Some may think this is a discount grocery store and may snub this place because they are too good for discount groceries, however, that type of attitude just truly shows their own ignorance and haughtiness come out. Lidl was a chain started in Germany originally and then expanded all across Europe and now in 31 countries. You will find things here you wont find elsewhere and if you like European goods, you will definitely find some treasures here. The prices here are good, so thats one of the reasons that brings me in. But, also, they carry Greek, Spanish, French, Portuguese and other ex US products here which makes it fun to shop here and uncover new treasures! This store has limited edition section and it was fun to browse that as they have some European items that looked quite interesting, most Greek & French products. I took a look around their frozen section and even saw they had some frozen escargot (snails), which was super interesting for me to see! I didnt get any this time around, but may get some when I am back home. They also have lot of fresh flowers and plants for sale here and lovely to see these options for sale! My only gripe about this place is that everytime you come into the store, the fresh produce section always looks like a disaster and the floors super dirty. I wish they would clean this area up a bit better and make it more visually appealing. How hard is it to remove some empty boxes, mop the floors regularly and arrange the produce in an orderly manner? Id definitely come back again and always there is something interesting to discover. read more

I have been going here for 6 years now and it is just getting more disappointing every time I go. Went to self check out because the cashiers always seem overwhelmed and frustrated(rightly so)tried to check out my items and one of the attendants came over, didn't say a word to me and proceeded to check all my of my items, threw them on top of my bags, smashing my groceries and then asked me if I wanted to bag them, after ignoring my inquiries, while he was checking my items. This whole process took longer than if I would have done myself. When I was leaving I asked why he checked my items at self check and was told he was trying to move the line. There was no line before I got there or when I left. Customer service was very disappointing. I worked@grocery stores for 20 years and understand how they work and that was just rude. read more

You always have to be Showtime ready. And there's no excuse if the store is not that busy. I understand if it was busy earlier but now it's not busier clean the store up. Grocery selections are great. I wish this existed when I was a college student. Essential groceries for a low price. This is basically a better version of Aldi. They have a bakery section that has freshly baked goods like cookies, croissants, bread for a low price. They do have bags (paper and plastic) but you will have to pay for them. Best bring your own bags. My problem with this Lidl location is the staff. They are rude and inattentive, at least when they first opened in 2019. Slowly they started to hire better folks. This location does have self checkouts but during less busy hours of the day, they disable them. During COVID, they had two sanitizing stations where you could wipe down your cart, use hand sanitizer, and pick up gloves. Which I thought was great. The parking lot entrance is a bit of a hassle as it is just off route 1. The best way to enter is to make a turn at the traffic light and come in around the back of the lot. read more

Lidl is like that cool cousin to ALDI. Like that cool cousin that you get to see every so often is and just a touch cooler. One that you enjoy being around because they have something unique to offer. I know, this is a weird way to start a review. But that is how I see Lidl. A cool store with a little more to offer. The one thing I really appreciate about this space is the fact that you can basically see across the store and it doesn't feel like you are walking down caverns of aisles. You feel a bit more welcome and less overwhelmed. They do have a lot of items to offer, but it's not overwhelming when selecting the one you want. Much like ALDI, they carry a great selection of items that aren't national brands, but unlike ALDI, they do mix in some national brands if you want to go with the familiar. Also like ALDI, they have that one aisle that gives you the opportunity to buy an item that you don't necessarily need. This is how I came to purchase a teepee for my cat... This place, out of all the places I have been for groceries, has been the best spot to grab your spices. I had been in need of some specific spices and was not able to find a few of them until I came here. The prices are hard to beat here, I seem to find myself spending less than most grocery stores when I have a list here. I also appreciate that they have self checkouts so I can go at my pace and avoid as much social contact as I can. Remember to bring your bags in here. Where else can a good quality croissant be purchased for 59 cents? The answer is nowhere. I'm always surprised when I walk in this place to do some grocery shopping that the price hasn't increased. In fact, on some days, their croissants are less expensive than that (and not because they're old). Say what?! These crescent-shaped pastries that make me so happy are prominently placed in the bakery section, found at the front of the store. Can't be missed. I have to share a Lidl bit about this grocery store. I love it. The location is a little schlepp but worth it. The produce arrives daily. It is just as good as whole foods. Aldi has cheaper eggs & milk but I can't get Ediname at Aldi. The toiletry section has a Lidl more variety than Aldi (not to diss Aldi). The chocolate selection matches (out of business) Dean and Deluca or Balduccis and is much cheaper. The frozen section has Calamari and other seafood. They also carry ice. Aldi has better quality clothing items but there is a Lidl bit larger "non food" selection here (cleaning supplies, storage items, sewing machine). Im updating my review because the honeymoon is over. Its been like 2 months or less since this place has been open and its going downhill. Simple stuff is always out of stock. Produce goes bad just like their competitor. Im a late night shopper. Only one register is open meanwhile 3 clerks are on the floor restocking bananas and other frivolous stuff because thats much more important than getting customers out. Im tired at the end of the night. I shouldnt have to use self checkout. If I wanted to be a cashier I wouldve applied at Target. If you have to return an item (bad produce) you have to get in line and they have to call a manager. Its usually some tall man, who seems angry that he was summoned to the register. Leaving the store, the parking lot is pitched black. Why. Is the electric bill too high that you have to do that? Get it together Lidl your slowing turning into Aldis twin sister. read more

Super happy with this location. There was a line when I arrived, but I loved that they had someone out front monitoring who could come in, plus the line moved fairly quickly. Because of this, the store wasn't too crowded. I was pleased with the fact that they had everything that I needed, even the specials. This hardly ever happens at my local store. Check out was efficient as well, because they had plenty of lines open for the amount of customers present. read more

WATCH OUT FOR THE STORE MANAGER AT THIS STORE LOCATION!!! I have been a lifelong patron of Lidl, both in the US and when growing up in Germany. Never before have I encountered a ruder and more incompetent manager. Today I wanted to purchase a package of paper towels. The same item was displayed in two areas of the store. One was priced at $12.68 and the other display was $13.68. Needless to say when I got to the cashier the cashier called the manager about this discrepancy and the manager rudely refused to sell me the item at the lower price, despite me pointing out to the manager that there were two different prices. Clearly this manager is not competent to ensure that the merchandise displayed in the store is properly labeled. Total INCOMPETENCE on this manager's behalf. To top it all off when I refused to purchase the higher priced item, she then instructed the cashier to not even check out the rest of the items that I wanted to purchase. Lidl must not want people's business since I left a cart of nearly $100 of merchandise behind. I average about $300-$400 in monthly purchases and I will be taking my money to their competitor at Aldi. Good luck Lidl!! So watch out for this rude and incompetent manager. Shopping at Lidl near me in College Park, MD since 2021. A few times got a bad piece of produce but they are always working to clear it out. They have to stock during the day or the shelves would be bare. Students & others buy all day long. Never had a recall for anything from them. Never ever had a worker rude to me. Male & female always helpful and courteous. Sometimes going out of the way to help. The store inside is as clean as can be considering many people are walking around all day. This is my first time being inside a LIDL inside the U.S. The place is very well lit and they have good AC thru the store. Came here about two hours before closing and noticed most of the shelves were empty and lacked restocking. The bakery was closed so couldn't get any freshly made bread. They have a very diverse selection of food products. A lot of organic grass fed chicken meats and ground beef also. Some brands I do recognize and a lot I don't because about 75% of the store is their own brands. They have a very good selection of food from the basics like eggs to advanced foods. In the middle of the store they have clothes, weed wackers and even mini pianos for sale. Lol. Most of the foods and stuff were priced low but some stuff you can almost get the brand name of stuff such as taco shells for the same price elsewhere. The produce and fruit prices are low but nothing to write home about. They also lack a good selection of juice and they DON'T carry any organic and/or cage free eggs here like you'll see in the YouTube videos about LIDL. Lastly. Tried saying hi to some employees and they didn't even reply. Also this may sound weird but the entire staff I seen working in this store is about 95% female. Seen the male manager upfront talking with the female assistant manager. This store definitely lacks diversity in their staff. Also there were abandoned carts all over the parking lot when I left near peoples cars. Overall not a bad store. Definitely unique. If you're a Whole Foods/Trader Joe's person like me. Products are generally pretty good. The check out lines (when any are actually open) are ridiculously long and slow.... Which brings us to their self check registers. You scan an item and the register takes like 15 seconds telling you to put the item that you just scanned in the bagging area. After setting the item down, the system takes like 20 more seconds before it recognizes that the weight of the item was placed there. Throughout all of this, the self check register won't let you scan another item. This results in the self check line being 20 to 30 shoppers deep. And the shopping carts... half or more are already like they're ready for the scrap heap. I want to like this store being as it's close and the prices are mostly good, but it's just not worth the frustration. read more

My parents worship it, my friends hype it... I was going to wait until the one in Lanham / Greenbelt opened, but I found myself in need of some specific simple groceries and said hey, why not? I decided to drive a convenient 10 minutes to the LIDL on Route 1 in College Park. It was around 8:45 at night, so it wasn't crowded thankfully. I was just across the street the previous weekend and it looked like a madhouse! So I stepped inside and I really liked the layout! The closest thing to me was produce, and since I needed spinach, that was my first stop. THE SHELVES WERE EMPTY!!! But, after seeing the price tags, I could see why! As I casually explored the store, I was marveled by the prices, especially for organic things (reminded me a lot of Trader Joe's). Needless to say, I ended up picking up a lot more than I came for. But I spent $17 for like eight things that'll last me a long time! In other places, I would've spent $25-$30 easily. I was also intrigued to see that this store has more than just groceries.... I saw a bunch of rugs, stools, house appliances, clothes, and other things! Now, since I was on a time crunch, I did not get to fully explore the stuff outside of food. Oh, I didn't mention that, like DC, you have to pay for bags! It's $.07 per paper bag. So please be green and bring your own! Unfortunately, as epic as this store is, it has its shortcomings. Produce runs out oddly quickly it seems... and I cannot go before I head to work without being late, so I might have to endure the weekend crowd! Also, they have limited options in certain categories such as their juices. I was hoping for some more exotic juice flavors to peruse through, but found myself underwhelmed, given how exciting selections in other categories were. I will be becoming a regular shopper here... Aldi & Trader Joe's had a love child. Had to check out the brand new store in College Park, to see what the other German grocery chain has to offer. Definitely a zoo on day 1, expect it will be popular when UMCP starts classes again. Large parking lot and interesting architecture. High ceilings and wide aisles. Free WiFi but you have to give your email address. Rewards through their app. Fresh bakery. Produce section bigger than Aldi, some more exotic items, for instance fennel. Many store brand items, some look like they come from the same factory that does Aldi's. They also have a fair number of name brands. Much wider selection of cheese and charcuterie than Aldi. Meats and seafood come in sealed packages. The center of the store has hard goods, tools, clothing, furniture. All the registers were open, got out quickly. Like Aldi, they charge for bags, but they are paper rather than plastic. I recommend you bring your own. No deposit for carts, and people were leaving them all over the lot. Some prices lower than Aldi, a few higher, mostly about the same. I will probably visit again when I want something they have (the kimchi is pretty good), but still use Aldi for staples just because it's closer. read more

First of all for anyone who is used to shopping at Aldi's this place is HUGE. A much larger selection and a much more diverse group of products. The isles are very spacious, the store is spotless. There are both name brand items as well as store brand items. The selection in the chicken and meat department was more in line with a large chain supermarket. All shelves and coolers are well stocked and well maintained. The parking lot is spacious and very convenient to load your car. The staff is very helpful and plentiful. Not hard to find someone to help you and they're very knowledgeable of their inventory This is the first store that I've seen in Maryland. It's quite far from where I live and I hope that Lidl intends to expand to other areas in Montgomery in Frederick county. read more

Why did I return to this dump? Argggggh. Desperation. Because I needed four items and it was EZ EZ EZ to one right hand turn into the lot. They still do not have any of their advertised items, standard items are picked over and trash. Why advertise, if the next day the sale is announced nothing is in stock. I compared prices from two other supermarkets and LIDL does not have the best prices. Prices for basic items vary very little and what LIDL offers is not good for your palate. If you want to save chump change *10 to 30 cents* on things such as snacks this is the store for you. 2 liter name brand soda is the same price as supermarket. Ditto raspberries, bagged salad, toiletries. Purchased the only coleslaw mix they offer from Dole and it ruined my dressing. Inedible because the cabbage tasted like chemicals. Disgusting. This time I purchased a baguette. It was over baked and tough, but tasted decent. Not worth the price. No lemons, no parsley, no bar soap. I am done with LIDL. The five star ratings from recent 2021 seem bogus to me. NOTE: No way you can call the store directly or check to see if they have items in stock, ask about recalls, etc.. Zero customer service. All LIDL and ALDI offers is an 800# where no one answers. read more

Just went to Lidl for the first time on 8/2/19. It's sort of like being at IKEA if it became a grocery store. The store is large with wide aisles. It is brightly lit and clean. We found some great bargains that we never seen at Giant, Safeway, and Harris Teeter. Filet mignon was $4.99 (sale). Salmon was $6.56 per pound (sale). Bananas were only 39 cents per pound. Broccoli was $1.29 per pound. Finally, a box of blueberries was $1.99. Besides food, Lidl sells seasonal items like school supplies, small kitchen appliances, and storage boxes/containers that are reasonably priced. You may pay at the cashier or go to self checkout. Bags are 7 cents each or bring your own. The only thing missing is an express checkout for 12 or fewer items. Hope that Lidl will be built in other parts of Maryland making grocery shopping both affordable and enjoyable. read more

I finally had to the chance to visit the new Lidl and it was amazing. If you love Aldi (which I do!) you will love Lidl. If you haven't been to either, give both of them a try!! It is bigger than Aldi with way more options (see my photos) Lots of affordable organic items. Aldi is literally walking distance from me but Lidl will be worth the 10 minute drive! Just like Aldi, it's best to bring your own bags. If not you can buy their paper bags for like 10 cents each. You do not need a quarter to get a cart but that was never an issue. There's the good, the bad, and the ugly about this place- here goes: - The GOOD: some of the products here are great- I've tried the Lidl brand for many products. Two which shine include their preferred selection of olive oil and swiss cheese; I'm a connoisseur of both, and Lidl nailed it on each- the taste and perfection of some of their brand label products are world-class, without the outlandish price tags. That's probably why I'll always stop in here every once in a while to stock up on some of their products (see more about stocking up later). This is also a neat place to just come in and browse, and purchase some lower-priced products and see how they are, almost like a grocery grab-bag. I love places that surprise you with new products and items that you see occasionally but when you buy them- WOW! - The BAD: remember I wrote about stocking up earlier? Well, their stocking stinks! I have come in on a Wednesday mid-morning, and have seen whole sections of shelves just BARE! And I'm not just talking about toilet paper during The Pandemic- dairy products, canned goods, certain ice cream and frozen food products apply also. They really need to do a better job of getting their products in, and getting them on the shelves, period. Their produce is iffy- often marginal quality, and sometimes over-ripe. Yes, it's low-priced, but I almost feel they raid Whole Foods' dumpster at night, and you see it in Lidl the next morning. Sorry to be so blunt, but they need to fix this. Getting in and out of the parking lot is challenging. I realize this place is off of Route 1, oh sorry, "Baltimore Avenue" (even though this area has nothing to do with Baltimore, figure that one out MDOT!), but still, somebody didn't plan this out very well. I find their bakery ok, but nothing special like some reviews claim. Shoppers Food blows away their donuts, Safeway has much better bagels; their prices are ok, but if you're going to buy store-made baked goods, they better be real good. - The UGLY: their staff. I've hardly ever dealt with such zombie-like, unpassionate and sometimes discourteous staff. REALLY! Take the staff member that bumps into me while whisking himself up to the front to take care of some issue- he bumps into me! No sorry, no "excuse me sir", no nothing! Ridiculous! Other staffers, who, when asked a question, respond "no", "don't know" "don't care" (body language-like, not verbally, but might as well be). I honestly think their training includes "DON'T SPEND TIME ON THE CUSTOMER- YOU ARE HERE TO STOCK SHELVES, NOTHING ELSE!" Is that your mantra, Lidl? Well, if it is, it's really ugly. Employee attitude starts from the top, and if the top is like this, I will limit my shopping here. Severely. This place is close to home and has great prices. It has similarities to Aldi, but looks better AND has a bakery, which is my favorite thing about this Lidl. Cookies, croissants, baguette, bagels, donuts and more...But, outside of that carbohydrate trap, Lidl is a smaller style grocery store. Like Aldi, most of the items are Lidl's own brands and you will need to pay for your own bags if you do not bring your own. However, you do not need a quarter for the carts. There is also adequate parking. My biggest issue are the lack of open lines. The best option is to use the self-checkout. Other than that, I do recommend Lidl for a quick food run. I would not expect to find everything you are looking for in a traditional grocery store, but definitely the basics. read more

I like shopping there its convenient and close to home. The only issue I have is the customer service. The cashiers and some of the staff need customer service training. My shopping experience is good until I get to the checkouts, where are the smiles and greetings? I had to tell one cahier not to sling my food down the belt and when I'm trying to bag my groceries stop the damn belt because my items were falling on top of each other . I like Lidl for the prices and their brands are great, however, it doesn't matter when you plan to come, they are out of stock of the most popular items that people shop for. This location is at the top of the University of Maryland campus so it's great prices for the students without having to go to Safeway or Giant. College Park was a food desert for years. First came Target Express. Then the infamous Whole Foods. I am delighted for my fellow Terps that Lidl has finally opened and it is much closer than Aldi on a bus/shuttle bus ride. The instant reaction is: it is very spacious, bright and clean. Their carts and parking lot are much nicer than Aldi's. As other reviewers mentioned, several products and packaging look almost identical to their Aldi counterparts. There is however a larger selection and a good chunk of ethnic foods, including Greek, both in the frozen and dry goods. So far, a majority of the items we tried had a great value for the quality they are. I would recommend the $3.99 flatbreads, they make a great meal with a side salad. Good produce selection, good bakery, with 99 cent baguettes when you get 2. They have coupons and an app, too. Will certainly be back when I am in the area. read more

These Lidl is pretty amazing. Typically clean and well organized. Produce is fresh and there's a small bakery section that always has some tasty treats. Yes it's mainly a grocery store with the best prices for food but there are always a variety of house hold items and appliances/clothes if you need something for a bargain. Be sure to bring your own bags or you will have to purchase your own during checkout. The cashiers are efficient as well and keep the lines moving. They only seem to be able to have 2 people working at any given point so the check out line can be a little longer than normal. read more

The good: The bakery, especially the bread. Cheeses are decent and include a standout -- actual Greek feta. Steals on specialty rice (when they have it), such as $3/kg for arborio. Paella rice will show up in the Spanish section sometimes. Some really good items in the frozen section, such as eggplant parmesan. You like German sweets during Christmas? Their section is terrifying. The bad: Milk goes bad fast, unless you get organic. Produce can be iffy. I've never had actual flavorless cilantro before Lidl, but now I've had it twice. Some of their prices are laughable if you know about the Asian grocery stores in the area. Vegetarian options are lacking. Nothing like Aldi's veggie burgers, and forget about fake meatballs. The ugly: Stocking is awful. Never mind running out of produce at the end of the day, they seem to have real supply chain issues. It takes more than a week for canned goods to show up when the shelf empties. Verdict: It's close, so I'm usually going there once or twice a week, but it's definitely not a replacement for my usual stores. read more

This place opened for about a month now. It's like aldi you have to pay for bags but you don't have to use a quarter for the shopping cart.
