I must say..... I am very glad that the Central Valley has now acquired MOCHI DONUTS!!!! If that doesn't get one hyped then you are definitely missing out on a hot food item. Mochi donuts are not your typical donuts. They're these ring-shaped donuts made with rice or tapioca flour creating a bouncy, chewy texture topped with a nice sugar glaze in a variety of flavors. In addition, the shape makes it easy to pull apart and consume just like your normal donut hole! Salida Donuts have been advertising off their new item since mid-November and I was lucky enough to try it during their soft opening. I came in and was immediately greeted by I assume the owner? A young woman who was very nice and allowed me to try a full sample of their donut! I totally forgot the name but it was already delicious with a great texture that reminded me of the mochi donuts you can grab in the Bay Area. Unfortunately, during the time I came there were not much flavors left and therefore, the owner told me it was best to order off of their website to reserve. Utilizing their website was a breeze and super simple. I ordered two dozen mochi donuts and tried basically every flavor they had at the time of their disposal. Note that these donuts are not cheap. One dozen costs you $25, but to be honest that's pretty standard pricing for these and well worth it. In total I only waited about 30 minutes for a fresh batch to come out. I came back into the store and she already knew my name (from ordering online) and brought out my order immediately. Drove back home to try and each flavor was honestly very delicious! Super bouncy, glutinous, great flavors from each of the donuts. My personal favorite was the lychee, which reminded me of those "Asian jelly" in those animal containers. We've been coming to this donut shop for several years. The owner makes the donuts fresh each day! The donuts are always so delicious! She takes cash or credit- extra $0.50 if you use card. The parking lot can get busy & you can always find parking if you go down the street a bit more. She sells what she makes for the day and doesn't make extras. So get there early if you want certain kinds of donuts because she sells out quick on the weekend. As someone who drives all the way to Sacramento to get mochi donuts it's nice to have one more close to home. Every single flavor from strawberry to Ube to birthday cake, we're all DELICIOUS. Very new to the area and drove past one day when I was taking my kids to school. It's tucked away in a small little center in the downtown area. Very cute, first time going there and they have the normal donuts which is nice and the lady who assisted was very sweet. With the prices of stuff the donuts for a dozen regular donuts and a dozen donut holes were reasonably priced. She even threw in an extra donut which made me like the place even more.
