Sakura is one of the best hibachi's in the DMV. The food is always so good and so are the portions, but on my last visit the steak was very skimpy and had too much fat. I noticed the cook was trying to work with what he had, however my cubes of steak were the smallest ever. It seemed like they tried to make two pieces out of one steak. I ordered extra egg in my hibachi but I don't like that they charged me $3/4 for one extra egg. Highway robbery...... I also really hate how they stick so many people at one table. You end up bumping elbows with your neighbor. The chef did a very good job cooking and entertaining. The ambiance was just like all the rest of the Sakura's. read more

I will say that the environment was nice on a Saturday night. It wasn't super crowded which was wonderful. We were the second people to our table. We had the Hibachi service and the food. First of all was amazing. I got the shrimp, chicken and scallops with a shrimp appetizer in the soup. Our chef was awesome with the table. We said it was very friendly and everyone, even though we were strangers by the end of the night, we felt like family. We had a great entertainment by the chef. I really enjoyed the female woman. She really did an amazing job cooking food. We had so much food. Everyone had large portions and the leftovers lasted a day and a half. Everyone at our table that did the catching the food in their mouth. Everyone caught something I didn't participate, but it was wonderful and the service was amazing. The ambience was good because it wasn't so crowded. It felt like an intimate setting even though the restaurant probably is always packed during holidays, birthdays and prom season we went at a great time. Thank you for an amazing time and amazing perfectly seasoned food. read more

Rena the Manager is perfect! My better half and I were deciding where we would stop for dinner on a Monday evening and decided to try Sakura. We sat at the bar because we weren't that hungry to eat at a table. It's Hibachi and that's a fave of mine. We took our foodie talents to the bar. Rena helped us. She took pride in her work that I thought she was the owner, nope she confirmed shes just a manager. A good one might I add. Ambiance is causal no need to dress up. Let's Get Into it! Sushi - Delicious and met expectations. Fried Rice - Exceeded expectations! Loved it! They have YUM YUM sauce, if you don't know what it is, the name is telling! Yum. Drinks - Rena can make a drink! Working Dual hats! Definitely returning, might have to be a place we come to often! Highly recommend! read more

Went at lunch time specifically for 2 types of sushi rolls - shrimp tempura roll & a sex on the beach roll...was informed that both are now 'premade'. And the tempura appetizer is now an inconvenience to them because they have to 'make the batter, prep the shrimp etc'. They also have now ramped up on the already excessive amount of bean sprouts. read more

Please do not order take out here...you will not get your money's worth‼ they didn't include my appetizer (2 shrimp), they didn't give me the extra zucchini that I paid for, you can't get the soup that's included unless you bring your own container...my rice was mushy, the shrimp and chicken was not even a full serving- To make matters worse I called to speak with someone working there and she hung up in my face bc they open back up at 4:30...I was NOT even calling to order a thing from you‼ and I will never order a thing again! The bathroom smells funny and it's wet in there and very rusty! My family and I were craving sushi, so we decided on Sakura. We've frequented the establishment multiple times in the past. . Their menu has a variety of offerings. From appetizers to sushi, to hibachi and more. The front desk ladies were very polite and patient and took our order efficiently. We ordered the Spider Roll, Fried Salmon Roll, King Tiger Roll and Alligator Roll. Several families enjoyed hibachi when staying to eat in the restaurant but we took our meal to go. They encourage you to politely check for accuracy and ours was exactly what we ordered. We will definitely be going back. read more

I'm giving one star because of the service and the portion size plus I had to, to leave a review. Normally me and my husband have hibachi in California, MD and it is so good. We have wanted to try a different location a little closer and chose Sakura in Waldorf. Greeted and seated immediately. After being seated and getting drinks and appetizers, we noticed something falling from the ceiling on my husband plate. It just kept dripping and seemed like it was coming out from the hood vent that had not been cleaned. Brought it to the attention of the cook. He provided a new plate and asked someone to clean the spot that you could see visually dripping. Dripping didn't stop. It dropped into another plate it dropped into my yummy sauce. Some other guest was nice enough to move over to allow my husband to move to avoid the drops. We didn't get to sit close together and the enjoyment of the meal was gone because we kept watching our food for oil drips. Eating was a minimal. It was probably one of the worst experiences I've had dining. Sad part is the staff knew because you can see them watching. No manager or no one approached us to even apologize. This was an $85 meal for two people. Besides the bad experience the food is mediocre. I would not recommend nor will I visit again. I'll stick to my hibachi in California, MD. read more

As a Black woman, I was surprised to read such a negative review from Denise H., as it doesn't reflect my experiences at Sakura. I dine here regularly with my family and have consistently received warm, attentive service and high-quality food. The ambiance is inviting comfortable lighting, good music at an easy volume, and a relaxed vibe that works for both family dinners and date nights. Service has been a standout on every visit. We're greeted promptly, seating is efficient even during busy times, and servers check in without hovering. The cooks, bartenders, greeters and servers have been exceptional professional, friendly, and genuinely attentive to details and special requests. The food and drinks are excellent. Dishes arrive at the right temperature, are well-presented, and taste fresh and balanced. The menu has enough variety to please different preferences, and the cocktails are well-made without being overly sweet. Portions are fair for the price, and the quality has been consistent across multiple visits. Regarding Denise H.'s comments: while everyone is entitled to their opinion, her characterization doesn't align with what I've experienced time and again. I've only encountered courteous staff, clean surroundings, and well-prepared meals. It's more constructive to share specific, verifiable details than broad accusations, and my firsthand experience has been positive. In short, I highly recommend giving Sakura a try. Come for the relaxed atmosphere, stay for the friendly service and great food. read more

This place should be closed down. It's the worst. They do not care about the customers. The cook at our table had such an attitude. He was ready for a fight with anyone who was at his table. We happened to be all black customers in the restaurant. A lady with a small child was burned by the hood. Something popped on her, and the cook went on to explain that it was like it was her fault for sitting there, then he got her food wrong, cooking her steak medium instead of medium well. Because they moved her from the table with the grill to a regular table. So, the useless manager came back with her food on the plate and said she wanted medium-well. Now the customer knows how she wants her food. The cook called her a liar. Why would she come in and order food at one temperature and ask him to fix it? The cook went on to explain in an angry tone to the rest of the customers how she ( the customer) was lying. When I said to him, "This is not right, you should not speak to the customer like that he said Well, go eat at another restaurant. So I left all the food right there. He was nasty, and the other customers had to make him leave the table. The manager is the dumbest person on earth. And if they leave the restaurant in her hands, then and for lease sign surely will follow. They are dirty, unsanitary, and rude. All black folks were in there, and this is how they treat us. Spend your dollars elsewhere. This was like the show What Would You Do. Well, I will never ever go there read more

A lot of haters on this Yelp page, haha. Look, the chairs are sticky, the floors look dirty, and they put a lot of butter and sauce on everything. Gratuity is automatically charged, and the prices are a bit high. BUT - chef dude was a hoot. And it is just a fun family gathering. Our chef was funny, entertaining, and made a decent fried rice. He was expert enough to throw the shrimp into our mouths so even the least coordinated person caught a shrimp. He picked on a few people in our group and we had some laughs. The food portions are large. And the servers are pretty quick with getting in our orders. I can't complain too much because they do a good job with the entertainment and the food is pretty decent. We had a good time. read more

Typical non-authentic Japanese restaurant with mediocre sushi and half-hearted attempts at replicating Japanese food with the result being bland, small cuts of rolls with rice that would not pass muster at an actual Japanese restaurant. I will say that the server was fantastic so he is the sole reason this gets bumped up to 3 stars, as he was great from start to finish, but unfortunately, even his stellar performance couldn't overcome the subpar food. read more

The restaurant has a bit of a bland appearance, but it really big on the inside. We didn't sit at one of the hibachi tables so we were seated straight away. The menu for the entrees and teriyaki were very expensive, no less than $20 for anything. So, I got miso soup ginger salad and sushi rolls. My family thought that it was one of the best miso soups they'd ever had, and we've been to a lot of Asian restaurants. For sushi I got fried salmon skin and tempura shrimp, and they were both delicious. My dad got the chicken teriyaki and the serving was huge. I forgot my bag in the restaurant, and when I came back in our waitress handed it right to me, which was really kind of her. An overall good and delicious experience! read more

Had a great time here. Was a part of a party of 20. Everything ran smoothly. Nice staff. Hand sanitizer available. Staff wore mask the whole time. Had the shrimp and scallop hibachi. I requested no eggs in my fried rice but the griller forgot. So they gave me some from the kitchen instead. The soup was your regular broth. Salad- I chose the wrong dressing- ginger- so that was a no. Yum yum sauce- I don't know if they make it in house but it has no flavor and the color was way off. Tasted more like French dressing so that was a no. Because of that I couldn't eat more than a couple fork fulls. Drink- love potion #9- great, I could taste the alcohol but it wasn't too strong. More stars would have been given if the yum yum sauce was better. Shrimp tempura sushi roll was good. You have to request sushi menu. read more

I love Sakura Japanese Steak House. I've been going there since a kid. Better than Kobe's Japanese Steak House in my opinion. I've also tried the Salmon which is also delicious. read more

As my family and I sat at our table watching our food being prepared. I unfortunately had experience of a roach crawling on my sweatshirt. My fiancé was the one who noticed it first. I quickly backed away from the table to shake it off of me allowing it to fall on the floor. I checked my surroundings to make sure there wasn't anymore. I stepped on it and called the waiter. I'm more than a 100% sure it crawled somewhere from the grill which let's me know that its not being properly cleaned after every use. No, No, No! Nasty, tasteless food swimming in oil. My brother knows I love Sakura's, but what he didn't know was I ONLY go to the TYSON'S location. He tried to surprise me with my favorite dish, but he got it from the Waldorf Maryland location. Waldorf and Tyson's Sakura is like night and day, the food, the staff, the quality and cleanliness is completely different. The Waldorf location staff treat their customers like poor and homeless people looking for food in a soup kitchen, the staff had very NASTY dispositions! Been there twice, last time they charged gratuity for my party of five (two adults/three children). Gratuity is usually for six or more and signs are usually posted. I normally tip between 20-22%. Another small but relevant thing: they are serve smaller less expensive shrimp for the same price as the other locations. We don't pay Sakura's high prices to get SMALL SHRIMP we could get at our local carry-out for $5.95!!!!! They are sneaky and nasty, I wonder what other things they do or skimp on because they don't respect or like their customer base????? read more

I haven't been to Sakura in years so I was very surprised on how the food prices went up. They were extremely pricey. Sakura is like any other Japanese steakhouse. Nothing any different than the others. We started at the the bar. The bartender was very knowledgeable and friendly. Once our party arrived, we was placed at a table where we would wait for our chef. One of the waiter was a little frustrated with all of the request and asked was there anything else anyone need? His tone said to us, In other words, I'm not going to keep running back and forth to the kitchen. I had to request a knife and when it came it was dirty. I informed the waiter and he didn't apologize he just bought me another one. Once our chef arrived, he was humorous and cooked our food to order. I ordered shrimp and scallops. The shrimp had no flavor but the scallops were good. Overall, I don't think I will visit Sakura in the future. read more

They haven't changed a lot if you've been here before. To start things of, they try squeezing 16 into a table that should fit 10. I usually just move a chair and make the side just fit 3 instead of 4, never been yelled at yet. The service was good, the only bad thing is waiting for additional people to fill the table. I understand why, but we had three empty chairs and waited about 10 minutes even though they were never filled. I was surprised that they now ask if you want soup or salad, these are included with the meal and they make it seem as if it's additional item (I even had to look to see if that changed.) The chef was great, she made the meal enjoyable and joked around with the table. I think it would be great if they could change up the show a little though. Once you've been here, there is nothing new. We even had a kid at the table and they acted bored. The food was good, even though it was the same thing I always get. Nothing special. I do think they need to work on their staffs personalities. They welcome you when you arrive, but they don't "thank you for coming" or even say "goodbye" as you leave. May just be me, but not what I'm used to seeing from hostesses. I even said thank you and all they do is watch you leave. Overall this was a so-so experience. Probably fun if you've never been here. If you have been here it is just the same old, same old meal. I enjoy the food and like taking people who've never been there to see their reactions. I will come back though. read more

Plus the waitress said we would be at the table by ourselves. Clearly she didn't understand English. It's 6:30 and still waiting for the chef to start cooking on the table.
