It's not easy…read moreto find authentic Malaysian flavors, and this meal definitely left us wanting to come back and explore more of the menu. The Roti Canai was flaky, flavorful, and paired perfectly with the curry dipping sauce. The Red Curry Chicken was rich, aromatic, and absolutely delicious. We also enjoyed the Tofu Satay, which had great flavor, and the Pineapple Fried Rice with tofu was a standout--fresh, satisfying, and really tasty. The portions were generous. The only dish that didn't quite hit the mark was the Mama Chicken. It was a bit more heavily breaded than we expected and a little chewy, though we think that's probably because it's likely much better when served fresh in the restaurant. Overall, we had a good experience and are looking forward to dining in next time so we can try more of their specialty Malaysian dishes. Based on this meal, Banana Leaf has definitely earned a return visit.

The dining room is spacious, with +20 tables, and an open kitchen so you can watch the staff at work. Usually I call in takeout orders for pickup, but I have stayed for a meal (usually with friends). Friendly service. My favorites: - Roti Canai - this flaky appetizer is a crowd pleaser. And that savory curry sauce! - Kangkung Belacan - stir-fried greens with chili paste. I'm obsessed with them. They're seasonal, so you might not always be able to order them. - Taiwanese Chicken - tasty, with the right amount of soy sauce. - Thai Basil Noodles - drunken noodles! Perfect when I want starch in my life. They take credit cards now (including paying with a smartphone). But pay cash and your bill will be slightly less.

When searching for the best ramen in Philadelphia, not only did the reviews lead us here, but the…read moresuggestions from the locals did as well. We started off with a few appetizers. The edamame was standard, and the takoyaki and pan-fried dumplings didn't taste homemade. Rather they both reminded me of what you would pick up at the frozen section at the food market. Nevertheless, they were passable. After all, we were here for the ramen. I opted in for their Terakawa special. The broth was flavourful, and the chashu was the most tender and juicy chashu I've ever had. As for the girlfriend, she opted in for their spicy ramen which was also spectacular. I absolutely loved her wavy noodles. I would have loved to have swapped out my straight noodles for her wavy noodles. They have a nice bounce and slightly chewy texture. Their marinated eggs were to die for. We put in a few extra orders for these. Overall, a great experience. The staff seemed to be right on the ball, and this small and cozy restaurant definitely makes you feel transported to Japan.

When I arrived, the restaurant was very busy, and the space itself was pretty small. Thankfully, they have a self-service kiosk to join the dine-in waitlist and another kiosk specifically for takeout orders. The ordering process was simple and straightforward, but unfortunately, the wait was quite long. Despite ordering relatively simple dishes, my food took about 30 minutes to prepare. There also wasn't anywhere to sit or wait inside, so I ended up standing outside for the entire 30 minutes. For my appetizer, I ordered the mini chicken curry, which was pretty good! The curry had that classic Japanese curry flavor I was looking for, and I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of chicken included, especially for an appetizer-sized portion. For my entree, I went with the gyudon, which was also pretty solid. The beef was a little fattier than I expected, and I felt that the rice-to-meat ratio was slightly off, with significantly more rice than beef. However, the overall flavor was good, and it definitely satisfied my craving for a Japanese rice bowl. Overall, I enjoyed the food and would definitely consider coming back to try their ramen, especially since that's what they're known for. My biggest complaint was the takeout experience. Hopefully, they can improve their efficiency with takeout orders or find a way to better accommodate customers waiting for their food. The food itself was satisfying, but a 30-minute wait for a couple of simple dishes felt a bit excessive.

They were helpful with recommendations when we were ordering, but they didn't really refill our water or check in on us. 6/10 The Roti Canai was warm, flaky, crispy, and chewy. 7/10. My only issue was the dipping sauce. I expected something thicker, but it was more soupy and also tasted pretty bland. The Hainanese Chicken was soft with a savory sauce. It was my first time trying it, and it was good for what it was, but nothing particularly special to me. 6/10. The Nasi Lemak was easily my favorite. 8.5/10. So comforting! The chicken had a nice savory curry flavor, and the sweet lemongrass veggies combined with the anchovies created such an explosion of flavors. I would definitely get this again. Overall, the price is so good for the amount and variety of food you get!

If you need some recommendations: - Mee Siam is one of the best eats in Chinatown - Beef rendang - Roti - Green curry casserole - Satay combo - Coconut rice (surprisingly good) The upside is that the food is great and the prices are pretty reasonable. The downside is that the service can be so-so (as is the case with a lot of spots in Chinatown), and the QR menu simply needs to disappear forever. It's kinda wild that they have no pictures on a menu for a cuisine that is not super well-known in the US. On the whole tho, I'd pretty much eat there anytime.

(Note: if you only want smaller serving of their great, thick noodles, order $4 add-on as a side in place of rice with regular dish.) I always have leftovers to enjoy at home. Dumpling orders are large and shareable. (Always 6 or 8 pieces.) My fave when dining in is amazingly delicious and huge Fish Fillet in Hot and Sour Cabbage Broth. (That's best with rice side to help absorb broth.) So good and healthful to balance the dough density of whatever dumplings you might also order -- they're all great. When getting order to go (or delivered) I like Kung Pao Chicken; it travels well. Order added green veggie dish for sharing -- I lean toward Chinese Broccoli; you'll really want the balance with the delicious dumpling and noodle dishes. Large cocktail menu -- Lychee Martini is so refreshing. Important: cash only for dining in. There's an ATM by their front door. Takeout and delivery accepts credit cards. Most reasonably priced parking nearby (if you don't score a limited street spot) is ParkAmerica at 1040 Race St a few doors down. In fact, it was one of the valet guys in that garage who recommended Dim Sum Garden when I was seeking great Chinese option. (Thank you, Ceasar!)

I just get a feeling that the focus is on pushing alcoholic drinks rather than on the food. The pork buns felt like they were previously frozen and were very sweet. Shrimp dumplings tasted off. Service was never the star but it wasn't so dismissive either. Just a very bad experience and while I won't go back, I also don't want to rate them 1 star as that would be unfair. Their food now is no better than the next guy and that's disappointing. Cash only btw. I write this because they do not post signs and a couple tables had to go grab cash from their ATM machine.

Takes reservations
All you can eat

Pretty simple, there are different tiers and each tier offers something different. Of course, we went for the top diamond tier which includes all-you-can-eat Japanese and Australian wagyu, unlimited appetizers and pretty much everything on the menu was unlimited at that tier. Starting off with all 4 of the appetizers offered, the bone marrow was quite amazing. Rich, buttery and tasted great, fresh off the grill. The wagyu nigiri was a favourite of ours. The rice was nicely seasoned and we couldn't get enough. The wagyu tartare was nice, and we wished we were served the toasted bread from the bone marrow rather than the chips. Unfortunately, the sweet shrimp wasn't too fresh. The heads showed signs of blackening, and it tasted close to the end of its shelf life. The thinly sliced wagyu was exquisite. We tried not only the Japanese wagyu, but the Australian wagyu as well, and we kept ordering tray after tray of it. The seafood bowl that came with our tier was a nice touch. I can't say I was a huge fan of the king crab that was offered. These were the end and knuckle pieces that didn't have much meat in them. These could have been skipped as amazing as king crab sounds. As for the vegetables and sides, they were fresh and really added to our hot pot experience. Overall, coming in at $90/per person, I feel this is a steal. An amazing price point to eat unlimited rich, buttery, marbled beef. We also found our server to be very attentive which was greatly appreciated. We did not wait long in between ordering more items and when they arrived which is a huge plus.

Be sure to book reservations as spots fill out quick! Got the gold tier for the whole family and the A5 meat was soooo tender and soft. The broth and side sauces could've had more variation as I felt like it could've used more flavor. Not sure if that was a tactic on their part to have guests taste the authentic wagyu quality more but definitely would've appreciated more dipping flavors. The seafood platter was amazing!! Bummer it was only one tray. Also the limited 1 piece per guest - wagyu nigiri - was chefs kiss! Bone marrow was yummy but you'd have to love the fatty taste to be okay with it. Great ice cream selection and drinks (milk tea + coconut milk were the favs). The best part is since I was part of the chubby club, my membership discounted pricing ~$13 per person applied, plus got extra points for more rewards which was amazing.
