This place's lunch buffet was recommended to us, so we tried it out for the first time today. I guess it depends on what you look for in an Indian buffet.....for me, this wasn't it, but I can see why it may be for some. Let me break it down for you. If you are like me and what makes an Indian buffet is super fresh nann and yummy sauces to dip the nann in, then, well, go to Taj. I don't need a lot of variety or a lot of different proteins, I just need a few quality, fresh, yummy hot dishes and always hot and fresh nanns. Taj fits the bill. Saffron....not so much. You know they say first impression is the lasting impression? Well, it's true. We walked into the restaurant at 11:49am on a Friday. Hit the buffet immediately and the first thing we saw was a tray meant for nann. There were 6 pieces of nann in it. They looked flat, old, and cold. So I skipped over it temporarily, hoping it would be refilled. Got a little bit of about 9 different dishes to try and then circle back to the same sad 6 pieces of nann. So I got a couple as....well, a girl has got to have some nann. Maybe they will taste better than they look. So I sat down with my variety plate to try. Most items were cool to cold. Nann tasted as bad as it looked. I ended up with about 3 dishes out of the 9 that I thought were decent. Then fresh nann finally came out, so that was pretty good to go with the 3 decent dishes. Moving on to dessert. They have this mango ice cream that looked good, so I got some to try. It was like yogurt texture and cool but not icy. Later I saw a new pan and it was actually frozen, that's when I realized what I got wasn't how it was supposed to be, it was just that it has been there so long that it all melted. Lack of quality control was evident based on the cool/cold dishes and melted ice cream. I was not impressed overall and neither was my SO. So, under what situations would I go back to Saffron? Well, personally, under no situations. I don't want to have to keep an eye out for nanns, hoping some fresh ones will come out while I am having my meal. I also like all of my hot food to actually be hot and I found Taj to do a much better job in this area. However, if you don't care about fresh nann and you don't mind your food being on the cool/cold side, Saffron definitely does have more variety and is on par in terms of quality compared to most buffets. The restaurant itself is open and bright during the day. The employees are very nice and quick to clear dirty plates off of tables. No issues at all there!

Lunch date. I love the renovations and the new color! Very clean. When you walk in you're greeted with a beautiful aroma of spices. Staff is friendly and very helpful. Lunch is buffet style-food very flavorful. Loved the naan. I tried every dish on buffet. The only dish that disappointed was the goat curry- there wasn't enough meat. Affordable- 18.99 pp. Free parking and large lot. Will definitely visit again!

Run, do not walk, to try Saffron. This is absolutely the best Indian food I have ever had in my entire life. A gorgeous restaurant in a very convenient location made for a delicious evening with my 18-year-old daughter. We started with the Samosa Chat and the Fish & Chips. The Samosa Chat was so fresh and rich and flavorful. It was stunning! Depot savory with super fresh bits of cilantro and onion. So utterly delicious. The Fish & Chips was entirely unexpected! Little morsels of fish crisply fried in a sweet and spicy Indian scented batter were utterly delectable. The chips (French fries) were so crispy and light. My daughter who hates fish ate half the bowl and RAVED about how good it was. The real star of the show was the Saffron Tikki Masala (they call it their signature dish). We ordered chicken as our protein, and I have to say: even if you're not a fan of Indian food this is the dish that will convert you. Super moist and tender chunks of chicken were swimming in a creamy, delicate sauce warm with Indian spices. We ordered butter naan to soak up all the luscious sauce. We ordered way too much food for two people, but I sent the leftovers home with my daughter. She told me she finished them off before going to bed that night. It was that good! We will be back!

Food was great. Came out so hot and fresh and insanly flavorful. The manager was our waiter and he was very attentive and helped us order and explained the menu.

    Buffet

Always a great experience! Very friendly and attentive staff. We come mainly for the Saturday buffet and it is always good with 4 large buffet tables. Variety is great. Our favorites are Saag Paneer, Bean Poriyal, Butter Chicken and Gobi Manchurian. Seriously, check out this place! The atmosphere is calming, music but not too loud, VERY clean!!

My friend and I went to dinner and chose Saffron, an Indian restaurant that we heard good things about. When walking in the atmosphere and decorations were very elegant and beautiful. My friend chose the buttered chicken and I chose the goat korma curry. The food was brought out in really nice serving dishes. Both dishes were really flavorful and delicious. I would have left a 5 star but the staff could have been more attentive. It took a long time for our check to come and when walking in there isn't a hostess stand so it was a little confusing as to whether we should sit ourselves or not. These are all very small complaints because I would be happy to come back again.

The paneer makhani was watery tonight. It's our favorite dish so this was disappointing.

It was INCREDIBLE! It's a fermented rice batter pancake (almost a crispy crepe texture) surrounding a potato filling with an array of sauces on the side. All of the dipping sauces were incredible. Absolute must try. I believe it can be hard to find traditional southern Indian cuisine, but I'll be back. We ordered some tandoori chicken, which was so moist and delicious. I had an order of the dal sag, which was great, too. We left with plenty of food to take home for leftovers. We also had the onion stuffed kafta, which was indulgent and delicious. The staff was so kind to even treat us to a gulab jamun at the end. My favorite :). I'll be back here again for sure. Absolutely worth the trip out to Hoover.

The sauce was luscious and velvety, even if it showed up tonight with a mild personality. I kept waiting for the heat to clock in for its shift, but apparently it had PTO approved. Still delicious though. The vegetable samosas were crispy on the outside with that delicate, comforting filling inside. No notes. Just solid. And the garlic naan? Dangerous. I told myself "just one more bite" at least seven times. It's garlicky, soft, and basically a carb trap I willingly fall into every visit. Now... the service. Let's just say if attentiveness were a spice, it was left in the kitchen. Our waitress vanished for extended periods like she was filming a documentary about the back of the restaurant. No check-in, no "how is everything," no interest in whether we were thrilled or quietly combusting. It felt less like dining and more like self-guided Indian cuisine. Food: still outstanding. Service: spiritually elsewhere. Four stars because the kitchen deserves it. The front of house might need a little masala of its own.

It was very nicely decorated, and there were plenty of patrons on a Wednesday night. We ordered the Karaikudi chicken and Tandoori chicken. While we frequent Indian restaurants, we have never ordered either dish before. The meals were delivered quickly, but no utensils were provided. Our server was standing with her back turned to the dining room, playing with her phone. I had to get up and go over to get her attention to get napkins and utensils. The Karaikudi chicken was mild but good. The tandori was very undercooked, with the meat still being red/bloody next to the bones. I tried to get our server's attention, but she was still playing with her phone. No one came to the table to check on us until after the meal was done. Service was not good and the bone in chicken was not cooked properly, so I don't see us coming back.

Tons of food, and we got to take home leftovers. To my fellow low-spice-tolerant white folk, don't let the yogurt sauce go to waste. It helps calm the spice a tad. -Parotta I stand by a good piece of naan bread, but this may be my new favorite! It's a flaky, buttery bread that is super tasty! Overall, the food was top-notch. Unfortunately, the service was lacking. I always want to give the benefit of the doubt, maybe they were understaffed. However, one of the dishes we ordered didn't come out until 20 minutes after the first dish. I'd prefer if all the food came out within the same time frame. It took us a long time to get more water, and we had to walk up to the counter to ask for a new pitcher for the table. I'd be happy to give it another try, though!

Their Uber Eats page is well-formatted, with all menu items listed, accompanied by descriptions and pictures of most items. My only issue with their menu on the app is that the descriptions were not very clear about whether an item came with rice or if it had to be ordered on the side. My order arrived quickly and came in a large brown paper bag. I chose the butter chicken, and it came with basmati rice. They were packaged separately, with the chicken and sauce in a large plastic container and the white rice in a small styrofoam box. I like that they separated the two to let the customer have control over the chicken-to-rice ratio. Plastic cutlery was provided as well. My food was still hot when it arrived and was full of flavor. It tasted like a very good homemade meal instead of something made with low-quality ingredients and little effort put into it. The sauce on the chicken was very creamy and absolutely delicious! The serving size left me plenty of leftovers, and I was very satisfied.

The staff is friendly and the food usually comes out very quickly, whether I'm dining in or picking it up. My go to order is the chicken korma with butter naan, and it is honestly one of my favorite meals. The chicken korma is creamy, flavorful, and pairs perfectly with the naan. They also give a very generous portion of rice, which I always appreciate because it makes the meal even more filling! The only small downside is that parking can sometimes be difficult, but I usually end up finding street parking nearby. I recommend this spot for a warm, comfort meal!
