My husband wants to try out this Indian restaurant for our belated Valentine's dinner. I didn't realize it was a chain until I started searching online for food pics. We parked in the parking lot a block behind the restaurant. 6pm-8pm were free parking. And with little walk to the restaurant during this winter cold weather. First impression when I arrived, this looks like a mom & pop shop. It seems quite small. So i would suggest maybe making a reservation ahead of time would be ideal. Service was excellent! Food was pretty good. Both my husband and I enjoyed our meal. Although both of us agreed that another Indian restaurant around our house tastes better, but this place ain't too bad. We ordered 2 mango lassi once we arrived. Before my husband placed the food order, he already pretty much kill that drink off. It was just good!! Definitely worth a try. During my trip to Philadelphia and staying at hotels, I decided to order some Indian food via delivery. I went pretty simple with some buttered chicken and some garlic naan. They allowed you a variety of spice levels so I opted for medium not knowing what to expect. This food was delicious. So glad I did a double order of the naan. Saffron is definitely an unexpected gem right on Butler Ave in downtown Ambler. I'm glad that we decided to go in person instead of ordering delivery. We ate right on the street and their presentation was fantastic. We started with two veggie samosas that were really good (so good, in fact, that I forgot to take Yelp pictures of them). I got the Boti Kabob Masala and added veggies. My girlfriend got Chicken Tikka Masala and a Mango Lassi. We split Aloo Naan and got basmati and raita to share with our main dishes. For ~$80 this was more than enough food. My favorite part of the meal was that the dishes were served family style in their own bowls and you could mix your dish however you wanted. Everything seemed very fresh and was delicious. PRO TIP: Sometimes "medium spicy" can be too spicy at an Indian place but the waiter here offered "in between mild and medium spicy" which was just perfect. Definitely try this place. It's different than the American/Italian places nearby. read more

I dined-in at Saffron for the first time last night. First, I would like to say that the food was amazingly delicious. We had the lamb korma, ghobi aloo - a cauliflower and peas dish, and vegetable samosa. We also ordered fresh naan. I am a stickler for freshness, and this restaurant really made the grade. Since everything is prepared to order, we had a choice of spiciness, and we asked for regular spices. The condiment offerings were also excellent - tamarind sauce and a coriander sauce. Service was exceptional, given the current restrictions on dining-in. We were actually the only guests dining-in at the time. However, only a few tables are in use, allowing for ideal social distancing. The waiter was wearing gloves and a mask for our safety. Utensils were carefully wrapped in a cloth napkin, and then in a plastic bag. I observed a lot of people coming in to pick up take-out orders. Everyone was able to pick up and leave with their food in a speedy and timely manner. I'm so glad I finally gave Saffron in Ambler a try. I will definitely return. read more

Second time back, saw a movie at the Ambler Theater and returned to Saffron for dinner. Started off with a plain dosa, was okay. Will need to try the kotti roll next time. Shared the June menu entree special- methi mango chicken, very nice, tender white meat, light mango seasoning taste and also had the goan shrimp curry which is also a nice flavorful dish. We went with what was recommended but next time we will try other stuff. The food was ready so quickly and waiting for me as soon as I walked in to carry out. The food here is delicious, and I have never been disappointed by anything that I ordered from here. The interior is clean and well decorated, generally giving it a nice higher end vibe, like the kind of place you can bring someone to a date on. If you're not familiar with indian cuisine, try their chicken tikka masala, you can't go wrong with it. I personally like their Murg Adraki. The usage of ginger in the dish is interesting and is tasty with either chicken or lamb. All of their breads are excellent and worth trying out. The only reason I'm giving them a 4 star is because the menu prices can be a touch high, but everything else about them is just about perfect. read more

This place is great! I'm usually pretty skeptical about Indian restaurant because I have high hope but Saffron did not disappoint. Its a small place with limited seating (also tables outside) they have sparkling and regular bottled water on each table your choice of what you want or you can pick from their drink menu. Either way you get charged. I ordered chicken madras (waiters recommendation also its off menu) with the spice level of "Indian spicy" which means its the spiciest they can offer. Chicken tikka masala (spicy), garlic and butter naan, vegetable samosa and lastly mango lassi which tamed down the heat. I honestly enjoyed my meal. Coupled together with garlic naan and butter chicken (same as chicken tikka masala, but with dark meat,) this meal is amazing! We placed our order online for pickup as they opened. The food was ready pretty quickly, as it showed as ready for pickup 15 minutes later. Walked into the store for pick up and the food smelled amazing, which is always a good sign. First and only real down fall they had was did not give us utensils. I ordered a Chicken Madras. I took a quick taste of the sauce, which I asked to be made extra spicy and they delivered. A lot of places when you ask for this they don't really add spicy and keep it the same. My sauce had a kick and I did find myself reaching for something to drink half way through eating because of how spicy it was. The Madras sauce it the perfect amount of creamy. They didn't water it down or put too much coconut milk in. I know Basmati rice is less fluffy and moist than Jasmine rice, but the rice I had felt extra dry compared to previous times I have had it. Could be the rice was sitting for a while after being made. But, with the sauce from the chicken it was fine. You get a pint of the food that you order (your chicken, vegetable, etc) and a pint of rice. It also comes with a side salad and an accompaniment of the day. read more

I was traveling and looked up the place on Yelp. My expectations for the Indian food was average but Saffron took even a notch further down. I ordered Madras lunch with shrimp and a naan. Not only the shrimp curry had no southern taste, I would not even called it Indian dish. Basically 5 shrimp in tomato sauce with large chopped pieces of onion. The rice that came with it was dry. As a lunch special it came with the salad which was a few lettuce leaves with some vinaigrette sauce. The daal (chola and rajma) had no flavor and had sweet after taste. I have been searching for Indian Cuisine in these parts that actually delivers on heat and Saffron does just that! Our waiter was kind enough to inquire about how spicy we wanted our lamb vindaloo, based on a scale of 1-10. We totally went for it with a 10 and were overjoyed by how spicy it was! We also ordered saag paneer (at a 7) and garlic naan, both of which were the perfect balance to that fiery lamb dish. We were the only ones there on a Wednesday night, but I'm hoping the take-out orders were compensating for the empty dining room. BYOb was of course, a plus. I've only had Indian food once before last night, but I really wanted to try it again and we'd only heard good things about Saffron. All of the good things were true! The wait staff was incredibly friendly and helpful when recommending a drink or a spice level for our food. We started with the Vegetable Samosas and they were delicious. The flavor was fantastic so I didn't even bother with the sauces they came with (maybe I will next time). For dinner, my husband ordered the Paneer Tikka Masala (sweet with a little bit of a kick) and I ordered the Saag Paneer -- holy moly, I couldn't get over the flavor with this dish! We also ordered Rogini Naan and I couldn't stop scooping up it all up with the naan. The portions are generous as well so I was thrilled to have leftovers for lunch today. :) I honestly can't say anything bad about this restaurant and I can't wait to come back and try something new in the future. I always chose el lemon over saffron cause I am a big fan of Mexican food but I decided to finally give this place a try. I don't know if it was just the particular day or if it's how they are every day, the people serving look kinda miserable. they kinda brought down the mood a little bit... anyways, I ordered the mango lassi first. I tried the drink at different places and didn't like it but this place, they make it mighty good. very creamy and moderately sweet. I then got the chicken tikka masala (i know... classic) and my friend got the honey chicken so I got try some. both were very very good; the chicken was very tender and the sauce was delicious. looks can be very deceiving... when the food came out, it looked like it wasn't that much but half way in, I got really full. they give you all you can eat rice so don't be afraid to ask. the only thing is that the price is around 15-20 per person but considering the amount of food they dump on you, I guess it's worth... (?) there are other places in ambler that I would personally go to but, if you're a fan of Indian food and is in the area, I would go here. read more

We go here fairly often. The food is always good and the service is great, even when they're really busy. I have had several dishes and have liked them all - chicken tikka masala, malai kofta, saag paneer, chicken korma, tandoori chicken, vindaloo....everything I have tried has been good. I always get plain naan and my husband gets a stuffed bread. The condiments (tamarind sauce & green chutney) are great too. We also have raita. It's especially good with spicier dishes. read more
