It was really good. The chef was amazing and hilarious. They accommodated allergies and an overall fun experience. The ambiance is a bit on the older side but worth the experience read more

This was the most overpriced sushi I've ever had. $12.50 for a small, salmon hand roll. The salmon was warm and chopped into tiny pieces. $12.50 for a house sake. I thought the price would have been decent for the nigiri, but it was only for 1 piece. All the sushi was warm. In the rolls, for the price, most places would have had a Cali roll inside. This place was just thin cucumber slices. I would not come back again. Also might add, they did not have ponzu. read more

I recently had my daughters 8th birthday Hibachi party here and everyone had so much fun. It's hard to find culturally different experiences here in Springfield and this was perfect. The food is good, hibachi service was very entertaining... but a bit of a wait on a busy Friday night as they aren't overly staffed. Overall read more

Go through my reviews, and you'll be hard-pressed to find too many lowball 1-3's. I'm relatively easy to please, and willing to forgive a lot of questionable food/service, all in the name of giving a second, third... sixth try, but I'm not sure I've got it in me to be too generous any more to this place. While I'm not expecting a "top of the line" authentic Japanese gourmet deluxe here, I was hoping for a bit of a better experience than our last visit, especially as they've just remodeled/reopened on the other side of the building they used to share with a 24hr fitness gym. I think just about all of their efforts and attentions go to the hibachi "show," while those of us just ordering a regular meal off of the menu seem to be semi-forgotten afterthoughts. While our food and service weren't terrible, for the prices we paid (not quite the top $$ hibachi rates, but not that cheap either...) We were the only ones not eating on the hibachi side Friday evening, so while we didn't expect all the same "pomp and circumstance," we did at least expect a half-way decent dining experience. Instead, we felt rushed, overlooked, and (am I being toooooooooo sensitive?!?) as if we were a slight annoyance. People coming in to pick up take out orders seemed to get better service/attention. Plus (my bad for ordering it, I guess) the Pad Thai was AWFUL, though the Mr. was happy with his steak teriyaki, and our appetizer (beef gyoza) and sushi (sweet potato roll and a spicy tuna roll) were both ok. All in all, I suppose you could do a lot worse, but you SHOULD be able to do much better here than we did, and while I wish them well with their new, updated setting, I can't see how that will happen if the hibachi side (special occasion, not usually regular customers...) and take out orders seem to have priority over those who come in to enjoy a well prepared and thoughtfully presented sampling of their regular menu items. read more

We got take out, 2 orders of: Chicken and Salmon Hibachi The rice was good The noodles tasted good but were stuck in one clump and a bit overcooked or warmed too long. The chunks of chicken were tasty but a bit tough and chewy, exactly like microwave cooked meat. The salmon was tasty but DRY and a bit chewy. All food came in cheap Styrofoam containers which is unhealthy for hot foods. Quality places charge a bit more and properly consider what their carryout containers are and use better quality to-go containers . Disappointed all around. read more

Great Hibachi experience in Springfield. Chef was friendly an funny. He gave the kids lots of attention and was very entertaining. Beautiful place. They gutted the old Golden Bowl and completely rebuilt it. Not even recognizable. Weird thing... The sign says Sakura Steak and Sushi Bar, but the drinking glasses say Sakura Japanese Restaurant Range hoods were loud, but kinda nice with the seating (think Benihana with horseshoe seating around two ranges) as it gave you the feeling that your conversation wouldn't be heard by everyone at the table. We were seated promptly. Hostess was polite but not necessarily friendly. I've found this to be the case often with new restaurants. Prolly nerves :) Took 15 minutes for them take our order. Too long. Nice server, but he was learning too. Chef was very friendly and funny. a couple of little booboos but perfectly normal for a new place. Ordered Hibachi chicken. Came with a salad. Salad came out quickly. Ingredients were very fresh. Tasty salad Chicken was fantastic. A great quality of chicken cooked perfectly, and wonderful flavor. Serving sizes are just right. Some might think they are small, but for the quality and price, they are good. A little slow on the refills. Our chef was great with kids. If you have kids and they can eat something on the menu they will have a great time. Worth a visit if you're in Springfield. read more

I hate to write bad reviews, but this place is truly the bottom of the barrel as far as food quality goes. Had the Chicken and Scallops, Filet and Scallops and my son had the kids steak meal. The lo mein noodles were mushy and flavorless. The filet was definitely not a filet, over cooked and not tender at all. The sushi was inedible. Had the California Roll and Spicy Tuna and both were yuck. The only decent item was the fried rice. For the price you pay, they are making a killing serving garbage food. Save your money and your tummy. read more

The food was terrible! The service was terrible the waitress wasn't friendly and never came to check on us not once! Our food, for two people was $70 and should have only been $40 according to the menus. read more

We decided to try out Sakura instead of Sake last night and I'm so glad we did. I cannot say enough good things about this place. The staff was super friendly and accommodating, the time to wait for food was pretty quick being that it was 6PM On a Saturday! And the food, oh the food was amazing! We got drinks, appetizers, hibachi entrees, regular entrees and sushi and it was all amazing. I recommend the Sakatini, Zombie, Cosmopolitan, California Roll w/ Spicy Mayo, rainbow roll, cherry blossom roll, potstickers, Sakura rangoons, any hibachi entree, and pad Thai! And the second day reheat on the hibachi tastes great still! read more

My husband and I are always looking for more Japanese restaurants to fall in love with (hello, Japanese Steakhouse in Columbus!), so we decided to try out Sakura in Springfield. If we could give 1/2 stars on Yelp I would definitely be giving this place a 3.5 out of 5. A 4 star rating seems a bit generous, but we actually enjoyed most of the food and the interior was nice and clean so a 3 just wouldn't be fair. When we first entered the restaurant at about 3:00 pm, all of the overhead lights in the hibachi dining area were turned off and it was pitch black. They said they could turn on the lights for us if we wanted a show, or we could sit in the bar area without a show which is what we chose. I had a bowl of the hot and sour soup, which was just okay. Not a ton of flavor but it was full of mushrooms and other chunks so that was a plus. For my meal I ordered the chicken teriyaki bento box, which was awesome! The chicken was grilled with sauce and very tasty and served on top of grilled onions and green pepper, but you also got a side of fried veggies (not greasy and super delicious!), 2 steamed pot stickers (great, especially when dipped in the little portion of sauce they give you), and 4 little crab and avocado sushi (I'm not a fan of any sushi or avocado, so I wasn't into these at all). My husband ordered the Katsu, which was a flattened chicken breast lightly breaded and fried but not greasy, sliced and served over shredded cabbage. You also got a side of dipping sauce which tasted great on the very simple yet delicious chicken. Waitress was friendly but couldn't really explain a lot of the meals to us, and it was weird being in a pitch black restaurant in the middle of the day for lunch, but the bar area looked very cool and when we left they were turning neon lights around the hibachi grills on, which also looked pretty neat. We were very impressed with our entrees and the super affordable prices, so I could definitely see us going back again in the future. Though it wasn't on Japanese Steakhouse level it was leaps and bounds above any Chinese buffet you'll find on every corner so it's nice to have a tasty Japanese option a little closer to us than Columbus. read more

Pretty gross. Food tasted weird. Unprofessional staff. Bar was sticky and dirty

As a delivery driver I am disgusted at how I was treated. 45 minutes in their lobby and was ignored the entire time. Several attempts were made to get help, but apparently no employees wanted to help delivery/take out orders. The woman whom I believe is the owner??? Made eye contact several times and rang to the back. Needless to say the customer didnt get their food! I think they forget delivery drivers are customers also, and I will NEVER give them my business ever again! read more

Food was plentiful but more importantly the entertainment was great. We laughed during the whole meal by singing along with our chef and my grandson connected with the employees. The food was good and be prepared to take home leftovers read more

Sushi is one of my great loves, and Sukura does not disappoint! I ordered the Sushi Deluxe, which was 8 pieces of nigiri and a tuna roll. Also ordered a spider roll. Delicious! My daughter had the children's chicken, so she got to experience hibachi for the first time. The chef was skilled and entertaining. The remade Golden Bowl, the previous incarnation, is beautiful. Definitely will return! read more

This used to be the Golden Bowl, my favorite buffet, so I was sad to see it go... but when I arrived here, my jaw dropped. The inside of the restaurant is really pretty, and there's a real koi pond! The hostess, being new to the job, didn't really know what to do. She just seated me and my dad without asking if we wanted sushi or hibachi. I ordered the chicken bento lunch special, which was delicious! The sushi options were OK, not the best. The dessert menus is just ice cream and fried ice cream. The prices are pretty good, and the portions are perfect. It's kind of hard to overeat here, which is nice. I would give it a 3-star, but I bet it's a total party in the evenings. Oh! And all the staff, except the hostess, were actually Japanese. For a short time, I forgot I was in Springfield. :) read more

All I have to say is: gross. The chef dropped a piece of my steak on the table in front of me, picked it up with his hands, and put it on my plate. I almost gaged. read more

Went here while seeing friends I wouldn't give one star if it wasn't for having to put something for a review! We see the sign says 50% off and we all 3 go for sushi then we are sat and we had about 20 minutes to order she takes everything brings out one persons roll and as she starts eating says her by the way these rolls aren't half off anymore! Like you have a sign outside that says so I feel like they only do that to entice people to come in and order tell them and people feel "well we already are here and ordered" so they say "ok". They said the computer was changed he couldn't do anything then we personally walked the manager outside to show him the big sign and then some how he miraculously fixes the system and he changes the receipt to half of sushi....not to mention the if it wasn't a fried roll it was terribly plain!!! I suggest u go down the street to sake!!!!! read more

Sakura Japanese Restaurant - False advertisement don't go!!!! - Japanese Near Me - Springfield, Ohio

Normally I would give 3-4 stars for this service in springfield compared to this area and other restaurants. Me and my wife just sat at the table for 10 minutes waiting for menus while at waiter sat at the bar watching T.V. We left and as we start we walk past the waiter he asked if we were ready to order... Save yourself the hassle and find somewhere else across town. read more

We visited Sakura twice this month and were very happy overall. Very clean and the staff was friendly and diligent. We had 2 different chefs in our visits; both were very entertaining and did a great job with our food. I'd say average price per person is between $20-30 depending on whether you have an adult beverage. Just remember part of the price is the "show". read more

New to Springfield, previously lived in California and expect that quality of sushi. Visited Sakura today. It is a nice, clean restaurant. We ordered fried rice and three sushi rolls. Off the get-go, our sodas were flat so they were returned and we ordered water. The fried rice was too salty and off-flavor -would not order again. The sushi was 2/3;but it had too much rice. Enough so that it was impossible to fit a piece of sushi in one bite, ok? The mexican roll was not good, tasted of grease only. I would not visit again. Maybe the Hibachi is a different experience, but doubtful that the fried rice would be much better. The service was not good. I didn't expect royalty treatment but with zero other customers around us the waitress was not attentive at all. No timely refills, soy sauce, check, etc. Two stars for the 2 good sushi rolls and the yum yum sauce. read more

The hibachi is just an awesome experience and anyone would just love it. The chefs here really make a great show read more

I absolutely LOVED the sushi! Not only were the prices great, but the food was just excellent! It also has nice decor. :-) I was skeptical about it at first because, well, it's in Springfield. lol The other places I've tried in Springfield were HORRIBLE, so it made me leery to try this place... but, I am BEYOND glad I did! This is DEFINITELY my new go-to sushi place! :-D I can't speak for their hibachi, as I have never had it, but I've heard good things about it! I might try it here soon. I don't know though, I really do love that sushi... lol Hm. We shall see! ;-) read more

The only thing I have to share is that I came here expecting some decent seafood and was met with a really odd and uncomfortable experience. I was sitting down in the lobby waiting area while my food was being prepared when a little Asian girl came up to where I was sitting (jumped up on the chair beside me) and with a frown announced "I don't like you, your black" I was in such awe. I didn't know how to process the experience because I literally didn't expect it she couldnt have been more than 5 years old so I didn't understand how she could have possibly built a bias against black people in her short 5 years of life ! What had I done to her simply have a darker skin tone ?? This would not be as relevant to a yelp review if the little girl wasn't the owners daughter... so you take my money with a smile on my face but are teaching your child hate. The food also was just mediocre. I hope this review is seen and the owners get a lesson in both love and sushi :) read more

This place currently is showing 2 1/2 stars. It really isn't a 2.5 star kinda place at all. The outside looks a little dismal and the inside is kinda cheesy but the food is great. The chefs on the hibachi are great. They put on a great show, they are entertaining and fun. The food was really good. The Restraunt is clean and well kept. Table service is prompt and polite. Everybody at our table was very satisfied and walked away with togo containers. Give it a shot. I think you'll be surprised. read more

I think the food is great and so is the service. what was Richard m.doing in the ladies room?

Been going here for a while and everything seems to be going down hill. Last night was particularly bad though. The sushi used way too much rice, the saki tasted like white wine, the service was absolutely horrible. I had to get my bill from and pay the hostess after waiting 20 minutes. The good was decent, but not worth the price or time. I hope they improve soon, because we used to enjoy going here. read more

The food was great. I stopped in for carryout on the way home so I didn't get the ambiance. For carryout it was slow and quite expensive but again, the food was great and the staff was very nice. I don't know *what* people are complaining about. I've been here twice while on business in the area and both times have been tremendous. My husband and I took our 3 1/2 year old to dinner. She was totally entertained by the hibachi chef!!!! She usually can't sit still. Everything was amazing and a great value for her dinner. Our waiter was terrible. He ended up sending our sushi order to the wrong place and we waited a hour and a half. I had to talk to a manager before they could find out order. When we went to pay they subtracted $7 from a $50 bill which was supposed to make up for it. Not only was the service terrible but they were too incompetent to even fix their mistakes. I will never return to this restaurant. read more

Worst sushi I've ever had! We ordered 3 rolls, and they were all bad. 2 of the rolls we ordered looked and tasted the exact same even though one was priced at ~$8 and the other was a whopping $14.95! The rolls were giant because they used an insane amount of rice, and very little fish. If I wanted rice, I would have ordered rice. Overall it was a $50 lunch that neither one of us enjoyed, or really even ate. We took the sushi with us in to-go boxes to give to a friend of ours who eats anything and everything... he even agreed it was horrible. I will say though that I have eaten their hibachi in the past, and it was decent. I just do not recommend their sushi at all! read more

The service is excellent! The interior makes you feel like you're in a five star restaurant but it is very affordable compared to other Japanese restaurants. We've become regulars & go at least once a month because the food is good; or at least the best we've found after living in San Diego for 10-years. Only negatives are: (1) real crab is not used in their rolls, it's imitation, a huge difference in taste because imitation is mostly made of oil & water (2) the filet mignon steak is excellent quality & very tender but because they don't season it properly when cooking it, (salt & butter since this is a lean cut with no fat); it ends up tasting bland. read more

Very good food and at the right price, but the women's rest rooms were terrible. This will make me think twice before I return.
