Masakali Chicken Biryani
Emily C.

We went to a new Indian restaurant tonight and tried some different menu items. What we ordered: -Kottu Parotta chicken This dish has pieces of parotta bread mixed with chicken, onion, and spices. I'd never had it before, but it was so good! I'd definitely order it again. -Masakali chicken biryani We got medium spice, but PHEW, this dish was spicy. Regardless, it was delicious. Tons of food, and we got to take home leftovers. To my fellow low-spice-tolerant white folk, don't let the yogurt sauce go to waste. It helps calm the spice a tad. -Parotta I stand by a good piece of naan bread, but this may be my new favorite! It's a flaky, buttery bread that is super tasty! Overall, the food was top-notch. Unfortunately, the service was lacking. I always want to give the benefit of the doubt, maybe they were understaffed. However, one of the dishes we ordered didn't come out until 20 minutes after the first dish. I'd prefer if all the food came out within the same time frame. It took us a long time to get more water, and we had to walk up to the counter to ask for a new pitcher for the table. I'd be happy to give it another try, though!

I have been twice and have been very pleased. I think it's fair to say that a restaurant may be legit when you step into an ethnic restaurant and there are patrons of that ethnicity. On both occasions that I have eaten here the vast majority of customers are of Indian decent. A good sign to me, and I'm glad that there such is large Indian community in Birmingham. The menu is quite large and overwhelming with dishes that we are not familiar with. Our waitress was patient and helpful answering questions. Although her English was a little difficult to understanding. Nonetheless she described the dishes with great detail. I would also add that service is a little slow. Some of our favorite dishes are: Shrimp 65, Curry Leaf Chicken, Chicken Tikka Masala, and the Garlic Naan. I would also warn you that spicy here is REALLY SPICY.

Food 5/5 Service 3/5 Ambiance 5/5 Food was really good! But no ice for water Really small pitchers of room temp water with small cups Not sure why Indian places don't put any importance on cold drinks. No fountain drink, big cups or ice. This is Alabama and most people need constant refills and those options. Just invest in it please. Food came out one by one Corn soup and dosa were phenomenal everything else was good and standard Our server disappeared and we are never clear who our designated server really was Checks are paid electronically Tips for groups 6 or larger gratuity is included The child we had with us wasn't offered a high chair. The mom had to carry her the entire time Place was decorated super cute with flowers and a British phone booth I'll be back for the food but please consider doing something about drinks. 6 of us had to share one pint of lukewarm water and asked for more but we didn't get any until the end I wasn't given a menu either

A new Indian restaurant in Hoover located in the same shopping center as Guitar Center. The deceiving exterior reveals a large opens dining room with a small bar and two mounted large screen lcd tvs. One already had karaoke indian music. The decorations are unique with a large pink flowered "tree" in the middle that surrounds a telephone booth. The walls are painted with a jungle theme. They do play indian music that can be rather loud but you could easily have a conversation at your table. Our party of three ordered dishes to share. It was a Friday evening and there was only about 8 others there at the time, but it still took about 30 minutes to get our first dish. We ordered 4 dishes and they served them as they were made instead of all together. Drinks are simple. I had a canned Sprite and we had a large pitcher of room temperature water with metal cups. Parotta with chicken curry: The parotta bread is south indian style meaning it's not the northern style where it's stuffed or made with potatoes. The parotta was just cooked, layered, warm, soft yet crunchy... it was so good! Yom Yom Yom Yom! It only came with 2 medium sized parottas which we quickly ate and wish we had more. The chicken curry was also outstanding. Perfect dark orange color, creamy with lots of coconut, served in a small bowl with 3 pieces of chicken. When ordering I requested spice level 5 (out of 10) and that just the right amount for us. Dhaba style chicken curry: Tammy got an order of 3 garlic naan (not included) with this curry. The naan was also freshly made and also delicious! Buttery with just the right amount of crunch... dipping it in the curry was delicious! This chicken curry was not the same as the curry with the parotta. This curry was a little more tart and not as creamy with as much coconut flavor, but it was still good. The dish came with a small bowl of basmati rice. Matthew's Gongura goat biryani arrived next: Our server warned him that it is normally made with a spice level 7 and he said that was ok. Well, it was hot! He had beads of sweat on his forehead! The portion was large served in a large bowl. I found it to be rather salty and also too spicy. It was served with a small bowl of yogurt that you can use to tone down the spice. This was the only dish that I didn't care for. Street style shrimp noodles: The last dish to arrive and my favorite. This indo-asian dish used the skinny small egg noddles wok fried with spices, served with green onions, and chopped up pieces of battered fried shrimp. It was so good! Yom Yom Yom Yom. The spice level was also a 5 and just right. I would gladly order this dish again with another protein. The prices are on the high side but the portions were large such as the biryani and noodles. These were just a few dishes in their 4 page rather extensive menu. They've only been open for 6 months. Welcome to Hoover, Hyderabad. I will return to try more dishes.

Absolutely amazing. Of all biryani restaurants in Birmingham, this is the one we continuously return to. During my stay in Birmingham, we have eaten here almost every night after work. The employees are super friendly, helpful, and accommodating. The food is served very quickly (The chai is also unmatched, the taste is spectacular) The environment is absolutely beautiful with decorations, always clean, always neatly organized. Spectacular place to eat.

Apricot delight

All in all, a good place. Came here for the restaurant week special - got the Madhuri chicken pakoda (fried chicken), Afghani chicken masala + rice, apricot delight (dessert), and some type of apple milkshake. After some confusion regarding the restaurant week deal, the food came out nicely. The portion of chicken pakoda was huge! Crispy and still moist on the inside. Thr Afghani chicken masala was rich and creamy and spicy. I got the Indian spice level on both dishes, and it was exactly what I was looking for. The apricot dessert helped mitigate some of that spice. It was tart and sweet, refrigerated cold for a nice chill effect. The milkshake was also very good. Hard to describe it, but I'd get it again. Creamy and not too sweet - exactly how I like desserts. Great meal, but I wouldn't complain if the service improved. They looked understaffed, and it took a while to order and get what we needed. Water wasn't refilled either. Great decor on the inside, though. Wasn't expecting the bright floral themes based on what I saw on the outside.

I had a very disappointing experience here. I ordered chicken masala and the quality was poor -- the dish was poorly prepared and lacked flavor. What made the experience worse was that I was not given any silverware or napkins. When I asked about it, I was told that "the culture eats with their fingers." That response was unprofessional and uncomfortable. Regardless of cultural practices, customers should be provided with basic dining items or at least given a choice. Because of this experience, I will not be returning and cannot recommend this place to others.

Dining area was 3/4 full on a Sunday afternoon around 2pm. Service was slow and paced but very accommodating and courteous to our large party of 8. The interior is gorgeous with tropical flora wallpaper and beautiful faux flower arrangements throughout. The sleek black plates and gold cutlery added to the luxe decor. We dined on KERALA PAROTTA, BUTTER AND GARLIC NAAN, BUTTER CHICKEN MASALA, GOAT DUM BIRYANI, MASALA DOSA, STREET STYLE PANEER NOODLES, and the REGULAR CHICKEN FRIED RICE. Everything was outstanding and well portioned. Standouts include the PAROTTA - super flaky and warm, GARLIC NAAN - tons of garlic topping, and the DOSA - very crisp, potato masala filling inside is spiced well. MANGO LASSI was served in preportioned bottles. Smart idea! During our time here, we noticed many Indian patrons which is always a good sign. We splurged on dessert - BLACK FOREST CAKE and OREO CAKE. These were not too sweet, but checked the box for satiating our sweet tooth.

Butter Chicken Masala

I have been looking for good Indian food and I was given this recommendation and it did not disappoint. I got the butter chicken, and you could tell it was made from scratch. Also, the garlic naan was incredible. It was so buttery and garlicky and I loved how crispy it was. It was seriously some incredible naan. The flavor was amazing and everyone there was so nice. Seriously such an amazing meal!

Garlic naan. Flattest I've had.

Ordered food to go at 1:33, didn't get food until 2:11 All I ordered was a garlic Naan and chicken corn soup. That's it... foods good but speedy customer service isn't it here. Literally waited 45 mins for two small things that should have already been prepared for the day?! And for the wait all I got was sorry for the wait.... Super authentic real deal Indian food. Inside is super cute but still doesn't make up for the lack of time might or task mngt.

Cannot brag enough about Hyderabad House! Everyone was so kind and helpful explaining dishes. We choose the Butter Masala Chicken and a basket of Naan. Omg! It was heavenly! It will be hard for me to pick a new dish to try the butter masala was so delicious. If you have not stopped by for dinner. it is a must!

My favorite appetizers are the Chicken 65 and the Vegetarian Samosas. The Chicken 65 consists of bite-sized pieces of chicken breast that are fried and then tossed in a spicy sauce. It's served with chopped red onion and a cilantro garnish, making it perfect for sharing at the table. The Vegetarian Samosas are deep-fried pastries filled with green peas, potatoes, and Indian spices, with a noticeable curry flavor. They're served with a brown, tamarind-based dipping sauce that pairs perfectly with the filling. One entrée we love sharing is the dosa. A dosa is a lightly fried crepe, and there are about a dozen variations, each with different fillings and spice combinations. The dosas are served with several sides for dipping or eating with pieces of the crepe. The Tandoori Chicken Tikka Kebab is another favorite. The chicken is marinated, baked in a clay oven, and brought out steaming hot on a sizzling platter. In addition to the dishes mentioned, Bawarchi offers many other classic Indian favorites. One word of warning: if you order spicy, they mean it--the heat level can definitely light you up!

The sauce was luscious and velvety, even if it showed up tonight with a mild personality. I kept waiting for the heat to clock in for its shift, but apparently it had PTO approved. Still delicious though. The vegetable samosas were crispy on the outside with that delicate, comforting filling inside. No notes. Just solid. And the garlic naan? Dangerous. I told myself "just one more bite" at least seven times. It's garlicky, soft, and basically a carb trap I willingly fall into every visit. Now... the service. Let's just say if attentiveness were a spice, it was left in the kitchen. Our waitress vanished for extended periods like she was filming a documentary about the back of the restaurant. No check-in, no "how is everything," no interest in whether we were thrilled or quietly combusting. It felt less like dining and more like self-guided Indian cuisine. Food: still outstanding. Service: spiritually elsewhere. Four stars because the kitchen deserves it. The front of house might need a little masala of its own.
