I wanted to try something new for lunch and I came across Kabob-licious. Ash was so nice and extremely helpful. She went over the dishes with me and explained what was in them and spice level am that they were considered more of a Pakistan restaurants to selling beef items . I settled on the Beef Boti and garlic naan and it was so fresh, flavorful, and definitely had a spicy kick. Ash gave me a sample of their chili which has lentils, beef, oats and other ingredients all blended together to make a hearty dish. Nahari and the lamb chops are on my list to try next time I come. I'm relatively new to subcontinental food. Two chief reasons contribute to this: there's not much to choose from where I'm from and it can be difficult to navigate a discussion successfully with a certain someone whose olfactory sense is, shall we say, acute. So, on a weeklong training out of town, it was open season on all the stuff I can't normally eat. That said, the food: chicken tikka masala and chicken samosas. The samosas didn't make it back to the hotel. Light, crispy, not overly dense. Chicken was spiced well (duh). Contrast of textures met with the flavor was remarkable. Could get 3 orders of these as a main. The tikka masala posed a challenge: I got it to go (the inside was, much to my general amusement, but on the night in question, not really what I was shooting for) as the atmosphere was truly mom and pop: tv up a bit too loud, remnants of coloring books and school paraphernalia strew about a table or two. So, masala to go. Once back at the hotel, the challenge presented itself: how does one eat a soup-sized container of dense sauce with meat chunks in is sans spoon or fork? My solution as to drink it, basically. Now, the nice thing about this approach was that I got a full smell of the spices, a complete envelopment of flavor. Not that the more traditional approach wouldn't have delivered the same, but it gave a more in depth experience of the spices presented. And they were exceptional (especially on a February night). I visited Kebab Licious after they told me their food was Halal. As a Muslim, eating Halal is very important to me. However, I later discovered that they are actually serving non-Halal (Haram) meat while telling customers it is Halal. This is extremely misleading and unacceptable. Honesty and trust are the most important things in food service, especially when people's religious beliefs are involved. Veggie Samosa, 3 huge homemade pockets, fried to perfection, soft and crispy. Incredible flavor and dipping sauce balanced the spices nicely. Tikka Masala can be served with paneer as a vegetarian option! Use naan for dipping! Dal Fry is the best I've. Not only were the flavors incredible but the texture was in tact. Too many Indian restaurants water down the lentils. I was most pleased with the thickness. The spices in the food are just right, not too hot to destroy my taste buds, but just hot enough for my nose to run. I do recommend a lassi. It helps cool the pallet. The husband took my order was very kind and patiently answered all my questions. His wife later spoke to me and was equally kind, told me all about Thumbs Up soda. This is a new Hoover restaurant that serves authentic Pakistani dishes (Babu Bhatt would be pleased). The restaurant opened in the location that was previously Paradise Biryani Pointe. The new owners have done an amazing job on the renovation of the old space. Everything is new and and clean. I love the neutral colors and especially the flannel grey wall color. The format is self-service, casual. You place your order at the counter and are given a card with a number. When your order is ready it is delivered to your table. The food is served on paper plates with plastic silverware. I don't think the disposable dish-ware is temporary. I had lunch with David L and his son Matthew on Wednesday. We started with the Beef and Aloo Samosa appetizers. The Beef Samosa are triangle shaped meat pies that contain a generous portion of seasoned ground beef. The beef had good flavor and a dense consistency. The Aloo Samosas stand up like a pyramid. They are filled with potato that is seasoned with yellow curry spices. We preferred the Aloo, and thought they were delicious. I ordered the Chicken Malai Boti and a side of Garlic Naan. I liked this dish a lot. Chicken thighs are deboned, sliced, and marinated in spices. The.meat is then threaded onto skewers and slow cooked in their Tandoori oven. The meat is then finished on the grill that gives each piece a nice char on the outside. The meat is served with two dipping sauces. One is a tamarind chutney and the second is a mint yogurt. The meat was very tender, and it had a strong, but balanced flavor from the unique Pak spices. I ordered Garlic Naan and it was a large, warm piece of goodness that was perfect complement. Service was excellent. This is a family owned and operated restaurant. We talked with the owner, and her name Ash. She is super friendly and helpful. The most recent Indian/Pakistani/Halal restaurant has landed in Hoover off Hwy 31. Not even a month old, Kabob-Licious Indo-Pak Grill rests in the same location as a previous Indian restaurant. They have gutted the entire place, remodeling with new floors, new paint and in the kitchen a special imported clay oven! There's a large mounted tv playing muted Bollywood videos and several tables scattered throughout. There's a mounted digital menu, a small refrigerator that held canned and bottle drinks with a self serv water dispenser on the ordering counter. You place your order at the counter, receive a number, find a seat and await your order. One of the owners, Ash, happened to be taking our order. She was very knowledgeable about every item on their menu with high praises for her mother-in-law who hand makes all their naan bread. We tried their beef and aloo samosas. The beef samosas were filled with marinated beef and spicy. I preferred their aloo samosas which were filled with mainly potatoes and peas cooked in a mild curry. Yom Yom Yom. Paul got the Chicken Tikka Boti. It was chunks of white meat marinated, grilled and tasted delicious. All our entrees were served with a yogurt and a tamarind dipping sauce. Matthew tried the Seekh kabob. Finely minced beef, marinated, then rolled into 2 large sausage looking rolls, they are then grilled and served. The beef sort of just melts in your mouth. Matthew's side of saffron rice was fluffy and flavorful. I tried the Behari kabob. The beef was again marinated in spices, onions, ginger and garlic so that it's very tender, grilled then served with yogurt and tamarind sauce. The beef was so spicy I almost couldn't taste the beef! I had to squeeze some lemon on it and then when eaten with my bread, was more palatable. My side of garlic naan was spot on. Service and hospitality was good. Everything in the restaurant is served on disposable dishes down to the cutlery. You're also politely asked to clear your own table upon completion of your meal. They have quite a few other entrees on their menu which I would have to inquire, but Ash could tell you about every single item in detail. They also have a short list of sweet desserts. Tried this place again. This time around, decided to do dine-in. It was a great decision. Went with the Nihari (slow-cook beef shank in spices), saffron rice, chicken samosa, and garlic naan. Totally worth it. The meat was so tender and juicy. The sauce was perfectly spiced. I love the heat and it was made just right. Saffron rice and naan also served as great sauce-soakers :P. Well, this will be one of my new favorite places. Right up there with the gas station thai place! If you are looking for really good food at a great price, then look no further! She was wonderful and explained all the dishes since I didn't know what some of them were. You place your order at the counter and they bring the food out to you. They offer a special at lunch which was pick one from each column of 3. I got the aloo samosa, the keema curry and the vegetable curry. Also came with your choice of rice or naan. I chose naan. My food came out quickly and everything was hot. I loved everything I had. It was great! I cleaned my plate. No leftovers. sigh My friend really liked her food too. My friend and I decided to meet for lunch at Kabob-licious after she had seen great reviews on Yelp. This restaurant is run by a family who was so personable and friendly when we visited. I will definitely visit again just because of their hospitality. The food was also amazing! Their menu is easy to navigate, and If you have questions about the different items, just ask they will gladly explain their dishes. There is also a screen with running pictures that shows you the different selections. This was very helpful and the main reason I decided on ordering the Chicken Boti and the Garlic Naan bread. We received our meal quickly. Nice to know if you're on a lunch hour. The presentation of the Chicken Boti with the red marinate made my mouth water. (Later I read that the red coloring is from beetroot powder.) The kabob was a nice portion and the chicken, chargrilled perfectly, was tender and juicy. The Garlic Naan bread was served warm (YUM!) and was super soft. Eat it together with the chicken and you have a perfect meal. Another favorite was the Bullet Naan bread. This place is definitely a new hidden gem. Last Sunday we decided to stop by and try some new kabobs with Indian spices. We started with beef samosas and they were just spicy enough - not too hot and fried perfectly. I then went with chicken malai boti, saffron rice, and garlic naan. The chicken was on the milder side which was still spicy enough. What I love about this place is the great char on the meat and naan. Perfectly charred and not burnt. The owner is super friendly and helped explain the menu and was offering suggestions. The only reason I did not give this place a 5 star rating is they were out of several items (seafood) when we were there. I am sure that they would have been awesome if they were available. Kabob-licious is De-licious!! We ordered Chicken Biryani, Chicken Tikka Masala, and a plain Naan. Loved how the naan was made fresh and everything came out hot! The portion was reasonably sized and everything was super tasty, yum! The owners were very nice as well. We did ask for everything to be as NOT spicy as possible as we had two kiddos with us. My husband and I went in for dinner. It was our first time and as soon as I walked in I liked it. It's decorated in a modern color palate (gray) and everything is pretty and new including the bathrooms. It's the type of restaurant where you order at the counter and are given a number. When your food is ready they will call your number. They actually brought our food out to our table for us. The woman that was working the counter was very nice and happy to answer any of our questions on the menu since we weren't family with most items. We ordered chicken samosas, chicken kadhai, chicken tikka masala and plain naan. All the food was delicious. I like spicy food but I'll admit this pushed the upper limit of my spice tolerance. I found this place while driving by after a local mountain bike race. I was famished and asked for a dish that would make me want to drive back from Tuscaloosa (where I live) to have it again. She recommend three dishes, and when she said nihari was available in the B'ham area only at this restaurant, that's what I chose. It was AMAZING. I'm definitely coming back here for this incredible dish and friendly environment. When I went to Kabob-Licious, I ordered the chicken biryani with a side of onions and lime. The portions are definitely worth the price and can feed two people easily. Their food is quality when it comes down to nailing the spices and in the way they cook their meat. Delicious! They have dine and pick-up and I chose to pick-up my order. It has been five years since I have had Kabob-Licious and I decided to go back and see if anything had changed. We ordered the chicken tikka, beef kabob, behari kabob, and seekh kabob platters. Everything came with a cilantro and mint chutney and grilled vegetables. We ordered garlic naan on the side and everything came out very quickly. All of the dishes were great but the chicken tikka was my favorite. The inside is a little small but still fits plenty of customers and the owners are really sociable and nice. The restaurant is tucked into a strip mall with plenty of parking. There's a no fuss, take out spot vibe to this place but they do have decent table seating inside. There are two mounted TVs! Now the food! We ordered the beef samosas - they were ok, not as flavorful as we would expect. But crispy exterior! We ordered 3 orders of naan, 1 per person. Absolutely delicious made in house naan! For entrees to share, we got the chicken tikka boti - delicious, flavorful, and love the heat that comes with the after taste! Behari kabob was mm mm mm - like melt in your mouth good literally! Their marination process on this is on point and we ate every bit! This is definitely a meat lover's delight but they do have a couple of vegetarian options on the menu. I recently had a very disappointing experience at Kaboblicious located at 1841 Montgomery Hwy in Birmingham. Before stepping into this restaurant, I strongly urge everyone to read this review, as it will greatly help you make a wise decision. Upon arriving at the restaurant at 11:30 am (despite the sign on the door stating it was open at 11:00 am), I found that there was nobody inside. I called the number displayed on the door, and a lady answered. I asked her about their opening hours, and she rudely informed me that they open at 12 noon, while their tandoor opens at 11:00 am. I mentioned that I didn't see anyone inside, and she replied dismissively, asking what I wanted. I informed her that I would like to place an order and dine in. She abruptly hung up, instructing me to call when ready with my order. After deciding what to eat, I called the lady back and placed my order. She asked me what time I wanted my order to be ready, and I specified 12 noon, when the restaurant officially opens. She rudely informed me that it would not be ready at noon, as it takes an hour for the tandoor to warm up. To my surprise, there was no one inside the restaurant at this time. Nevertheless, I agreed to come back at 12:30 as I needed to travel further. When I walked into the restaurant at 12:15, I immediately recognized the rude lady and her husband in the kitchen, realizing they were the owners. I chose a table and the lady emerged from the kitchen without greeting me and told me to move to a far side table, where I had a poor view of the TV which was playing loudly. When the food finally arrived, no water or napkins were provided. As my family and I began eating, we discovered a hair in one of the dishes called NIHARI, which Kaboblicious is known for. Another lady came to eat and was treated much better by the owners, with water and napkins promptly served to her. The owners were so engrossed in talking to this customer that they forgot to even inquire about our dining experience. I wanted to call the lady over, but I didn't want to make a scene and expose what I had discovered in the food. Instead, I instructed my wife to pay and we left. Throughout our visit, the owners only communicated with us through three brief sentences: "Move to a different table," "Here is your food," and finally, during payment, "Okay." Aside from their preferential treatment towards other customers, both owners were primarily focused on conversing with a single customer who arrived after us. The entire restaurant was empty, but they chose to prioritize this individual over us. After leaving the restaurant, I immediately called to express my dissatisfaction with our experience and inform the lady about finding a hair in our food. However, due to her rude attitude, I asked to speak with her husband, but she hung up on me. I called the restaurant again, and when asked what I wanted, I explained that I wanted to speak with her husband to discuss their operational flaws. She claimed he wasn't present and asked for my phone number to pass along the message for him to call me. However, I never received a call from him, and I am still waiting to hear back. To all future customers of Kaboblicious, please remember that our dignity comes first before anything else. I encourage you to consider whether you are willing to subject yourself and your family to the humiliation I experienced. This is the best Indian and Pakistani food currently available in Birmingham, and by a wide margin. My wife and I have dined here on several occasions, and each time has been a special experience. Here are the key things to observe: 1) The food is prepared fresh, on the spot, by a team of family members. 2) The food is authentic, and you will find many things on the menu that you have never heard of. This is a good thing. 3) By customer request, the food can be ordered very spicy. This is actually a rarity in Birmingham, as many ethnic restaurants here will not take you seriously if you order "Indian Hot" levels of spice, for fear that you won't like it. So, to reiterate, the owners here are willing to serve you real, authentic Indo/Pak cuisine. Culinary paternalism is kept to a minimum. 4) That said, Medhi and Ash (the owners) are extremely willing to give advice about what to order. That is another rare attribute. Many restaurants simply say "everything is good here" which may even be true sometimes, but is not helpful for diners looking to make a selection. 5) Medhi and Ash are among the kindest and most friendly people around. They work hard to make you feel a part of their family. 6) Portions are generous and inexpensive, especially given the quality.
