We were excited to see a new grocery store in our hood as the Ghetto Giant store by the mall just wasn't meeting our needs. It is a new store, so it still has that clean, spacious, well lit feeling to it. I am especially happy with the deli - where we can get decent olives, spanish cheese, and pretty nice bread from the bakery. The produce section is also very clean and fresh. My husband and I decided to go to the Safeway out of convenience after our breakfast date. It is fairly new and we had never been in there, so decided to give it a shot. Everything was stocked and presented well. Also found some items that I had never tasted before. I was asked if I was finding everything okay by a employee while walking through the aisle, as I was shopping. At the checkout, my husband and I were talking about not finding any calamari. (He fell in love with the fried calamari from whole foods that I had bought) The cashier overheard us and asked her manager right away. The manager actually went to go grab it for us! This Safeway rules. Although being super convenient to my house, I would recommend it even if it weren't as close. From the clean feel/fancy hardwood floors, open space, easy parking garage, and generally being well stocked up...it is a enjoyable shopping experience. Also, the self bagging grains/nuts/teas section, is a huge perk for me. And...not to mention their rather bangin' beer selection. Definitely not what you would expect from a Safeway. After shopping at this location for about 4 months. I've reached the end of the road with this location. Unless I'm running in the store for something nonperishable I will make every effort to stay clear of this location. Most of the staff is friendly, however I go to location with quality products even it is extremely out of my way. read more

This Safeway is always clean and fully stocked. Salad bar, freshly made sandwiches, deli, bakery and everything else you would expect from a grocery store. We'll lit parking garage with ample spaces. For those who don't like Giant, this is a nice alternative read more

Very disappointed that the store was not interested in helping Girl Scouts this year. They loaded the area they usually use with water bottles and put Girl Scouts at an entrance that gets very little traffic. The girls asked to be at the top of the escalator or in front of the elevator but the store manager refused. Boo! read more

The worst grocery store and biggest disappointment for being new. It is so poorly run. I truly don't get it. The belts are always dirty. The entrance and elevators are already dirty. The check out lines are pathetically slow with people untrained. The self serve is rarely operating. It is scary with crime. This Safeway is located in downtown Wheaton, right by the Metro station. And how convenient that it stays open 24/7?! Mega convenient. I've only been to this location a few times but from what I've seen, it's really neat, clean, and organized. The one thing that I was a bit annoyed by was a cashier interrupting a private conversation and giving her opinion. read more

I am very happy to say that this is now my favorite Grocery Store, and not just because its literally under my apartment and super convenient. I always get exceptional customer service no matter the time of day or night. I have 2 boys and sometimes have to go shopping late at night while they sleep and even then the associates are eager to help and the line moves along fairly quickly. It's also a place that is kept clean and makes you feel very comfortable. I also love the discounts you can get with the club card and the gas points :) read more

Going in for a late night snack because you live in the building right next to it and it's 24 hours only to have to wait in line for almost 45 minutes because they have one cashier. I understand it is late but it is an it disappointing because I move to this location for that convenience but it's more of a hassle than not. Even during the day the don't open many lines and their individual pay stations break down a lot. At least two don't work on a given day. They have great prices and decent sales but the service isn't too great. read more

This Safeway Grocery Store is right outside the Wheaton metro (near the Wheaton Westfield mall in Wheaton Maryland). On my recent trip I purchased multiple items that included chopped olives, corn dogs, pickles, and other items I prefer to avoid listing for now. However, the employees I interacted with were friendly and I was able to get my food items scanned in a reasonable time period. read more

Clerk seemed inexperienced - did not know difference between broccoli and broçcolini. If I return I will have to doublecheck my register tape. I do like store for choices. Great sushi. read more

This review is for their job process and customer service. Their management has to be a joke. Their front end manager is so unprofessional and rude. Why would you make an appointment for an interview only to make the applicant wait an additional 40 minutes? I left after that rudeness. And to make it worst, the manager kept saying "I'll be with you in a minute." while she was talking to everyone else. There were employees buying lottery tickets while on the clock. Like really? The employees don't know what "Hello" or "How are you doing? " is. Customer service is non-existent here. They need more training in customer service and professionalism. Avoid going to this safeway. You end up paying more when you check out. The listed prices are not what you will see on your bill. I was paying 3 to 5 $ more each time. This supposed to be convenient store as it doesn't have that much of selections that you could choose from, yet, most of the time there is only one register to serve the whole grocery store! I grabbed a candy bar the other day and I waited in line for like 20 minutes! Self checkout is not what you think bc most of the time the cashier has to go to each one and fix them for the customers. If this issue can't be solved then I expect this grocery store to be closed soon as it seems like it's been poorly managed for a while. read more

Safeway has been a Godsend for Wheaton and our family! I love that we can walk to Safeway in our PJs at 2am to buy medicine for sick children... I love that there are now three Starbucks within a 1/2 mile radius of our house... I have been to Safeway almost every day since it opened, including during snow emergencies. Clean, well-lit, with great produce and weekly specials. Despite the great location right in front of the metro station and their 24/7 availability, this store has a major drawback with their check-out. At busy times, usually only 2 lines are open, and their self-service machines are gross. Also, be sure to check expiration dates on products. read more

This Safeway is a gift and a curse. The pros, it's in a good location. Although the parking lot is a bit narrow, I can always find parking. For the most part, it tends to be fairly clean. Great having a Starbucks inside and the there is a nice selection of bakery and deli items. The cons, pricing is a bit high. I have personally found on 3 occasions, expired product. I understand that could happen at any grocery store. But still going to point it out. Lastly, probably everyones biggest complaint, the lack of open registers. What good is having the convenience of parking, running up and quickly grabbing a few things at 10p, only to have to wait 25 mins in line because there is only one cashier? This Is a daily occurrence and can happen at any time. Self check out tends to be under repair half the time as well. read more

Pretty basic Safeway, just like the others. It's great that they have parking on the lower level of the apartment complex they are attached to. I don't know where else you could possibly park if the garage was not there. I was a little disappointed that there was no organic isle, something I'm used to seeing in Giant. read more

What an improvement! The old Safeway reopened as a new and expanded Safeway at the end of last month, and it is really amazing! I will have to get over that a huge apartment skyscraper is built over it with the big Safeway logo on top of each side and underground parking, but it just makes the Safeway that much easier to find. It's really clean and has so much more than the previous store. I found a full bakery there! One of the standout things is that they have a bakery large enough to carry that new fad croissant/doughnut (some call it a cronut and some call it a doissant - need to look it up online). Their version is a simple glazed version or a cinnamon sugar covered one, but instead of $5 or more for each, they sell a box of 4 for $5. It's a little more expensive than your regular doughnut, but it's a good deal if you're looking for cronuts or doissants in the DC area. I did go back recently, but their croissant/doughnut has become much smaller and gone down in quality. It's not as "croissant-flaky" or large as when they first opened, so they may end up losing customers to other Safeway locations that make these at the larger doughnut size that they used to. read more

The product selection is fine. But their service after approx. 10 p.m. on any given night is minimal at best. CLOSING THE SELF-CHECKOUT LANES and forcing your customers to wait in a 20-minute-plus line for one checkout lane isn't going to cut it anymore, especially with additional apartment buildings being built just down the street from The Exchange. read more

If you like dealing with employees who hate their job and loathe their customers, this is your spot! My cashier sprayed his sneeze all over creation not once but twice. I didn't have a safeway card and didn't want to pay full price when my items were on sale, so I asked if he had a card I could use. He gave me a dirty look and shook his head, which I took to mean "no." I asked if I could try entering my phone number. Again, he gave me a dirty look and shrugged. Then I asked to get a new card, since I didn't want to pay twice the price for the items without one. He said, "we out." This place is smelly, the employees could give less than half a crap about trying to help, and the produce is more expensive than it is at the Whole Foods down the street. We thought we would try out Safeway delivery and a terrible experience. We had a 4-6pm delivery window. Waited 20 minutes on hold when no one had shown up by 20 minutes after the window. They said all they could do is call the driver and ask him to call us. Finally cancelled the order 90 minutes after the delivery window because we put our baby to bed. Just in case, my husband put a sign on the door saying we cancelled / do not ring the doorbell. And then they showed up and were starting to unload the groceries to leave them OUTSIDE if my husband hadn't noticed and told them to take them away. Although they already charged us for the groceries we don't have, they say it will take 7-10 days to refund our money. So, we won't be doing that again. read more

There are some things I like about this place; the indoor parking, it's closer to home, good selection of products, etc. It's the bakery that has sent me back to the Giant. They rarely have twist ties and sometimes no bags. Often the floor is littered with the blue wraps. I asked a lady working there for twist ties and was told "they have them in produce". So it's my job to stock her supplies? I figure if that's the kind of service out front I wonder what the back room is like. The service at the Giant is far superior. read more

It's a shame about this Safeway. The building is nice, parking is easy and it's 24/7. But rotting food on the shelves? The produce is worthless - if it isn't already rotten in the store it will be within a day or two of getting it home. I find the staff to be very rude and unprofessional. I often see them arguing with each other while I wait for assistance at the self check out. I have never seen someone step in as a manager. I have started going back to the Giant despite having to fight mall traffic. Groceries are too expensive to be constantly disappointed. I hope they get new management quick. read more

I give them a 3 because the girl who made made my sandwich, made the best sandwich I've ever had seriously!! It was in the morning and I did not catch her name. The store it self is nice very clean the food fresh I shop in the morning and I see them stack the fruits and veggies. This is all good, I love the bakery as well. Now, to the negative, the customer service is ok some well most of the cashiers are friendly there are always a few... I had a very rude encounter with a cashier worker, that made me uncomfortable to the point where I asked for the manager. So I spoke with management in the morning and explained the situation and how it made me feel. He told me that he would talk to her and asked for my information. I declined to leave my information as I did not want to cause this women her job. So I left it at that I don't wish to return but that sandwich was soo bomb, I just don't know. read more

Very disappointed with one of the staff member of the store in Georgia Ave and reedie Dr.. I was at the store yesterday buying something that I needed and when I was making the line with two other guys to pay, a lady was walking around and told one of the guys to come with to help them and I walked along with them. I left the line and came back quickly, when she was finishing with the last person, then, she closed the register. I said I was with them. Also the guy told her that I was with them, but she said very arrogant. Sorry, go to the next register. I said, Is that discrimination? No man, is not discrimination, she said. But really, for me that is discrimination. She helped the other two guys because they were black like her and did not want to help me because I'm Hispanic. read more
