Just me in a hat.

I'd be remissed if I didn't mention this. I was at this particular location of Safeway recently looking for pie crusts, but I didn't see where they'd normally be, however, I got the attention of Antonio in seafood, and although it wasn't his department - he not only went out of his way, but he found several that I could use. Much appreciated, good Sir.

Not the greatest safeway but not terrible either. Its good for my quick trips when I only need a few things from the store. Pros: convient location with parking. Starbucks inside. Pharmacy at the location. Meat isn't terrible. Cons: low stocked on items, small store, long lines if you going in the evenings. Sandwich I got there tasted awful once. Avoid most fruits from here. Overpriced and nats are constantly swarming them during the summer.

Grocery Pick Up!

Drive up was super easy. You open your trunk and there is literally no contact. You order everything prior, arrange a delivery time and park in the spot. I was in and out within 5 minutes. If you use the Safeway App, there are tons of coupons. This is my local store I usually go inside but I had a full day of cooking and errands. It's open 24 hours, clean, organized and well stocked.

They have a very large cheese selection. They even had a massive slab of pecorino romano, my personal favorite cheese. I am shown holding it here.

For those in need of Feta... here's where you'll find it.

A solid 4 stars, but this is in the category of Safeway supermarkets within the District. Nothing can compare to VA, the ultimate in grocery shopping experiences. What's so great about this Safeway? Pretty well-stocked for the city. You'll make compromises, but still be able to check off most items off your list or settle for Feta that's in cheese aisle and not higher quality that the deli usual carries. Good customer service. The employees are attentive to customers and available to answers questions. It's what you give you get back. You do bag your own groceries, but I think that's every grocery store in DC. There is also a nice cafe area with lots of booths by the windows. Free wifi and overlooks a side street. Two hour free parking, at metro and on several bus lines. Wanna fancy coffee? Starbucks is inside, and it seems popular cause you'll sometimes find a line. Need to pick up some flowers, a plant or balloons... they gotcha covered with a good selection and plenty of cards to choose from. Do go early on a Sunday if you want 2% Fage and the freshest vegetables. Broccoli goes quick! You'll have slim pickins the later the day goes on. Oh, and at back of the store, behind the produce, great selection of dried fruits and nuts. The best dried cranberries. You'll also find bins of grains etc. Can't say anything about the meat and fish selection, we mostly eat veggie and buy meat occasionally and usually from other markets. But I do believe they have organic meats.

Kinda small, needs to be renovated and possibly rebuilt to support the growth in the area.

This is a great grocery store. Compared to the one that is in a less gentrified neighborhood right up the street, its like heaven.

I've shopped here a dozen times, and they carry many items that you simply won't be able to find at a traditional grocery store. However it is somewhat more expensive for the average products like orange juice and milk. The larger grocery chains have better prices overall because they can buy their products wholesale for much less than a small grocery store such as this one. The shopping experience and the interior of the store itself is nearly identical as to what you would find in Mexico or Latin America. They have a decent meat and seafood section, and they also have the most basic produce items. The times that I have come here we're to purchase only a few items. Today I purchased a bag of oranges, and a half gallon of milk.

I always see employees and managers stocking and cleaning during EVERY visit that I make; especially in produce, which is a welcome sight you don't see in many bigger stores. Even during the height of the DC Shut Down at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic response, this store kept up with demand. Bleach, detergents, ammonia, cleaning supplies and other "newly" in-demand staples remained in good supply, even when the large chain stores were sold out for weeks. The produce department is VERY good, and their prices on produce cannot be beat, even when considering the convenience of the store might lead you to think they would be tempted to over charge like CVs or 7/11. They don't. In fact, we specifically buy our potatoes, peppers, tomatoes, onions, and just about every Caribbean and Asian spice you might want, from this store. I have become an addict to Serrano and jalapeño peppers and cook them in almost everything now. Seriously, we will never again put up with spoiled produce from Amazon and Giant/PeaPod deliveries when this store is 1 block from home. They sell almost every imaginable type of fresh and hard cheeses for Central American cuisine. Seriously, there's 10 types and brands of queso fresco, crema, and frying cheese--it's all there and well represented. They also have good household items. I buy the large outdoor incense sticks here (3 for $1)--our front porch stays fragrant and crisp, which is very pleasant in the summer! Need a mini molcajete to make guacamole? They've got you covered. Looking for fresh caught, whole fish (red snapper, whiting, trout) that they will cut and clean on demand? Done. Do you love getting live blue crabs--they frequently have those during the summer. Of course, like any store, everything isn't perfect. I am a bit underwhelmed about the deli cases (lunch meat and sausage), but that's just a personal issue because I am extremely picky about selection and freshness. However, it is all suitable if you're in a pinch. If you want a HUGE selection of dried beans, rice, corn meals, corn flours, and canned goods--you're in luck! Over all, I'm a huge fan of this store. Very happy it's just around the corner in my neighborhood!

I love the eclectic feel and the friendly, personable staff. It's generally clean and organized even if the layout is hard to follow. I appreciate the variety of ingredients I can get here, from fresh nopales to cashew milk to tamarind to canned ackee. The huge number of fresh tortillas, both flour and corn, is also awesome. The only thing that would make Avenue better is a more diverse selection--it's missing some basics like nuts and tofu and fresh herbs (besides cilantro and parsley). If those gaps were filled this would be my regular grocery store!
