Nestled in the sweet town of Gibsonville stands the Burke Manor Inn and within it is the French cuisine of St Jacques. The dining rooms are beautiful and classy, and the wait staff is attentive and welcoming. Not being sure of what wine to pair with my meal, the waiter was quick to check with Chef Lil for recommendations. I had the soft and decadent short ribs with truffle Mac and cheese and my husband had the lamb with roasted potatoes. For dessert I had a perfect caramel bread pudding, warm and delicious. My husband had a French lemon tart that was a perfect combination of tart and sweet. Our entire experience was sublime and we left feeling really full and taken care of. What a great gem of fine dining!

This bed & breakfast is beautiful. My husband's family planned a surprise dinner here to celebrate a very special Birthday and we all had a wonderful time. The menu was a preselected coursed meal but we had a few options to select from for the salad, main course and dessert. Here is what we tried: Amuse Bouche- a cheese puff, this was a nice light option to start The bread basket was brought around throughout the night, I liked the multigrain but the table favorite was the olive bread. Goat Cheese Salad (we also had the option of a Mixed Green Salad but everyone picked the goat cheese), this was delicious Escargot- not for me but the table enjoyed it Peppermint Sorbet- I usually do not like peppermint but this was a delightful palate cleanser For our main course, we had the option to choose from the Butternut Squash Ravioli, Beef Bourguignon or Dorado Oscar. I chose the ravioli and my husband chose the beef. The fish was a very popular choice at the table but my personal favorite was the beef out of the three. Last we had dessert, I chose the Creme Brulée. Ice Cream & Sorbet was the other option. We had three wines that were recommended and it kept flowing all night. My favorites were the Chenin Blanc and Pinot Noir. Saint Jacques at Burke Manor is the perfect way to celebrate a special occasion. My husband and I hope to return soon and stay a night.

The customer service here is phenomenal, cannot be matched elsewhere. The bread they give is baked fresh and well paired with their selection. The crunch on the bread and soft inside just makes you appreciate the atmosphere. I started with the beef tenderloin surrounded by a mushroom sauce baked inside a flaky crust served with a side of lobster bites and it was properly cooked and flavor was off the chart! The meal did not end there as they did a good job with the other pairing I ordered such as the butternut squash and the fresh fish.

I remember seeing a segment about this inn and restaurant on PBS, and we decided to treat ourselves to dinner and a night's stay for our anniversary at a place that was still away from our home in Durham but not THAT far away. We reserved a table at 5:30 on a Friday and were promptly seated by our server who told us we could take off our masks now that we were seated. The service and food were top-notch, from our amuse bouche to our salad nicoise, warm goat cheese salad, duck entree, flounder with caviar, palate cleanser, complimentary bread, and wine pairings. The only slightly disappointment was our dessert of profiteroles which were mostly pastry and very little filling. Our server joked that we must be part of the "clean plate club" because we made sure to eat everything on our plates. We started by ourselves but the dining area got progressively filled and louder as our meal progressed. One of the articles in our room said they don't usually turn over tables since most parties stay and chat. After returning home, I read our latest issue of AAA Carolinas Go! magazine which listed Saint Jacques among four four-diamond restaurants in North Carolina. I'm happy to say we've now dined in all four. Yes, it's pricey but worth a splurge. Even with two glasses of wine and all that we ate, my wife said she was expecting the bill to be higher. Our breakfast with our hotel stay included probably the fluffiest scrambled eggs I've ever had. It would have been nice to have dined on the porch but I guess you have to request that in advance and we did not. We'll remember that next time.

I'm generally not a big fan of B & B's, especially not B & B's in older structures that allow only so much in the way of modernization - I prefer my comforts in a less rustic manner. And though there were some very nice aspects to our stay here (the nicest being access to dinner at Saint Jacques without a long, dark drive home), I still prefer a more modern accommodation. While the room was very nicely appointed, with a huge, firm mattress, an expansive bathroom with a spa type tub and a separate shower, and even a small balcony, the down sides more than out weighted these pluses. The stairs are sharply inclined with narrow steps, the "house" aspect of the layout lends itself to the noise of doors opening & closing and voices passing in the hall ways, the proximity to the railroad tacks and the resulting noise is less than relaxing, and the location next to an almost deserted strip shopping center is less than desirable. Having said all that, I still might stay here again to have the pleasure of dining at the restaurant. And the breakfast the next morning was outstanding, and served by Kenny himself, a most pleasant end to the overnight adventure!

Omg, amazing! The service, the food, the ambiance - all perfect! I cannot wait to go back. This place is gorgeous. The wait staff was cordial and very informed, almost passionate about the food. And why not - the menu is well thought out and filled with items complex in flavor and beautiful in presentation. Sampled on Friday - the gnocchi, the butternut ravioli, the fried goat cheese salad, the profiteroles and the apple tart. Yum, yum, yum. .

Welcome to the next installment of the quarterly bonus dinner series. After receiving excellent…read morerecommendations from the renowned Meena P, my group decided to switch it up and venture to Winston-Salem for dinner. OpenTable made dinner reservations a breeze as we were easily able to snag a table for 6 at 7:30pm a week in advance. With The Katharine being downtown, parking can sometimes be a challenge. The menfolk were gentlemanly enough to drop the ladies off at the door and park the car themselves. After our group was fully assembled, we were seated promptly. I'm not drinking at the moment, so I sadly wasn't able to partake in the craft cocktails The Katharine is known for. However, I did enjoy an alcohol alternative, Evergreen N/A (seedlip, thyme lavender syrup, lemon juice, soda water). It was a nice, light, citrusy beverage. We also shared some appetizers together. We ordered the Oeuf Mimosa (deviled egg, caviar, microgreens), Escargot á la Bourguogne (garlic herb butter, cognac, red wine reduction, puff pastry), Roquette Salade (baby arugula, baby kale, shaved parmesan, toasted pine nuts, lemon vinaigrette, balsamic reduction, cracked pepper), and Gratinèe Soupe à l'Oignon (croute, aged gruyere, chive). The deviled eggs were delicious as expected, which was no surprise, as they are known for them. I would have liked to know that the order only came with 4 egg halves since we had a group of 6. We would've ordered two if we had known, since they're not the easiest things to split. It was also funny to see the table "fighting" over eating every last pine nut on the salad plate. For our entrees, everyone at the table tried to order something different from the menu so we could fully experience it. We were mostly successful, as the only repeat was the Boeuf Bourguignon (braised beef short rib, cipollini onion, wild mushroom, brussels sprout leaves, pomme puree, red wine sauce). The Bourguignon had a nice sweetness to the sauce that balanced the dish's saltiness. I ordered the Saumon et Gruau de Mais (seared salmon, stone ground grits, smoked garlic buttermilk sauce, black lemon, chervil, chili oil). The salmon crust was so flavorful and well seasoned, and the grits were voted the best side by the table for being nice and creamy without being too heavy. Other entrees that were ordered included Truite Meuniere (North Carolina trout, haricot verts, parsnips, chili-almond crunch, brown butter, lemon), Steak Frites (8 oz Brasstown Farms flat iron steak, truffled parmesan pomme frites, beurre de fete), and Steak au Poivre (12 oz pepper crusted NY strip steak, sauce au poivre, pomme puree, brussels sprouts). Both of the steaks were cooked beautifully. Playing musical chairs with each other's food was probably my favorite part of the night. I highly recommend doing this with your friends! Last but certainly not least, we decided to share some desserts to round out the evening. We ordered the Bittersweet Chocolate Pot de Crème (dark chocolate, torched marshmallow meringue, toasted graham crumb, chocolate ganache), Vanilla Bean Creme Brulee (organic Tahitian vanilla bean custard with burnt sugar), and Banana Pain Perdu (croissant bread pudding, caramelized banana, vanilla bean ice cream, banana chips, salted rum caramel). All of the desserts were stunning, and the banana bread pudding was my personal favorite. The rest of the table was fighting over the pot de crème. The Katharine was spectacular and delivered on everything I hoped for in a nice dinner with good friends. I definitely recommend checking it out!

We had dinner reservations at 8:30 our evening there, our host greeted us and seated us within a couple minutes the place was packed. The interior of the restaurant is 1930s art deco, think "Metropolis" and inspired by the original design of the building. The restaurant itself is not very big and gets busy, when full it is also loud. Dinner was very good, the service professional and attentive. The food was good but not exceptional and at the price point, it should be. A dozen oysters on the half shell, were a good start. My entree was good, however very basic in thought and presentation. Trout, nicely cooked with green beans on top, then shaved carrots. Nothing new or original. The Salmon my partner ordered was even simpler in its presentation. Again nothing inventive or original. The food was good but at the price point one expects it to be great. Breakfast, is walk in service, it is as well busy or was on the two mornings we ate there. A different experience overall, more rushed and noisy. The food was okay, but nothing special or beyond ordinary. When breakfast is $30 bucks or more each it needs to be great, this was okay to average. Then with the slow turn around on our order from the kitchen, almost half an hour to get eggs, sort of a let down. The second morning was better as far as timing goes, the food was again okay but nothing special. 3.5 Stars rounded up for the dinner service staff's effort 01132

It was our first time at Print Works, though I've been to their sister restaurant Green Valley Grill several times. I love the attention to detail when it came to the ambiance of this restaurant, from the lush plants adorning the outdoor patios to the comfortable but elegant chairs to the long curtain panels providing a little separation between other guests. It's truly a beautiful restaurant. I also love that they serve brunch daily! My husband ordered the shrimp and grits, and we both loved the amount of cheese and overall flavor and consistency of the grits. I went with the grilled salmon which is served with a strawberry-tarragon beurre rouge sauce, crème fraîche mashed potatoes and French green beans. The salmon was cooked perfectly and the lightness of the sauce and the creaminess of the mashed potatoes were highlights. We also split an order of the beignets, which are served with honey and a dark chocolate sauce for dipping. Divine. Our waiter was excellent, checking on us regularly but not rushing us in any way. All in all, a great meal with outstanding service, a gorgeous dining room, and affordable prices. We'll definitely return for a date night or another brunch. This would be the perfect place to gather with a group of friends or colleagues, as everyone is likely to find something on the menu they will enjoy and there are plenty of tables to accommodate larger parties. The interior and overall vibe are really nice, and the food was good -- but nothing especially memorable. What completely ruined the evening, though, was the service and how an accident was handled. A server from another table accidentally dropped an entire chocolate dessert shot glass behind me, and I got covered in chocolate -- my neck, hair, sweater, jeans, and even half of our table. Accidents happen, and I totally understand that. What shocked me was that neither the server who dropped it nor my own server reacted or even apologized. My server saw everything happen but didn't hurry to help or check on me. I sat there for more than 15 minutes with chocolate in my hair and all over my clothes. Eventually, I had to call the manager myself and ask for napkins or something to clean up. To the manager's credit, she responded quickly and was helpful. Ironically, my server only came over after the manager had already handled everything. In the end, I left the restaurant with a dirty sweater, stained jeans, and chocolate still in my hair. Instead of properly following up, they simply handed me a business card and told me to email or call about the incident. Honestly, after what happened, why should I have to chase the restaurant for a resolution? A much better approach would have been for someone to ask for my contact information and proactively reach out. Overall, it was a very strange and disappointing experience, especially for a place that presents itself as upscale. Sadly, I wouldn't come back again.

Let's get to the food - For starters, we had the bread & butter, steak tartare, and gnocchi. I absolutely loved the bread & butter (duh) and the tartare, but the gnocchi wasn't for me. Everyone else at the table loved it! For my main I got the hanger steak. Instead of tender and flavorful, it lacked any taste and was incredibly chewy, it was incredibly disappointing. The fries were okay - pretty crispy. I had a bite of the duck and it wasn't for me - the only source of flavor was the sauce and it wasn't a hit with anyone at the table. For dessert, we got the mousse and crème brûlée. The mousse was incredibly dense and rich. If that's your jam, it's for you but I was expecting something much lighter. The crème brûlée was fantastic! Overall, I don't think I'll be coming back. For the price, there are much better restaurants.
