Lisa at self check out is amazing! Her patience with me is phenomenal. I'm always asking for help and she is always right there. I went to the Fry's at 8080 S Houghton Rd., to go grocery shopping with my two young daughters (ages 1 and 4.) It was a large shopping trip, which is a pretty overwhelming venture, hauling your two busy children with you. I went to go find a checkout line, several were busy (at least 3-4 customers per line), when I stumbled across one completely open lane. It seemed odd to me that I should find one totally empty while the others were backed up, was it my lucky day or was I misinterpreting the situation? She had some papers in her hand so I thought she could possibly be closing down or counting the drawer, so I asked, "are you open?", and she nodded yes. As I began to load my stuff, crying baby in my cart, and a 4 year old asking for candy, I heard her say to the cashier in the lane behind her, "this chick just asked if my lane was open, my light is on like, no I'm not open." Giggling and rolling her eyes, I was struck. I finished unloading my cart on the belt, my heart started to pound and I could feel the heat in my face: she full blown mocked me to another employee, in front of a busy line of other customers, and the other cashier (I wish I had clocked her name) was giggling to herself in the other lane. They were openly mocking me in the front of the store, in front of others, while I struggled with a full cart and fussing babies. The cashier's name was Jasmine. I still can't believe it. I informed her that I could hear her and explained why I had asked the "stupid question" in the first place: not because I was unintelligent but because I was being courteous, making sure she was ready. Smirking, she continued to scan my items, no apology, no remorse in her face. I informed her that I was going to tell a manager to which she replied, "go ahead, that doesn't scare me." She tossed me my receipt, still smirking, and I went to report it to the male manager on duty. He had informed me that this was not the first time they had had issues with this particular cashier. in the fluster, she didn't scan my Fry's card or my coupons, so now I have to go back, or maybe I'll send my husband because I don't wanna go in there anymore. Once I got all my groceries and my kids in my car, I had to sit there for several minutes and calm down so that I could drive home safely. The cortisol response in my body caused me to break out in hives all over my chest and neck. See attached photo. I'm not one to raise alarm for such things, I tend to let people be, we all have reasons to be cranky from time to time. But this seemed almost cruel to me. The jeering, the complete lack of customer service, the pure unkindness. What if I had been an older person, or someone with a brain injury, or someone with depression? What kind of impact could this have had? Luckily I am sound, and yet it still derailed the rest of my day. And the sad question is, does anything ever get done about these sort of things? Every time I go into this Fry's I remember why I don't shop here. Rude, rude, rude. The guy in the meat department was angry at me for having the nerve to ask if they had any of the ground turkey that was on sale. He let me know in no uncertain terms that no, they did not. He told me to come back later, as if I'm crazy enough to go back for a second round of rude - no thanks. Then I had to deal with the guy at the self check out, who finally realized that no matter what a jerk he was being to me, I'd decided to be nice. He was nice at the end of the exchange - kudos to him for that. One review says that the Safeway parking lot is empty while the Fry's lot is full. The self checkout lanes are starting to feel like Walmart. I bought 12 items today and one of those items was a bag of cherries. The self checkout lanes are never great with reusable bags, so I don't know if that triggered it or if it was the item itself but I had to stand there while the employee reviewed all my items and the video replay of my purchase to make sure I scanned my cherries. ​ This is the latest incident, but more and more it feels like Frys assumes you're stealing until proven otherwise. read more

The deli department needs better customer service. I was the only person standing at the counter and two employees behind the counter gave me eye contact but did not acknowledge me. I left and came back and asked a different person behind the counter if the deli was closed and he said no and said someone could help so I told him I was there before etc. So the first guy that ignored me previously said he was busy with the food and I said ok but you could have said that earlier and he told the lady that was about to come over if I do not have a number not to wait on me! The absolute nerve!! I said I did not bc I was the only one there and waited for a while. She came anyway and I told her that was ok (bc now I don't trust the counter) and said thank you and went straight to customer service. As with most grocery stores, it's clean, nice ambiance and lots of parking. $2.99 for a small head of lettuce? After finding the partially obscured price, I left my empty cart in the aisle and walked right out . Crazy. On my way home I stopped at Safeway on Mary Ann Cleveland and got "giant" heads of beautiful lettuce for $1.89 each. Equal to about two heads at Fry's. Don't fall for their woke commercials. It's a scam. Same goes for pet treats and items. The only reason I go there 4 times a year is because their pharmacy service has always been excellent. So 5 stars for pharmacy and 1 star for grocery prices, thus the 3 stars. I don't do the weekly grocery shopping but know now if I did, I wouldn't be going here. I'm not sure if all Fry's stores are equally priced, I just know from experience this one seems overly priced. I guess people are just getting used to Biden and Harris's outrageous inflation. This place actually had rotten produce in the produce department. Trying to sell it to people. This store has been on a continual downhill slide. Workers are all just standing around, baggers are nonexistent. Worst customer service ever. I waited 12 minutes for someone to pick up the phone. Finally, a female by the name of Vivian answers. She was the rudest person I have ever encountered in customer service. She was so rude I asked to speak to a manager. Surprisingly she stated she was a manager. Long story short, she ended up purposely hanging on me despite me being polite throughout the conversation. Recently businesses no longer care about good customer service. Terrible terrible!! Customer service is horrible from the top to the bottom. I'll take that back...some of their employees are really nice and helpful, but what I witnessed today has made me decide to start shopping at Walmart or Safeway, both just down the street. I will specifically call out Jasmine the check out clerk for being a very rude snot to the mom and little boy who was in front of me. She ignored her because she was too busy scrolling her phone right in front of us. She continued to scroll her phone while she was scanning her groceries, still completely ignoring her....until the little boy touched that change machine on the counter. He barely touched it and in no way did anything wrong. He was very well behaved but Jasmine decided she could yell at him....literally she raised her voice at him. Totally inappropriate! I could tell the mom got irritated but she didn't say anything....good for her because I would have. Anyway, the attitude and rudness were so inappropriate that I decided to call in to the store manager to inform him. That didn't go well....I got hung up on first and then was put on hold for over 30 minutes. When someone finally got on the phone, I told her I was on hold for a manager. Her response was "Why!?" Also in a very rude tone. At this point I'm like "Wtf is going on?? Is everyone else rude there today?" Chris the Assistant Manager finally got on the phone. After telling him everything that happened.....nothing....silence. No apology, no sense of empathy for me or the poor mom. His response after the uncomfortable silence was "I'll re-educate my staff". That's all....no sorry, no nothing. I am extremely disappointed in the level of customer service I witnessed and experienced today. I will be shopping at Safeway or Walmart from now on. Fry's was my favorite store but things are changing...not for the better. After spending over $200 in groceries....I was charged 50 cents to get $20 back! Really? Even Walmart doesn't do this! Also, it's getting harder and harder to shop because of so many of the personal shoppers with their freaking huge shopping carts clogging the isles along with many displays in the middle of the isles. Went to three different Fry's trying to find chicken thighs they advertised in their ad on sale....NONE! I checked this store out twice during the sale period. Also, no fresh turkey breasts on Wed. before Thanksgiving. Also, getting out of the parking lot is horrible! Really unsafe! The store was great.....not so much anymore. But....I think grocery shopping in almost all stores has gone downhill​ over the past year in Tucson. Excellence is becoming a thing of the past. I think I will be driving across town to Trader Joes! This grocery store is clean and easily navigable. Produce is always fresh. Fresh sushi with samples on the weekends. Also a deli counter that serves sandwiches, hot wings. Butcher carries the standard variety of cuts and chops, but less selection of marinated meats than Safeway. Large in-house bakery outnumbers the commercial brands. Service stinks - used to be customer friendly - not any more. I was told I must catch my mistakes before I leave store. Explained there are others waiting in line and they have no patience. Customer Service lady said it's self-service so I should take the time. Rude and unfriendly. My go to grocery store. Fresh produce, good prices, and their sushi is great (for grocery store sushi). Always crowded, which to me is a good sign. One of my biggest pet peeves is when grocery stores re-arrange their aisles. Why confuse us? We get used to where things are and then store go and move things around. How annoying! When I lost my Dad to Parkinson's then 7 weeks later lost my brother, this young lady helped me ring up my groceries and her compassion for my recent loss was so special. As much as I'm here I figured I should write a review. This is a pretty nice store as far as grocery stores go. I've always had great experiences with their very friendly staff, and they have good prices. Of course, being 15 minutes walking distance from my house with self-service a gas station available definitely gives it brownie points in my book. Their sushi station is very fun, and I know a lot of my neighbors appreciate the Starbucks. I love that they have a wellness machine in the store. With a family history of high blood pressure, I like checking mine every once and a while and seeing my BMI makes me stick to my exercise a bit more regularly. I also love their online coupons. I haven't gotten into couponing (yet, there are lots of coupon queens who come to the store and their tiny grocery bills are rather tempting), but Fry's online coupons tailored to my previous food purchases is an easy way to save some money I do have an issue with their customer service over the phone. I've called a few times to check if they have certain items or to ask about sales and events. I seem to always get wrong answers or the staff have no idea what I'm talking about. Better off just going on your own if you can. Their produce selection can also be abyssal at certain days/times. I've gone in to find them out of literally over half their produce. Kinda frustrating, but understandable I guess on busy days. I always try to shop earlier in the day now. read more

We Run a local Nonprofit in Rita/Vail area called Reach For The Stars. I am the CEO. We have a food program that feeds over 70 families in need each month. We went to pick up $430 worth of groceries, including dairy, meat, frozen items etc. The employees asked us where to put the food at in the car. We said, heavy soda and water in the bed of the truck, everything else in our back seat. We get home 1.5 hours later and realize that the employees put all the cold food back in the bed as well. Meat was thawed, milk warm, frozen things melted. They didnt follow directions, and we took the temp as fast as we could. The temp of milk and meat was 45f. This is above the strict 41° food has to be kept at all times for safety readons. We called and asked to bring it back and they refused. We asked to speak to the manager, Abdul Osazam. He refused to even help us to exchange the items. He basically hung up on us. We are an approved Nonprofit in Arizona, and have our food handlers strict certificate. We feed hundreds, and can affect many people. This is unexceptable and Abdul was extremely rude. Wouldn't let me ask for an exchange, and thought we only wanted a refund. We shop at Fry's every week for years. We are A friendly community home based org and expect more from Fry's customer service. This was a complete lack of common sense. Never should dairy or meats be in the desert sun, or in the bed of a truck driving at 75 mph for 1.5 hours. We asked them to place it in the back seat with trust, we should have double checked but in 4 years there has never been an issue. We are very disappointed in the way this was all handled. read more

If you live in the Rita Ranch area you're limited to Fry's, Wal-Mart and Safeway. Employees must hate working for this store and or Kroger Corp. An employee was pushing their restocking cart and I stopped to give them the right away because I didn't want to run into them. I get the great response. I'm working here please move! This is not the first time I've had to deal with employees that have an attitude including the pharmacy and the deli. I was born into a family of shoppers. My husband and I shopped regularly and were blessed by Fry's with a wonderful selection of fresh groceries. I was doing well in life. I had a good job. I had good friends. I enjoyed life and things were good. Then one day my life took a turn. We moved out to Vail, had a couple of kids and all of a sudden an activity that I once enjoyed became wretched, devolving into chucking items into the cart as fast as possible just trying to end the torture. I remember many nights I prayed with my family. When praying, I asked Fry's to take control of my life and forgive my sins and to help us through this tough time. After the prayer, my husband told me that Fry's was just putting us through trials and tribulations and everything would get better. Then Fry's blessed us with the ClickList program, an online grocery service which now allows us to shop online and pick up our order at the store without having to leave the car. Gone are the days of being front kicked by my son as he struggles in the kid's seat. Gone are the days of finding mystery items in the cart at check out. Gone are the days of getting the side-eye from not-so-well-meaning blue hairs. Now I realize that this is the beginning of a journey and I feel like Fry's is watching over me, protecting, molding and shaping me into a better disciple. read more

It does get busy at times but you never have to wait in line too long and the self check out helps as well. They also have express lanes. The gas rewards are definitely something you wan to utilize. Pharmacy is great. The self-checkout is TERRIBLE! I only buy alcohol during the holidays. I waited to have my ID approved, then waited AGAIN when I realized I had to take my purchase to them to remove the magnet (what sense does that make?) This happened during thanksgiving, and again today for Christmas purchases. Twice the employees stood there while I removed the items from the bags. Then twice they left the alcohol on the counter and walked away. I'll go to SafeWay on Nexus for any purchase from now on. read more

I went into a Fry's grocery store today. It is a wonderful store, laid out well and even stocked well during this Coronavirus outbreak. I was impressed at the variety of products. You could get anything you needed or wanted. They have a lot of employees manning the cash register which makes for a relatively fast checkout and the prices are good. In just about every way, I would label this store towards the top of supermarkets. I have a heart condition that would most likely create a fatal situation should I catch the Corona virus. I have been taking precautions long before they were announced. I have been wearing mask and gloves when going out. In fact, I was the only one wearing a mask and gloves when I went out. Recently others have joined me. Anyway, as far as I know I do not have the virus. As I was checking out, I was in a lane that a male manager was running. As I approached eye could see he was worried to check me out. To solve his dilemma, he gave the register to the bagger to take care of. She was surprised and asked if he was coming back. As soon as the masked customer cleared the register area, he came back to continue checking out customers. My complaint is not with his actions towards me. It is with his actions towards his employee. He did not provide her with a facemask and left her to ring up and bag the groceries for a customer he assumed was a higher risk to himself. The ease at which he protected himself and risked his employee, was disappointing. Fry's has managers but this store does not have a leader and that's ok. Don't be surprised if the employees at fry's do not trust the company or the managers that run it. This review is a moment in time. I do not know what his home situation outside of work is. But, on this Monday 3/24/2020 this customer was disappointed. read more

While it doesn't meet my expectations like the Walmart Supercenter up the road, you could have a much worse grocery store in your neighborhood. My original review knocked the size of the crowd that generally occupied this grocery market, but over time I have learned how to avoid traffic issues -- both foot and vehicular. If you can avoid the early morning / afternoon crowd over the weekends, Fry's isn't all that bad. In fact, this is one of the more sumptuous grocery stores in Pima County. Fresh sushi chefs and an olive bar are just two of the features here to add to the craft beer and liquor I spoke of in my original review. The customer service here is elite. The vast majority of the employees possess enough knowledge to guide you in the right direction if you are in search of a specific product. Whenever lines grow long, another lane promptly opens. The cleanliness of this Fry's cannot be understated; especially given the load of business takes in on a daily basis. Despite the constant congestion, the employees here do an impeccable job of tidying this place up. There is a reason that Fry's in Rita Ranch is constantly packed whereas Safeway struggles to fill half its parking lot. Sure, Fry's is generally cheaper, but it also presents a much more attractive experience and better customer service. My opinion of this Fry's location has improved drastically in recent months and it will remain the prime grocery store for me in Rita Ranch for as long as I live here. read more

I shopped at this location tonight and found it to be dirty & won't be going back. It surprises me with COVID that the carts weren't being cleaned and there were no wipes for me to do it myself. I was also surprised that the checkouts were not being cleaned after each person that checked out. Also mentioning that the empty shelves weren't clean either. I know this is a different world but sanitation is critical. I use to shop at this store on a regular basis but this past year I have seen a decline in service, upkeep of cleanliness, and products. I have been to this fry's many times before, however tonight I was extremely upset with the self check out clerks attitude. I was purchasing tea candles I found an 8 pack listed for 30 cents so I grabbed four packs, I took them to the checkout and they rang up at 1.03. I mentioned to the clerk, who was chatting with his friends, he requested I go get the tag and so I did checking it said 8 pack candles. When I returned I handed to him and he told me the UPC was different, I let him know all the packs of 8 pack candles I had were right above that tag. So he said "well they're different." And turned around to chat with his friends again. I checked to make sure the words matched, not that all the UPC's were the same, they get paid to stock and face items, including making sure the items are in the correct spot. I canceled my order and won't be purchasing anything from this store again. read more

I had an amazing experience when checking out at this store. I realized I bit off more than I could chew with self checkout 3 kids and a crap ton of groceries. MARK!! Mark was amazing patient and helpful. I almost expected a snooty attitude being that I had so many groceries. He helped me make it easier any way possible. He got me an extra cart. He helped put groceries in the cart. He was so kind it was so refreshing to have him help me out like that. Thank you mark! Your amazing! You made my choice between Walmart and Fry's much easier now! I'm usually not one to write negative reviews, but in this case I feel it is necessary. I understand this manager was following procedure, and I'm not upset that she couldn't provide me with a refund because I couldn't find my receipt, procedure is procedure, rules are rules, and I get that. What mortified me is the  experience leading  up to being advised what procedure is. This  "customer care" associate didn't care. I don't shop at Fry's often if at all and after this experience, I will not be going to this location again. Reality is, the same products can be purchased else where. Living in the Vail area limits options but I will be more than happy to take my business to Safeway. I will also be sure to pass my experience along to others so that they can make informed decisions about the type of customer service they wish to receive. When I came in tonight, I stood at the customer care desk for maybe 5 minutes with out the customer care representative, who was the manager for the night, acknowledging that I was there. I was basically ignored that entire time. There was not "just a moment I'll be right with you" or anything along those lines. At this point I walked up to the cashier who was working the self checkout and asked her if they happen to do returns at this time of night since it was quite late and the store was near closing. She advised me that they do and to go to the line I was just standing at and that the manager/associate would be able to assist me there. I then proceeded to go back to where I was standing with no acknowledgement from the representative Francine. It took the cashier from the self checkout, and quite possibly another associate, to walk up and tell her I was standing there, for my presence to be acknowledged. I was then greeted with a "we are closed up here, what do you need" in a tone that made it clear I was inconvining her. As someone who has worked in customer service for the past 9 years, I was appalled by the lack of common courtesy. No friendly hi, or sorry for your wait, not even a oh I didn't see you there. She was in no way interested in assisting and at that point I should have just walked out. She proceeded to treat me like I was stupid when I told her that I did not have a Fry's card, because as I stated I don't shop there very often(will not be shopping there EVER again), asking me how I bought it if I didn't have one, rather than just telling me without a receipt she could not do the refund and because because I didn't have a Fry's card she would be unable to look up the purchase. I had to explain that people buy things with cash, and do pay full price. Shortly after I called to get the name of the associate who assisted me, only to be waiting on the line for 10 minutes. literally 1 minute before close they answered. I don't know if that's typical for stores when it's close to midnight, but I would assume, with minimal customers, someone would be able to answer a phone. Because she assumed when answering that I was "the girl who just came in for a refund" I can only assume the call wasn't answered promptly in the hopes I would just hang up (my number was provided to them, in an attempt, which I knew was futile, to locate my purchase).  I was then promptly informed, after asking for the name of the manager for the night, that she has already emailed her supervisor about the situation and she was following procedure. No emapthy or anything else. I did inform her that it wasn't the procedure that I was upset about, it was the experience, the phone call only increased my level of irritation. I was informed to call in the morning and talk to a supervisor, which I will definitely be doing. If you don't care about customers and you don't care about providing a positive experience then you should not be working in a customer service industry. The lack of customer care and just basic courtesy was astounding. Within their corporate values and mission statement is: "Integrity : Living our values in all we do, unified approach to how we do business and treat each other."  If this is at all a demonstration of that, then I will be more than happy to take my business elsewhere. read more
