My Dad and I came to SC as he recommended it for the food. I am a huge fan of Pho and we started out with summer rolls and crispy rolls. My Dad ordered a large wonton soup and I ordered a small Tai Bai Pho. The summer rolls threw me off as they had iceburg lettuce. The Pho broth was excellent as was the presentation. My Dad told me the prices had gone up by $2-3 dollars. The Pho was $11.95 which I thought for a small bowl was a bit high. I can see why the place is popular as the food was delicious. Food is good, but what kills this place is the attitudes of the waitresses. They are extremely rude and have poor customer service. I had a gnat in the water that was served to me. I told the waitress and she took the cup with no apology or acknowledgement. She had a poor attitude while walking away saying "oh well ill just get you another one". This was my second time going here and the service was poor the first time as well. I thought i would give them another shot. Best place in town. I live here and I've dined at Saigon at least 50 times. Food is always great and service is excellent. Try the vermicelli bowl with barbeque pork and shrimp or the house special combination fried rice. Saigon Cafe is locally owned and operated by some excellent, friendly people. I am from San Antonio, Texas and I love Pho. They have quite a few places here so when I went to visit SC I was looking for a good place to eat and passed this one by a few times. I finally went to eat there and still my boyfriend was a little iffy about going, but he doesn't know food like I do ;)I dragged him in and by the end of the meal that he inhaled before I could get half my meal done, he was saying "oh my gosh this is sooo good" I got the noodles with grilled pork and shrimp, I forget the name because it is different from the names here but it was really good here they call it "Bun Pho" it comes with meat, shrimp, and the spring rolls. We got two large spring rolls as an appetizer for $2.50. The service was good even though it was slow, they were very kind and did a good job asking if we wanted a refill, although I usually say no till I am completely out cause I hate to waste. The food here is very average, and service is often slow. Given the lack of Vietnamese options in the area it gets the bump. Pho is good, not great. The meat amount is a little scanty, especially for the price - and you cannot find anything other than rare beef and meatballs. The to-go portions of all the food is quite a bit smaller than what you are served when you sit down. The beef and meatball pho comes with a single meatball cut into four pieces. Summer rolls are solid, and fried spring rolls are so-so. The broken rice is just white rice with meat, and the bowls (bun) are ok. In general, I have found the stir fry to be a bit lacking. If you are comparing this to Vietnamese options everywhere, this place would deserve a 2. It's not very authentic, and much of the menu is made for a generic palate. In the area, if you need a fix, it's as good an option as any. Prices are a little high by Pho standards, but ok for the area. read more

We were down in the Hilton Head area on vacation and stopped by the Saigon Café for dinner... It was absolutely delicious! We had egg rolls for an appetizer and they were tasty, served with a sweet dipping sauce. Our main courses consisted of Chicken with broccoli (the BEST I ever had), Crispy Spicy Chicken (delicious!), and chicken pho (tasty and a big portion even for a medium). Everything was delicious. The service was good and very friendly. The food took slightly long because they were really busy but the food was well worth the wait!! We were so happy to stop by and if we are ever in the area again we will be back! read more

I love the pho broth here, but everything else is disappointing. The broken rice is the regular rice- not broken rice. The noodle for My Tho noodle is not right, it's not supposed to be regular rice noodle. The portion of everything is so small and the prices are so expensive. You can get much more food, better food with cheaper prices at a lot of other places. read more

I've been meaning to write a review for this place for the past couple years... Sorry, owner (and his father)! I thought for sure that this place would be easily rockin' five stars and am truly surprised by the harsh reviews. When my friend and I took a vacation in South Carolina/Hilton Head Island a couple of years ago, we discovered this place because we desperately needed a reprieve from the delicious but heart-palpitation-causing, rich and salty southern cuisine. We're both from the SF Bay area where there are Vietnamese pho joints practically everywhere (kind of like Starbucks). But it's been one long time since I had had FRESH spring rolls served to me at a NON-upscale pho place. If I did happen to get a freshly wrapped spring roll, the shrimp, pork or veggies were dry, browning or questionable. We couldn't believe our eyes and mouths, their fresh spring rolls were THAT awesome. It was as if they had an organic garden in the back and had just trimmed the veggies, just caught and cooked the shrimp and pork before newly wrapping them seconds before serving. Do you know how rare this is these days?? Almost every fast pho joint these days, seem to pre-make their rolls so they come out smelling a little like stagnated kitchen air (the only benefit to stale spring rolls was that it finally got me to make them at home)! And their pho - not a single drop of oil floated around. NOT ONE. Believe me, we both thoroughly investigated due to our amazement. It was such a clean tasting fresh, NON-MSG broth. We visited again a couple days later when our vacation came to a sad end. Same quality food; same happy tummies. If I lived around there, I'd probably be eating there frequently. read more

Since I'm a vegetarian, I'm always grateful for a place that makes tasty veggie dishes. I had no expectations about Vietnamese food, just wanted something I liked, that wasn't made of mushrooms, peppers, cheese and pasta - and that was affordable and had decent wine. Went for lunch. Both times I've been pleased with the food - first time had yummy veggies and tasy rice. This last time I had a rice-based veggie pancake that was really excellent for less than $6 and a $3 glass of wine that was decent and filled to the brim. Language is a problem for a couple of the folks there, but they are trying and learning and seem to enjoy serving. it's even more of a bargain when you use coupons from the local papers. read more

Tonight I ordered the vegetarian pho, no tofu, and when I asked for extra broth to go because I still had some leftover veggies, they charged me $2! Even though I skipped the tofu and the broth is basically hot water. I was a regular, but I will not be back because I'm fed up with the service. read more

Over this place. At first thought it was great. The service is terrible. Only one waitress running all over the place. She takes orders from tables that walked in well after we did and then you have to wait forever for the check because she is either in the kitchen or taking a take out order. Food is just like a Chinese restaurant for the most part. They removed a bunch of house special soups from the menu with no explanation other than "we are trying to keep you on your toes". $40 for lunch for two and I am still hungry.
