Beef was tender and perfectly seasoned. The crab and chicken entree were also great. The brick oven chicken was paired with the most delicious buttered beans I've ever had. I've been coming to Farmstead over the years and it was one of my favorite recommendations for those visiting St. Helena. I've sent friends, family and out-of-town visitors here, often raving about how good it was. So when I took my immediate family to Farmstead a few weeks ago, I made a reservation, drove over 40+ minutes from the southern part of Napa Valley and genuinely looked forward to returning. Making reservation online was easy, parking is available (although it can feel like a competitive sport once everyone decides to arrive at the same time), the covered outdoor seating remains lovely, the barn transformed to a dining room with its high ceilings is still a beautiful space and the bathrooms were clean. Unfortunately, the food was simply didn't live up to what I remembered. We started with the cheddar biscuits with honey butter. I expected warm, tender biscuits. Instead each of the biscuits were surprisingly, almost as if they've been left in the oven a few minutes too long. The honey butter tried its best to salvage the situation, but was unsuccessful. We also ordered the fried eggplant which skipped right past golden brown and headed directly into "left in the fryer during a staff meeting" territory. For entrees, two of us ordered the steak frites. The cut of the day was a flank steak and we both ordered medium rare. Mine arrive firmly in the medium-well territory. It's disappointing when your steak lands two doneness levels above what you requested. A friend ordered the grass-fed cheeseburger medium. It also came out well beyond that point, dry and crumbly rather than juicy. He was expecting a burger. What showed up as something closer to a semi-palatable hockey puck. The wood-grilled heritage pork chop was probably the strongest dish at the table. At $52, however, we were expecting something memorable. It was fine. Perfectly acceptable. But "perfectly acceptable" isn't exactly the reaction you're hoping for at that price point. Dessert was a small bowl of stracciatella gelato. That's it. No wafer, no cookie, waffle cone shard, no sprig of mint or garnishment to make it feel finished. I can see wanting to accommodate dietary restriction like those who are gluten-free, but it would have been nice to have an optional accompaniment. We kept the drinks simple. Service was fine. Total bill came out to be about $330 for lunch with tip. What stood out wasn't the cost, but the lack of excitement or something being memorable. You're dining at a popular restaurant in Napa Valley, you're going to be paying a premium. At our table, nobody was particularly excited about the meal they had or interested in taking home any leftovers. Maybe it was an off day. Maybe nostalgia elevated my memories beyond reality. Whatever the reason, this experience felt very different from the Farmstead I've enthusiastically recommended over the years. The restaurant was very busy with a steady stream of people coming through the entire time while we were there, so clearly plenty of diners continue to enjoy it. But based on this visit, I don't see myself recommending it the way I once did. I'm just one customer. Still, this was a disappointing return to what had long been one of my favorites in St. Helena.

I'd imagine that the tasting experience is pretty strongly shaped by the person serving you at the bar and the guy helping me was super friendly, down to earth, and yet still very knowledgeable and serious about the craft even busting out a 3D map is the thin to teach me about the various appellations in the region. It was very nice that they had a large selection of cheese and meats we could purchase to take home with us. They also had tons of accessories as well that were priced very well and seemed like nice quality. And the lady behind the cheese counter (I forgot her name) was super helpful and knowledgeable about what cheeses would go great with our wine, same for the ladies behind the meat counter! I only gave four stars because the girls at the register were not very friendly, and the lady that checked us in when we first got there was also not very friendly. Also, the restrooms were pretty gross and needed to be cleaned more frequently. Other than that this was a fun place to visit! We did walk in which was nice so if you need somewhere to do a last minute or unplanned tasting this is a great place!

The best thing about Alpha Omega is that is that it's very family friendly. Not many wineries welcome children and this location was very accommodating. Our children were well behaved, I kept them occupied with lots of arts and craft activities, but my child still end up knocking over a glass of wine. Our server Jokayla was so gracious with us and helped us clean up. She was also very accommodating with everyone's taste preferences and offered customized recommendations for us. This is one of the wineries that did not require an upfront charge to enter which I appreciate so much. Not everyone in our party drank. Up to 2 adults can share a $75 flight of wine. If you purchase 2 or more bottles of wine, the tasting fee is waived. The pours are also plenty so this is a great deal. I just loved their flexibility. Valet parking was free! The winery is upscale, with beautiful views of the vineyard and the water fountain if you get terrace seating. We had reservations for 10:30am and had front row at the terrace. Since wine preferences vary from person to person, this review will be about the tasting experience only. The tasting started with their sparkling brut rosé, which was pretty tasty, however, it seemed to lose its bubbles after a short few minute walk to their fermentation and aging facility, which indicates to me it had been opened for quite some time. The "tour" itself lasted less than 5 minutes and didn't really come with too much of an explanation--it was more or less just allowing us access to the winemaking facility and showing the barrel room. The tasting was seated in their covered, outdoor patio--a beautiful space--a included 3 wines in addition to the brut rosé: 2025 Estate Sauvignon Blanc, 2022 Cabernet Franc Blend, and the 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon 'RLC'. One thing I really dislike about Napa Valley tastings is when they pour you wines you cannot buy because they're available to club members only. It's quite pervasive in the valley and unfortunately, Crocker & Starr was no different. The 2025 Estate Sauvignon Blanc was only available for purchase to club members. In addition, if you like to know the technical details for each wine, they do not have any tech sheets/production notes available on their website or at the tasting. They provide empty bottles of the wines in the tasting, however they didn't match the vintage so it wasn't even possible to know basic information like the ABV of the wines. It immediately sets off alarm bells in my mind when a winery is opaque with the winemaking/product details. Some of us want to know the final ABV, RS, TA, etc, and to not have this information available anywhere is quite bizarre, especially with many producers moving toward more transparency rather than less. Our host was friendly but not necessarily super knowledgeable about the production of the wines. For example, when we asked about RS in the Sauvignon Blanc, she started talking about brix at harvest, which unfortunately has nothing to do with RS in the wine, which she later claimed was 0g/L--a value that seemed contradictory to the palate experience of the wine and impossible to verify without tech sheets. Overall, it was a standard tasting experience and from where I was sitting, not at all worth $95/person. Yes, I get it--Napa is expensive and they're selling "experiences" rather than tastings. However, based on our experience, this was merely a tasting and you can get a lot better ones for cheaper in the valley.

While the vineyard is clearly supposed to be Italian, the best wines are French blends (even the one carrying the name of the owner) and the pizza served after the tasting is an abomination of pizza that any Italian should be ashamed of. The tater tots were good but this is symbolic of the overall experience - it's basically dive-bar quality dressed up as a fancy wine bar. Beyond that, the price of the wines are outrageous.
