Sage is my go to deli when I'm in Mamaroneck. I like their wedges. And I like the York peppermint patty they add to the bag. I tend to order the Veggie Weggie. It's a wedge with cheese (I order provolone), artichokes, roasted peppers and lettuce, tomato & onion. I'm not a vegetarian, but I really like this sandwich. Beyond that, I mostly get meatball wedges or turkey. Someday I need to ask if they can make a Balboa. read more

Yesterday (12/08/22), I was on my way home from work and hubby called me up to ask me to bring home something for him to eat. I should have just gone to the place in our area that we know but I happened to see this deli when I was stopped at the light out front Theres 15 minute parking our front so I quickly found a spot and went in. They look led pretty clean. The salads in the case did not look that fresh but I don't ever get stuff like that unless I know there's a good turnaround. The guy who took my odder was nice. Initially, I ordered a hot Italian for my son. I saw it on one of the pic from the deli's Yelp page. I should have paid attention to when the picture was posted. The guy said that he could toast the bread but would have to microwave the cold cuts. That was a hard pass and that should have been my first inkling to get out of there. I just told him no to the microwave but yes, toast the hero bread. I also asked for him to put out chipotle mayo on the sandwich. Hubby's sandwich was simple: honey turkey, American cheese, lettuce, tomato and regular mayo on a hero. Not hot. I came straight home and both of my guys ate their sandos. I wasn't feeling a sandwich so I did not order anything. Thank goodness. Fast-forward to last night. Hubby was sick all night until the following day (today). We think it might have been the mayonnaise or the lettuce, which would make sense because my son was fine. He had not lettuce on his sandwich and had a different mayo. It definitely could not have been anything else that he ate because he did not eat anything else that day that was out of the ordinary. I was not sure about ordering food from this deli and I should have listened to my gut but because I saw a good amount of people come in and I odder food, I figured that they might have improved. I've really become a bit disappointed with Sage in the last year. I'll start off by saying that the owner and employees are very nice and this review should not, in anyway, come off as an attack on them. They are working incredibly hard through the pandemic, I have no doubt about that. I was new to the area and Sage became a go to spot for me. I have ordered breakfast and lunch there on a nearly weekly basis. Typically the service is quick and, as mentioned previously, they're very pleasant. The quality of the food is beginning to become concerning. I first discovered an expired jar of dip a few months back. Understanding that these things happen, I let the employee know and went about my business. I had no intention of mentioning it on Yelp. This morning I ordered a sandwich for lunch. I took it to go, and I really wish I had not. When I opened the sandwich I was a bit underwhelmed, the $12 sandwich looked about as big as a $7 sandwich you'd find at a typical deli which was a bit disappointing. I was shocked to discover how inedible the sandwich itself was. The chicken cutlet was soggy and discolored. I, unfortunately, only discovered this about 3 bites into the sandwich. Not one to complain, I wanted to continue eating it but looking at the sandwich made me nauseous. I gave the other half to a coworker who quickly threw it in the garbage after a bite. I certainly feel that a $12 sandwich on a roll should be made from ingredients that are quality. I'm not expecting gourmet perfection, but that chicken cutlet appeared to be days old. I think ensuring that the food is fresh needs to be their priority. Not sure if I'll be racing back to Sage anytime soon, but I really wish the owner and staff the best. Ripoff. Website says $16/ft for subs by the foot. Ordered a basic 4ft sub for end of season kids baseball get together. Turned out to be $98! Owner said - website is wrong it's $19.50/ft plus $10 deposit for the board the sandwich comes on! Not willing to honor his website posted price. Do yourself a big favor and go to Anthony's - there's a reason why they have 400+ reviews and a 4.7+ rating. I went to sage because it's closer to Harbor Island, but learned my lesson - never again. read more

I am sorry to say, Sage has gone down, way down. Just went in. They were out of some Boar's head cold cuts and what was in the case looked old. They talked me into buying "fresh off the bone" roasted turkey. When I got home, it wasn't fit for the dog. The smell was clearly spoiled. The side dishes in the case also looked old and expensive. The staff, not friendly by any means; the gentleman I think is the owner, looked like he had one hell of a hangover. Although staff here was never friendly, the food was good. Not anymore. If you love rare roast beef you will never ever buy it anywhere else! It is like velvet ( if you get what I mean) so soft and great tasting! I was there yesterday and they had just taken four roasts out of the oven, I wanted to move in!!! All their cold cuts are great! I'll start with the good: their roast beef is perfectly rare & delicious. I will return for that alone, but if craving something different, I'll look elsewhere. I ordered that roast beef on a hero with coleslaw, & I never saw a sandwich so suffocated in slaw. I merely scraped it off & enjoyed the beef, though it was a primitive mess. I also ordered their homemade macaroni salad, which was a total failure - sticky and a tad bitter. My friend ordered the ziti & potato salad, both of which disappointed. The ziti was clumpy with a tasteless tomato sauce, & might have been sitting around too long. I'm convinced their "fresh" mozzarella was old - it looked downright sorry sitting there exposed to dry air all day. Customer relations are awkward, so don't expect a warm welcome. The entire operation seems clumsy & cold. However, I will return for that roast beef with coleslaw on the side. Hopefully they will wake up & try a bit harder. It's a one-hit wonder now, with lots of room for improvement (like a table or two with some chairs!). read more

The best Deli in the area, Sage is famous for it's numbered hero combos. Long lists of great combos for both hot and cold heros line the entire wall behind the counter. They also have a small "family" kitchen that has daily specials. read more

It's a family owned deli and everyone there is very friendly. The food is always fresh and the place is always very clean. They are also great for catering. I've used them on more than one occasion and everyone was extremely satisfied. Everyone I know that goes there has a personal favorite sandwich, mine is a wedge with peppered turkey, pepperoni, pepper jack cheese, lettuce, and Russian dressing. That with a drink and bag of chips and you'll never go anywhere else. Aside from the sandwiches, they always have a great selection of Italian specialty items like meatballs, eggplant parmesan, chicken cutlets, sausage and peppers, etc. Definitely my favorite deli in Westchester. If I could be on a sandwich-only diet, I would do it, and I would get them all from this place. I highly recommend it. read more

It is very rare to find delicatessen that as soon as you walk in they make you feel they will go the extra mile to keep a customer happy. Well this isnt one of them. The combination of sandwiches are of variety, but yet not enough. The staff seems very uninterested and unwelcoming. Just straight business. Awful place. The service is absolutely dreadful- the workers are obnoxious, rude, and generally disgusting. If that weren't bad enough, their food is foul. I recently purchased some "fresh" turkey from them that smelled rancid as well as being completely tasteless. There are many good delis in Mamaroneck, but this is far from being one of them. Do yourself a favor- avoid Sage at all costs, and give your money to some place that doesn't treat paying customers like crap. read more
