Store ambience and quality of food has drastically improved over the years. Has the kindest staff.

At any given time at this location you can walk through the store and fill an entire cart with expired or rotten food. It's honestly disgusting how much rotten food is still on the shelf at this location. Unfortunately the staff does not go through and check any dates so you have to do that yourself as the customer. Or you will make the same mistakes as I have and waste money on food that is no good. read more

I don't really lean one way or the other when it comes to this grocery store as a chain; it's convenient, which I think is the main reason why I frequent it, but it's no better than any of the others I've visited, honestly. This note has nothing to do with the quality of the store, itself. The five stars are for the pharmacy, and the wonderful man, Mark, with whom I always seem to interact with when picking up prescriptions. I've been using this same pharmacy for the past couple of years, and even though it's a small thing and a brief interaction each time, he is always so friendly, and always asks how I'm doing. He has also never failed to remember exactly who I am, which is extremely impressive given the size of the client base that visits that particular pharmacy. It's so nice to have this pleasant little interaction every so often, and I'll definitely continue to use this location if there's anything I need. Thank you for being you, Mark! read more

* Warning disturbing video * I recently started shopping groceries at this place and I noticed that some products are on the shelves with expiration dates from one day before. I saw that with bread and eggs. I thought it was a couple mistakes by the store team. However, on August 27th I bought three filets of what was advertised as "fresh," everything else was "prefrozen." Today I was ready to prepare dinner and when I open the package I saw something moving. The fish had worms. I immediately took it back but it took 10 minutes for someone to noticed me and then another 10 for someone to help me. I was calm but the attitude of the person that came to help me made me mad. Is as if we are no allowed to bother them. Once she saw the warms she change the attitude but it was too late. This place should be named Unsafeway. I apologize for posting this video because is disgusting but I don't want anyone else to have this on their kitchen. I ask anyone buying food here to verify expiration dates because it seems to me that Unsafeway is cutting corners at out expense. read more

I have noticed a big improvement in this Safeway since Tonya D has been managing it. I recently had excellent customer service from Eileen G. who went above and beyond to help me. In general, the employees seem friendlier and more helpful than they used to be. I'm giving it four stars instead of 5 because the quality of food is not up to my super high nutritional standards, but for a regular grocery store it's good and I am happy to have this near my home. read more

This Safeway location has gone through an update. The store overall is fairly modern. Their inventory is a hit and miss. It appears that they clearly have an employee retention problem. I've seen a lot of employees come and go. I've also seen a lot of open positions, which I suspect is a clear leadership and management issue. Their prices are no higher than any other grocery store. Depending on the time of day, you may be standing in long checkout lines. read more

This is my favorite Safeway I have shopped at in the denver/Boulder metro area. I have heard this is due to efforts to improve the location and I can vouch that they have! They either always have everything I need or can tell me when it will be back in stock. All the employees have been helpful and polite and they never give me a hard time when I rub in at 10:50pm. Your local town grocery store. Safeway is a large corporation. In all of my travels and places of living this is by far the very BEST Safeway ever. Every non grocery related idea I have had, Safeway has supported fully! We bought 50 bouncy balls for a kid activity. Holiday balloons, Last minute help to save the day for a party. Vegan options, fresh options, your childhood favorite snacks. The best part is the friendly customer service of the people who work their butts off with a smile. We know these guys by name they always say hi, and are so encouraging and supportive to everything we've ever had going on. Where on earth does this exist? HERE! Thanks Safeway. Store is super clean and attracts a higher end clientele. Very friendly employees and generally always helpful! Their soups are amazing and the deli associates are always happy to make the hot items fresh for you if you will wait. Gas station charged my debit card $125 hold for $32 of gas. What a rip off. This is the only gas station that it's ever happened at. Who would get 80 gallons of gas. I used my store card after spending hundreds and no savings on gas. No sticker or no notice on the $125 hold. Just took it right out without asking. I can't support a crooked business like this. This Safeway is a smaller version of the larger stores, it seems pretty large but not by way of comparison to the really large locations. Subsequently their selection here is slightly-somewhat limited as well in some areas. The prices here aren't great and seem to reflect the "you're near Flatirons Crossing, of course you're going to pay a premium" mindset...either that or Safeway just has slightly-somewhat higher prices in general. Not on everything mind you...but on, let's say, more than half their items? This alone wouldn't be enough to make me rate them 2 stars...but the a) register not ringing up the correct price on a sale item ($4 per instead of $1.50), and b) when I tried to point out that the sales clerk had taken *some* money off the order ($4 off), but not what I was entitled to ($10 off, I bought 4), he said -- and it may have been innocent and without malice, but said "what's your problem?" I narrowed my eyes and said "I sincerely hope you didn't mean that the way it could have been meant". He assured me it was not, but...maybe replacing the "your" with "the", or workin on those customer service skill points a bit, might not have resulted in me dunking this location for 2 stars. The *only* reason I go here is due to proximity to my house -- anything I can get to in under 10 mins is a bonus...but after today, possibly not gonna deal with it again. read more

This Safeway location is quite a bit smaller than some of the others in the area. Therefore, selection is more limited. They have fewer vegetarian vegan meal options, fewer organic produce options, and a smaller selection of almost anything. They do not have a large natural food section like other stores either. Perhaps also because of the smaller size, they do not have as many good deals that roll through. Also, for some reason their automatic doors open extremely slowly and they close early at 9pm. Hmm. If you are looking for a large selection or good options for natural foods go to the boulder stores instead. On a positive note, their gas station regularly has the best gas prices in superior. read more

I used to live very close to this Safeway and was impressed with their O-organics brands. The O Organic brand of frozen foods and even canned O-organics taste(d) great. Now that megalo-Alberston's is taking them over, they are thinning out their O Organics brands. Thus, they are going downhill. The O Organic Heavy Whipping cream WAS THE BEST-TASTING organic whipping cream on the market, ANYWHERE. They discontinued their O Organic whipping cream in late June or early July of 2015. Goodbye, Safeway, it was nice while it lasted. I used to go to Safeway stores just for the O Organic Whipping Cream. NOT ANY MORE. You all can say goodbye to my hard-earned cash. read more

I love this grocery store. I never find myself looking for something I can't find and the staff is very nice in the check-out lines. I also never have any issues with their self-checkouts which is note-able in my opinion. The parking lot is super easy too, some grocery store parking lots are rough. read more

One of the worst Safeway stores. Never an employee around to help and often no buggies.. you have to go outside and 'find' one. Need something at the courtesy counter? So.... Safeway will never get our business again. I am beyond disgusted with the staff here. I don't normally post things like this but this needs to be said. Apparently store employees (Safeway) now have power. Yesterday Sascha and I walked into Safeway (they have a mask rule now) so we put them on and started shopping for a few things. I take off down a separate isle while Sascha heads down another. As I'm walking I hear some chatter on the next isle. Sascha has pulled her mask down below her nose to breath and talk. I could hear her previously mumbling back to store employee. Then out of nowhere I hear this employee start yelling. "Put your goddam mask on or I'll call the police!" Of course I instantly lost my shit. I race over to the isle and see/hear this lady yelling at Sascha that it's a Superior LAW now that we have to wear masks. (Lie number #1) Sascha isn't yelling back. Not being rude. She has her mask on. Only lowering it to speak. The employee has hers on her neck the entire time she's yelling at Sascha. Sascha asks for the manager and the cooperate # so we can call and make a formal complaint. This employee gives us the store number. So we leave and get outside to car and make the call. Guess who answers? The Employee. What does she do?? Hangs up on Sascha. So, we go back in the store and demand a manager. 3 employees all standing there tell us. "We don't have a managers number. Or a cooperate number. ". Ok... so we ask to speak to a manger in person. "Oh she's not available." The same employee continues to raise her voice. Swearing at us. Then threatens to call the cops. We asked her to please call them as we wanted to also make a complaint. The employee gets on the phone and says to the police. "Please hurry. They are taking our names and want our numbers. " (lie #2) We asked her name and the managers number and name. So after some more yelling we walk outside and wait for the police. Still no police (lie #3) they never called them. We decided to cut our losses and leave. In no way shape or form do I think it's even remotely ok for people (Especially store employees) to treat customers this way. We complied with the "LAW" even though it's not a law. While this employee had her mask off the entire time she was yelling at Sascha that she must have hers on. Which she did. Also swearing at a customer???? Who does this? Why is this even slightly ok?? So.. Safeway of Superior. You need to check your employees. I saw multiple people in the store without masks. Why weren't they attacked. Why weren't the police apparently called on them? Do you give your employees permission to swear and yell at your customers? This is terrible business. Out of all your customers I'm sure losing a couple is no big deal. Either way this is disgusting and we will never set foot in your store again. read more

The Drive Up & Go services at Safeway, and the Colton location specifically, is poor, disorganized, demonstrates failed customer care and provides for failed experience. We have twice tried to arrange the home delivery of goods only to be told (much later; after order placed) they could not meet their service commitment. Yesterday my wife placed an order for Drive Up & Go for the next day (today). Just prior to departing to pick up the items (for a senior charitable home delivery) she received a "order delayed" message with no details, no alternative time or reason for delay. A call to the store resulted in a referral to a "800" number. The number provided was incorrect and required a Google search. This customer care center could not provide any specifics either other than the order had not been fulfilled yet. Ultimately, the order was canceled and an alternative had to be considered (the CS rep would not simply move the order, as placed, to next day. Additionally, the CSR indicated any refund would take 48+ hours to process. The experience with our attempts for home delivery and Drive Up & Go were not good and going forward we will not attempt these services again. If Safeway can't deliver on a service commitment or pledge, I suggest you no longer represent the service. It dilutes any positive in-store experience and leaves a very unhappy customer considering competition and all other options. #poorservice read more

I'm a loyal follower of whole foods or target so Safeway just doesn't do it for me. It seems kind of overpriced for the quality of goods. If I want generic goods, I'd rather frequent target for their more reasonable prices. If I want to spend a little more then whole foods is more worth my money, in my opinion. Also, their gas station always costs more than other nearby gas stations, which just seems silly to me. The only advantage (or really the only reason at all) that I'd go grocery shopping here is for convenience since it's so close to home. I'd also find myself here because Safeway houses the red box in my area (which would be getting a 5 star itself if I could yelp it HA, since that's actually the MAIN reason I step into this Safeway). It's nearby so this is where I have been going but often they out of common items and have to go to another store to complete my shopping. The worst is I got an email from them saying that one of the items I purchased was being recalled, because of possible Listeria contamination! And I had already ATE it!!!! I found symptoms can take as much as 70 days to present so I am waiting to see if I get sick and how bad (it's potentially lethal!!!!) if I do I will be suing Safeway... On one visit, I asked someone for help locating an item, I was told "I don't know I don't shop here" to be clear, I asked an employee . This store is always filthy and has been even dirtier during the pandemic. The bathroom garbage has been overflowing all over the floor the last three times I've visited. The employees at this Safeway are some of the rudest I've ever encountered. The store opens at 5:30 am, but at 5:50 am two girls were too busy talking to be bothered to help find an item, then there is literally a cowbell to ring when you're ready to checkout. So after ringing it 3 times with another rude employee 15 feet away ignoring it and another employee talking to a friend, I finally got checked out with a rude attitude and not even a thank you. I love this Safeway. It is clean and usually quite unless you go during the mad rush of 4-6. The staff is please and the pharmacy is amazing. All the pharmacist are super nice and the main reason I continue to come here. I will go out of my way to go to the pharmacy here because they are so nice and most pharmacy's are rude and don't care about their patients. I just got the terrible experience at Safeway (1601 Coalton Rd, Superior, CO 80027): My mom went to that branch and bought some stuff., including 2 english cucumbers. However, the cashier (the manager - Karla Johnston) counted it as 23 (that's fine, everyone can make fault). After back home, I found that issue and went back to the store and asked for return. She was at the customer service but she didn't show any apology to us and didn't say even "sorry". In contrast, she tried to fool us with money calculation although the calculation is simple enough that I already knew from 8 years old. Fault is fault, right? My mom cannot speak English and doesn't know the words, if we cannot find this issue after back home, so where that money goes? I hope Safeway can have some penalty policy for this kind of situation. This store is on walking distance from me, so I am shopping there quite often. Their staff is great! Very friendly and helpful. Produce section is better than the most of the stores around. The only thing that I usually have a trouble finding is their meat and fish selection, however that doesn't change my overall impression, since I am able to find everything else that I need, and I am usually shopping meat elsewhere. I live nearby and use this store for convenience. But I hate this store. They either don't have common items on the shelves or half the time the items are expired. The produce has improved, but I have started going to King Soopers, which isn't close, just so I can buy everything in one trip. The produce and meat here are usually about to expire (what you find marked down elsewhere), but actually costs more than other places. The hot food at the deli is flavorless and/or not cooked correctly. It's close to home, so I have fallen victim and wasted money there more than once (just be patient and go somewhere else, even WalMart). read more
