The interior was nicely decorated, the menu was very cute, and they give you a jug of water so you don't have to wait for refills! The summer rolls were very generous in the amount of veggies in the roll, as well as tofu. The only modification I may have liked was having a little bit more sauce, as the roll itself was massive, but this may just be a personal taste, as I like things saucy. The Pad Thai was very savory and flavorful. It was very fresh and came out steaming hot! This was our first time trying Rad Na, and it was quite delicious. The gravy on the noodles was very flavorful and complimented the chicken, noodles, and broccoli excellently. I would recommend adding a little bit of chili flakes or oil just to give it a kick if you like things a little spicy! This dish is a great option for people who like saucier dishes like pad see ew but don't want something quite as sweet-highly recommended! The Thai Iced Tea is definitely worth it here! It comes in a cute little cup, and isn't overly sweet but hits the spot. The Paradise on Earth Cocktail was a really good rum cocktail, but was definitely strong! We got drunken noodle and kapow. Both with cut meat chicken and beef, respectively. Good amount of sauce and spice. Lunch came with 1 veggie spring roll and salad or soup. Also $1 foundation coke was a deal. Total bill was about $35. Inside is cute and decorated similar to 4 Sisters. Good for meeting an old friend. Staff was friendly and quick. read more

In theory they could get a 4 stars but the "eggplant lover" dish today was epic fail. They used to use Asian eggplant which is long and skinny but have now switched to western eggplant which is ginormous. The difference is in the tastes and texture. Asian version is buttery and doesn't have that blandness. Anyhow, they deep fried the eggplant and it's just full of batter with no taste. Other dishes are good as per usual: crab fried rice, green Curry, pad Thai, pad see ewe, mango salad. I'd come back as it's my Togo Thai spot but will not get eggplant again. read more

Although I don't get a "wow" factor here, the food is consistently good. Tonight we had dinner here and the service was good and the food was quite good except the fried tofu in the pad Thai. Larb gai was really enjoyable with perfect spicy level. Fried calamari was cut differently but okay. I wonder why they don't serve the legs though. I love calamari legs or tentacles. This place has been on my radar and no further delay, I got some takeouts from here this weekend. I got 2 dishes: spicy basil ka prow (stir fry of chicken and veggies) and garlic pepper perfect with chicken. The staff seemed friendly when I placed my order on the phone and picked up my food. The food was good, but it's not the best Thai food I have had so far. The ka prow had a spicy kick but it was not too overwhelming. The garlic pepper chicken was okay, as it could've had more flavor. The portions of both dishes seem fair with the price that they charge. The restaurant was small but it was cute, especially for a date. Are here today after the craft show at the Dulles Expo Center and it was pretty good. The curry was really creamy, sweet and the veggies were nice and soft. We came for dinner on the patio. The service was attentive. I had the drunken noodles and hubby had the pad ka prow. The drunken noodles were decent, the noodles were the best part. I do not recommend the ka prow, however. The chef uses too much dark soy sauce I think. It's too sweet and the flavor is off. Lunch special is a great deal and service is quick and efficient- perfect for a weekday lunch. Ordered the fried rice, drunken noodle, and green curry. All three delicious and filling. Green curry was slightly spicy and very creamy/savory. Drunken noodle which we got at level 3 spice was very spicy but totally worth the heat- they use Thai peppers inside the dish along with spice in the sauce which brings this spice level dangerously high! Stumbled this place on Yelp. My gf and I decided to try it out since she was craving Thai food. The place is pretty small and has a indoor and outdoor sitting. The interior reminds me of Sister's Thai which was cute. The service was good, they were very attentive. The food was good and we both got the lunch special. The lunch special came with two appetizer and a entree. I got Tom Yum and Springroll and she got Tom Yum and Papaya salad. Both were extremely good. Really like the springroll with sweet and chili sauce. She got drunken noodles with beef and I got pad thai with pork. I tried some of her beef drunken noodle and the beef was chewie. Not tender. Same with the pork. It was dry. That's the only con about our experience but overall the flavor was there. The thai ice tea was good too. I have ordered here twice now, Its actually so very close to where I am currently staying. I'M VERY HAPPY ABOUT IT Too! So far everything I've ordered has been more than delicious... From the Tom Ka Soup a favorite of mine sometimes I get extra white rice and shrimp and add it in.....yummy.... , Chicken Satay very tender and nice meaty pieces and lots of peanut sauce too! Duck Curry and the Panang Curry these two dishes were fantastic if you like duck and peanut sauce.... Never get enough of those.... Basil Fried Rice is very flavorful highly recommended, Sticky Rice with Sweet Mango interesting combo wasn't what I was thinking, but delicious all the same, Piping hot, generous portions too. This place changed my mind and honestly, this is the only place I prefer over Sister Thai and any other Thai restaurants. Been here twice with my girl, and both visits seem to indicate that, while not by miles ahead, Sakoonthai has become my favorite Thai restaurant in the DMV area. Restaurant is tiny, with limited space indoors. We opted to sit outside for safety and to have space to ourselves (approximately three outdoor tables). The decor is super cute, both in and out. Service was also very friendly and immediate. Food is amazing, simply put. My girl's favorite is the beef salad, and if you never had a thai salad before, I would highly recommend - it's a flavor that's difficult to describe, spicy and citrusy? We've also had the Calamari, Special Duck, Drunken Noodles, Coconut Shrimp. While all great, I rate the Duck especially high, as I have never seen duck fried before - it was absolutely delicious, flavorful without the greasiness that is often associated with duck. UPDATED Review: I'm updating because my last review was about a year ago, and it was very brief. Sakoonthai is definitely a 4.5-5 out of 5. Yes, it is a bit small; however, it gives a comfy and cozy feel and the interior design is beautiful. They also decorated very elegantly for December. You might want to make a reservation if you are going during prime lunch/dinner times; however, I usually go after/before the rush so I usually can get a table. The food is fantastic! AND the prices are pretty decent as well! They give you good sized portions for the noodle dishes! I've had tha pad thai, drunken noodles, papaya salad, and spicy basil/ka pow. All good. I recommend getting the papaya salad to help cleanse the palate--and if you want something refreshing while eating the entrees/noodles! I've only tried the chicken as my choice of meat-but hope to try the others in the near future (entrees and noodles with chicken are only $10.95). I've found my new go-to Thai spot in the area! I've dined here prior to the COVID pandemic but have ordered delivery countless times because 1) it hits all of my Thai food cravings and 2) support local businesses! Sakoonthai's menu is considerably large and has all of the classic Thai dishes. My favorite dishes are the steamed mussel lover (the spicy chili sauce is amazing), red curry, pattaya seafood (stir fried seafood in red curry sauce) and crabmeat fried rice (which has always come with a generous heaping of crabmeat!). The price point is fair and the portions are filling. The restaurant itself is cozy with super cute decor. Reservations are highly recommended or else you may have to wait. The service was friendly when I dined in, and I've had no issues with delivery since we began practicing social distancing. read more

Sakoonthai has provided its quality food and friendly service to my family for 10+ years, despite them moving to a smaller location from the previous in the Costco plaza area. I just wanted to S/O to the owners and say thank you for bringing Thai food into the community. Their pad thai is never dry and never too over seasoned, tamarind is one of my favorite things to taste in pad thai! The amount and servings during their lunch specials (before COVID hit) were oh so generous! Drunken noodle is a must here, just get it, it's not spicy and it's not salty, oily, or buttery. If you don't like chicken/beef/pork or veggies, then boot yourself mate. ALSO, get Pad woon sen, it's glass noodles with a bunch of veggies and meat in it. I can't describe the flavor besides not sweet, salty, or bland; its perfect! The Papaya salad has a kick to it, but its a gentle kick in my opinion. Thai fried rice is so different from dolsot bibimbap (Korean rice dish). Thai rice is a smaller hardier grain, anyhow, I request this to be spicy! I enjoy the birds eye pepper they throw in, I add more Thai pepper when I get home cause I'm a maniac for heat. My friend and I got Thai food delivered from Sakoonthai during the pandemic. The dishes were pretty tasty and quickly delivered! The best dish was the mango sticky rice. The dish with the prettiest presentation was the summer rolls (but they had too much lettuce for my taste). The Massamam curry had nice flavor, but I thought the crab fried rice was bland. Also, the chive dumplings were greasy and didn't have much flavor except for the side sauce, which I mostly used to liven up the crab fried rice. We ordered take-out from Sakoonthai a few weeks ago. Ordering process was easy and included convenient online payment options. The food was delicious! Loved the fried tofu; the packaging was thoughtful too in that they poked holes in the corner so the steam could escape, preventing the tofu from losing its crispness during transport. Obviously we didn't eat inside but we did wait at a table for a few minutes for the food to come out. The decor is cute, not quite "traditional" Thai but certainly cozy, but it is a very small restaurant so I probably would just order to-go again. Recommended for your next take-out night! read more
