I have heard good things about this restaurant but unfortunately that was not the experience I had recently. Three of us arrived on a Friday night around 8:30 for a bite to eat. We ordered a bottle of fairly expensive wine and a couple of appetizers and an order of fish & chips to share. Our first waiter was friendly, but seems in a bit of a rush- and told us that the kitchen would be closing soon - did we want to order dessert too. I think we had a different waiter deliver the food, which was okay- actually disappointing for a seafood place. There was mostly small fried bits for calamari with not very many actual pieces, but the fish part of the fish & chips - was limp & soggy. We brought this to the attention of the server #3 that was now covering our table and and she took the 3 pieces of fish away to presumable show her manager. She never returned. Server #4 brought us the bill- but no mention was made of the fish that had been taken away and it was still on our bill. Unbeknownst to us - one of our party actually had already given her credit card to pay- but when the bill came back her credit card was missing. The server simply said "Oh, I must have dropped it somewhere." Overall a very disappointing experience- no apology for the poorly cooked fish or the lack luster service. read more

Threw a wedding rehearsal dinner for my best friend last weekend, and from start to finish the staff at Sailor Jack's took care or everything and our group had a wonderful experience. Their banquet coordinator Josh and the General Manager Joel were professional, well organized, and were able put together and execute our event with ease.both Josh and Joel were well versed in what they were able to offer, and both quickly demonstrated that they were capable and experienced in planning and running events such as ours. Sailor Jack's has several menu options with a variety of price points ensuring you are able to find a menu that will fit any taste and any budget. On the day of our event we were able to arrive early to decorate our tables with centerpieces and seating cards. Our server (who also happened to be Josh) was composed and efficient in ordering both our food and drinks, and he ensured that everything was correct and on time. I have had nothing but compliments from friends and family who attended, and I want to thank the staff of Sailor Jack's for making my event perfect and painless. I would definitely recommend SJ's to anyone looking to throw an event in the North/East Bay area. read more

We were celebrating a special birthday and looked for a restaurant with a water view and beautiful sunset. After some research I found this restaurant and made reservations. We were not disappointed. The new owners have been in business according to staff, for a couple of weeks. We had a fabulous server named Charmin, and our party of six had a most enjoyable dinner. The service for us was terrific. We ate downstairs, I cannot tell how it was taking meals from the downstairs kitchen to the upstairs dining room. The salmon was light, tender, and delicious, Bacon wrapped scallops were very nice too. Appetizers were Calamari (yummy) Giant prawn cocktail and crab legs. The Clam chouder and Crab bisque, were not great. There are only a couple of tables by the window for a full view. I recommend you get there early to secure the gorgeous view. Desserts were really nice too. Dinner for six with us each ordering a soup or salad, 3 apps, and a couple rounds of cocktails= $330.00 + grat. Thank you Sailor Jack's for fitting us in tonight, resolving a bad situation at your neighbor Bella Siena. I'll definitely be back as I always have been. You will definitely have my regular business! I am embarrassed for Bella Siena. I stopped going given they got popular, not placing value on their regular customers and gave them one last chance tonight. I made a reservation for well in advance for 4 tonight, we are friends living in Benicia and arriving on time we' were told they could not seat us in the dining room despite our reservations. All they could offer was outside in their tent. Granted heaters but it was cold and rainy tonight. I was told they have blankets. I asked if they'd consider taking care of appetizers for the inconvenience and the response I was given was, "sorry, we don't guarantee where you sit with reservations." My response, "Sorry, I am a local resident in Benicia and you have now fully lost my business. This was your last chance." My advice: don't go here! So many other places in the area that care more. 6 of us and a child made reservations for dinner at Sailor Jacks. We showed up on time and they had our table ready upstairs. It was really nice, great view... my brother was stuck in traffic, so we ordered our salads. This is my only complaint... I ordered the Wedge...so good... but it was $8.50...Isn't that a little high for a wedge in Benicia? anyway, The Sole dinner knocked my socks off..It was delicious! portions were great...A few people at our table ordered Fish & Chips... Again the price thing... 2 small pieces of fish... So to sum everything up... watching the trains go by & the sunset on the water was soooo nice...the service was Okay (i think the chicken order at our table held up are entrees) the restaurant was cute & clean...The food was really good! The only reason I did'nt give Sailor Jacks 5 stars was because I don't think the menu was priced right for what you get and for the town itself....It's not SF...Bring that salad down to $5.00... you'll still make a profit and your customers won't feel bruised when the bills comes to the table. read more

My husband and I went in on Saturday with a group of friends the restaurant was pretty busy , we ordered some of their new special prime rib and the sword fish the food came out presentation was perfect food was Excellent service was great , we did have just one friend who's plate was a little cold the plate was sent back the chef remade the dish and apologized for the inconvenience asked if we needed anything else. Aside from that I can say we where all very satisfied with our food and appreciate the fact the chef would come out to apologize that's what I call great customer service and dedication. Ever since my husband and I came back it seems the restaurant improves each time we visit all I can say is keep doing a great job , great food. My family and I came here last night. This was our fourth time in three years. We wanted to "try" it again because the food is usually pretty good as well as the scenery. We were seated with a reservation and 15 minutes before we got our water and drinks. The waitress had 8 tables! The food came out almost an hour after we ordered. The food was over cooked and trying to get refills on water and wine was sad. The bread was good. We asked to speak to the manager, he had such a heavy accent, it was hard to understand what he was saying. We explained the above information to him. He said he had trouble getting good help as servers. We paid for our meal. As we were leaving, the table next to us asked to speak to the Manager as well, same conversation. This is sad. A beautiful location that had such potential. We try to eat local. We will not be coming back to this establishment. read more

Wife and I went to Sailor Jack's last night as they are the closest restaurant to the fireworks display in Benicia. The restaurant was rockin. When we entered the hostess told us was polite, and let us know that even with reservations we would have to wait about 10 min. Not a huge problem, and the time went quickly. After being seated, our server cam over promptly and after going over the specials, let us know that the kitchen was a little backed up and that food would probably take a while. We had expected this as we know the 4th is a huge holiday in Benicia. long story short food came out a little late as expected, we both had weekly special (I the swordfish and her the seafood combo) both were excellent. Even though the wait was longer than usual our server Leslie was so attentive even through the chaos, and we will be back soon. read more

This place was amazing! The view that this restaurant has to offer is beautiful! I went with a group of 5 friends and we had a blast. We had the Oysters, Calamari and Clams for an appetizer. The flavor of the sauces and juice for the clams is a must have! For dinner we ordered the surf and turf, dinner special, garlic prawn pasta, seafood fettuccini alfredo and the linguine and clams. All of us were very pleased with the flavor and presentation. I would highly recommend coming here. Our group is very low maintenance and like not being bothered a million times so this place was ideal for us on customer service. The staff was nice, efficient and they even provide masks if needed. Great choice for a Sunday dinner, date night or just to get out and try something new. read more

Hubby and I thought we'd give this place one more try...HUGE MISTAKE! He had Gumbo, HORRIBLE, and I had a Seafood Salad, also HORRIBLE! For the price you pay portions should, at the very least, fill you up. The kicker...we ordered Oyster Rockefeller for our appetizer. Our dinner came out first!! When we asked about the appetizer we were told they take a long time because they're hard to get. WHAT?? Then our server came back and said she actually forgot to put the appetizer order in. WHAT??? SERIOUSLY?? She asked if we still wanted them and we said yes...about 15 minutes AFTER our dinner they showed up, and they were HORRIBLE! While my first review was very positive, I have to provide an update. My second visit was phenomenal. They have only been open a couple of weeks, but everything was ticking like clockwork. The salmon was an amazing choice; my date said it was the best he has ever had in the Bay Area (Seattle-native). There was not one selection from salad through dessert that wasn't perfectly prepared. Service was good though with the view and food I would be a little forgiving it had been necessary. Next time the mussels with pepper sauce! My husband and I celebrated Valentine's Day at your restaurant and overall had a pleasant experience. The ambiance was delightful, and we secured a table with a fantastic view. Our server, whose name eludes me, was attentive and added to our enjoyment. The clam chowder was a standout, showcasing your culinary expertise. Decided to come here after hearing my co workers speak highly of this place. They were not kidding. Food was amazing ! I ordered the salmon. Best salmon I have ever been served ! Such great taste. My husband ordered the chicken salad and it was delicious. The salad had a large amount of chicken and the lettuce was fresh. We requested to speak to the chef Mr. Joel to personally thank him for our meal. He was such a wonderful person. We are defiantly coming back every Sunday for a family lunch ! Just noticed some negative reviews for Sailor Jack's last night on July 4th. My husband and I went there to enjoy the food and fireworks. Food definitely took way longer than we are used to, but it was to be expected on such a crazy night. The servers were noticeably stretched thin, but they were nice, apologetic, and did everything in there power to make the wait bearable. The food was still excellent, and the view of the fireworks was amazing. We will definitely be back. read more

On father's day everything was great. I am a frequent costumer. We had a party of 15 and food turned out excellent. Dinner specials were spectacular such as the baby back ribs, scallop, and halibut fish. In this town it's very hard to find ribs like this ones. One thing that impressed me was that the chef was able to go to our table and serve for us and asked if everything was okay , that's something I never seen before. Had reservations for a party of 6 on 4th of July. We were seated upstairs by the window. Customer service was great. Everyone was pleased with their orders. I ordered their new Portobello sandwich which was nice and light. The chowder was a bit thick and clumpy but the flavor was good. the service was ok, but once i got to my seat i encountered a cockroach by my feet! First thing i did was tell the owner but he told me if i dont like it i can eat somewhere else!?!?!?! We are regulars here but the AC needs to be desperately adjusted and maintained in the bar upstairs. Start with checking the filters, washing the condenser coils and checking the refrigerant charge for leaks. Most likely it will be the first two suggestions which shouldn't be too expensive. Aside from the AC, Steve, Molly, Simone and Vincent are god sends who are a big reason why we come back. They are awesome!! read more

They serve breakfast lunch and dinner and none of it is disappointing. Ive been coming here for a while. The view is great especially when sun sets. Servers are good and the owner is nice. Salads can fill you up depending what the salad is. Hand made key lime is delicious everything taste great. I recommend sailor jacks any time. THEY DO GET REALLY BUSY so at times you do have to call and ask how long is the wait. read more
