Our chef getting the party started

Great Hibachi experience in Springfield. Chef was friendly an funny. He gave the kids lots of attention and was very entertaining. Beautiful place. They gutted the old Golden Bowl and completely rebuilt it. Not even recognizable. Weird thing... The sign says Sakura Steak and Sushi Bar, but the drinking glasses say Sakura Japanese Restaurant Range hoods were loud, but kinda nice with the seating (think Benihana with horseshoe seating around two ranges) as it gave you the feeling that your conversation wouldn't be heard by everyone at the table. We were seated promptly. Hostess was polite but not necessarily friendly. I've found this to be the case often with new restaurants. Prolly nerves :) Took 15 minutes for them take our order. Too long. Nice server, but he was learning too. Chef was very friendly and funny. a couple of little booboos but perfectly normal for a new place. Ordered Hibachi chicken. Came with a salad. Salad came out quickly. Ingredients were very fresh. Tasty salad Chicken was fantastic. A great quality of chicken cooked perfectly, and wonderful flavor. Serving sizes are just right. Some might think they are small, but for the quality and price, they are good. A little slow on the refills. Our chef was great with kids. If you have kids and they can eat something on the menu they will have a great time. Worth a visit if you're in Springfield.

Not at s pretty as the first day, but the leftovers are amazing still. Hibachi chicken and steak.

We decided to try out Sakura instead of Sake last night and I'm so glad we did. I cannot say enough good things about this place. The staff was super friendly and accommodating, the time to wait for food was pretty quick being that it was 6PM On a Saturday! And the food, oh the food was amazing! We got drinks, appetizers, hibachi entrees, regular entrees and sushi and it was all amazing. I recommend the Sakatini, Zombie, Cosmopolitan, California Roll w/ Spicy Mayo, rainbow roll, cherry blossom roll, potstickers, Sakura rangoons, any hibachi entree, and pad Thai! And the second day reheat on the hibachi tastes great still!

hot and sour soup -- not great, but at least it had lots of mushroom and tofu bits to nibble on.

My husband and I are always looking for more Japanese restaurants to fall in love with (hello, Japanese Steakhouse in Columbus!), so we decided to try out Sakura in Springfield. If we could give 1/2 stars on Yelp I would definitely be giving this place a 3.5 out of 5. A 4 star rating seems a bit generous, but we actually enjoyed most of the food and the interior was nice and clean so a 3 just wouldn't be fair. When we first entered the restaurant at about 3:00 pm, all of the overhead lights in the hibachi dining area were turned off and it was pitch black. They said they could turn on the lights for us if we wanted a show, or we could sit in the bar area without a show which is what we chose. I had a bowl of the hot and sour soup, which was just okay. Not a ton of flavor but it was full of mushrooms and other chunks so that was a plus. For my meal I ordered the chicken teriyaki bento box, which was awesome! The chicken was grilled with sauce and very tasty and served on top of grilled onions and green pepper, but you also got a side of fried veggies (not greasy and super delicious!), 2 steamed pot stickers (great, especially when dipped in the little portion of sauce they give you), and 4 little crab and avocado sushi (I'm not a fan of any sushi or avocado, so I wasn't into these at all). My husband ordered the Katsu, which was a flattened chicken breast lightly breaded and fried but not greasy, sliced and served over shredded cabbage. You also got a side of dipping sauce which tasted great on the very simple yet delicious chicken. Waitress was friendly but couldn't really explain a lot of the meals to us, and it was weird being in a pitch black restaurant in the middle of the day for lunch, but the bar area looked very cool and when we left they were turning neon lights around the hibachi grills on, which also looked pretty neat. We were very impressed with our entrees and the super affordable prices, so I could definitely see us going back again in the future. Though it wasn't on Japanese Steakhouse level it was leaps and bounds above any Chinese buffet you'll find on every corner so it's nice to have a tasty Japanese option a little closer to us than Columbus.

Food was plentiful but more importantly the entertainment was great. We laughed during the whole meal by singing along with our chef and my grandson connected with the employees. The food was good and be prepared to take home leftovers

Very good food and at the right price, but the women's rest rooms were terrible. This will make me think twice before I return.

Better than ramen I've had in San Francisco, Atlanta, Chicago or Dallas. The chili oil or sashuan oil is not as hot as I thought. Easy to eat, even if you can't tolerate much spice. I wasn't as surprised this time by the location in a neighborhood, something that gives it a very welcome feel and suggests with the addition of a covered outdoor porch with picnic tables that this is a good neighborhood hang. I was late for lunch, almost two but there were some folks still finishing up. Good vibe, good music and casual atmosphere. I opted for the Takoyaki app which was tasty and not so burning hot that it scorched the roof of your mouth. Also the right amount of mayonnaise as opposed to often an excess. The Ramen Flight was fun in principle but I wouldn't do it again. I unwisely and perhaps naively assumed there would be mini versions of the full serving of Tonkotsu broth with Mayo, Thai curry and Szechuan with scallions. But it really is just the broth and ramen. Expected the Szechuan to have some heat and peppery lip buzz but did not. The Thai curry was super salty. Just missed some option of veggies and protein. Finally I would suggest not sitting near the front near the stairs to the kitchen. The spot has competing music soundtracks with two different play lists battling between your two ears.

The rice in it is hardly seasoned and just didnt taste "wow". Their yakisoba is a weird medley of rice noodles in some brown sauce they call yakisoba (like they didnt even use the actual noodles!) I got the katsu kimchi jiggae... they put a perfectly fried katsu INTO the bottom of the jjigae..... like it was wet and sad. And for some reason my son had a full bowl of rice and mine was only half full?? The kimchi flavor was off... almost tomatoey? Needless to say.. my husband barely ate his yakisoba. I took 95% of my stew home. To top it off as we were checking out, they came and said they were having some troubles with conmecting tp their card people... if we could ..pay with...cash? And i had to send my husband out to an atm... and then it came back online. In all this they couldnt even give a small discount for this situation. I am sad to say I am likely not to return... this round of ownership change has brought the place down.

As much as I LOVE my hometown, "Field of Springs" Speakeasy Ramen (check it out!!) this new-ish location in Troy is OFF THE CHARTS good!! This was a very last minute decision to meet friends over in Troy, so I broke my STRICT rule and didn't check the EXTENSIVE menu ahead of time. They offer a few of the "best of" from Speakeasy Ramen, but TONS of different, DELICIOUS choices!! We shared a crab rangoon app and sushi arancini balls that were just AMAZING. One friend got the ramen flight (great idea for sampling, btw!!) and the other friend orders a philly cheese steak roll, and I got the hakodate ramen, which was WONDERFUL!! We didn't drink, but their cocktail list looks great as well!! I know I say it every time I "discover" a great new place, but I TRULY wanted one of EVERYTHING on their menu!!
