Just okay food and okay service; overpriced dishes and limited choices in the food menu.

We are still blown away by the amazing food quality and the lovely server who always genuinely treats us like we are family members, after having only met us twice! Even though it has been over 1 month since our first trip to New Era (I live in Manhattan and my partner resides in Phila), our server remembered everything we had told her about our food preferences and other friendly details shared with her. Our typical order is the Aloo Gobi, Chicken Chettinad, and naan. The food is always generously served piping hot, the chicken is fresh and tender, and the very flavorful curries are not watered down. The naan could not have been fresher; we immediately requested a 2nd order of naan after taking one bite of the pillowy goodness. It was as soft as a cloud. The kheer was sweet and creamy - simply expertly made just like the curries and naan. The chef here is absoutely incredible. He may have been the very kind gentleman that waved to us on our way out. Anyway, New Era Plymouth Meeting is one of Philly's best kept secret and now our top choice for Indian cuisine. We nearly walked into the place for a 2nd day in a row last night bc we were craving the curries again and all the genuine kindness. Don't let the modest appearance of New Era, Plymouth Meeting fool you. There is magic going on inside in terms of the food and service. Also, the interior is so clean and comfortable. Even the lighting is calming. We feel like we are being served in our kitchen by close friends. After regularly dining in various top Indian restuarants in Manhattan, the District and throughout the U.S. for over 20 years, I still wouldn't even hesitate to say that New Era has some of the best food, not to mention the friendliest and hardworking server and a fabulous menu! We can't wait to return!

There's plenty of seating if you want to dine in, but I opted for takeout this time. I placed my order and had my food in less than 10 minutes. I got the paneer biryanis, samosas, and garlic naan. Food was delicious. I'm already looking forward to coming back to try more of their menu, especially the kebabs. I highly recommend!

It's the real deal with full flavor and authentic Desai taste to fulfill that craving of goat verified or chicken sukka. Maybe a delicious biryani or tawa fish fry. We had the gongura chicken and chicken tikka masala. If you're American and used to order chicken tikka masala please note the medium spice level may be a touch spicy and it comes with bell peppers and onions. I thought it tasted fantastic. Gongura chicken had the tamarind tang with a gongura curry gravy that felt like I'm eating in south India. Naan and roti were piping hot and thin. Great to soak up all that curry. Also tried the chili gobi that had plenty of chili sauce to put on some naan. Can't wait to go back and try some other fun dishes. Lunch time thali looked good as well.

We hosted our daughter's baptism lunch at this restaurant and unfortunately had a very…read moredisappointing experience. We contracted and paid for a buffet for 100 people, but only about 75 guests actually attended, and there was still not enough food for everyone. Throughout the event, multiple dishes repeatedly ran out while guests were in line. When items were refilled, they were often brought out in very small quantities (around 10 pieces at a time), so food would immediately run out again. Our family had to repeatedly ask staff to refill basic items like rice and naan, and eventually we were told that they were done cooking, even though we were still within the contracted buffet service time and many of our guests had not eaten. Several family members ended up leaving without getting food, which was embarrassing as the hosts. To make matters worse, staff began cleaning up the room before our contracted end time. Chairs were being stacked and the vacuum was running while our guests were still there. When we asked if they could stop since we still had the room reserved, we were told they do this "to make their lives easier," which was very unprofessional. We also ordered a custom cake through the restaurant. The cake looked nothing like the design we requested, and it was clearly not large enough to serve the 100 people it was ordered for. We tried to work with management to resolve the situation, but the manager was not on site during the event, and communication afterward required multiple follow-ups on our end about the issues and discrepancies in service. This was a very special day for our family celebrating our daughter, and it was extremely disappointing that such basic expectations for a contracted event adequate food, proper service during the reserved time, and attention to the details we paid for were not met.
