I was referred to SAGE via my primary vet to get my old girl an abdominal ultrasound. Upon reading the reviews, I was a bit apprehensive going in. The check in was all of 30 seconds and that threw me off, however that was likely just due to the anxiety from not only the reviews but also of not knowing what the ultrasound would turn up. However, upon pickup, the front desk worker was lovely and very communicative. Then, Dr. Mafilios came out and spoke to me about the findings. She was very kind and thorough in her explanation. She did offer to perform a cell sample to look into my dog's spleen, which I couldn't afford, but she did not try to upsell or guilt me into spending hundreds more dollars like the reviews implied she might've. I asked about other alternatives and she happily offered some that my primary vet could do for cheaper. The tech who brought my girl back up to me was also very friendly and clearly loved dogs. All that being said, I had a great experience at SAGE, and while some others haven't, I hope that my review will ease some anxieties. read more

Awful customer service and communication. My cat was scheduled to receive an ultrasound at this facility, which required fasting him and administering gabapentin twice--administering the medication is particularly difficult and stressful with my cat. I received an automated text reminder about an hour and a half before the appointment, which I confirmed and stated that my cat had been fasting and had received his medication. Less than an hour and a half before the appointment, I received a call informing me that they did not have the staff available to perform the ultrasound. I was told that this staffing issue was related to winter weather. However, this was a winter weather event that had been forecasted well in advance, and I was also told by another staff member that this staffing scenario had been contemplated over the weekend. If that was the case, I should have been notified earlier so the appointment could have been rescheduled appropriately. Instead, my cat was unnecessarily sedated with medication I paid for (and will now need to pay for again) and forced to fast for no reason. I later spoke directly with the individual who described himself as the "decision-maker." He was rude and unapologetic, stated that he "can't control the weather," and refused to offer any accommodation or discount despite the avoidable circumstances. This situation reflects a serious lack of communication and consideration for both pets and their owners. Pet owners deserve better communication and accountability, especially when procedures require sedation and fasting. read more

Brought my precious baby, Elsa, here for a c-t two weeks ago. The technicians and staff were great, but Elsa was not well after her procedures, and they recommended taking her to Central Texas Emergency in Round Rock, rather than take her home. She seemed to be coming around and against my better judgment I took her there. Biggest mistake of my life. Not more than a minute after taking Elsa back the vet said she had stopped breathing, and after a half-hearted attempt at CPR said she was gone. I guarantee had I gone straight home that night and by-passed that house of horrors, Elsa would still be alive. To be clear, Elsa was not well and I would probably have had to put her down, but it would have been on my terms, and she would have been with me, instead of dying at the hands of a compassionless ghoul. Sage if you read this, do NOT recommend that Bates Motel of a vet hospital to anyone else. I will never forget the creep vibe I got when I walked into that place, and I will regret for the rest of my life following your recommendation. read more

Had an ultrasound performed on our dog. Nothing of substance was reported. That's when the sales job started. Dr. Sage suggested other expensive tests and wanted to conduct a stool test that day for $300 to test for a very convoluted condition. Changed to a new vet who never heard of the condition and if they ran that stool sample it would be $150. I felt like I was dealing with a used car salesperson. New vet made some simple recommendations and our dog's issues were resolved almost immediately. read more

Disorganized, sloppy, unprofessional. Front desk staff told me to "park in front of the building with your dog". Then they said "no, park in the back of the building". I waited 10 minutes outside in the back. Nobody came out. Then I called front desk again and was told "you're gonna have to wait, we're waiting for a bunch of staff to get back from lunch". I said, but this is a scheduled appointment, and she said "we're working on it". Working on what? Then I got another call..."drive to the front of the building in front of the gray door", which no one was there. Never been to a clinic so disorganized. I was sent to Sage by the ER vet, who provided me with fluids for Sage to administer to him while in their care. They said they could not use those fluids for liability reasons because they came from outside their facility. Ok, seems ridiculous, but I assume they will give him their own fluids, since they received his records from the ER and they obviously know he needs them. They also knew he had not eaten since the day before, because he had to be fasting for the ultrasound. They had him from approximately 9a until 5p, and I found out later that they never gave him food or fluids. With his electrolytes and everything else being so out of whack, the lack of fluids and nutrition exacerbated his condition to the point where he could not recover even after he received fluids later that evening. My poor precious baby suffered immensely for the next 36 hours while I tried everything to help him and finally had to make the devastating decision to let him go. I know he would not have survived his condition, but I firmly believe he would not have deteriorated so quickly or suffered so horrendously if they had given him the fluids he needed. I understand cuts can happen when shaving, but I am disappointed on the amount of cuts and the blood on my pup's fur when I picked him up. The biggest issue is the doctor. I am sure some of the doctors are fine in this facility, but the doctor who was communicating to us about my dog's ultrasound report was either predatory on people who care about their pets or just not good at her job. After the ultrasound the Dr who called told us they saw an abnormal blood vessel, which could be a shunt, and they recommended a CT scan. Because of the severity of this claim we went ahead with the CT scan. After the CT scan they called saying everything looked fine and the abnormal vessel was just a twisted vein. All of this was great until the following day. Two Drs called us and told us there was some confusion and the ultrasound actually showed no issues, and the reason for the CT scan was to check for other issues. This is very different than "we see something wrong"! We might have held off and not done the CT scan and talk to our primary vet about next steps if this was the case. Because putting my dog into sleep when his liver enzymes(that's the reason we went in for the ultrasound) are high was the last thing I wanted to do and my primary vet also was also recommending against doing it. Honestly, the whole thing felt predatory and like they were using my love for my pet against me and it really is them misleading me to get more scans than might have been necessary. Update: By the time I am going to post this review, I have not received the reports of ultrasound and CT scan that were promised 24h ago and the scans were done 48 hours ago. We were referred to this facility for an ultrasound, but they didn't even tell our primary vet we also did a CT scan, not sure why they chose to not bring it up when they "highly recommended" us to go ahead with it. I really think this is a dishonest, predatory place, that is run by people who advocate for money, not pets. read more

If you have imaging needs for your pet, it's worth a drive to Round Rock to visit Sage Veterinary Imaging. From my first phone contact I felt like a valued customer. Everything was clearly explained to me the day before my cat's procedure. It allowed me to drop her off with full understanding of what would happen. Due to COVID restrictions I was unable to speak with Dr. Sage face to face, but she called me when the procedure was over and told me the results in a way a cat mom could understand. She also had already discussed the results with my primary vet, so I don't have any responsibility to convey any information. My cat was brought out to me and was very calm. They ensured the procedure was done in a low stress manner, providing her breaks. I hope I don't need these services again, but if so, this is where I will return. read more

Dr. Gainsburg was incredible with our dog who suffered either a Fibrocartilaginous Embolus/Emboli (FCE) or slipped disk. Our pup unexpectedly and very abruptly lost use of his back legs and was moving them very strangely. Dr Gainsburg was very clear and concise in explaining what was going on. He was unbelievably patient with all of our questions and made it a point to make us feel comfortable and ensure we had a good grasp of everything he was saying. He explained all of our options and was not pushy about having us take on expensive treatments. We found him to be very fairly priced and it was easy to make an appointment with his office. We hope never to have to go through something of this caliber again but would not think twice about going back to Dr. Gainsburg. Would highly highly recommend for anyone in an emergency situation or needing neurological services for their pet. read more

If I could give them negative stars, I would. They killed my 1 year old cat. Annie was significantly skinnier than her littermate, despite eating well, and a fair amount less energetic than her littermate. I suspected she had FIP and so did our regular vet (it's a deadly illness in young cats, but prior to this post a medication was introduced with a rate of ~85% effectiveness). We went to SAGE for imaging to double check our vet's suspicions. Admin was brusque to the point of being rude and also just uninformative. They all had an attitude like "what do you mean you're not here once a week and don't know how it works??" After we picked up Annie that afternoon, the imaging specialist at SAGE was *convinced* she saw a mass on our cat's intestines and very strongly suspected lymphoma. Her follow-up potential diagnosis was a systemic fungal infection and she made it sound like an unlikely second. We asked her if she suspected FIP and she dismissed it, saying it was "very low on her list." So we progressed under the assumption that our cat had cancer. We were waiting on a follow-up diagnostic appointment with a different vet when our young cat took a massive turn for the worse. Her lethargy had increased greatly. She had lost even more weight and also put on the tell-tale potbelly of a "wet" FIP patient. Our main vet wasn't sure how to handle the situation, given the obvious symptoms of FIP juxtaposed with the diagnosis of an intestinal tumor from SAGE. This misdiagnosis from SAGE and the confusion that ensued critically delayed Annie's care. Given the overwhelming symptoms of FIP, our regular vet eventually ordered the new FIP drugs. While waiting for them to be delivered, our kitty became even more ill and we had to hand her over to Pet Specialists (vet ER) b/c she could no longer get up or take herself to the bathroom. Pet Specialists took an ultrasound and saw no tumors on the intestines. They didn't believe it, given the confident diagnosis from SAGE, so they took TWO MORE ultrasounds and saw *ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.* Pet Specialists tried to reach out to SAGE for whatever images SAGE had from their past ultrasounds. SAGE declined to respond. I tried reaching out and they couldn't be bothered taking my calls. I tried emailing and SAGE again could not be bothered reaching out. Our cat died of FIP about 36 hours after being admitted to Pet Specialists. Not only did SAGE kill my 1 year and 5 month old cat, but they were rude and unhelpful the entire way. I would lay down on 35 in rush hour before I ever stepped foot in that building again. I don't know if SAGE realized they f*d up and was screening our calls. Or maybe they're just that massively unhelpful that they couldn't answer our follow-ups. Regardless, Annie is dead and they are largely at fault. If SAGE dares to try and take this review down, they'll have lawyers to answer to. read more

I am so grateful to Dr. Gainsburg and his whole team at SAGE Imaging. Our mini goldendoodle stopped walking from one day to the next, without anything happening to him (no falls or accidents). It was a very scary situation that warranted a trip to emergency care on a Sunday. After an X-ray revealing no breaks he had to have surgery for a herniated disc that had hemorrhaged. We moved to Austin 2 months ago from up north. We had an emergency with our dog and came to Sage because they could get us in the soonest for an MRI. This is one of the WORST veterinary places I have ever been to and I truly hope that my review saves others from going through what we did. Not only is the staff insensitive and rude, but Dr. Jaime Sage who owns this place is a pompous, heartless woman who only cares about the money. My children were crying after we left here because of the way Dr. Sage talked to us. I don't think I ever met a colder human-being. My husband who is a Pediatrician deals with massive amounts of stress everyday and would never treat a patient or their family the way she did. My Cody cat stopped eating and his x rays showed a possible intestinal obstruction. I was grateful and amazed to get a same day ultrasound appointment with immediate feedback from a board certified radiologist! Cody grew up on the streets and can be fearful and feisty, but Dr Sage and her team were able to examine him without sedation. Thankfully the ultrasound did not show any foreign objects. It was a holiday weekend and I had a very sick dog that needed an ultrasound. After a visit with our vet, was referred to the emergency vet. They were so busy that I was told that it would be a 6 hour wait and was informed that we couldn't have an ultrasound until the following morning. I asked the front desk where I could get an ultrasound immediately they referred us to Sage. It was 11:30am and they closed at 12pm, but stayed open late to see my dog. Thankfully tests indicated that it was not a situation that would need surgery. Had they not taken him we would be waiting a full 24 hours in a lot of stress for answers. I would have also had to leave him there for the night which would have been difficult and expensive. I'm so incredibly thankful to Sage Vet Imaging! They are the absolute best!! read more

I was extremely impressed with all elements of my experience. I put in an online request after hours and had a call to schedule the next morning. They got me in the same day. All the details were clearly provided up front. Due to COVID-19 I had to wait in the car. The technician who came out was properly wearing her mask and was professional. I wasn't expecting the results of my cat's ultrasound right away but I heard as soon as it was over what the vet/radiologist found. They had contactless payment in my car and were very kind when they returned my kitty (results were that she has cancer). Everyone I interacted with at Sage Veterinary Imaging possesses this caring attribute and made the experience so much less stressful for me. Brittany and Nicole gave our boy, Andy, the TLC treatment from start to finish. And Dr. Sage was so easy to talk to and answered all my questions after giving me the best diagnosis I could hope for. On other occasions over the years we've used mobile imaging providers through our vet. This time, due to the current pandemic, those appointments were 2-3 weeks in the future and he suggested Sage Veterinary Imaging. I'm so glad he did.
