This has been a go to spot for years with friends and family. However today my to go order was taken by an older gentleman i believe to be the manager. When asked not to put put tomatoes on my salad because i was allergic i was told to simply pick them off! I requested again for them not to be there at all. Then i asked for green onions which has never been an issue for the last 5 years or more. Now I'm told okay but we usually don't do that. Only to get to work and all i have is lettuce no onions no cucumber. This wouldn't have bothered me as much if it were a server but to be the manager or someone in charge and this happened. I'm extremely disappointed and considering taking my business across the street. read more

Always a solid pick for lunch or happy hour. I'm partial to the 3 roll special. The fish is fresh and it never fails to quench the urge I have when I;m in the mood for sushi. But happy hour by far is the best. Prices are reasonable, food is good, portions are nice size and drinks specials are on par. Facilities are always nice and clean. I used to dine here a lot ( 2 times a week ) but after tonight's experience, I can't say that I will ever return. We usually get our regular waiter named V but his section was very busy tonight and we got Jaycub. He was horrible. First it took 10 mins to get our waters. Secondly my soup and salad that comes with my bento box didn't arrive at the same time as my moms soup. When my salad finally came, there was no fork. I asked for one and never got it so I had to eat it with chopsticks. Jaycub never once checked on us while we sat there with empty waters. My bento box salmon came 45 mins later. I specifically asked him to put in a to go order when my food came out so it would be ready by the time I was done. I couldn't find him to ask for srirache sauce so I asked the hostess and I never got it. I was done with my food and asked for the bill and we had to wait 30 mins after I was done for our to go order to come out! We were there for an hour and 45 mins total! Ridiculous! I did complain to the mgr and he said "sorry". And the topper was when we got home and my dad opened his to go Soup, it was all broth and onions and not a single piece of shrimp, squid or fish in sight! How is this a seafood soup? So of course I call them and the hostess answers and I ask for the mgr and she says hold on and puts the phone down. I hear her talking to the same mgr and he tells her to tell me "tell her it's inconvenient right now and that I will call her back tonight." So she picks up the phone and says this to me. I tell her "well it was inconvenient when I sat for over an hour and 45 mins but I guess my time isn't valuable!" She laughs at me. I am Appalled at their service! For the sake of this restaurant they better call me tonight or I am driving up there tomorrow and raising hell. read more

Overall, everything was disgusting. Seaweed salad was extremely crunchy. I've only had a seaweed salad in 2 different places but it was nothing like this. The dressing was way too sweet. Calamari was very odd, and not great. I'm not even sure it was really squid. My girlfriend ordered a California roll. It was disgusting. It was clearly old, the meat was bad, and you could tell it wasn't fresh. The avocado in it was mushy, and terrible. Bathrooms smelled, sticky floor, and no toilet paper. The restaurant wasn't busy so there is no excuse for that. We definitely won't be back again. read more

The last review i made for this... place, was so powerfully moving that the manager had the pearland police sent to my door to remove for the fear of being run out of buisness. Let me start of by saying i lived in japan for 2.5 years and i know what good sushi/sashimi is and this is not what you people deserve to eat and be told is good quality. Presentations are off, cleanliness if entire area in kitchen, bathroom, bar, and dinning area is filthy. With the grease residue thats been caked on the tables, walls, and floors of each hibachi its a miracle it doesnt egnite from the fire shows. If you wanted a nice date, go to a better place... Like Aka Sushi House. Great wait staff, great quality vs. price, and i highly recomend the tiger eye roll at Aka, because the salmon is always perfectly smoked and warm for immediate eating. Lets see. Well back to sakuras! Its sad, because when i first came in contact with sakuras i thoughts this was a chill spot to eat sushi and have sake bombs. But then i really met the real sakuras and i am just not impressed. Now im going to close with one last thing. The place has roaches. I took this pic below of a roach i found one day just chillin in the salad dressing. Wow. I dont ever eat out much anymore. Working for the food industry in the past has definantly changed me and has open my eyes alot. I only gave 3 stars because although the food is good, they need to work on other aspects which are bringing down their ratings. I admit, this is the best hibachi place in Pearland - no contest. The sushi is good here. We always get the hibachi dinner (& show) when we dine here and its usually good - flavored just right. Their house salad dressing is okay, not the best, but it's fine. Waitstaff is 50/50. Sometimes, you get someone attentive and other times you get someone that you only see when you order your drinks and then again when they give you your bill. I think they need to spend a little more time training their waitstaff to be more attentive and polite. A few times, we got this waitress that was a bit too flirty with guests husbands/boyfriends. Then we overheard some other waitstaff talking about how that particular waitress was sleeping around with other waiters and trying to pick up guests that were already attached. Number one, if you're going to gossip, don't do it around other guests. Number two, waitresses need to stick to working and not trying to pick up guests husbands/boyfriends right in front of their faces. Fortunately, the last few times I've come here, I haven't seen this particular waitress so the visits have been a bit better. My main complaint would be one of the chefs. There is one chef here that does the hibachi cooking that I absolutely hate to see. He is rude, talks about himself the whole time rather than sticking to the "show" and also makes rude/dirty comments. It makes for a very unsettling and uncomfortable dinner. The whole time, I just sit there and hope he finishes cooking soon so I don't have to hear his dirty jokes and whatnot. Disgusting!!! Apparently, he goes by the nickname "FATBOY" or "SONNY". Can't stand him. Every time we get him as the chef at our table, I just want to walk right out. If I wanted to hear a lot of dirty jokes or get disrespected to my face, I'd go to some dive bar. Not only that, he also starts bashing on other employees and the owner also. When I go there, I want to relax and eat some good food - Not sit there and listen to made up stories about people I don't know or get made fun of for not going along with all the crap that spews out of his mouth. Not to mention, it's kind of gross when someone keeps talking continuously while cooking your food. Disgusting!! The other thing is, he also makes fun of other patrons to their face but in another language so they don't even know he's talking about them. Unacceptable!! All the other chefs are fine. They stick to their "show guidelines" and do a little conversing but they keep it clean and respectful - as they should since people do bring their children to this establishment. So, in conclusion, the food is good but the waitstaff and chef "FATBOY"/"SONNY" need to either be retrained or fired. read more

At the opposite of the discontent reviews, I am deciding to give Sakura a 5-Star. We had a 20 min wait before being seated which is more than reasonable on a Friday evening with no reservation. Our waitress Courtney was great - polite, quick and responsive. Our hibachi chef was fantastic, out of all the tables I could see, I think he was the best! I went in tonight to place an order to Go. The girl who took my order was great, she said it would be a couple minutes. So I sat down by the register to wait for my order at 7:19 pm. Were I was sitting they had a good view of me. So I waited and then finally at 7:51 I saw a girl go to register and picked up her order. By this time I thought they were already taking to long. At the register their were 3 girls (employees) just talking. I asked them so how much longer is it going to be for my order. She asked me my name and I told her, she reaches down to side of register the there was my food, just sitting there. They she proceeds to ask me if I had already paid. I said yes, when I placed the order with the other girl . By then I was really upset, they just forgot about me. Even though I was only one by the register and not one of them bother to let me know that my food was ready. I sat there all that time while they were just talking. So the service was horrible. The food was great as always, been here before several times. Service is very important to me as well as the food. They didn't even apologize for the long wait, so inconsiderate. read more

Best sushi in pearland by far! We come here a few times month and get the hibachi and sushi. Spicy tuna rolls with extra spicy mayo on the side are better than a lot of upscale sushi places...they add something in them to give the sushi a crunchy texture. Also a trick we learned from coming often is to ask for the "spicy" sauce and mix it with the pink hibachi sauce....gives it an awesome kick. read more

I love this place! The sushi here is fresh. They have Happy Hour sushi M-Saturday until 7 and then all day on Tuesdays. You can get a California roll for $3. Most pieces are $1-$1.25 per piece. The hand rolls are $3.25. We have also had the gyoza and they always come out just the way we expect. We come here once a week to get our sushi fix. I have never had the hibachi ( guess I will this week) but my opinion is that this is the best place for sushi in Pearland (Little Tokyo is far from me). read more

The food was good but I was very displeased with the service. I made reservations well ahead of time, but when we got there we had to wait in the entry way for ten minutes (with 3 toddlers). The hostess asked us how many highchairs/ booster seats we needed and when we were taken to our table we had to get our own highchairs and booster seats which were crammed in the corner of the room while our server just watched us. I'm hooked, I've been in Pearland for 2 years and I always passed this place up. Not sure why, just did and one-day a friend invited me to eat here and OMG!!!! This is by far some of the best sushi I've had in awhile, I love there Pearland Roll and Ichiban Roll, they taste amazing. If it wasn't for the "effort" of our habachi chef and the asst manager (I think he was the assistant mgr, he never introduced himself??) Our experience was probably hands down the worst dining experience ever. I'm still in shock at how bad everything was... We were seated FOUR times; first time; bar area - to wait for our last arriving guest and hopefully have a couple drinks, NOT! 2nd time @ habachi grill, we still didn't have remaining guest, we offered to leave as to not hold up other "ready to dine guests" so we went to sushi bar. Finally, after 30 minutes we were served a hard earned drink & 2 sushi rolls. Our remaining guest got there (20 minutes from OUR arrival time), then we were seated BACK into dining/habachi area. Every step of the way we had to ask several times for the basics, water, drink refills, silverware, etc.... Our chef showed up with NO bowls, and no other proper supplies, we waited and waited for everything!! The chef tried to make it fun, but everyone at the table was experiencing their own unsatisfactory service. Our Sakura entrees and our sushi was basic, bland, and totally not worth the price. The receptionist, hostess, and whoever 3 other ladies I encountered at this place were all very disrespectful. Called in to pickup an order of 2 white rice and banana tempura. The girl who answered the phone quoted me 15 minutes. Got to the restaurant within 15 minutes. My order wasn't ready, she said and I quote "should be ready soon." Well, what a total lie. 5 minutes passed, okay. I waited. Another 5 minutes I asked another girl, she said she'd check on my order. Same answer I received, "should be ready soon." Another 5-8 minutes passed I asked again and a woman from the back came out and said "we're sorry we have a lot of orders in the back" NO ONE COULD HAVE TOLD ME THIS EARLIER?!?!? So I asked how much longer because if it's going to take another 10 minutes, I'll cancel my order because it's Christmas eve and I have somewhere to be. And her response, "give me just a sec and I'll check." Excuse my French but, 8 EFFIN' minutes later!!!! She came back with my order without even coming back to see me before getting my order. She had me wait and FORCED ME TO WAIT ANOTHER 8 EFFIN MINUTES for my order of 2 white rice and banana tempura!!! A total of OVER 30 MINUTES TO GET MY ORDER WHICH WAS QUOTED 15 MINUTES WAS RIDICULOUS!!!! And she had the audacity to tell me "Have a good night?!?" What a patronizing *itch!!! That was sooo disrespectful and I'm NEVER COMING BACK TO THIS PLACE. My banana tempura wasn't even packed well and looked rush and wasn't even that great!!! Went here with friends last night, and sad to say everything from the server to the food was mediocre. I've been to several hibachi style places and the amount of food you get for the price at Sakura is a joke. The waitress didn't refill our drinks 1 time. After she brought the soup and salads, we did not see her again. The grill chef was entertaining but for the handful of veggies he grilles for a table of 8 I was appalled. I've lived in Pearland almost a year, and have been hesitant to try this place due to the reviews. Well, finally we made it out. I am so glad we did! Everything was perfect. Service, from the waiter to the cook! The $1 sushi! And the hibachi food was incredible. I was a little worried when others at the table (that seemed to be regulars) told their friends to spend the extra $$ for the filet mignon. But my regular "steak" was mouthwatering and cooked PERFECT (medium rare). My bf had the red snapper and said it was the best he'd ever had. To top it off, they accepted the 20% off coupon that is in all the local flyers/magazines; even on a Friday night. We WILL be back. My only regret is it too me a year to try it! read more

We tasted a couple of rolls and they were great also! They will refill your glasses without you even asking and are very attentive! Since my initial review, I've eaten here twice more. My second visit was to try the hibachi food. In short, I wasn't impressed. A couple of things bothered me - I ordered the hibachi chicken dinner (from a seat at the sushi bar) and it came out with a teriyaki sauce covering it. That was surprising. Secondly, the fried rice just seemed to be missing something - it wasn't very flavorful. I DID try the Orange Mojito, which was quite tasty. I like orange drinks to begin with, so this wasn't a stretch for me. My third visit to Sakura was with my girlfriend during their Grand Opening last week. Overall, an excellent meal of fantastic sushi (big pieces with great flavor). Again, though, the kitchen food seemed lacking as one appetizer (beef negimaki) was just "ok", but nothing stellar. Service was the real downfall - our server seemed new and/or overwhelmed (I suspect they brought in extra help for the busy week). She failed to bring the beef appetizer before our sushi entrees arrived, and also failed to correctly identify that the sake we ordered was indeed flavored (as we had specifically asked). I also had to nearly tackle her to get a refill on our water, which was quite necessary given the intense heat of the "out of control" roll. Our only other irritant that night was the loudness of the band that was playing during the grand opening weekend. It really made table conversation challenging and nearly gave my girlfriend a migraine. I have noticed a few changes - the pepper tuna sashimi we received the other night was cut in larger slices, and served without the sauce I complained about in my first review. There is now a "tiger eye roll" on the menu (maybe I missed it the first time?). And their sake selection has expanded a bit, and we enjoyed the selection we made - an asian pear infused sake. It appears management is listening to their customers and making adjustments on the fly to their operations, which is to be commended. I've had a very nice conversation with the (owner? manager?) Sherry on all 3 trips, and she is very interested in knowing what we liked/didn't like. From my experiences here, and based on some others reviews, I recommend this as a great sushi restaurant, but I can't really recommend the kitchen/hibachi food AT THIS TIME. Hopefully the poor service Saturday was an aberration. For the time being, my rating remains at 4 stars, due to service concerns and kitchen/hibachi food quality. read more

We dined here for happy hour food specials on a Thursday night. We decided to sit on the patio because we had our dog with us. I'll start off by reviewing the food first. The food was good for the price. We had some appetizers from the happy hour menu which were not a bad price. $3.95 for an order of 6 Gyozas or 6 crab puffs. I've had better crab puffs but again, for the price it was good. Our sushi, all ordered from the happy hour menu, was excellent. It was annoying though that none of the rolls had a description of ingredients on the menu. I understand the most common rolls may not need a description, but the others do. I asked our waiter for an explanation of the ingredients in some rolls on the happy hour menu, and although he was able to tell me most, he seemed unsure. Not a big deal but would like for the waiters to be more knowledgeable on their menu items. He was a great waiter, despite that small issue. I will come here again for the happy hour specials. One of our little ones ordered the chicken nuggets and fries. Good to know they have this option for kids. The oldest ordered the kids steak hibachi ($9.95). Good portion again, for the price. This restaurant would have maybe been four stars from me, however, the patio was extremely dirty! I'm not sure many restaurants in Pearland have patio seating and allow dogs, which could make this restaurant stand out. But seriously, clean the patio!!! read more

The only reason why I would come here is for the spicy yellow tail roll and the crab puffs. Other than that, the service is usually lacking and if I do happen to try other dishes, the flavors are not there and it's just not good at all. It's been a few months since I've been here because I haven't been craving sushi but if I do come again, my order will still only consist of the spicy yellow tail roll and the crab puffs. We both had the shrimp, lobster, and scallops with fried rice and everything was great! Some places are real bland and have no seasoning but this was perfect! This is a place I used to frequent and thought I would give it a try again while in the area. It was very disappointing. The food was so-so. Nothing special. Hibachi chicken and steak were pretty dry and tough. The fried rice had no flavor. The vegetables were no better. The worst part was that there were three children literally running all thru the place like it was McDonaldland. The mother either worked there or was married to an employee. No one addresses the horribly behaved children even though they were obviously a problem. I asked who's they were and was told they were the OWNERS'S kids! Won't be coming back. read more
