial inspection Irish Construction seemed to have good reviews and he seemed competent. I couldn't be more wrong on all accounts. I hired the company to do some concrete repair around my home and the work was completed on May 15. Unfortunately, I've had nothing but problems with the work since. There was small area of spalling on my front porch, some concrete joints that I wanted filled around my home and other cracks around my home that i wanted patched up. They also repaired some stairs leading to the alley. The work to the front porch immediately cracked and I could see other issues with the work completed. I reached out to Tony on the 5/16 and he responded that he would be in touch to fix. He and his crew showed up on June 1, without so much as a call or text and redid the porch while I was out of town, without consideration that the remainder of the work they completed needed fixing. I followed up with Tony on 6/28 to advise him of the issues with the work and that one of the cracks had actually gotten larger after his crew completed the work. I'm realizing that the company didn't prep the concrete at all to ensure a successful result, they basically just mixed up concrete mix and spread it in the cracks and joints. After some research I'm finding out that's not how its supposed to be done and they are options such as crack sealants that can be used to to match concrete texture and color and provide a more finished look. Tony and his crew showed up today and he attempted to put his crew to work without so much as listening to my issues or what specifically needed to be fixed. I had questions about why the crew didn't prep the cracks and joints and why they didn't use concrete repair and sealant caulk options instead choosing to use concrete mix, which if you don't know is extremely unsightly. Tony tells me that crack sealant, caulk options don't exist for cracks and joints and would leave a stain. If you do some research, this is untrue. I advised Tony that I preferred that he didn't do any work and that I would like some of my money refunded. At this point he became irate, attempted to gaslight me by yelling at me that I was a racist, that I was angry person & discriminating against him b/c he's white (I'm black). He was saying much that I can't even detail it all but let's just say he wouldn't let me get a word in because he was yelling and over talking me. I would like to point out that we're in front of my home, on my extremely quiet, well maintained Tower Grove South street and he's acting erratic. I then asked him to leave because I knew then, Tony had no intention of resolving this amicably. Now if you look at some of the bad reviews its evident that when a customer has a problem with the work that he resorts to insults, yelling, and becoming disagreeable. Take a look, they are there. But what about all the good reviews?!? Well it's no wonder he has a ton of great reviews, he asks customers to submit 4 good reviews for a better deal on the job. However, please look at the bad reviews, and the BBB and then make the choice for yourself. I only hope that I'm able to upload pics and then you make the call but I hope that I can prevent one person from being taken by shoddy work, an unprofessional contractor, and having your hard earned money for all intents and purposes, "stolen". It's unfortunate that I may have to resort to legal action. Update from 7/28/22 Update on my Irish Construction review. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and it seems that Mr. Monaghan has an aversion to the truth. His reply to the BBB is that I yelled racial insults at him and his crew - a total of 3 white men. It's laughable to think that 3 men, let alone 3 white men stood around and allowed one black person to racially assault them. He also characterized me as "enraged, frothing at the mouth and potentially dangerous", I can only assume in an attempt to push the narrative of an "angry black man." This is now his version of the events, which if had actually happened he would have posted in his initial responses on both Yelp and Angi's however he didn't because they aren't true. I am writing this review as objectively as possible to serve as a resource for others. We got burned badly and do not want others to go through the same experience. A few quotes from acquaintances who've also previously used Irish Construction that we connected with after to see if they had a similar experience: "We used them several years ago. I would steer clear. I can't believe they're still in business." "We had a terrible, terrible experience. He pressured us into leaving a review before they were done as part of the 'deal'." In short: -We paid $16,000; the water problem still exists (and is now worse); it has been a year since Irish Construction first came out to work on the job and we kept getting pushed off. Advice: -Get a contract in writing (that you agree with) before the work starts. -Do not pay in full until the work is completed (allow a heavy rain or two, to ensure no water gets in). -Do not write a review until the work is completed. Details of our experience: -We have a cinder block foundation on our 90+ year old house and moisture was getting through and mildewing our interior plaster walls, so we called Irish Construction to come out to provide a bid. -We had also gotten a few other bids (that were provided to us in writing) and then found Irish Construction via a Google search. -Tony came out July 5, 2021 to give us a bid. He asked if I had anyone else come out and give a bid, and I told him yes, that another well known company came out and said they would remove all existing plaster in the basement, tuckpoint the cinder block, and re-plaster. (again, we have a cinder block foundation and moisture had continued making its way through the existing tuckpointing and was deteriorating the existing plaster). -Tony said he would do the job that the other company quoted but would do it for $2k less and pour concrete around the exterior if I committed that day. He said he had a cancellation and could fit us in, so if I did not commit that day the price would go up if he had to come back out. -Because he said he would do everything the other company quoted for $2k less and could start the next day and had great reviews on Google, we moved forward. -We paid $5K the first day he arrived. Then another $5K in the middle of the job the next day. Then another $6K a few days after that job was finished. We paid $16K to have the basement tuckpointed and stop moisture from coming in. -Tony did not tuckpoint anything; only replastered deteriorated spots, painted the basement with Killz, sprayed concrete on the walls of the coal room and put concrete around the exterior of the house. -Water continued coming in the main part of the basement, as well as the coal room. -We were told the job was going to be spotless when they left - it was far from that. We had to clean ~50 foam tile mats - these covered our basement floor and they didn't move them (or ask us to move them), our Bowflex weight set that had sitting water and concrete in it, and several other pieces of exercise equipment. They left everything very messy, despite saying it was going to be "exceptionally clean". -Tony came back out a month later to paint Killz on the walls and fill in several missed spots. -I contacted Tony immediately after (August 25, 2021) because the problem continued, and I had sitting water in my coal room because he covered the French drain and now the water was going directly into the basement (which was not happening before he did the work). The water had previously been directed into the French drain and then into the sump pump, but because they sealed the French drain the water was finding holes and making its way onto our basement floor. -I called and text Tony several times since August to get an update on when he could come back and fix the issues, and I continued to hear excuses: "let's give it some time to settle" (I had sitting water in my basement), "kid coverage", "down in Florida a few weeks", "still down in Florida", "we'll get out there soon", but excuse after excuse and me continually having to follow up, he never came back. -The purpose of having the work done last summer was to make our basement space functional for a kid's playroom, workout gym and storage area. -After following up 12 separate times via text between August 26th (after he came back out and the problem still existed) thru February 17th we decided to no longer postpone our basement projects since it became clear he wasn't going to come back out to finish the job. Additional notes/context: -Tony and his crew talked openly about family and relationship problems, politics, belittling COVID, etc. These weren't conversations I overheard, these were things they tried talking to me about. -I have video recordings from my home security system, phone recordings, and a text thread that can be shared to prove everything above. -Again, I tried taking all emotion out of this review, to provide an objective viewpoint. read more

This is a 3rd party. My grandma had about one square foot of concrete slab in her basement that was broken into large pieces and you could pick up chunks and see dirt. She called irish construction because of our heritage and she said a unpleasant man with. A bad demeanor showed. She showed him the basement floor and he told her it would cost about 700 dollars and left. Multiple people in our family told her to get another quote and Mirelli fixed it on the spot for 30 dollars. Get multiple quotes. If you don't that's your fault if you let a company rip you off like irish wanted to do to my grandma. read more

Tony was initially responsive and offered me a deal to replaster a 4' round ceiling cave in. He and his crew did it the next day. It took several efforts to get it to look decent. After it dried it started cracking and was very rough. Unpaintable. I called several times with little or any response. It took over a month to get them back out here. Two guys finally came to fix it. They just added a skim coat of what looks to be drywall mud. It still is rough and needs to be smoothed out. The 100 year old plaster all around it still looks great. Not Tony's but I'm tired of dealing with them. I'll fix it myself. read more

After having a couple local tuckpointers who either wouldn't even come out and bid my job, or they would only do it in the winter, or they came out and then never contacted me back... I finally ended up with Tony from Irish Construction after seeing fifteen 5 star reviews on Yelp. I asked them to come out and bid the job. Tony came over Thursday night and arrived early. He gave me a bid and even offered to advise me on some of the drainage issues I was having near to the site of my foundation repair (post-repair). He, also, offered to bring the type of gravel I needed to put underneath the rain pipe near to the repair. (I was stumped on how to handle this issue properly and was literally taking shots in the dark, between digging trenches, different types of piping, etc and I really appreciated the advice! Now I know what to do.). He arrived promptly the next morning and in less than four hours the entire job was complete. My basement, interior, wall was a hot mess prior to Tony's crew doing the job... The foundation in our house had shift and virtually dropped several inches post-drought requiring 5 piers... thus, leaving us with some nasty gaps and cracked seams and joints and a busted textured finish on the front of my house. Previous owners just shoved some concrete in the cracks, never repaired the foundation, slapped paint over it... once we repaired the foundation - *all* of those seems crumbled. Tony and crew did a full textured finish on the inside of the basement leaving it bright and clean. Exterior seams were repaired, cracks filled and virtually gone (you can see zero evidence of them being filled) as they were repaired to match the adjacent seams. I am very pleased with their work, and their timeliness. Tony and crew left behind absolutely no mess, cleaned everything thoroughly, including the basement floor. We had an indoor brick room originally painted white brick. We stripped the paint ourselves and then realized we needed help cleaning the stripper off of the brick, tuckpointing the corners of the room, and doing a limestone wash on the cleaned brick. Irish Construction was very quick to respond. The owner came out to take a look at the room the next day, we agreed on a price for the job, and he spoke with my husband about adding on some outdoor brick work as well. All of that was good, he got the job done quickly (same day), and the limestone wash looked great! The next day we noticed the stripper hadn't actually been cleaned off, just covered, and it was seeping through the limestone, which created a greenish goo. The owner responded immediately to my texts/pictures and said he'd come fix it the next day. At the same time, my husband called him, and he had a different experience with the owner over the phone- the owner was angry, he got pretty intense. Still, he agreed he'd come out to fix it. After he came back, I ended up sanding it and then we had someone else come seal the limestone because it was pretty powdery. I didn't ask Irish Construction to help because the owner was a pretty intense guy, just easier to work with a more even-tempered person. Pros- good quality work, fast response Cons- temper, didn't write out a contract ( we didn't ask for that before he started so also our responsibility) which would've prevented the misunderstanding about cleaning the stripper off vs. just covering it up Hopefully this is helpful! read more

I called many places for quotes and to my surprise, Irish said they could come out the next day and do some work. Merelli and Andre tuck pointing said they couldnt even give me a quote for 3 weeks to a month. Irish asked for pictures so I sent some through text. I asked the boss(not sure of his name) if he could come give me a quote, and he said he couldn't as he was busy but could definitely be by the next morning to start work. That was my fault for not getting a quote or anything in writing. The boss guy and 2 workers showed up the next day, as he said they would. I was charged 2700 to skim coat a chimney and add a top to it, fill in 2 holes in my stone basement foundation, and tuck pointed(didn't grind anything just filled in small holes). 50 dollars of materials and 4 hours of labor was 2700. I got the shaft I believe, but maybe I'm wrong and was average price. read more
