*****beware, they sell EXPIRED BABY FOOD****** My wife purchased a good quantity of the Gerber baby food for my 7 month old son, this morning as I started to feed him I noticed that it was starting to get a little chunky towards the center of the small container, it didn't look right, so my first thought was to check on the expiration, date and it showed that it was expired as of December 2018!!!!! Almost 6 months ago. Anyways I called my baby's doctor and I'm just keeping a close watch on my baby to make sure he does t develop any symptoms. I then proceeded to go to this store and I checked some of the baby food they had on their shelves cause I thought my case was a special case, perhaps they've left one package get through their QC. But no, they still had expired food on the shelves.... I spoke to the manager and I was informed that Safeway checks their food "every month". Now, I don't know what this means but it it gives me the impression that they have checked their baby foods once a month since December of last year, that's 6 months!! 6 times they have let this happen hoping no one would call them on their negligence. And I say negligence because, once, honest mistake, twice...carelessness, but 6 times is just full blown negligence. And with BABY FOOD? Unacceptable. I also sent them an email through their app, and It got kicked back because apparently their mailbox is full. Which means they don't check their customers feedback emails which means they don't care about their customers feedback. I'm writing this review more so to warn customers. Make sure you double check the dates on everything. I've come home more then once only to find out I've bought food that was expired and I'm not talking about by a few days some have been months past the expiration date. Been coming here since it was SaveMart many years ago. My how it's gone downhill. Sacrificing checkers for self-checkout which doesn't seem to help long lines at all, never carts in front or hand baskets by the door, they got rid of a lot of items that we regularly bought and just don't stock them anymore , if it wasn't so close to home I'd have given up on it by now. A lot of the staff are nice and there's a few mostly the ones that have been there for a while that do a great job but man... I hate leaving bad reviews but now tonight I left an item on accident, we called and they said they put it back, well they put it back on the shelf (an item already paid for) and now we have to choose something else or a refund since they sold it and don't have any more. I'm sure the staff goes through a lot because of where it is located, but when you are a patron who regularly spends 200+ dollars each visit with a normal shopping temperament and expectation (shop, buy food, leave store) you don't expect to be treated like a disease. Jesus. I was just there with my friend who was buying wine and other odds and ends. Her drivers license was expired so the clerk (Felicitas) said she couldn't buy the alcohol--fair enough. She said I was just over by the icecream looking around and that she would go grab me to buy the items. Look, we are both in our 30's so it's hard for me to understand why this would be a problem. The cashier was beyond rude to my friend and when she went to grab me 10 ft away, when I returned I had to get back in line. Still not that big of a deal. It was when I told her I was there to buy the groceries that she treated me like a criminal and had some huge issue with me. Most of my hair is grey and I gave her my valid Divers license--so what was the problem? One thing to note is that my friend and I are obviously queer, so it would be really unfortunate if this was just blatant homophobia. I guess Safeway doesn't want our gay monies? I asked the butcher if he can cut my whole chicken in half, he responds to me, " they don't like us doing that extra work for things on sale". I say, so that's not offered anymore? He says, I'll do it this time. Then I proceed to ask him, can it be cut in several pieces, and he responds you just asked me to cut it in half. I put the chicken back and walked away. People like this have no right to work in retail or in public. I thought as a consumer whatever I request, it shouldn't be questioned... obviously not at this Safeway. I made the horrible mistake of ordering a pre-cooked TGD turkey with 'fixings'. It was DISGUSTING. I ended up throwing everything away except the turkey which I will ground up and feed to my dog. The so-called mashed potatoes were nothing but unmixed water with some white stuff like glue on the bottom, into the trash it went. The dressing tasted like wall paper and the so-called gravy was the wall paper paste, into the trash they went. The cranberries were passable only because they were so sweet that no other taste could be determined............however they went into the trash as well. The turkey was tasteless and dry. It took the spot of our loved Savemart years ago... but I always come here when I'm in a pickle... mm pickles.. heh Last night at 11:47 my sister needed some antihistamines.. ONE THING.. So I put on shoes and socks and drive as fast as I can and get there at 11:55... and the main double doors are locked.. and the loudspeaker says "we're now closed"... and it's not even midnight yet... The cashiers/baggers look at me and shrug.. BUT IT"S NOT EVEN MIDNIGHT!! ughhhhhhhhhh. All we needed was a fix of some benadryl because her hand had swollen up with a reaction to something.. and my trusty neighborhood grocer.. CLOSED 5 MINUTES EARLY! /sigh.. What a letdown.. This has got to be the most obnoxious Safeway I've been too! The workers are rude & are NOT quick to help you, unless they think your stealing something. You'll wait more than 10 minutes to get helped in the Deli section. Today 11/14, I waited in the self checkout line thinking the lady in front of me was checking out, but no she was watching a young black lady checking out & kept pointing out to her everything in the basket that needed to be scanned. The older white lady that was watching her had another worker, an Asian women, go up to the young black lady checking out and telling her the same thing as well. Than proceeded to tell the lady they were going to get her another basket to make sure everything gets scanned and put into the basket. That was the most racial profiling I've seen in my life! I told the ladies she didn't need to watch her every move like that & she didn't need another basket. It was harassment to its fullest! I hope the Asian lady & the older white lady workers get fired or disciplined for their obnoxious behavior towards the young black lady they were harassing! The older white lady has an attitude problem, I've seen her attitude plenty of time I've been in there! Wish there was more staffing at this location which would allow for more registers to be open when lines are 10+ each. Having 1-2 of the self-checkout machines down also contributes to their wait time. Although this Safeway is closest to my house, I end up grocery shopping at other cities when I'm passing through (ex. Hercules, Pleasant Hill) since they have shorter waits. read more

Rarely do I take the time to make a compaint at the front of the store, but tonight I did. The dairy cases were absolutely disgusting. Not milk spill in the last 24 hours, but filthy like they hadn't been cleaned in weeks. Temperature was low as well, with the cartons of milk cool, not cold. Newsflash Safeway: You are more expensive than Walmart and Costco by far.....we come for the convenience, but I expect a quality product. I wanted to comment on a cashier's super helpful assistance on using the Safeway app. Darla went out of her way to walk me through the app and assisted in me saving approximately $40.00$ on my receipt. Darla was wonderful and has restored my confidence in customer service. I might add, 5 mins earlier, I had asked for assistance from another employee and was told they didn't know anything about the Safeway app, and wouldn't recommend it anyway. read more

Safeway will never hire enough people to serve their customers, which is why it looks like the fall of Saigon every time I'm in there. Today we waited for half an hour, and the entire time, the woman in front of us had no mask on. And the cashier never said a damn thing. This place is ALWAYS understaffed. It doesn't matter what time of day. If you go first thing in the morning, you're likely to find the shelves still aren't stocked. Boxes and pallets are still in the middle of the aisles hours into them being open. There are never enough courtesy clerks, never enough checkers, self-checkout machines are usually broken, etc. Also, be careful where you park your car. The lack of clerks means carts are all over the lot. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. read more

The worst safeway deli of all time. I live 1 block away, been coming here for years now. I give up. There has only been 1 person on the last year who can make a sandwich or burrito without literally throwing everything on it, or making it impossible to eat. Of course every time I come he's not there (can't remember his name). Today, i ordered 2 burritos, she put tortillas directly on the counter (supposed to be on the wax paper), I asked for bell peppers, she put on jalapeño. She didn't cut anything at all (full rounds of tomatoes, full potato wedges, huge rings of bell peppers...), by the time she was attempting to roll them it was impossible, even though there really wasn't much on there. I ended up not purchasing them and went to benicia Safeway instead. Every other person that works in the deli has similar issues (except the ONE guy i mentioned). Why is it so hard to make a freaking sandwich or burrito? One last thing, they are almost ALWAYS out of chicken strips. No matter what time or day. read more

Pleasant shopping experience today when I went to pick up stuff for banana bread. Truthfully, I felt a little manic when I walked in, feeling the urge to BUY STUFF. Maybe it was the air conditioning, maybe it was just my really good mood. But I was on a mission. They had everything I needed (which they should have). And the people working there were all pretty cheerful. But Safeway is expensive! $5 for butter? Man! Of the three Safeway locations in Vallejo, this is the one where I can feel most relaxed. Mostly it has to do with the size of the place. The stores on Admiral Callaghan and Lincoln Road always seem tight and cramped with lines that extend out into the middle of shopping aisles. Like every other parking lot in Vallejo, this place can be a little nerve wracking, but if you turn up the music really loud, close your eyes, and push the gas pedal really hard, things tend to work out fine. read more

I stopped by Safeway on Robles yesterday to use the wells fargo atm. It was probably around 3 or 4pm, and I was hoping that I would find parking easily and get in and out. When I pulled up into the parking lot there was a car backing out right in front for the "VIP parking," or "Playa parking," or my cousin calls it "Princess parking." So I parked right in front of the store and went in. Score! No line to use the atm. Mission complete..But then I turn around and the place is packed and crowded with shoppers with only 3 registers open. The deli had a line at least 6 deep. Pretty busy, pretty crazy. Hats off and 3 stars for the people working the registers and the deli that have to deal with all the madness, brought by daily shoppers, every single day. Keep up the good work. read more

Safeway - What a mess. - Grocery Near Me - Vallejo, California

I live less than a mile from this Safeway, so convenience is the only reason I shop here. As noted by others: - Cashiers routinely walk away from the self-check area, causing even further delays when there's a problem with scanning. Most (but not all) of the cashiers make no effort to keep this area moving smoothly. The long wait time is amplified by at least one of the self-check registers always being down. - This is no fault of Safeway, but the self-check customers at this store are overwhelmingly self-centered and inconsiderate: cutting in line, moving like snails, being distracted with cell phone calls, staring in confusion at the point-of-sale screen and failing to have sufficient funds to pay for their purchases. - From 5:00 to 7:00 PM weekdays, lines are extremely long because of the limited number of cashiers and slow movement through the self-check area. The store is even more understaffed after 8:00 PM - avoid this store for late night shopping. - Even though I pass right by on my way to work, I no longer shop here in the early morning (6:00-8:00 AM). At that hour, stocking shelves is the only priority for Safeway employees. Recently, I waited at the only open register for over five minutes, while the store manager kept calling over the intercom for a cashier... never occurred to her to open another register or even to apologize for the wait. I gave up - left my food on the belt and stopped at the Concord store. Due to location, this store is always busy, so I assume profits are insanely high. Management and employees really don't have to care about customer service and it shows. Recent experiences over the past 3 weeks have caused me to drop my rating to 1-star. Sorry to say, Walmart gets more and more of my business. read more

My family & I came to this Safeway's floral department to pick up bouquets for a funeral. We walked in at about 4:45pm. As we first walked into floral, we did see an older woman assisting some customers, standing behind the counter & packaging bouquets. We thought she would still be there when we needed assistance- we were wrong. Right when it was time we needed help, that woman behind the floral counter was gone. Disappeared. Didn't even ask if we needed help, yet she was aware we were there. And never came back. We waited a few minutes for some help. Still nothing. My husband walked up to the register to ask if someone could help us, as we needed several bouquets cut & put together. He was told someone would be there. We still waited. My mom then approached another younger female, who said she doesn't work in floral but she'll try to help. She attempted to open the flower packages but stopped and said she would get someone else. Another male worker stood next to her explaining 4 staff had called in sick, but he was of no help either, as he too walked away & disappeared. It was already 5:20pm. We had waited a total of 35 minutes so far. I was going to give Safeway 1 star. But then a very nice gentleman, Naje rushed over to us and apologized for the long wait. He put together the most beautiful bouquets. Naje was very professional, courteous, very nice & did an amazing job on our bouquets. Thank you Naje for great customer service. read more

I'm a big fan of this Safeway. I've shopped here for nearly 15 years. The only thing keeping me from rating it 5 stars is that ever since they put in the self check stations the lines have been ridiculous. That was a few years ago. It's never been the same. I think this Safeway had the best in stock and friendliest and most efficient cashiers of any I have been to. Kevin is an involved manager who keeps his team on top of in stocks and the store is clean and well lit. I have a list of favorites at this location by department. And each one of these folks will wow you with their service: Michael in floral Leo and Ben in Seafood Paul in the meat dept Beth, Lina, and Jasmine up front And the produce manager will special order what you may not see. I don't use their pharmacy, deli, or bakery frequently but I'm sure they are very good. If you want to buy groceries in Vallejo, you're seriously limited. We don't have any Whole Foods, Andronico's, or even Trader Joe's around. Until we do, this particular Safeway location is your best bet. You can of course drive to Benicia and find some good grocery stores. Still, this particular Safeway location stocks some decent cheese selections, is one of the few places where I've found *fresh* lemon grass, and has also quite a respectable selection of spirits. They're missing an olive bar and their deli is kind of sad... The fish counter, though, is adequate. If you're comparing to Andronico's or Whole Foods, you'll be disappointed. However, compared to the other Safeway locations in the neighborhood, this one beats them all by far! read more

This was my favorite Safeway, until recently. With all the new employees nobody knows anything. The deli is always a nightmare. Several times I have had to go behind the counter to find someone. Last week I wanted a sandwich for my husband. Pastrami on rye. Waited for someone to show up for about 5 minutes. Finally I place my order and he didn't have any rye. So he left to go get some. He was gone forever and came back empty handed and said he couldn't find it. I told him to forget it and left. It took everything I had not to grab a loaf and throw it at him as I walked by. i usually stop by Safeway to buy a breakfast sandwich and today was just horrible. I had five people with me and we ordered two sandwiches and three breakfast burritos they took almost 30 minutes taking our order and when they were done they over charged us by charging more things than they bought. my friends that got the breakfast burritos said that told them that they didn't have potato wedges. like how do you not have potato wedges. and then when they started eating the burrito THE EGG WAS COLD like come on if you're gonna already not put the potato wedges at least make the burrito good read more

A review of a grocery store? Have you lost it? Well, for the time being, this is the best of grocery shopping that we have here in Vallejo. The staff is friendly and the beer is cold. The problem usually exists in the produce department. Now I understand that this has to be the most challenging of all of the departments. That being said, it doesn't really count as being well stocked if what you have is rotting away on the shelf. Is it too much trouble to throw away the rotten produce? This safeway is always packed after 9am. Sometimes it gets inundated with ghetto/homeless/red neck/ meth crack heads, so becareful in the parking lot and inside. Theres always 1 or 2 cashiers present And a long line that wraps around. Its pretty interesting people watching inside. It reminds me of the people at walmart. read more
