Fine for groceries but watch your receipt closely. 9/10 times you are over charged. And DO NOT order a custom cake. Their bakery makes pretty cakes in the display so i felt safe ordering a simple cake for a birthday over 2 weeks in advance. Showed up to pick up cake and they have no proof of order and no cake. No one knows where the order binder is kept. Now were off to a surprise 75th birthday with a two small unmatching cakes. Lesson learned. read more

Safeway is a massive rip off with bad management, or oh ya is that Ambiance or ambulance, the second one may apply. Over priced and constant screw up at the cash register with failed discounts not being registered and the over charge being passed on to the customer with zero remorse by the checkers. I went to Safeway today and used self checkout. I needed help as I double scanned something not only did it take the self checkout attendant 10 minutes to acknowledge me she was also extremely rude. Prices are too high but it seems we pay for convenience. I wish they'd get rid of rewards, two-fers, digital coupons which never work and simply offer lower prices across the board. For everyone - including those who don't have time to rummage through ads or scrounging through a web site. I've yet to have a "digital coupon" actually work without the cashier looking it up. The other thing I hate is navigating the gridlock of the carts in the way while they gather up stuff for delivery or pickup. Why don't you just move those services to a central fulfillment center and call it Safe-azon. On the plus side - the store is clean and the regular staff have always been pleasant and helpful, And kudos on the clean restrooms. Most grocery stores and pharmacies have gross restrooms - and people using them are handling the stuff we buy. read more

As usual, Safeway is top notch in the grocery biz. This store was spotless and organized. All items I saw were clearly priced. Displays were attractive. Posters and signs looked new. The store was well lit. Carts were readily available. Produce, baked goods, and meats looked fresh. There was a wide variety of items to choose from. I had no trouble finding all the items I was looking for. There was plenty of lot parking. Staff were friendly. read more

Safeway is always the place to come for a variety of foods! It seems this is the only place I can find manchego cheese and other specialty thing s when I need them. This safeway however had a ton of flies in the bread and produce section. I'm just happy it wasn't on the inside of any of the prepared food there. If you get veggies and fruits here make sure you wash them good. read more

I think they watch me on camera and are hiding it from me. :) Very clean topnotch store and staff always help a step away at the self-checks. You can find some great deals if you go all out each aisle and they carry the high end stuff you need when you want it. If your lucky you'll catch me there smiling. I am So disgusted as I love the safeway pharmacy but... Employees in seafood counter and bagging had masks just hanging below chin and employees wiping down carts not wearing at all. I counted 4 customers Not wearing masks as covid cases in Az skyrocket today June 29 Last friday June 26 I was there and a 1/4 customers weren't wearing and management does nothing about this ! I never thought I would write a review of a grocery store BUT I love this store. It is new, HUGE and amazing, oh and it is the closest grocery store for those of us who live out in the sticks. They have everything from a pharmacy, to a bakery, to a hot food section to a nice big in-store Starbucks. There are a couple of things I really love about this location. 1. they have this local items section of goods 2. the hot food/deli area is fantastic Now I hear peeps saying their prices are high... but so be it, you don't have to drive ten minutes farther now to go to Fry's (and I do love Rita Ranch Fry's) or buy super expensive necessities at Walgreen's. read more

Very nice and clean store with presentable staff that are very helpful. Would give it a 5 star if they had a self check out, my fave. Prices are a little higher than other grocery stores, but that is typical for a Safeway. Their meats are always top of the line and if you catch products on sale you can get a good discount. Another reason I only gave them a 4 star, is because the manager himself set me up with a new Safeway account on opening day, instead of using my old one, and then when I went to go use the new account at a different Safeway it didn't work. So I'm back to using my old one with my old phone number (which I don't have anymore lol) so someone else is getting my rewards. Will keep checking back for good deals often. read more

The employees are all wearing masks. They always have an employee wiping down the carts and hand baskets near the entrance. Dennis, Jessica and Emalee, at the pharmacy, are always courteous and very attentive due to the COVID-19 regs. Adam and Robert in the seafood department are phenomenal, as are the selections! This joint is such a scam , They should rename it SCAMWAY because that's all it is !! I had the app on my phone, thats another scam, they take stuff off mid week so I dumped it !! The items that they have on sale never ring up that way and it's a fight to get the sale prices. Further if you have a paper coupon the checkers are not allowed to give you that price if you do not tell them to scan the coupon. It's a typical Safeway/Albertsons/Randall's/Von's grocery store. The employees all look overworked and exhausted. The prices are a bit high and oftentimes they run out of bread, pasta, ramen noodles, soda, salads and yogurts. I imagine that it's hard to keep the shelves stocked considering that this is the only store in the area (besides the Fry's on Houghton 10-15 min away) . I'll take this place over Fry's any day though. I might pay a little more here but at least it's not a madhouse like the Houghton Fry's. read more

The Vail Safeway is the best Safeway store I've been to anywhere in Arizona and I've lived in Phoenix, Tucson and now Sierra Vista. The meat department staff are superstars in their industry and do an amazing job. Just take a look at their meat display or ask for a special order and you will see what I mean. You often see the store manager walking around the store actively involved in what's going on and the check out people are friendly. It's the Safeway all other Safeways need to aspire to from what I've experienced and I want to give credit to the deserving team that makes that happen at the Vail Safeway. Thank you! read more

Ignore all the haters and losers... I'm so glad it's here, I don't care if it costs more. Which it does. As much as I enjoyed driving 30 minutes to Fry's with the kids jack-hammering the back of my seat, I'm willing to make the sacrifice. Besides just being closer, it actually is better than the other Safeways. The lines are short, for one thing, and the store is surprisingly uncongested. They also have four unisex bathrooms. I can see some of you rolling your eyes from here, but my son has special needs and I'm starting to detect some shade from the other ladies in the restroom when we stroll in together. There's a Starbucks inside. There's a lot of booze. I wish they had a Clicklist, though. I can dream. read more

They still have some kinks to work out. The one time I needed customer service, there was no one in sight. Being the resourceful person I am, I called the store and watched an employee respond to answer the phone. I explained I needed to return/exchange some ice cream and didn't want it to melt before he could get it back into the freezer. I followed him to the freezer, where he noted and laughed with me that the coffee ice cream was where the chocolate was supposed to be. I agree about their meats being excellent, especially the prime rib and shrimp. Not a big fan of their buffet. I do appreciate the convenience of the location, and it sure is easier to navigate the parking lot. Can't wait to see what they have in store for the holidays (Thanksgiving and Christmas). read more

I just moved to this neighborhood and love this Safeway. Has a Starbucks is a plus! Very nice wine, beer and liquor section. Their produce is awesome. Very fresh and beautiful. Nice organic section. A little boy by the name of Diego came to ID me at the self checkout for some alcohol. (I wasn't wearing makeup and I gained weight after having my baby) He says "this isn't you is it?" I get visibly upset because he's clearly saying I'm not as attractive as my picture. He then says it's because of my hair... which is just in a bun. This is nice place to shop when you don't want to drive into Rita Ranch to Fry's. It's clean and they usually have anything you need in the store. It's pretty expensive on the prices but I know that before walking in the door. I figure I'm paying for convenience. Also, the teenagers working are always entertaining. Sometimes they don't acknowledge you cause their talking but their teenagers. They tell you funny stories and I even caught one guy checking my butt out. So when I need a confidence booster and need something from the store why not come here?!? read more

So far so good! This location opened up a few weeks back and it's great! Clean, wide aisles with great customer service and a sufficient number of checkout lanes. The produce has been fresh, same as the hot food. There's even a Starbucks inside which this area so desperately needed. Overall, I frequent this location although I do feel that the prices are slightly higher than other Safeways. But I suppose it's the price you pay for convenience! read more

Selection of goods and layout is fine, hence the additional star. There's always room for improvement. Safeway (Vail) would get more stars if the management would train staff on customer service. My complaint is about the employees. Today, (2 Aug) I bought groceries. Upon checkout I was met with a young employee who was so interested in chit chatting with his three fellow young employees during my check out that he never greeted me, asked me if I found everything OK...nothing. He just jaw jacked with his fellow teen workmates the entire time as he scanned my items. My check out was much slower than I have ever experienced before in this store. Additionally, the young person bagging my groceries was so busy talking to his friend, the cashier, that he almost put another customers groceries in my cart. I didn't feel like I was a valued customer. Instead, I felt like just another 'old guy buying stuff'. I support teens working as they need to experience the work place and gain knowledge the responsibilities needed for their future. When a customer shows up in the store, employees need to show knowledge about the store layout and have a work ethic of paying attention to those customers so they will be a satisfied, returning customer. "Can I help you find something?", etc.. This all boils down to proper employee training. How employees act toward customers directly reflects the management style and that in turn reflects on how management thinks of their customers, which dictates whether I go to Safeway or Fry's. My wife experienced a similar situation when she asked for a specific type of item (batteries) and was led by four different people in four different directions most of whom simply pointed in the general direction without stating any specific aisle. When (If) I visit the store again, I will no longer enter a check out line where a young teen is the check out clerk. They have no concept of customer service and apparently neither does the manager as he/she doesn't know how to train their staff. I'd rather drive to Fry's. At least they greet you when you check out. BTW, this happened on multiple occasions, so it's not just a one off. Management needs to train ALL staff on customer service. read more

A great addition to the Vail area. Clean store with friendly workers. Prices are a little higher than Fry's, but not really that much if you use their rewards card (just like the frys card) and the just for u coupons. When they opened up I did price comparisons with Frys and found that for the most part the price differences were negligible and you save time and gas. I still utilize Fry's, but the added Safeway option has given me a kick in the pants to check both stores ads and websites and make lists prior to my shopping trip. Doing this has cut down on my grocery bill and the time it takes me to shop even stopping at both stores. read more

I was shopping in this store this morning with my daughter and needed help with customer service. The cashier that came over was very helpful but couldn't answer a question my daughter had so she went and got help from the customer service manager who's name is Dawn Elliot. This woman treated us with absolutely no respect , she was very rude and very condesending. We were not asking for a freebie of any sort just help with the question. Because of her my daughter and I will be shopping elsewhere. She should not be in customer service of any sort! read more
