Take-out for dinner tonight. The salad was fresh. The steak was tender and deliciously seared. The veggies we're mushy and heavy on mushrooms. Yum yum sauce was good. However... the chicken was awful. It was like eating mildly seasoned leather. The shrimp wasn't deveined and was a little tough but nicely seasoned. All together the meal was average but I wouldn't try it again. Fixing that chicken alone would make a world of a difference. read more

I wish they would answer the phone. I have been trying to reach them to arrange a small dinner party, line either busy or no one answers, attempted tafternoon, morning even evenings! However, I will say Very good!! Not a huge fan of these style restaurants unless t service is top notch, if not it can be a long hectic dining experience. Mom, hubby, I dined Sat @6:00 weekend after Christmas. Fairly crowded no wait, joined 3 other families we did not know, it was great. Staff organized, pleasant the night we were there, drinks, appetizers came quickly. Really loved chef! Very entertaining, friendly. Never waited long for your servings of meat, and seafood. Filet Mignon phenomenal! Tender, flavorful, large portions. Mignon worth the higher price. read more

CHOPSTICKS & KNIVES......... umm we've usually go to this place twice a year. Why so infrequent? It's the same show, food and dingy-monsters house. Seating is packaged for delivery style (tight). I figured if the cook my food in front of me at least I can see it for food safety purposes read more

Came by to give my picky 19 year old nephew a new experience. He wouldn't try any other Asian cuisine that I brought up but he agreed to come here. We ordered some sushi, he had the chicken teriyaki and I had the filet mignon and shrimp. The sushi was okay. He at least tried the eel (after I told him it was chicken). Ok, so our tepenyaki chef comes out and he's (surprisingly not Japanese) and wearing an stars and stripes chef hat. I thought he was Filipino at first but the accent was a little off. Turns out he's from Malaysia. I don't know if he brought some Malaysian hash and smoked it before coming to our table, but he was a little weird. He asked me if I was Pakistani and that maybe I was with Abu Sayaff and then went to joke with the rest of our table mates. I think it's safe to say that he freaked everybody out with his off-sense of humor. I mean, normally you get the guy that drops his pepper shaker and says "ohh, too much saki!". I wanted this guy to just shut the hell up and make the food. So anyway, when it came to making the food. He made the pretty onion volcano and almost burned my eyebrows off. Then he put what looked like a pound of butter on the flied lice. My filet was cooked medium, how I like it, but everything was just okay. The restaurant itself was sticky from over cleaning with a lot of chemicals. It kinda felt like a bad dream. I'm glad I woke up. read more

The food was about what I've seen at almost every other Japanese steakhouse. Good, but not spectacular. The chef had a hard time keeping our orders straight. Sushi pieces were good, but small, and the waiter didn't provide soy sauce with it. The staff is friendly. read more

My family and I had been coming here maybe once a year and it was never anything really fancy. However today we came for my sister's birthday celebration and were in total disarray. For starters, my mother, sister, and I were told the 3 of us couldn't be seated because there needed to be 9 of us for a table. We were about to go somewhere else (which we shouldve) until 6 more people walked up: perfect right.? As we sit and socialize, we notice 3 (white) people be seated at another table. My family is african american. You do the math. Those people were served food (not a show but just food prepped from the back). If sitting without a show was an option, why was my family not informed and were instead told we couldn't sit.? If that wasn't enough, as the food is being cooked in front of us, a roach...yes a roach, landed on my sister (aka the birthday girl's) lap. No matter the size a bug is a bug and it was on her lap. We try to finish eating and couldn't wait to go home. A meal at the least could've been free but it wasn't. Besides all of that, the place is old, dated, cracking, and very nonchalant with how they treat customers. This is our last day here.! read more

We ordered sushi, which was pretty good! Could have been rolled a little better. Then I ordered the filet and shrimp, it was good until I found a hair in it :( YUCK! read more

So... way back when I wrote this post Sakura was great... The sushi was wonderful... Sakura is sadly now a just a memory... The last two times I went there the sushi was terrible... and the waiter was a d!ck... The fried rice is about the only thing that is still good there... if you feel like having a frustrated night waiting for ur food, and ur waiter telling you how good his service usually is because he brought you out ur drinks and salad out 30 minutes late... this is the place to be! read more

Its okay if you want the experience Its okay if you have never been to a Japanese Steakhouse. I have been to others, however, and I am not that impressed really. In addition, please do know that this is food that is heavy in oil as well - not the best choice for people trying to eat healthy or on a diet. But that's a personal choice. For me personally it always takes a long time to get served really and the service is somewhat under par even from the chefs. Secondly, I always wonder about cross contamination. I always see the chefs do things I would not accept with raw eggs. In addition, if you are not fond of certain food please remember all of the food is cooked together and with the same spatula. So if you are allergic to shellfish or dont like beef...remember they cook all of the food in front of you on the same stovetop, with the same spatula, and together. The food is very greasy and I cant really enjoy it because it's too greasy for me. Its hard to enjoy the taste of the rice, vegetable and meat because of the overpowering sauces/oils. It is also best to dine here with a coupon as well because this is not the cheapest place either, especially for the sub-par food you get. I would not frequent this place is all I say, I would simply go here to experience it is all.....and there are better places ot go for the experience. read more

The worst hibachi I've had in years. Yum yum sauce was bland. I was very disappointed. Then 4.00 for extra mushrooms? Y'all don't even have carrots. Then y'all don't carry any noodles!! That was my last visit read more

I have never had a bad experience here.. We come here for almost every birthday and every Mother's Day... It's just always fun and a way for our whole family to bond... Yesterday, the entire restaurant was having a bad night, I know I'm not the only person who asked for the manager. I got a sour taste, the moment we walked in the door.. I guess another customer was complaining about how they had been seated for 20 min and another table had their drink order taken before them.. It seemed like a meeting because not one of them payed any attention to us.. Finally the young host turned around and just said "is your party all here" with a major attitude from the "meeting" going on behind him. We had the same problem, another table's drink orders were taken before ours and we had a full table.... They didn't. They have had some amazing chefs there over there years... But yesterday, I feel like I chef was pulled off the street and forced to make our food... He was ALL OVER THE PLACE, it's like he was nervous or something. He was talking more to the other group of people and not really paying attention to what he was doing with the food... The rice was undercooked, it was so crunchy. He forgot my shrimp appetizer so he got more and they literally laid on the grill for less then 3 min before he put them on my plate... I just know they weren't cooked. So I didn't eat them. I asked for well done steak because I was sharing my food with my 21 month old and it was far from well done... Like I said he wasn't paying attention and was in such a rush to get everything done. Now to the bill... I saw a sign that said "18% will be added to checks for party's of 5 or more" I PURPOSELY didn't order my daughter anything because I knew they would count her as a 5th person if I did. So we get the bill, OF COURSE when they ran our card they kept the original receipt we asked for it back and we saw the 18% had been added on. We asked our waiter why he added the 18% for a child who isn't even 2 yet and he said "she took up a spot at the table" I immediately went to ask for the manager and asked why my not even 2 year old was added in as a service charge when she didn't even order anything... She said "we must do it to ensure the waiter is tipped properly according to the amount of people he's waiting on" I said "he didn't wait on my daughter, I did. She didn't order anything she ate from my plate there is no reason why she should of been added on as a service charge" and she pretty much told me "tough luck" Point being, we were going to tip at least 20%, so it was really his loss. I realize restaurants have and bad days, but they all were very careless and not in the mood to make customers happy yesterday. Well done Sakura of Waldorf read more

This has been one of my favorite restaurants for years. I don't understand the negative reviews on this place. It isn't a 5 star restaurant, doesn't claim to be. Just good food with a little fun. I agree that it can be a little pricey but I only come here maybe 2 or 3 times a year so it isn't bad for me. The owner is always friendly to my mom and I. Occasionally will get an extra salad tossed into our bag when we order carryout. My standard order- Shrimp and chicken with double rice, mushroom appetizer. It has never been anything less than delicious. I mix the yellow and brown sauce together, pour it all over my food, OH YEAHHHHHH! I hate when they throw the shrimp or chicken into your mouth only because I never catch it lol. Great spot! read more

Got there as the doors opened. The waitress was very unpleasant. Placed a sushi order along with 2 cooked orders of filet mignon, shrimp & fried rice. The sushi was out within 5 minutes. We watched as the 1 person in the party ate his sushi, 15 minutes later he had to leave to get back to work and we still had not received our 2 cooked orders. When it finally came the fried rice was cold, the steak burnt and the shrimp over cooked. Ate about a 1/4 of it and ended up paying and leaving. Within 30 minutes of leaving both of us that ate the steak & shrimp were vomiting. I highly recommend you eat somewhere else. read more

It's not often I I am surprised last week I left a bad review for this restaurant and I also sent them an email, the following day I received a email back from the restaurant stating how sorry they were for the mess up on my order and please give them another chance they asked if it be all right if they made my order over again any day that I wanted of course I said sure. I picked up my order today and my order was a fantastic sushi was just outstanding the way I know it always has been they went above and beyond to make a customer satisfied . In closing I just wanted to say that I'll be going Back for the next 20 years read more

I've been coming here for basically forever... always pretty much order filet and shrimp w double rice. Yes it's expensive yes it's worth it. They had coupons for the longest online. But if you go before 2 on a Week day the lunch prices are cheaper. the sex on a beach sushi rolls are bomb! ... usually empty for lunch time. Experience is dependent on the chef and server you have. you can tell a vet from a rookie here. If you get a good chef your food will be bomb I'd say 3/4 it's bomb 1/4 it's just ok. read more

If i could give no stars I would. Cross contamination at its finest. I witness the chef cut up raw chicken with a knife. Stir it with a spatula. Then immediately serve me shrimp with the very same spatula. Gag me. Been eating here forever and always they are very careful. This type of thing went on thru entire meal. This all due to poor planning by chef. I am sick to my stomach just watching the chefs disregard for common kitchen safety practices. read more

Food was great, but the service was lackluster. I arrived at 4:30 and when they was barely anyone there since it just opened. I had to flag down my waiter for refills and to order my entree. The waiter answered my request and walked away before she asked the other guests if they needed anything. They indeed wanted to order more food, but with the poor service they changed their minds. My entree came rather quickly and might I add very fresh and tasty. However, the waiter did not remove the plates from the appetizers or check if we needed anything. So the plates kept piling on and on as she never returned to the table. I had to call another waiter to help me for the rest of my dinner. Sorry but I will no longer order food from this establishment. read more

A coworker and I went here for lunch. We were promptly taken care of and received our drinks and salad. I'm not fond of either of their salad dressing options, but that's not something I fault them for. The chef wasn't particularly exciting, but the food was good. The issue is that this place has become extremely over-priced, even for lunch. Finally, they have also added a mandatory "service fee" that supposedly is a tip split between the wait staff and chef for even individuals. Mandatory fees limit the ability to tip good staff, and punish those who are not. Fortunately our servers and chef were good, however the tip requested ON TOP of the fee certainly suffered. Just how many times are they going to hit us up for more money? It will be a long time before I return, simply because of how pricy they have become for lunchtime. read more

Only giving a three because of one waiter's service. We were enjoying the meal, but the waiter disappeared and I wanted a refill. Most of the time we had to be served by the waitresses willing to look around and help. When we did see him to get his attention...he was sitting playing on his phone. Don't know his name and didn't care. Will only come back if he is not our waiter again. read more

I was surprised at the quality of sushi for a Japanese restaurant in Waldorf. Never tried their hibachi because I don't like sweating next to a hot grill. I don't think they would be appreciated in this location though. The demographic of the area are buffet all you can eat consumers with small budgets and a lot of kids. They should consider re-locating because they are also hard to find. read more

Went for a lunch date on a Friday. Clean and good atmosphere. Food was good and so was the service.

Food was freaking awesome here. I got the shrimp and steak with fried rice and tore it up. Mmm that seafood sauce really tasted good with the whole platter setup. It took a pinc too long for the food but that's not a deal breaker. I will surely revisit again......soon read more

Having ate here multiple times before, I can summarize Sakura by saying it's expensive, you receive a humongous portion, the place does not feel clean but the food is good and on occasion you get a chef who enjoys entertaining. My kids love going here for the entertainment value of watching their food prepared in front of them. We walk away with plenty of leftovers for the next several days. The staff is friendly but always seems tired or disinterested. I have not tried the sushi yet as I go to another place in town. All in all, Sakura is decent if you go with a large group and expensive. read more

Way too expensive, not very good service, the salad tasted horrible (which sucks because I love ginger dressing), and the portions where half the size of the place in Forrestville. I love Japanese food, BUT... Sakura does not meet the criteria for a nice dining experience. I was disappointed and felt cheated after paying $67 (including the tip) for soup, salad and an entree for two people. Neither of us ate our salad or soup because it didn't taste good. The ginger salad dressing was extra thick and bitter and to be frank, I've had better dressing from the supermarket. The entrees were simply okay. The teriyaki sauce on my salmon wasn't tasty at all. I just made the best of it. On top of that, my steamed rice was hard on the surface and felt like it had been sitting for a while, before it was served to me. I will never go to Sakura again nor can I recommend it. read more

I attended Sakura for the first time on January 7th. After eating there and only there around 12am I started to feel very sick. I began to throw up vigorously. I spoke to Jaime the manager on January 8th about my dissatisfaction and told her that I had come down with the stomach flu (I attended urgent care). Her immediate response was well how do you know you got it from here, and to ger knowledge you cannot get the stomach flu from food. I went on to tell her it can come from contaminated food or maybe one of her workers had the stomach flu prior to prepping the chicken and shrimp that I ate. She did not offer me any resolution, but instead suggested I get a doctors note and bring it in proving I can get the stomach flu from food. Mind you I live no where in the area. I am so disappointed in the establishment as well as the manager that I spoke with. read more

Came to enjoy a hiboji experience...like others I've gone to. They sit my wife and I at an empty station...great...can get good viewing seats.....wrong!!! They try to seat us at the end where the view is limited. Then tell us a group is coming....must be a huge group...there was still over 10 seats left. We go to sit a normal table.
