I wanted to give an update on my Irish Construction review. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and it seems that Mr. Monaghan has an aversion to the truth. His reply to the BBB is that I yelled racial insults at him and his crew - a total of 3 white men. It's laughable to think that 3 men, let alone 3 white men stood around and allowed one black person to racially assault them. He also characterized me as "enraged, frothing at the mouth and potentially dangerous", I can only assume in an attempt to push the narrative of an "angry black man." This is now his version of the events, which if had actually happened he would have posted in his initial responses on both Yelp and Angi's however he didn't because they aren't true. This was a review about the quality of work but instead of owning up to his mistakes and making things right he has doubled down and resorted to out right lies and defamation of character. He also stated in the reply to the BBB that I was initially happy with the work. This is also not true. I was contacting Mr. Monaghan the very next day to tell him about the problems with the work. It would be in the best interest that potential clients stay far away from this man and Irish Construction. Not only does he not exercise diligence in his craft and have extremely poor workmanship but the fact that he would claim such falsehoods especially during this time in our country's history, speaks to the content of his character and his level of integrity. You shouldn't trust this business to do any reputable work or your most expensive asset. I have attached a screenshot of his response to the BBB for reference. I called many places for quotes and to my surprise, Irish said they could come out the next day and do some work. Merelli and Andre tuck pointing said they couldnt even give me a quote for 3 weeks to a month. Irish asked for pictures so I sent some through text. I asked the boss(not sure of his name) if he could come give me a quote, and he said he couldn't as he was busy but could definitely be by the next morning to start work. That was my fault for not getting a quote or anything in writing. The boss guy and 2 workers showed up the next day, as he said they would. I was charged 2700 to skim coat a chimney and add a top to it, fill in 2 holes in my stone basement foundation, and tuck pointed(didn't grind anything just filled in small holes). 50 dollars of materials and 4 hours of labor was 2700. I got the shaft I believe, but maybe I'm wrong and was average price. read more

Mr. Monaghan and his crew were great. He came out quickly to give me an estimate on a chimney repair, that previous companies had failed to fix. His price was fair and his work was terrific. They cleaned up after the job and gave me some much needed peace of mind that now the issue was finally fixed. I asked for before and after photos which they promptly provided me with. I only wish I would have known to call on them first. I would say don't waste time or money on other companies...just call Irish Construction. They are the pros you need for this kind of job. I have to say how pleasantly surprised I was by Irish Construction. I made a call and Tony was out to give a quote right away. I had called two other companies and didn't even get a call back. Tony had his crew there that afternoon to prep for the work. By the end of the next day...all the work was completed. My neighbor met Tony and they moved there next. We have used Tony several times on numerous big projects. He is very straightforward and tells you what your options are. He has always been far more reasonable than any other quotes we had. His quality of work is outstanding. We have yet to have any issues with our masonry work. We have had him do tuck-pointing on our 100 year old garage, and reinforce our retaining wall in addition to other work. He is very fast and punctual. Tony and his crew were great! They redid some railing and front patio repair. He came out on a Sunday for an estimate and they started the work on a Monday. The estimate was fair. He had incredible attention to detail and ensured his job looked good. When he added some measures to ensure quality he didn't increase his price. The guys worked quickly and they were kind and answered all of our questions. We have a few more projects and will be rehiring this crew. read more

Irish Construction did a great job repairing our stone porch. The tuck pointing work on the deck is excellent and matches the original work. In addition they stabilized and repaired the stone facade. The quote was reasonable and they were out the next day. They did a nice job cleaning up after the work was completed. read more

The primary problem was a leak that is hard to assess as it only occurred during a heavy rain. Hopefully, they fixed the root problem and no more leaks. Opportunities for Improvement: - Payment: Cash only. I prefer to pay with a card even if that means paying a few % extra for CC fees for piece of mind and security. - Urgency: The act now, I can get you in tomorrow, must be available strategy creates unnecessary stress when the repairs are not an emergency. read more

Irish construction came to redo our front steps two years ago and this is what the steps have looked like since two WEEKS after they were done. Nothing held up. Not to mention they accidentally did our neighbors stairs first and then told them they had to pay them for the work they never even asked for. They screened my calls and came back to "fix" their work and covered our plants in concrete and made everything look ten times worse. Completely unprofessional and rude. Several choice words said on their part so be weary if you have young children. Use absolutely anyone but them. read more

Tony and his crew were a blessing. I have an 80 year old south county home with unsafe crumbling steps and stone porch. I had several bids that were frankly depressing, with one telling me it would have to be completely torn up and redone for well over 10,000 dollars. Tony came out to give me a bid at 10am and offered me a great deal for work done the same day because he had someone cancel and his crew was ready to work. They were done by 4pm that same day. We had Irish construction coming to do some mud jacking on our side walk on the side of our house and the sidewalk in front of our house and my porch. They did a horrible job. The concrete is now cracking and they put some type of sealant that I was not told about on the concrete which is awful. Now because of what they've done I have to call another concrete company to come and remove and put In new concrete. I would not recommend this company to anyone. read more

Irish Construction did solid work, but they had to reschedule several times and we ended up having different understandings of the work to be done. I give them 4.5 stars for their work and 2 stars for the experience due to miscommunication and their unexpected rescheduling. Bottom line: I'd recommend their work, but I'd make sure to get a detailed written proposal ahead of time to make sure that everyone's on the same page regarding the work to be done. The Good: Tony and his crew of two arrived on time and did a great job patching up some holes and spot tuckpointing the back and side of our 100+ year old South St. Louis City house. They had simple, creative solutions to patch some holes that other contractors suggested intensive, expensive work to repair - I really appreciated that. Could Have Been Better: -Lack of Detail in Estimate. After working with Irish Construction's office staff to clarify in writing what was included in the estimate, the crew had a different understanding and did less work than expected. I was surprised, since the office staff confirmed my understanding of the work to be done. I was disappointed that (1) they actually meant less work than the office staff confirmed in writing, and (2) the Irish Construction team wasn't on the same page internally, leading to confusion. I likely would have gone with another quote had I known they would do less work than I expected. Full disclosure: one of my family members worked with Tony to put together the estimate, which likely contributed to the miscommunication. -Needed to Monitor Side Tuckpointing. After the crew informed me they were finished, I inspected the side of the house, where Tony had identified some additional tuckpointing needs, which I accepted for a few hundred dollars. I was surprised to find a lot of remaining gaps in the tuckpointing. They made sure to address them after I pointed them out, but I was disappointed that they didn't catch them themselves, especially after identifying the need just 2 hours earlier. -Unexpected Rescheduling. Due to some rescheduling and middlemen on both sides, some details were apparently lost in translation. They were able to come out for an estimate earlier than originally projected, but they ended up pushing it back more than 3 hours. After we scheduled the work, I found out 3 hours after their projected arrival time that they wouldn't be able to come that day after all. They were able to come out the next day. read more

The cement stairs from an alley side carport that led up to my lawn were crumbled away and uneven. Mr. Monaghan gave me a quote and after agreeing on a price was able to get me into his schedule quickly. Pictures say it all. Paid 1600 for this. Took them all of two hours to do a lot of plaster work and it shows. Then when I called to say job is not done well and needs to be fixed, guy wants to argue with me about what a good job it was and hung up on me saying I'll get to it when I can. We had Irish Construction refinish our front porch in May. We contacted him a couple of weeks later (after returning from a trip) and wanted him to come by to address several workmanship concerns. We forwarded pictures. He said he would be by, but never did. The last time he promised to come by was August 1st after we complained to BBB and Angie's List. It's now 6 weeks later, and still no Anthony. We now have a crack beginning in the exact same location, which makes us wonder if he really did what he said he would do. In investigating, I have heard from other people in our community that had similar experiences with him. If he would just do what he said it would do, and come address our concerns, this review would not be so harsh. I'll be sure to check additional sources and casenet before hiring another contractor. read more

Definitely do not use this company. They are NOT professional. They will not complete your job like they promise, they will make a total mess of your home or property, and they will charge you more than other companies to do it. Here is my experience in a nutshell if you want details: They were available in 1 week which is what made me select them even though they charged 50% more than my other bids. I thought I would use that week to look for reviews but I got distracted and never checked on them. My biggest mistake ever! After the fact, I found multiple reviews online that showed that I was not the only customer they had treated this way. It seems like it is their normal mode of operation. Make a mess and never fix their mistakes. I hired them to do an interior plastering job. They billed themselves as plastering experts with 20 years experience. Long story short, I was left with such a mess that I can't even find a REAL plasterer that will touch the job for less then 3 times my original bid. And that is just for fixing the walls. I have already spent many, many hours sanding down my woodwork where they slopped plaster all over. Plaster is on my carpets, baseboards, crown molding, banister, & mantle. And the walls that they were supposed to plaster are a disaster! The walls were left with holes, cracks, gouges, plaster falling off the walls, and in 2 places they even left pieces of grass sticking out of the plaster! A child with a bucket of plaster could have done a better job. To make things worse they would not even return the money I had given them. Thieves! read more

They made an absolute mess of my patio when doing crack repairs and resurfacing.......charged me $1700 and it looks worse than before. They did come back a couple of times to "make it right" but to no avail.....and would not refund any of my money. I was amazed by the owner of Irish Construction Tony called for the job was done and requested the rest of payment. I did not think he even spent 2 hours for re-surfaceing my driveway. He poured some cement like material over the partial driveway which I told him 2 minor cracks and some area with exposure rock and sand which was done incorrectly 3 years ago. It's unbelievable thin the way Tony did and the problem was still not solved. The surface on the driveway still rough and majority not smooth. But that was the purpose I spent the money to get the driveway surface smooth. He said he was able to make the driveway smooth and nicer. I met Tony after he called the job done. I told him I disliked the work he did. I definitely would pay him in full if he can do better job. Tell you what? He had never given me a chance to say it. He started to curse me, curse, and curse.... and called my name. He threaten that he would put a lien on my property, and come back sometimes to pour the paints all over my driveway. About a minute later, he jump in the truck and drove over the still wet driveway to ruin even more. I was shocked when I saw the scene. Then I called police. A cop came and Tony already left. I told the cop about the situation. At least the police was my witness if I see my driveway is going to have paints all over. This man is very mean. He will never give you a chance to be opinionated on the job he did. He quoted re-surfacing on partial driveway for $1,400 and demanded $700 before he even started. I went for it because I did not have an idea the price. But I thought he makes good money for this less than 2 hours work. (faster than hitting the jackpot). It's certainly scary to see all the good reviews from his website. I'm starting to wonder that whether it's true or he made up himself. read more
