I shop here and always have a good experience however....... I have a 4 year old that likes Pokemon cards There is a Pokemon vending machine at this location. If you are familiar with how they work they are time released items. Every single time we come in, there are staff buying from the machine or checking it non stop while working or in between bagging items for customers. My son and I finished our shopping and went to try and get a pack and an employee was buying packs, put them in their pocket, and went back to work, bagging a customers groceries. This seems extremely unfair as there is a no loitering policy and this would technically be loitering by the employees. Please do better, for the sake of the children that these cards are actually intended for. read more

crew sees me come thru all the time bc I work by this Safeway. not only do they always follow me around the store because im black, even though they see me pay all the time. they will literally come and stand next to me the wHOLE ENTIRE TIME IM CHECKING OUT. Their meat and produce is 1,000x better than Fry's (with their metallic meat and disgusting apeel vegetables). Their bakery is atrocious though. They cook dinner rolls and sell them as croissants (see pic). Other Safeways croissants don't look or taste like this. The self-checkout can be a bit scary. The ladies there will talk your head off while the lady who hangs tags will reach over your computer unit (as your scanning) the whole time to hang candy tags. I get it- I used to work FMC tags overnight too but these women are just scary. I'll still take this place over Freaky Fry's and WallyWorld any day though!! read more

Pharmacy is lacking in expertise and attentiveness. Bald pharmacist that obviously couldn't care less about helping people find what they need, needs a new mission in life. I came in for Advil sinus med, they were out, and when I asked the pharmacist what was comparable, he said, "all that stuff over there".... WTF????? I'm no med expert, but this is seriously erroneous and negligent on his part. Went to Walgreens across the street and got exactly what I needed. read more

While most of the employees are fantastic and provide great service, and the atmosphere is pleasant, there are other issues that leave a lackluster impression. Most of these issues are in the deli/bakery section. If you're planning on getting food to go, the experience is wildly uneven from one day to the next, depending on who is behind the counter. Also, one day, they'll have the hot soups ready to go, and the next day you go, you'll have empty containers or, worse, full containers that are cold to the touch. If they had better consistency in this section, I would recommend the store, but you just never know what you'll get from day to day. read more

This location is always clean, and never has long lines. The staff there is always happy and friendly with the customers. These reasons are the only reason for the two stars provided. If you are in the store and attempt to add coupons to your card, they will not attach! Store employees are aware of this being an issue, but not much they can do. The last several times I have gone, the items from the bakery and the fruit department have all been expired! I didn't think that with a store as pricey as Safeway, that I would have to be vigilant on checking expiration dates!!! I will never buy from their bakery or fruit departments again! I have never been in a Safeway any where else that had such horrible departments with expired foods. They should probably just do themselves a favor and shut down those two departments! I have noticed within the last 30 days the demeanor and attitude of the employees has markedly improved. Customers are now greeted well and a friendly atmosphere seems to exist. I also notice the average age of the present employees is considerably younger than what it used to be. I prefer Fry's on Houghton & Rita Rd. At this Safeway, you can't choose your own portions at the snack bar. Sometimes a tiny box of chocolate pretzels is not enough, but two is too many. Also, Fry's has Tortilla Land tortillas and better produce/fish/meat in my opinion. read more

Donny in the meat department is amazing. I actually go to this location from Sierra Vista because Safeway usually has meat on sale for a dollar a pound less in Tucson and I go to Tucson regularly. This location is not far off I -10 and also not far from a dog park (yes my two pups love going for a ride especially when I'm making a meat run) and I've found Donny to be fantastic in accommodating my requests and really a friendly person as well. If the world had more people like Donny, we'd be way better off! Hats off to Donny and the East Valencia Safeway meat department! read more

Bought some items a few days ago for jacuzzi. Realized they were for pools. Went to return them to another Safeway. They would not return them bc they didn't vary the product. Said I had to return them to the original store I bought it from. So, I drove all the way across town to return them only to find out that any items over $5 requires receipt. If that's ur policy fine, but tell me before I drive across town. Also, what major store chain does that?! Maybe over $50, but $5 is obnoxious. Poor consistency in customer service. read more

Safeway at Bear Canyon. This is a quick stop store. Not for major shopping. Prices are high and the choice minimal. Yesterday I was there picking up a few things. I was behind an older man. There was a woman checking out. The checker talked and talked and finished and still talked. Long enough that the old man turned around and told me a long dumb joke. We chatted and the checker finally got around to serving him. The elapse was about 8 or 9 min. She was an older checker. Late 60's probably, dark hair. Mona may have been her name. She was snotty to the old man. Then he wanted to give me his monopoly tickets. The checker just stood there with her had out and the tickets. The old man took them and gave me the receipt. I said not the blue things, he was confused and the checker still stood there with her hand out. By this time I spoke up and said I will take the tickets, he gets the receipt. She still stood there with her hand out. WTH. Finally in a clipped attitude she announced, "I can ONLY give them to him." Finally he gave me everything, I took the tickets and he left with his receipt. I guess I pissed her off because she was downhill from there. Rang me up, never making eye contact and all my things piled up on the conveyor. She never attempted to pack anything. Just stood there. Finally I started packing my own groceries. She put a melon in a bag...very slowly. I finished, put everything in my cart and left. Time for her to retire! read more

This is pretty much the closest store to my house, so I've been going there for years for grocery basics. It's easy to find things, the staff is helpful, and overall, not bad at all for a supermarket. Unfortunately, when I headed over to pick up some allergy medicine at 11ish on a Sunday night, I was robbed as I got in my car. The parking lot for the whole shopping complex, McDonald's and all, was completely dead, so it was easy for two guys to drive up next to me, wave a gun in my face, and demand my purse before squealing off into the night. OK neighborhood, but next to no traffic in the evenings, so despite the good lighting in the lot, they had no problems causing trouble. Granted, it's not Safeway's fault, it could happen anywhere, I suppose, but I will definitely be shopping elsewhere-- somewhere busier, most likely-- if I need to pick up groceries after dark. read more

This was Rita Ranch's first grocery store and it's still an adequate and serviceable supermarket. The parking lot rarely overflows with traffic and there are always parking spots available relatively close to the enterance. The problem lies with the setup of the store. For starters, it's minuscule in comparison with most other Safeway locations and there are only a small handful of checkout stations; none of which are self-service. When it does get busy in there, it takes forever to shop and the checkout lines become absurdly long. Grocery stores or competitive with one another and always claim to have the lowest prices, but if Safeway ever makes that claim, they are flat-out lying to you. But what makes this supermarket passable is the quality of the vast majority of their products. At 4 pm daily, they put the most delicious fresh French bread out on the shelves in the bakery and the quality of their produce is difficult to beat. In comparison to any nearby grocery store, you come here to avoid foot traffic and for a better quality product (for the most part). You won't be blessed with elite customer service or low prices and during the more active shopping periods of the year, it can be a hassle to get around. Still, there is no reason to go out of your way to avoid this place and if you want impeccible bakery goods and produce, Safeway in Rita Ranch may be the place for you. read more

I have always like this Safeway...that is until approximately 6 months ago. Checking out is a nightmare. Never enough checkers and then when you do try to check out they try to get you to contribute to every cause on the planet. I think that it should be enough when you slide your debit card if you say yes or no..... In addition, I tried the delivery service. Loved it! However, the second time I tried to do it, what a nightmare. They now go thru "Instacart." I tried to retrieve my previous order, but wasn't able to. Then when I tried to order some things that are seasonal, they directed me to Fry's. Well, if I wanted to go to Fry's I wouldn't be ordering home delivery. However, I am now seriously considering using Fry's for home delivery, or when Amazon opens up full-time here.....from them. I don't typically order meat or fresh veggies for delivery. Those are items that I go shop for. However, canned/boxed food, pet food, laundry soap ect....I buy on-line. Safeway is probably going to go the way that several other stores before them have gone. I used to love grocery shopping, however over the past few years, it's not fun. No one to help you find what you are looking for. Increased prices. Poor inventory. And to top it off the cashiers are exhausted. Obviously, they aren't being given their breaks....Shame on you Safeway. read more

I had to go into Safeway because Frys didn't have what we needed fo pickup. The carts were cleaned, only one jerk customer not wearing a mask. Frys pickup hasn't been good and it has plenty of bare faces. A employee had his hands full still asked if I needed help find something. He not only tells the aisle, but the standing on one foot uses the other to point on the direction. I think I may be a Safeway customer now. read more

The grocery store needs to be updated, Several times I have asked vegetable produce manager to put FRESH products out. I refuse to purchase produce that I would throw out. Sometimes they are willing to help/ others times NO help-what's on the shelf is all u get. Today I tried theStarbucks kiosk. Was kept waiting several minutes while the ONE staff member working made 3 other drinks ,refilled ice machine, washed containers , chatted to passing persons. I guess if your a regular here service Not so bad. I will never pay for coffee at this kiosk again. And the grocery store better improve or I'm shopping else where Sooner rather than later. I usually go a little out of my way to come here, because I don't live in Rita Ranch. Why would I do something like that when there is a Fry's a lot closer and the Commisary on base is convenient and both are cheaper? Simple, the Commisary annoys the shit out of me with all of the retirees trudging through there and the Fry's on Irvington scares the shit out of me. Most people say that a Safeway is the same no matter where you go, and this is mostly true, but I'd put this one 2 steps above the Safeway on Golf Links and Wilmont and a step below the Safeway on Tanque Verde and Bear Canyon. I put it just below the latter for one simple reason: they do not have a consistent supply of ground bison at their meat department. I'm a bison whooore and if I can't find it when I want it, I get cranky. Lately this Safeway has bumped up its beer selection by adding in O'Dell IPA and a few Deschutes selections (mainly Black Butte Porter and Red Chair NWPA) so good on them for that. As for price, you ultimately get what you pay for here, I'm willing to pay a little extra to no almost run a retiree over at the Commisary or get shot/stabbed at the Fry's on Irvington. read more

I came here to purchase a balloon for a co-worker. After looking around and not seeing what I wanted, I headed to the floral counter. There was a woman behind the counter and right in front of me. She was working on something. I stood there and stood there and she never looked up. I was trying to be respectful of what she was doing, so I waited. Eventually, I decided to initiate conversation. I said "hi" and she still didn't look up. By this time, someone else was behind me waiting and when I said "hi" and the woman behind the counter didn't respond, they said hi to me. It was pretty funny. Eventually, I gave up and walked away empty handed. The couple behind me moved up and she started talking to them. I was blown away! While I was being rung up by the main cashier at the front, someone walked away from the service desk empty handed because the cashier helping me called more than three times for help while also attending to her line and nobody showed up. They finally showed up after the client left. Ridiculous! read more

We always like Safeway. The store is smaller then the larger Fry's in the neighborhood and it is easier to find what you want with out all the crowds. We also prefer there flower and balloon selection. The employees are great and always friendly. We also like the US Bank on the inside. read more

The cashier named Breanna was extremely rude to me and my family. She threw the groceries and had very horrible disposition. She threw my mothers bag of chips so hard the chips inside were crumbled. It's very sad that Safeway would hire such a horrible person that would be intentionally be rude to us when we're nothing but polite. I have given this store a few tries & always end up being disappointed. In Virginia the Safeway stores are great & their produce is top notch! I spoke with another person who said the Safeways in California are great but the Safeway in Rita Ranch is awful! It's definitely not up to standards here in Rita Ranch. We bought 3 bowls of cut up watermelon & pineapple. The watermelon was subpar & had a lot of rind in it while the pineapple was juiceless & tart. We also bought some ambrosia salad at the deli which was awful & basically coconut. We buy the ambrosia at Fry's often & it is awesome! My Mom who isn't picky didn't like the fruit or ambrosia salad. This Safeway is way overpriced for the items they choose to sell as produce & other stuff. I've been to Aldi's back in Illinois & their produce was always way better than anything this Safeway sells & for way less. The parking lot is typically empty. In my opinion this shortcomings reflects on their manager who obviously doesn't care about the store. Fry's is typically crowded & their parking lot is full which tells me the preference is here is Fry's due to Safeway's shortcomings. If this Safeway was comparable to Safeways elsewhere there wouldn't be a problem. I wonder if this Safeway is aware of all of their complaints. If they think it's because there is another grocery store so close & it's easier access they really need to assess the situation thoroughly. Even their in store Starbucks has issues. If you want to be a manager, be a leader & take care of your store instead of being lazy letting your employees get away with things such a poor food sanitation & ordering the subpar produce so you can mark it up 400%. read more

This Safeway is so much better than Frys down the street. Way better parking. The carriage returns are better located. The prices are a bit higher but I will pay it for the convenience and service. The staff are always helpful. The produce is great. The meats are good. I can special order anything. I don't need a superstore that makes me walk a mile for a gallon of milk. I shop for all of my meat here. I eat lots of salmon and their pre cut salmon is always fresh. I occasionally will buy steak when it's on sale. My favorite is when the Primo Taglio meat goes on sale for five dollars on Fridays. They also are the only place that carries sprouts out of the three grocery stores in my area. The only complaint I have is that their prices are a little high and I do the majority of my shopping at other stores to save money. read more
