Sakura is one of the best hibachi's in the DMV. The food is always so good and so are the portions, but on my last visit the steak was very skimpy and had too much fat. I noticed the cook was trying to work with what he had, however my cubes of steak were the smallest ever. It seemed like they tried to make two pieces out of one steak. I ordered extra egg in my hibachi but I don't like that they charged me $3/4 for one extra egg. Highway robbery...... I also really hate how they stick so many people at one table. I will say that the environment was nice on a Saturday night. It wasn't super crowded which was wonderful. We were the second people to our table. We had the Hibachi service and the food. First of all was amazing. I got the shrimp, chicken and scallops with a shrimp appetizer in the soup. Our chef was awesome with the table. We said it was very friendly and everyone, even though we were strangers by the end of the night, we felt like family. We had a great entertainment by the chef. I really enjoyed the female woman. She really did an amazing job cooking food. We had so much food. Everyone had large portions and the leftovers lasted a day and a half. Everyone at our table that did the catching the food in their mouth. Everyone caught something I didn't participate, but it was wonderful and the service was amazing. We have wanted to try a different location a little closer and chose Sakura in Waldorf. Greeted and seated immediately. It just kept dripping and seemed like it was coming out from the hood vent that had not been cleaned. Brought it to the attention of the cook. He provided a new plate and asked someone to clean the spot that you could see visually dripping. Dripping didn't stop. It dropped into another plate it dropped into my yummy sauce. Some other guest was nice enough to move over to allow my husband to move to avoid the drops. We didn't get to sit close together and the enjoyment of the meal was gone because we kept watching our food for oil drips. Eating was a minimal. It was probably one of the worst experiences I've had dining. Sad part is the staff knew because you can see them watching. No manager or no one approached us to even apologize. We sat at the bar because we weren't that hungry to eat at a table. It's Hibachi and that's a fave of mine. We took our foodie talents to the bar. Rena helped us. The cook went on to explain in an angry tone to the rest of the customers how she ( the customer) was lying. The menu for the entrees and teriyaki were very expensive, no less than $20 for anything. So, I got miso soup ginger salad and sushi rolls. My family thought that it was one of the best miso soups they'd ever had, and we've been to a lot of Asian restaurants. As my family and I sat at our table watching our food being prepared. I unfortunately had experience of a roach crawling on my sweatshirt. My fiancé was the one who noticed it first. They haven't changed a lot if you've been here before. To start things of, they try squeezing 16 into a table that should fit 10. I usually just move a chair and make the side just fit 3 instead of 4, never been yelled at yet. The service was good, the only bad thing is waiting for additional people to fill the table. I understand why, but we had three empty chairs and waited about 10 minutes even though they were never filled. I was surprised that they now ask if you want soup or salad, these are included with the meal and they make it seem as if it's additional item (I even had to look to see if that changed.) The chef was great, she made the meal enjoyable and joked around with the table. I think it would be great if they could change up the show a little though. Once you've been here, there is nothing new. We even had a kid at the table and they acted bored. The food was good, even though it was the same thing I always get. Nothing special. I do think they need to work on their staffs personalities. They welcome you when you arrive, but they don't "thank you for coming" or even say "goodbye" as you leave. May just be me, but not what I'm used to seeing from hostesses. I even said thank you and all they do is watch you leave. Overall this was a so-so experience. Probably fun if you've never been here. Sooo...I love it here. We are frequent visitor of this restaurant and visit at least 3 times a month and have not been disappointed as far as I can remember. When I did eat meat I would get their chicken and shrimp entree, but now their vegetable entree's suits me just fine. My partner gets the same thing every...single...time! The lobster and shrimp with a side order of salmon. The alcoholic drinks (I've tried numerous) are on point...Love Potion #9 and a simple strawberry margarita are my favs here. I'm a stafford va girl whose used to Kobe Japanese Steak house okay, love that place to death, spent many family outings dining at that place but one day I was introduced to Sakura, and oh-my-lanta Sakura knocked ya boy Kobe out of the park by miles.
