I placed a curbside pick up order at 7:40pm for a 8:30 pick up. I arrived at 8:30 and tried to call in like instructed on the site and it went straight to voicemail and the said that the mailbox was full and hung up. I went in and told the kid that I was here for the Butler pick up order and he said that it wasn't ready yet and that I'd be another 10min . He said he'd run it out to me once it was ready. I went back outside and waited inside my truck for 20min and tried to call in again and got the same thing as the last time so I went back inside and the kid was wiping down the window and my order was just sitting on the counter and who knows how long it was sitting there. I haven't been here forever, but it was handy when I was staying in a hotel nearby and needed to get some dinner. Online ordering is super easy, and very customizable. The food was ready pretty quickly, and pickup was also easy. I got a butter crab roll, which is a big specialty crab salad roll with a butter dipping sauce. Nicely rolled, good flavor, and a pretty good value. I got crab Rangoon which was just average. They were very pretty, but they were mostly cheese, and nothing special. I also got the spicy steak fried rice. Not spicy at all, I guess it's just seasoned with a little garlic. Small amount of tender steak spread throughout, and good fried rice in general. I've gone here twice and left without eating twice. The first time I was seated with another family for a total of eight of us seated at the hibachi. We were served soft drinks and waters pretty quickly but then nothing else. While I have no idea how long the other people were there I know the group I was with sat there over twenty minutes without ever seeing a server again. We waited another ten minutes and then simply left. Thirty minutes with nothing but a Pepsi. Recently I went there again this time during the week with a party of five. We walked in and said we wanted to have hibachi. The hostess was training another someone and there was easily six employees hanging around the back where the kitchen is. After acknowledging what we wanted the hostess helped the person who came in after us who had a take out order. Then the hostess helped someone else ignoring us a second time. Here's my quick thoughts of this place while it is still fresh in my brain. When we were ordering I had a hard time wanting to get hibachi pick up for $22.00 a meal. My sister got the chicken and filet and was very pleased with it for $27.00 but I just couldn't do it. Haha I feel like you're paying for that experience that you're missing. Anyways, I got the plum tempura chicken for $15.00 which also cake with soup and salad. Which I thought was a pretty good deal. Here's the downfall, when you get tempura (anything) it's not going to keep that crunchy texture. I made the mistake of getting it though. It had great flavor, the plum sauce was good and there was nice pieces of chicken in that soggy tempura but that texture was eh. Soup was basic but good, salad and ginger dressing good, Snow Mountain sushi roll was pretty bad. I'm not really that picky with sushi but this roll just tasted premade. I could of gotten a better one at the grocery store. However, my sister is pregnant and we had to get a roll that was fully cooked and that's why we picked it. If I try another roll here, I'm gonna try a more flavorful one. So next time I come, I'm going to eat inside the restaurant and get shrimp and chicken hibachi with the experience. We enjoyed ourselves... Japanese steakhouses are really more about the show than the food but the food was really delicious. The chef did a really nice job of entertaining and cooking. I had the the filet and scallops while wifie had the salmon and shrimp. My only complaint is that their organization seemed off... meaning the service was slow getting drinks refilled and getting dishes cleared. They have a limited number of chefs so you do have to wait a bit for them to get to your table so if you are with friends you have some time to socialize. First time here and it was a great experience. Our "pretty fly for a white guy" chef was personable, funny and makes some awesome food. He made conversation with all of us at the table. Some of the kids were pretty shy but he made sure to include everyone. His hibachi skills were spot on. Our waitress was very friendly and made sure we had all we needed. We've been going to Yamato for the past two years and typically always have a good experience! Our preference is to have the food cooked in front of us because it seems to be the most fresh. We've come during lunch and also ordered takeout and it is dry and overdone. Our last encounter there about a week ago was disappointing. We came during happy hour and no one could tell us what the happy hour specials were so we took a gamble. The one waitress pointed to the entire menu and stated, "it all should be discounted" and quickly walked away. The second waiter said he didn't know so when asked for clarification he said, "the owner said almost anything you choose" again, no concrete answer. Lastly, we asked to order the Yamato Trio for 2 and were told we couldn't have that because we were the only couple seated despite the fact that meal was more expensive than two separate orders. Generally good experiences but for the price, the staff should be more educated about the menu and there shouldn't be limitations on what you can order (especially if the menu item clearly lists its for 2 people). read more

Pros: Price was great - on Wednesday nights you get buy 1 roll, get 50% of 2nd roll Service was friendly and fast. Cons: Flavor of rolls was seriously lacking. We ordered a spicy tuna roll - pretty much a standard order of sushi for us wherever we go and usually spicy sauce/oil is either mixed into the sushi or a spicy mayo is added to the top, or both. Yamato's spicy tuna had no heat or flavor. We had to ask for a side of spicy mayo to make it palatable. While I appreciated the salad and soup that came with our order, the soup had a terrible flavor. Towards the end of the bowl, there was a ton of black grit from the pepper. Gross. My little one wouldn't touch it. The salad hadn't been drained well so it was super soggy/watery on the bottom. I don't think I'd be back. read more

I am definitely a fan of Yamato, it is our closest japanese steakhouse and its also our go to. We go at least once every 2 to 3 months. There are better ones in Columbus, but Yamato does a lot of things very well so we rarely make the extra drive. Yamato is rarely crowded, we have never waited for a table and the tables usually are not full unless you go right at dinner time. They have some really great sushi rolls for apps, we like the boston roll and the california roll. We choose to eat hibachi style every time, they also have regular table service though if that is more your style. You can eat all the regular hibachi meats and combinations. The dinner meals come with fried rice, noodles, veggies, salad (with great yum yum sauce), soup and of course the meat you choose. The filet and scallops are very good choices, we have never been disappointed by them. Depending on your hibachi chef, your experience may vary a little, they all do things a bit different. They have ample free parking. They take credit cards. They serve pepsi and have sweet tea. The bathrooms could stand to be a little cleaner. In the winter time, bring a jacket in it can get cold with the exhaust fan system. Also, fair warning this place (like most japanesse steakhouses) is expensive. It is normal for my and I to spend $70 or so on a meal here. Though if you were frugal you could do it much cheaper. read more

While Yamato may not be the best Hibachi in a 25 mile radius, it is one of the most competitive on prices for the quality of food! Plus if you live northwest of Columbus then this is the place to go! Located on Coleman's Crossing in Marysville in the strip mall near Honda of Marysville and Wal-Mart. This place has everything that sets them up as one of the best restaurants in the Marysville area. Highly recommended by many, the customer satisfaction, and quality of food will have you coming back for more. This place never seems to 'drop the ball'. Yamato is my favorite restaurant in Marysville and we probably go at least once a week. I often crave certain things on their menu. I look at Yamato as a few different restaurants in one that serve a few different moods that I might have. First, it's a great hibachi restaurant where the food is excellent and the chefs are fun and engaging. Second, the sushi is superb and fresh. Third, it's a nice bar with a great drink menu, solid wine and sake selection and consistently pleasant service. Service is always excellent and I think it comes from the leadership of local residents Donny and Tommy that own the place. Donny is the sweet lady that often greets me when I enter. I've never had a bad experience with the staff whether it's gifted Sushi Chef Lee, the always smiling Gabby, Mackenzie or anyone else in the restaurant. They have clearly made service a priority and it works for my family because we're there all the time. Regarding the food, everyone loves hibachi and my guess is that is what draws the most people in. Even the pickiest eaters in my family that might say "I don't like Japanese food", I'd ask "Do you like grilled chicken, steak or shrimp? What if it's juicier and more tender than you can do at your patio grill at home?" Let me tell you about the sushi. I used to hate sushi and thought the idea of raw fish was gross. Some good friends of mine got me started with it in DC 20 years ago and it grew on me. I started with the California roll - just American veggies. Yamato has a Philly roll too - Smoked Salmon and Cream Cheese. If you've never tried sushi and are afraid to, pick one of the above two rolls. Next, I moved on to the cooked, not raw, rolls like Shrimp Tempura rolls (which is now a staple in my family). Who doesn't like fried shrimp? Not many people. If you like fried shrimp, try a Shrimp Tempura roll. Then I moved on to the rolls with the raw fish, which for a picky American sounded crazy, but I really love them. Yamato has such a great mix of rolls, creative selections and they'll customize anything for you. If you like Tuna Salad sandwiches as I do, then start with a Tuna roll. They have Spicy Tuna too which I really enjoy. Taste in sushi is really a personal thing. I love Eel too (sounds gross but it's amazing). Finally, I moved on to Nigiri (with rice) and Sashimi (just the fish). Once you grow to appreciate quality seafood and sushi, you'll ask yourself why you cook it, dry it out, and remove a lot of the flavor. My favorites now are sashimi - Tuna, Salmon and Yellowtail. I love sushi and can't get enough of it, plus it's really healthy. Yamato also does awesome arrangements if you order enough to get a sushi boat. It's like delicious food and art at the same time. Usually I get to see Lee painting my plate with his creations. It tastes as good as it looks. If you worry about eating raw fish and food safety as I do, you should know a few things. Google it yourself. First, fish used for sushi is among the highest quality fish that you can buy (think USDA Prime in the Beef world). Second, it's immediately flash frozen to crazy subzero temperatures then shipped all over the world overnight. I have found that unless you are catching seafood yourself or buying off of a dock or locally caught seafood store, Sushi restaurants have some of the freshest and highest quality fish that you can get. In fact I'd trust them more than the grocery store which often hits many stops (and worse many temperatures) before we get to buy it. I've eaten a lot of raw sushi at Yamato in their 3 years of business and it's never made me sick. Grocery store beef and fish - not so much. That brings me to my last dimension of Yamato - their prices. Yamato is not a fast food place. It's a quality restaurant. Menu prices are a direct reflection of the prices of the food that the restaurant buys and puts on our plates. Looking at their menu, lunch hibachi starts at 8 bucks, dinner hibachi at $13.95 with the trimmings. The combos go higher. Personally I love the shrimp and filet mignon combo. Add fried rice and egg yolk sauce, it's a bit more. I'm always bringing home leftovers. The bottom line is that this food is excellent. You are getting your money's worth and it's cheaper than going to Dublin for a similar meal. Good quality food costs more. Maybe we can't afford an all out family hibachi dinner every week, but when we do it's awesome. Just a few other favorites that we love: Gyoza (dumplings). They even created a Sweet Potato Roll. Spring Rolls are outstanding. I love the clear soup too. I've even tried to make it at home too. It's beef broth and mushrooms. How hard is it? I can't do it, but they can. Soo good. Lobster Rangoon. Shrimp Tataki - excellent. Wow this is the longest review that I've ever written. I was just there again yesterday so it's fresh in my mind. If you haven't tried Yamato, give it a shot.
