Only took a year to get a reservation but this place delivered on every expectation. The interior is gorgeous, warm and comfortable. Everyone we interacted with was helpful and friendly. The food was just goddamn delicious. The brandade dip was one of the best things I've ever eaten. It's made of salt cod/bacala and just the most delicious, not fishy, salt cod I've ever had. It's served with this garlicky toast that we asked for an extra helping of so we wouldn't leave a single bite. It's warm and creamy and a taste explosion. I had a great experience at Sailor - the hostess is lovely and accommodating, the bartenders are so friendly / just great company, the food is fantastic, and the space is beautiful. Sat at the bar for brunch as a walk-in and had a fantastic meal. Our bartender and server was so wonderful and thoughtful in her recommendations and giving me some insight on their divine N/A cocktails. For all the hoopla and long wait to get a reservation, I was surprised at the petite servings. The Arctic Char entree portion was the size of my thumb. Sure the place is charming, but so are a ton of other restaurants in the area that don't send you home wanting a bag of popcorn. 3 stars for the space and service. We did have high expectations as it's on a bunch of end of year lists. Unfortunately we were underwhelmed. There was not much flavor all round. We got the smoked arctic char pâté to start and had a sinking feeling it would not be a great dinner because it tasted like something you'd get to at a bar with a pint of beer. The beans and rice in the stuffed radicchio tasted good. The sweetbreads were also good. We got a few other dishes which all didn't taste of much so not worth mentioning. But honestly, we couldn't believe the hype after eating here?? It was just fine. Not terrible but just fine. It's such a shame as the space is so beautiful and I would have loved to be excited to go back. Also, we were disappointed that they 86'd two of the desserts. I find it hard to believe that they ran out of profiteroles and ice cream. More like it was 10.30pm and staff wanted to get outta there, so the only options were a slice of ginger cake or scooping out some sorbet. read more

This was the best food I've had in a while. I found myself wishing I could order the whole menu as I saw other customers food come out. The dessert was exceptional and the drinks were beautiful, made with care and expertise. We sat at the bar and the bartender Eli took care of us. He was very knowledgeable of the whole menu and steered us in the right direction drink wise (although there is no wrong direction). Over-salted, under-flavored, glacial-paced service, plates so hot they've clearly been sitting under a heat lamp...waited for at least six months to get a table (and by wait, I mean diligently logging onto Resy trying for reservations for a party of two on a random Tuesday evening), and when the day finally came, I was left so underwhelmed. Wow. Is it tough to get a table? Yes. Is it worth the effort. Abso-frickin-lutley! The seafood sandwich at the brunch service if on offer shouldn't be missed. It is top tier. The green salad w/ oregano vinaigrette is seemingly simple but so perfectly composed, the lettuces are beautiful and the plating is that of a Dutch Master. The Gentleman's relish, new to me, but phenomenal, a classic British sort of anchovy pâté or paste, perfectly paired with the most luscious of toast. The ginger cake reminds me of a Dundee cake without the fruit and almonds, it's dense, dark, and moody and everything you want in a brunch sweet and didn't know it. The FOH goes above and beyond in an effortless natural way. They know their stuff but aren't stuffy about it. Excellent service, really cool group. Shout out to Betty who was kind enough to talk watches with me. I did love the cheeky nautical ambience, it was curated, thoughtful, and fun down to the yellow cabinet in the restroom. Went for dinner. The arctic char appetizer was very good and I would recommend. The service was excellent. The drinks were good - not great, though house wine felt like a steal at $9. The wine was excellent. Service was fabulous. Their food not so much we had a salad to start off and it was supposed to be their "special" salad so it's like about 25 bucks and it was just radicchio lettuce with 1 egg and 1 asparagus lmao soooo overly bitter. They didn't try to combine another lettuce with it to balance that off like a bib lettuce would help or some golden raisins_so there's a piece of advice for them. The salad was so insipid and I know maybe they're trying to appeal to a white gentrified palate but other ppl got tastebuds. Specially for 20 up dollars. It desperately needed pepper salt and acid. I got their quiche and my partner had their burger. Burger was tasty but also again very basic with your typical sautéed onions and gruyere cheese, nothing special. The quiche was out of this world not gonna lie. It was great but the side salad it came with again the same lettuce nothing more just insipid. Just don't bother with serving the quiche with a salad just let me order my own side- which there was only 2 options: fries or chard I think. Also asked to try their "fermented" hot sauce which tasted overly garlicky-(ofc we love garlic but call it garlic aioli or garlic sauce bc there was ZERO spice to it) again idk what palate they're cooking in mind with. Just don't call it a hot sauce lol We then moved onto dessert which we regretted immediately because their almond cake tasted like a newton bar. newton bar with nuts on it actually a newton bar might be better (and I hate newton bars lol) So yeah restaurant def way overhyped. Food is meh. Maybe dinner/brunch menu would be better? Idk if I'll give it another shot though tbh there are far more delicious restaurants nearby. read more

Sailor can be wonderful if its no hassle to go, but is really not worth it if getting in the door is a headache. I much prefer the dinning room, or at least a table, to the bar. The bar is uncomfortably crowded for dinner and the stools have no back - which for me is a deal breaker. I think the Chicken is excellent and most of the food I've had good. The last time a went, on a very small menu, they were out of three items - which I found both frustrating and problematic given the limited options. Most of all though my feeling are a bit tainted by how unpleasant the female host (not blonde) was in terms of coordinating timing. Thats what made me realize, that this place seems really excellent if its overall a pleasant night and easy to go. But really not worth it if its the least bit of a hassle. read more
