Garbage selection, rudest checkout person ever. Absolutely lame, hard to access from road as well. Many better options.

I guess this is supposed to be my neighborhood grocery store. But, honestly, I'll pass. I'm not seeing much that impresses me here and to see that they are basically a branch of one of the other chains down here, I see I'm not missing much. In all honesty, this is the closest supermarket near me and I have only been in it once. I don't find it inviting in the least. I don't find good deals in here. And I rarely see a smiling face. Overall, that one visit has turned me off on the whole chain. Which is a pity since I see there are several others nearby. If I am in a bind, I will probably see myself back here, but it's not an absolute must that I need to be here. read more

Used to shop here for years. Like 20 years or more! Hadn't been in for awhile. I'm usually at Giant or Aldi and I think I'll be sticking to them! A few days ago, I came in and I must say I was disappointed. Not with the customer service. Ms. Cherry was such a pleasure to chat with, but just with the store layout and the merchandise. The store seems very run down! The carts looked new though. I was surprised at how many things were way more expensive here than other places. There was a notice lack of fresh produce. Half the items on my list I was unable to get here and ended up going to my usual Giant later that day! Yeah don't think I'll be coming back here anytime soon! read more

I have been shopping here for 20 years. This is the last time. they need to fire the manager the produce section looks like a trash, dump and I needed a help at the cash register. Had to wait for the girl to put it here AirPods, so she could continue a phone call with her friend then she complain that I was interrupting her break. This is the last time I will ever shop here. I can't imagine what the back of the store looks like pitiful. I would give them zero stars if I could. read more

Generally, it varies but usually clean and well lit. They used to be slow but that has improved somewhat. A good selection of meat but can be pricey. Vegetables vary, when its good great but can slump off. But I like the vegetable and bakery depts. Salad bar is usually ok. The hot bar can vary. Customer service can be tension filled but usually settles issues promptly. Though it was originally a warehouse, that is not the case now. I believe the atmosphere can affect people so differently here. Even I vary on my feelings when I come here. I like it though! read more

I came here only to get items to make homemade creamed spinach and walked out with two bags full of groceries including beer and wine. This location in College Park surprised me when l saw folks pushing their carts with beer and wine in them. I quickly asked an associate where they were located and was directed to the back of the store where there was an impressive selection of beer, wine and wine coolers. As this is Maryland, l was unaware that you could purchase alcohol in supermarkets. Maybe it was a P.G. County thing...anyhoo, l loaded up and went on my merry way with selecting items for my creamed spinach. The store was clean and well stocked. Check out was breeze and the staff were pleasant. YOU CAN BUY WINE/BEER HERE!!! The selection at this store was good and bad. Good produce, but I was looking for cheapo packs of ramen and it was no where to be found. There was more fancy ramen for $1 for a bag, but I was looking for the $0.20 stuff. But being able to buy beer made up for this. Anything that enables me to NOT have to go to another store is my jam. read more

This is a huge shoppers. If you walk to the right, it goes around in a circle to the left part. I don't even know how to explain this setup but it's just a big place. I wasn't able to find what I needed the few times that I came here which surprised me. Also, one time I came in looking for agave nectar which I know is a specialty item, but it was $3 more than the SAME EXACT ITEM at whole foods. Not only that, but it was also $3.50 more than the SAME EXACT ITEM at Walmart. How is that even possible? Whole foods cheaper than this place? Not even kidding. I just feel like this place is so expensive. The variety of items is pretty awesome but I can't get past the prices....why are they so high in this location? As a college student looking to save money, this is not a grocery store to shop at. read more

"Okay" is the correct description. Good overall selection, and the store seems huge. But there are couple things that will keep me shopping elsewhere: 1) Produce is too expensive compared to the competition. Tomatoes and iceberg lettuce, for example, were running at about the double the prices of Harris Teeter or Trader Joes. 2) Not much selection of grass fed steak (or maybe I just couldn't find it--but it does not appear they have much). read more

I go to Shoppers mainly for convenience. It is near my home, it stays open late and they have beer and wine. Also, they often have some hard to find items such as in their "ethnic" foods section with a lot of the spices and products I like to use for certain home cooked meals. Those are the top pros for me. Though, other stores in the area are beginning to carry these same items, as well. The bakery seems popular as they have huge donuts and baked goods. I've had a few on some instances, and it's mediocre. I wouldn't go there and buy a dozen, but maybe one donut to cure a sweet tooth. The hot bar also seems popular, but after seeing a Yelper post a picture on here with roaches near the hot bar, I would reconsider a decision to eat hot food here. I do not shop here for fruits and vegetables. Their organic section is basically about three rows on one shelf. But even outside of organic, I just don't seem to find good produce there and if I do, it's slightly more expensive than some other local grocery stores. I can't totally speak on the customer service here, but I can say that I RARELY see any staff around the store to ask for assistance or help, unless I am already at the register. There had to be a breaking point. I've been ill twice from the salad bar. On multiple occasions, I've gotten home only to find a seal broken on my sour cream, milk, chicken stock, etc. Their produce isn't hit and miss, it misses every time from wilted herbs to moldy onions. There are certain checkers that I avoid because they are too lazy to look at a produce number, so they expect me to know what variety of apples I have. It's got a label on it! Yesterday, I had a bottle of white wine and a 6-pack of Corona in my cart. I was standing at the pay terminal as my wife placed the scanned 6-pack in our cart. The checker asked to see both of our IDs. I am 48 and have been asked during every visit for my ID. I appreciate that, and happily oblige. She then asked for my wife's ID (I won't reveal her age, but it's 3 years younger than me) she wasn't carrying it, because I was driving to the store and I was paying. She (the checker) said that everyone in the group had to be ID'd. I said that had never happened before, but said that if that was a new policy, fine. I took the beer out of the cart, took the bottle of wine off of the belt and set them aside for her. Not a big deal, we were buying it out of convenience (the only reason we shop here to begin with) Our checker made a big deal that we had never BOTH been checked for ID in the past and I replied this was the first time in the 2 years I had been shopping here. The checker then said to Vanessa in the other checking isle "Did you hear that, they've been shopping here for 2 years and never both been checked". Venessa or Vera or whatever her name is said "Nope, they haven't been shopping here for 2 years". So, after I asked her what she gained by calling us both liars, I let them know that I was done with the BS that is Shoppers on Cherry Hill. I hadn't paid and was walking out, but my wife asked me to stay and pay, because she didn't want to go shopping all over again that night. This place honestly does not care about you or your money. They know you will shop here because they are one of the few grocery stores in the area and have been grandfathered-in to the ridiculous "no alcohol sales in grocery stores" Maryland laws. I will happily go out of my way to never shop here again. read more

CHECK YOUR RECEIPT BARGAIN SHOPPING FRIENDS. I go to Shoppers because it's affordable, convenient, and a one stop shop. However the issues here some days are not worth it. I've been overcharged at this supermarket numerous times. When I've brought it to the attention of my cashier, they refer me to customer service. Customer service has refused to honor THEIR OWN COUPONS on THEIR OWN APP. They're impossible to work with and refuse to help when there are overcharges. This is really as good as Shopper's gets at least in this area. It's like the Weggmans of Shoppers/ let me just start by saying I do not clip coupons. But to go into a Shoppers presumably because its already discounted. I can pickup produce that does'nt look like its been kicked around, the place is clean, good customer service--shout out to Ms. Mary and the crew, fresh seafood that you can put in your basket w/o a 5 second delay+ above average international foods section for a grocery store chain +Wine& Beer (Yes even in prohibition era Maryland). Below is a tip I posted recently: "I won't be buying fish here anymore. Twice in a row I've bought fish from the cooler well before the sell-by date and then found out when I got home to cook it that it smelled terrible and was spoiled. First time was ocean perch prepackaged from the counter, second time was salmon packaged by an outside company. There must be something wrong with their storage methods." I decided to remove the tip and expand it into a review, because now I've had yet ANOTHER spoilage issue, this time with ground beef. Returning the spoiled salmon was easy and I used the refunded money to purchase ground beef instead. Today I went to go cook it (tomorrow is the sell-by date) and it was brown and smelled horrible. No, there isn't anything wrong with my fridge. I have had zero problems with other stores' meats, even from the somewhat rough-edged Giant in my neighborhood. Three strikes... sorry Shoppers but you're definitely out. I'm moving soon anyway but it's too bad I've had such bad luck here lately. I'm giving two stars because otherwise the place has been enjoyable to shop at while I was at UMD. read more

I have been to this Shoppers location in College Park Maryland multiple times since 2015. During my most recent shopping trip, I purchased multiple items that featured Clear Fruit Cherry flavored water, items to make some sandwiches, some lemon juice and more. There are options to choose from when scanning the orders to purchase either from traditional registers or the self scanner checkout registers. I am blessed/lucky to have obtained the groceries from money made at my current place of employment. read more

I hate Shoppers. The parking lot is ALWAYS full and there are ALWAYS ridiculous lines at the checkouts no matter what time of day or night...even the self-checkouts. The store itself is very poorly organized. When you walk in you have to go to the right toward the produce section and walk alllll the way around the produce, deli, and frozen meats sections just to get to the left side of the store where everything else is...unless you want to walk through the crowds of people standing in line. The produce is almost always very dirty and wilted and beat-up. Every time I come here I leave feeling extremely frustrated. read more

I was shocked at how much of a bargain it is here! I usually go to Giant in Silver Spring or Takoma Park and am always shocked when I see the bill! My only complaint at shoppers is that they didn't have a few items in stock that I usually get at Giant. The best part about shoppers are the fresh pastries made in the bakery. The donuts and sweet rolls are so big and pillowie!!!! mmmmmmmm mmmmmmmmm The staff was very friendly and efficient, much better than Giant! I will always come back to shoppers now. read more

I'm from New Jersey, so when I first started living in College Park to go to college, I had never heard of Shoppers. Us Jerseyans are used to Shop Rite, Kings and Stop & Shop. I wasn't hesitant to explore this grocery store because I consider myself an avid, borderline professional shopper, so if the store is named "Shoppers," then that's where I should be. I really love this store. I go every three weeks to stock up on snacks, random college needs and wine because honestly, their wine selection is great and priced very well. The store is always well-stocked and carries everything I'm looking for. You know those new Tostitos Cantina chips? I can't find them anywhere but here and in an arbitrary Walmart in Ellicott City, but I'm no Walmart girl so I'm glad I can get them here. There are plenty of self-checkout lines and normal lines too. There is also an awesome foreign-food aisle that has Jumex juice which is my new thing. Though this Shoppers does not always have the gluten free items I need, the service I get from one of their employees, Jason, always keeps me coming back. He is a very sweet, thoughtful man who is always giving out hugs, fist bumps, and platonic compliments. He always brightens my day and even remembers my name! I would be lying if I said his charisma and positivity wasn't the reason I frequent Shoppers more often than I used to. Shoppers, one of the only grocery options in College Park, unfortunately, gets 3 stars on a good day, and .5 stars on a bad day. A good day is when I come in for a bottle of wine and the check-out guy jokes around with me, teasing me about my vertical VA license (too lazy to get it horizontal), or when I get baked earth chips, honest tea, or anything in their freezer section which is pretty well stocked. Plus I love that specialty bread they sell. Mmm mmm! A bad day is when ALL of the produce is moldy and wilted (I am not making this up...check the strawberries.), you discover they don't sell the beer you want, the seafood is overpriced and underselected, and you feel nauseous by the 10 for $10 specials of disgusting boxed "thai" noodles and "chow mein" ramen that are at the end of every aisle. And then you are stuck in line for 20 minutes (longer than it took you to get your groceries) after both the families with 2 overflowing carts of food AND the obnoxious frat boys buying 3 cases of natty light. read more

There are Bad Places on the planet and this Shoppers is built over one of them. As Bad Places go, it isn't the worst. Maybe a 1.3 on the Alharzed Scale. Manifestations: 1. Slight but permanent patina of skeeve, even after the massive remodeling. 2. Cashiers discussing medical problems as they ring you up. 3. Fresh produce under a Rapid Rot Curse. Apparently some people aren't fans, but I still miss shopping here . . . 3 years later. ;-) Anyway . . . I admit that the produce isn't the best, but you generally get a decent price for it, so you just need to shop carefully. I like knowing that it's generally the cheapest place around, so if I see good produce, to go ahead and get it. If there's something I really want but it isn't there, then I'll go somewhere else. My favorite thing about Shopper's was the selection of International food, which is pretty good for a basic grocery store. I could find stuff there that I have to dig for to find at other stores (and I usually don't have the luck with it). My parents would visit me, go grocery shopping with me, and then get stuff to take home!! Hehe. Also, the lines are NOT bad if you go certain times. Every grocery store is bad on weekends during the afternoon/evening, and they're also bad after work during the week. So . . . I used to go Saturday mornings when I would get up. Traffic was great to get there from campus, and I would be gone and back in less than an hour--and that is quick since I usually took my time shopping, and I had to do the crazy park illegally/carry all the bags up many flights up stairs/put stuff away/run back downstairs praying for no ticket/drive car back to garage/walk back to apartment trick. read more

First visit 8/11/2012. This is a gorgeous Shoppers. It sells wine. It is well organized and well stocked. The hot food bar is great, even on a Saturday afternoon, it does not look all dessicated and skanky. My chicken drumstick was nice and fresh. I usually hit the Giant near my place or the occasional Safeway but I'm becoming more and more a fan of Shoppers. It's got plenty of choice, the stores are usually clean (I've been in three locations) and the prices really are pretty competitive. I've never really done a side-by-side comparison but I've noticed that some of the things are noticeably less expensive - some fruit like bananas and apples. Some of the meat. Bottled juice. Plus they have a great salad bar and their bakery is great. read more

Do NOT purchase from this supermarket. They sell bad meat. Me and my boyfriend got food poisoning. We both threw up, I had severe diarrhea as well. I spoke to customer service and they did not try to compensate me or my partner. They do not sell good meats. This was the second time I brought used meat from there. So, I'm a die-hard fan of Harris Teeter. Seriously. But most of the time, I just don't have the time to drive all the way to Arlington to fulfill my grocery shopping needs. Luckily, this nifty little supermarket is 5 seconds from my house. That being said, it's no Teeter, but it does it's job. Prices are quite low and they have plenty of food. Unfortunately, I'm very much a fan of frozen chicken breasts, but the bags of chicken they sell here are ALWAYS covered in freezer burn. Yikes - I am NOT a fan. Also, they always seem to be low on Vitamin Waters (and I love me some vitamin water). They only have the flavors no one likes, like orange or grape. Other than those 2 issues, I can get most anything else from here. Oh, but don't come to shoppers looking for "organic ______". You won't find it here. Just go to Whole Foods or Trader Joe's. read more

I'm actually really pleased to shop at this place. They have a really good selection of everything. Since a lot of people go there, they seem to get stuff in more frequently - so produce is usually a might more fresh than many other grocery shopping joints. Better prices than Giant and Safeway. They sell 12 packs of schlitz for $4.50. I recently started buying country club malt liquor here as well for $2.59 a six pack. With UMD a bit down the avenue, there are usually some fit birds shopping in here. Also mad props for the extensive selection of latin food. I get my pupusas here, and yuca has been only 54 cents a pound - and its been way fresh and in good shape. read more

Shoppers here is a great store. Its huge - you can find there almost anything your need, and the prices usually really good. Vegetables usually fresh. The reason they don't get a 5 is that it's pretty difficult to find someone who can help you find something you're looking for, and in such a big place it's pretty frustrating.. This is my local grocery store, and I find that I'm here at least once a week/every other week for personal or work purchasing. You can't really beat the location - it's right off 495 and other major roads. The shopping center it's in has plenty of other stores so you can actually run decent errands here. There's also plenty of parking. Their selection is pretty robust as far as chain stores go. The international section always has my random needs (and then some). I also make a lot of gluten-free foods, and their selection has really increased over the last year. My main gripe is that produce can be hit or miss depending on when you're there during the week. As long as you're attentive to what you buy, you'll be fine. Staff are pretty friendly and I feel like I've actually gotten to know them over time. It's rare that I get that feeling with any chain, let alone a store this large. read more

Since I've lived on Cherry Hill for quite a while, it's amazing that I hadn't reviewed this store before. It's a big box superduper market that used to be focused on the low end of the market, hence all those old reviews that blast them for lower quality. Then a few years ago they decided to focus on being the closest full service grocery to the U of Md. Now, the produce is cuter and pricier and there is more emphasis on convenience products. When it's back to school time, lots of Terp licensed merchandise. Pluses are no loyalty program, deli, seafood, hot food, pharmacy, bakery, large salad bar, and a beer and wine section. They also have an aisle dedicated to Latino dairy and non perishable foods. These days I don't go there much for regular shopping except when they have something I need on sale or when I'm passing by and have a gap in the pantry that needs immediate filling. Better deals are elsewhere, and there's no longer much to distinguish them from Giant or Safeway. read more
