TL;DR - Best Vietnamese restaurant in Kingston, better than many in Toronto. Order #6. Saigon delights is a homey Vietamese restaurant tucked away on Bagot street. It was also one of the first restaurants we've been to in Kingston. The real gem at Saigon Delights are the spring rolls - they are the AUTHENTIC Viet ones, not your average Joe. Out of all the Vietnamese restaurants we've tried in Toronto, these were the ONLY spring rolls that tasted exactly like the stalls of Vietnam. It's a shame that only real Kingstoners know about this gem. More people need to discover this place! The #6 staple which includes the spring rolls is a vermicelli dish with your choice of meat. The #7 is also good, and is a curried beef on the vermicelli. If you have never eaten Vietnamese food before, please try pouring some of the Fish Sauce on the noodles - we promise it will taste good.

Saigon is one of my mainstays, and for good reasons: great food, fast and friendly service, and low prices. My advice: try the number 10.

This renowned establishment, primarily known for its takeout options, promised to deliver a unique and memorable experience. As we entered the restaurant on a warm weekend, I couldn't help but admire the tastefully designed decor and the ambiance that was a perfect blend of tranquility and cultural authenticity. The safe and spacious seating arrangements complemented the contemporary expectations of comfort and safety, setting the stage for a delightful dining experience. However, the promising first impression began to wane as we encountered a noticeable shortcoming--customer service. For a restaurant of such stature, I anticipated a warm and inviting reception. Regrettably, our arrival was met with indifference. The employee behind the counter, absorbed in their computer, provided only a cursory nod in acknowledgment. Our party was left to our own devices, with no one extending a greeting or guiding us to a table. After seating ourselves, a considerable amount of time elapsed before a server finally attended to our needs and initiated the order-taking process. Oddly, the restaurant was far from crowded during our visit, with only two other tables occupied. This made the lackluster service even more perplexing. The sluggishness of the service extended to every aspect of our dining experience. Our inquiries for recommendations, especially considering my limited knowledge of Vietnamese cuisine, yielded disappointingly sparse information. The lack of guidance left me questioning whether I would return to this establishment. The true litmus test of any dining experience, however, lies in the food. In this regard, Pho did have its moments. Several dishes from the à la carte menu presented generous portions that were challenging to finish, even for my adult son. The flavors were generally good, with a delightful taste that teased the palate. Yet, the devil was in the details. Regrettably, my order for spicy fried rice with extra hot sauce left me wanting. The dish that arrived at our table was far from the fiery delight I had anticipated, and I had to request additional hot sauce to salvage the spiciness I had hoped for. In conclusion, my inaugural experience at Pho was a mixed bag, defined by both highs and lows. The exquisite decor and ambiance, coupled with the delectable flavors of some dishes, provided moments of culinary delight. However, the subpar customer service, lack of guidance, and inconsistencies in food preparation marred what could have been an exceptional dining experience. While I appreciate the positives, it is clear that improvements are needed in areas critical to a memorable dining adventure. Whether or not I return to Pho in the future will depend on the degree to which these issues are addressed. I hope to see the restaurant reach its full potential, offering a consistently outstanding experience to diners who seek a taste of Vietnamese cuisine.

To be honest one of the worst tasting "viet / Thai" food that I have had. Super unauthentic because I believe it is owned & made by Chinese people. My shrimp roll was basically 95% white vermicelli with 3 shrimps that were sliced in halves and a big piece of lettuce ... all I tasted was white bland noodles. The sauce they gave was very thin and runny (I think water mixed with hoisin sauce?) I didn't know it was possible to have a viet salad roll gone wrong.. The beef noodle was verrry basic at most, very little beef pieces and 50% random vegetables mixed into the noodle. Tasted very much like something out of a food court.. if you are used to the typical and authentic Thai / Viet food you will be highly disappointed with it here. But it seems like Kingston doesn't have much viet/Thai restaurants to compare to.

It's also easier to park here compared to the parent Saigon Delights establishment downtown. Food highlights at More Saigon Delights include: The pho is very good. It's a toss up between this place and Mekong for the best pho in Kingston. The broth here is lighter and more "plain" and that's not meant to be a criticism. It's a clearer, more refreshing broth in the pho at More Saigon Delights. Mekong pho has a heavier, beefier broth. Mekong's beef is better though -- that's the only place in Kingston where pho is served with rare sliced beef that's still rare when they set the bowl down in front of you. Back to the pho at More Saigon Delights: you will get a lemon to squeeze, and a little dish of sriracha and hoisin for adding to your bowl or for dipping. Other items like cilantro and bean sprouts will already be in your bowl of pho. Some die hard pho aficionados insist on the plate of garnishes; well, you won't find that in Kingston so you'll have to do with this way (already added to the bowl). The rice dishes at More Saigon Delights are all very good too. Excellent level of spice, lots of veggies (if in the dish) and the beef/chicken/pork that's in the dish is usually perfectly prepared. Their fried hu tieu (fried noodles) is good-to-very good. Lastly, their bun is a Kingston favourite. Can't go wrong with the bun cha gio #5 or #6 (with grilled meat) because the cha gio (deep fried spring rolls) are excellent here. I think you aren't likely to walk away from here thinking this was the "best" Vietnamese you've ever had. But, each time you finish eating here, you will walk away thinking "yes, that was really good again"...and the same next time...and again when you're back the next time, and at last you realize why it is you come here more often than other restaurants in town.

All were soooo good!! The Cambodiana had a slight kick, but was quite milky rich with coconut milk. It was loaded with chicken strips and bamboo shoots. It basically tastes like a flavourful, watered down green curry... but I'm not complaining! The pad thai was not greasy nor too soft / soggy. There were a few pieces of plump shrimp and the portion sizes were very generous! We were stuffed upon finishing the two mains, and even had to leave some rice behind. A lot of effort was also put into it, with small crushed up bits of ice that quickly cooled down the drink. Delicious! Would love to come back again for Cambodian food.
