The other being overly sturdy for safety, and I got that too. While expensive up front, the benefits far outweigh recurring maintenance cost and personal effort. Pat and Top Deck would be my first call -likely my only call- if I needed a deck or patio space built in the future. With a product and system that lasts forever, I'd have to create a problem myself, though. Pat himself is relaxed and relatable, about 40 years experience, and we discussed options and adjustments while factoring the quote. The crew members are all friendly and good craftsmen. Top Deck builds a lot of deck spaces, one job at a time, so you get the care, not the rush. My deck took a week during November '23. The three crew members: Matt, Andy, and Benito, kept hours about 8:30-4:30/5. Said hello, kept me updated, and generally, just got to it. They set aside for me, the pieces from the removal I wanted to keep for a project. All the measurements for lining up boards was done precisely. Their clean-up included a magnet sweep, which I appreciated, and they moved everything back to where I keep it. If there was one thing to pass along, request they tarp some areas before cutting and drilling(anything that creates shavings.). Builder crews don't really sweep up, I get it, but working with the composite, the shavings are all plastic, not wood! A tarp over some areas as prep could have caught most of the plastic if not running a collection system during the build or a shop vac after. Get your other bids, then go with Top Deck.

He was very determined to have everything look great and work right. A couple of times he noticed things he was unhappy with and fixed them even though we were ok with it. Pat also stands behind his work. After a rainfall there was a small trickle running down the side of the house that got to the space below we are now using as an outdoor living area. He came out, inspected it and had one of his guys fix it right away. It's now rain tight and dry as a bone underneath even in big rainstorms. Would highly recommend Pat and his team.

He came over, showed us their credentials and listened to our questions and concerns. We weren't in any hurry and knew it would be awhile which was fine. The day finally arrived. They put our roof on and it looked great. Someone did have to go back up and secure a few shingles, but no big deal. Then the siding guys came. They did a great job and even trimmed our bushes so they could get to the house okay. We have two dogs and they were very careful to keep the gate closed which we appreciated. Then the gutter guys came and finished up the house. Everything looks great and they cleaned up the yard. We are very pleased with everything. I got Scott's information from a neighbor because I was new to the neighborhood…read more First day on the job, he put up one side of the railing crooked and left for the day. I was scratching my head when I saw that, as in, how did that ever happened? Didn't he have the basic tool, like a level? His partner even said he had told him it was not straight. The next day he came back to fix it, but I already had a bad feeling about that. Long story short, a couple of months later, one of the balusters fell off to the ground. It was then that I realized he was using screws to tighten ONLY 1/3 of the balusters, he was using skinny nails for the rest. The balusters warped and moved because of exposure to the outdoor elements and popped out. We had to get replacements to fix the issue. I got 10 and I used them all, because more of them fell off or became warped. Then yesterday afternoon, I was just slightly leaning on one side of the railing and it shifted under my 125 lbs weight. I immediately contacted Scott. He read the message for sure, but he hasn't replied. My recommendation: do not use SJS handyman at all cost. It took him and his partner "5 days" to finished the job, because for a couple of days he would leave for late lunches and didn't come back. He even walked off middle of the job one day because of a heated argument with his partner. He's very unprofessional and without my knowledge, used some of the 20 year old existing wood added to the new deck.
