I've always been perfectly happy with our local Safeway in Sparks. I love their selection of deli meats and cheeses, their fruits and veggies are always fresh and of good quality, and their meat counter has quality products with knowledgeable and friendly staff. I also utilize them for my prescriptions and the pharmacy staff is always friendly, helpful, and communicates well when I have a prescription that is on order or out of stock. You get what you pay for what you pay for with groceries, meat and every other consumer product in life and, yes, Safeway is expensive for what they offer, but it is of good quality and decent value. I always recommend Safeway for their groceries, pharmacy and positive customer experiences. read more

This review is for the Safeway pick up service. A shopper grabs the stuff for you. And then brings it to your car. I was searching for a whole chicken to put in the smoker when I ran across an ad from Safeway. Five dollar Cornish game hens (regularly seven dollars) if you purchase four of them. I decided to go for the deal, and when I open the app and they had a $30 off first time order for either delivery or pick up. Now I like to save money, just had to purchase $75 after all of the discounts. So I went through the app and ordered a bunch of stuff. New York steaks were on sale, Cornish game hints, bought a few different types of vegetables. The total was $160. But with the coupons and the $30 off, I ended up spending $48. It's nice to have them pick up the stuff, but the shoppers job is not to help you get the best items. My wife had to replace the salary and the carrots and the steaks. It seems like the shoppers job is too get rid of stuff before it expires and they have no issue giving you bruised or damaged fruits and vegetables. So even though the price was great , the steaks were completely covered with fat and gristle. The vegetables were on their last leg. I do not recommend this service. read more

Honest shopping experience: 1/5... discriminated and just disappointed. Won't return to this establishment. Would give this a 0 if I could. Walked up to a register line tonight in a good mood, asked the gentleman how he was. Didn't respond.... He was in a conversation with his coworker and got upset when we were in the line. Asked to confirm if my card registered Into the system. Looks up.... "It did!" In a glaring tone. Got upset and didn't bag our groceries... not that we expected him to, but he started and just stopped. Then proceeds to scan the same thing over 3 times.... We had to ask him to remove the duplicate scanned item and he got defensive about his error.... He had an attitude the entire time and proceeds to be warm and inviting to the following person in line... of the same skin tone. If I could give zero stars I would. Staff was non existent and was very unhelpful and unfriendly. I've shopped at this store for quite some time due to it being close to home. Lately it feels like there's been some changes being made and I'm not sure they are for the best. I will say the produce has been looking good. But as far as the deli, the wrong pricing, the bakery and finding product with bad dates, I will not be shopping here anymore. I'll go with the four stars even though I consider Safeway to be pricey. They do have sales to watch for. The store is always very neat and the vegetables and fruit is always top-notch. The meat department does a great job always willing to help if I have a question or need something special from the meat department. It just doesn't seem like a really friendly Store to me. The checkers don't exactly acknowledge or make an effort as far as politeness. They often do not even greet each customer as I have watched this. But I can't blame them, they look tired. It is an easy to wait on public. Especially with the price of groceries now. However, it's very near my residence and easily accessible. Life is what you make it. Someone stayed up all night and decided it would be a good idea to rearrange the entire store. Everyone I encountered in the store was complaining. the store doesn't seem to care if the customers are happy or not. this is just so far beyone stupid there aren't words. Just because Costco does this crap doesn't mean everyone else should. The biggest complaint about Costco is just that. Also there were several customers and 2 registers open at this Safeway, one was a gentleman that had to rest every few scans as he could barely breathe. I am so disappointed in Safeway or at least this location. There was only one employee and his name was Alvin that asked if he could assist me. Now normally I wouldn't really care about that because I like being independent and so on and so forth but I just got out of the hospital after a 5-day stay I've got to sling on one arm a PICC line in the other so obviously at some point I would need assistance and not once in the store did I have an employee asked me if I needed help, if they could help me with reaching anything or putting anything in my basket nothing. Now originally I just went to go pick up a few items but of course Safeway does have good sales where it's buy one get one free, or pick 4 for $20, the sodas are usually a great sale so I had $248 worth of items in my basket well actually it's more than that because I saved $198 so you can imagine my basket was full. And like I said Alvin was the only one who saw me pull my basket out to my car and he came running up and assisted me so kudos to him I think that was great everybody else you need to work on your customer service. I was a Safeway shopper before they moved out to a new store on Vista Blvd. Sparks Nv. But I, like 300 plus other handicap shoppers in Sparks do not shop there because they normally only have 2 handicapped riding carts. I have asked them many times to get more carts so we can shop there to no avail. Now they have none, the asst. manager said they were stolen and having them is not a priority to them. This is a very nice large grocery store. It is generally a clean modern, well stocked, grocery store. I don't usually write negative reviews but in this case I have to speak up. I am older and sometimes urgently need a restroom. I normally choose well established grocery stores because they offer well maintained restrooms. In this one instance the fell well short. I know it is not easy to maintain public facilities and I am often disgusted by my fellow shoppers who abuse public facilities. Unfortunately, there was no (zero) toilet paper in the one men's stall and two rolls on the floor of the other. At the same time there was zero toilet paper in the fixtures/dispenser. That was bad enough but there was no soap dispenser at the lavatory sink. I looked around and found no soap. I assume they require and expect their employees to wash their hands after using the restroom. I don't know how they could be hygienic without soap or paper towels. They did have working air dryers but no soap or sanitizer. Someone in management needs to step up. I have been a manager and know employees generally follow the lead of their management. The delivery service for groceries is so bad. They use Uber and more than half the time the person can't find my apartment. EVEN after leaving explicit instructions. I don't know why Safeway continues to use UBER drivers because they don't know how to deliver my groceries over half the time. I know it's the people because many times I get my groceries no problem. Also called Costco and there's were $21.99. For three dollars I decided to go with Safeway ( pick-up is easier ). I called Safeway back and ordered four lei's. After going to the store they only had three lei's and were charging me $31.99 each. Told them to forget it and went to Costco. Looking for a handy basket to hold your grocery items? Don't look by the obvious places, like the entrance. I have noticed the last month or so, they stopped stacking the baskets by the doors. Could you at least stack them throughout the store? Are you looking for late night shopping? Don't go to the entrance by the deli, they shut the power off, so you have to push the door open. WHY?? Customer service was adequate Bathroom was clean. The managers(s) of this business like their Freedom so they have a 10% Military and Veterans Discount every November to those who Serve or have Served as a token thanks to our GIs and we Veterans. I moved to this part of Sparks December 2021 and this has become my default grocery store. I have shopped here countless times in almost a year and have always had good experiences. The store has always been clean. The employees have been very helpful. And most importantly, the shelves have always been stocked. I've never left the store without an ingredient I couldn't find. I do have one complaint, but it's not enough to dock a star. The last time I was there, the girl at the check stand was excruciatingly slow at checking out the people in her line. For one person through her line, the checker behind her checked out 3 people, and those others having more items than the one in this checker's line. I'm not sure if she was new and was just learning speed, or if she was just done at the end of her shift. While she was ringing me up and I was putting my card into the terminal to check out, she turned and told the other checker she was off in 15 minutes. If I see her again as a checker, I will not be choosing her line. read more

I moved to this part of Sparks about two years ago, and this is my go-to grocery store. It's the best! We are big eaters in our household, and we rarely go out to eat, so we buy a lot of groceries and come here jointly and solo at least twice a week. I know I'm the kind of person who says "hi" and unnecessarily acknowledges the existence of employees when I'm out and about, but I honestly feel like I'm saying hello to old frens whenever I'm here. Bruce the old cashier dude who takes his time ringing up stuff but who always has something funny to say! The self-checkout monitor lady who might appear crusty but who nevertheless always says hi back when I say "thank you" as I'm leaving the area! The slot machine operator who always waves back to me and who beckons me over to give me extra Monopoly pieces when the game is on in the summer! The nice bakery staff who never give me any trouble when I ask them to write ridiculous things on cakes for me! Safeway is goldilocks just right with respect to store appearance and price. It's not fancy fancy like a Whole Foods or a nice Raleys, but it's also not a budget Winco. Their selection of meat and fruits and veggies isn't extensive, but the basics are covered well. I am often pleasantly surprised with their discounts: buy one get one free bread, by two get one free pork loins. Their discount baked goods selection is also tops: we buy a half-off cake at least once every two weeks. It's super convenient to be able to get gas before or after getting groceries. Even though the gas is not the cheapest, the 10 cent discounts you get after buying a certain amount of groceries add up quickly. We also get super in to the Monopoly game when it goes live in the summer, and I have won so many free items and cashed in Monopoly points for $20 gift cards as a result. Room for improvement? Their security is lax, and there's a quick beeline from the alcohol section to one of the two front doors. I once saw two elementary school boys walk out with a bottle of vodka, and it happened so fast that I didn't have time to rationally process my Captain America injustice instincts. Alex from the meat department did not want to help cut my meat. He suggested another thin meat saying the one I picked was not good to cut. I told him I cook it all the time and wanted it. He said,"Fine, I'll cut it for you." I go home and something told me to recheck the price. To my surprise, the guy changed the price, pounds, and type of meat. My chuck roast was only $15, This guy tried to be sneaky and charged me $33($9.99/lb) for ground beef! I went back to tell the guy how wrong he was for not wanting to do his job, to be dishonest to a customer and the company! Of course, he tried to play dumb like he had no idea what I was talking about. One customer pulled me to the side to let me know she had issues with the same employee. He should have been fired a long time ago. She told me to take down his name and talk to his manager. Another customer joined in to say, she stood there for a while and he never helped her either. I told her to be careful and check the prices because he will change it and over charge you. That says a lot about this employee when 2 customers agree with you! He also only cut the top part of the meat in strips. Everything under were thick chunks. He made it look like it was all cut. However, this was not the main reason why I complained. This part was something I would have let go. However, changing the price on me is not something I will keep quiet about. I don't want it to happen to other customers. If I could, I would give 5 stars to the manager, Zack. He let me vent, told me what he can do for me, what his next steps will be with the employee, and he was very apologetic. I wasn't impressed with my first visit, so I stopped by a second time to give them another chance as it's a more convenient stop on the way home. I came in at shortly after 5pm on a Friday. The store is kinda set up backwards but it's essential pretty easy to locate everything. Their deli selection was lacking. I wanted wings but they only had a few remaining that looked dry and as if they'd set out all day. I opted for the chicken tenders which ended up being juicy. I feel as though they are slightly over priced for what they're offering. I would describe them as a wanna be Raley's for you locals. I don't mind the price due to the convenience but if I was shopping for a family I would opt to shop elsewhere. What really turned me off both times is the staff. Their attitudes were poor and they were short with me both times I checked out. When I was ready to checkout this time only 2 checkout lanes were open in addition to self checkout. Both lines were backed up well into the aisles. Self checkout was backed up past the Starbucks. As pictured you see a small sign on the conveyor belt which you cannot read from where I'm standing. As soon as the lady in front of me placed her groceries on the belt the employee informed her that she must not have read the sign and she should have waited for him to wipe off the conveyor belt. The sign was pushed out of the way and the print was entirely too small. First of all this seems like a sanitary step that should be taken daily not just a standard under this particular virus breakout. The signage informing customers of this new rule should be placed outside of the checkout lines in a bigger signage that's easy to read. Not pushed to the side at the end of the conveyor belt. While getting checked out the gentlemen seemed stressed out and tired. The lines were quite literally almost out the door. Neither him nor his fellow cashier had a bagger. I bagged my own groceries to help out but it's really ridiculous. Y'all can't pay to have more cashiers open for what seemed like a busy time to shop? I completely understand his frustration. Hi, 8/16/2024 I am a very infrequent shopper at your Safeway store on Vista Blvd in Sparks. When I want good produce or something from the butcher, Safeway is where I go to shop. Sometime in the past 12 months, I had an unpleasant experience with a person in the butcher shop. Even prior to this incident, I always felt like I was a bother to the guys cutting meat and I hated coming in. I usually left with something that I didn't really come there for due to the fear of asking the men in there to help me. My main reason to come to the butcher shop is to buy beef bones for my 20 pound dogs. The beef bones are too long so I like to ask the guys to cut them in half so there are smaller bones. Doing that means I have to stop them from doing what they are doing and ask them to cut them on the meat cutter. I learned to come in in the morning before the meat slicers were cleaned as not to upset them. After being berated by a butcher shop employee, I called and spoke to the manager. She was very nice and promised to handle the situation. I never came back because I knew the employee would know it was me that complained and I was afraid to ask him for anything. Fast forward 6-8 months later and I decided to come back in and check on the beef bones. I went in and found the bones I wanted and went to the butcher counter. Russell was there and he helped me. He was pleasant and accommodating. He was happy to help me, and he cut the ribs in half for me. Several weeks later, which was the week of 08/12, I decided to call instead of making the drive in. Russell answered the phone, and I asked him if he minded checking to see if there were any beef bones available, He kindly went out and checked. He came back to the phone and confirmed that he had a pack of 5 in his hand. I asked him if he minded cutting them right down the middle and rewrapping them for me. He was so super nice and was willing to accommodate me. When I went into Safeway to pick up the beef ribs, I encountered Matt. He was so happy and smiley, and he knew exactly what I was there for. He thanked me for coming in and told me that I was the 1st person in 3 days who had come in to actually pick up their "special" order. I felt so good about returning to Safeway and it was so nice to come in and not feel intimidated by the butcher guys. I just want to thank them so much for their exceptional customer service and making me feel like a valued shopper. I purchased so many things that I have missed for so long. I got Organic carrots that were purple, orange, white and yellow. I got a fresh cucumber. I went to the bakery and got a box of HUGE donuts and several slices of cake, and cheesecake with cherries. I stopped by the deli and picked out some of the presliced Boars Head cold cuts and then I went looking for the Olive bar. It was gone but I found the olives. When I left, I sincerely missed shopping there. There are so many things that I can't get elsewhere that I came to Safeway to get, specifically. In closing, I just really wanted you to know how a positive attitude and customer service can bring a customer back and it was all due to the 2 guys in the meat department, Matt and Russell!! I placed a drive an go order via the app for the first time wondering if it would save me some time (which not I have much of) app seemed easy enough quickly went through it and placed my order, after pushing send I realized I didn't add in an address, when I looked at my order it said a Safeway across town where I used to live which was not going to work so I tried to cancel, I quickly found out you can't cancel an order via the app, once you pay you pay, having done all I can with the app I call the costumer service number, the answered very quickly, canceled the initial order then had me replace the order via the app again stating that my money will be refunded, that was 10 days ago, I've called 4 times and got 4 different answers, first person said 5-7 days which I feel in this day an age is long time, I waited and called at 7 days and they said wait a day and call back, day 9 I got hung up on, day 10 I was told there is no record of the canceled order and I need to refile the complaint I asked for their manager, I got put on hold for 20 no then hung up on, called back to find they blocked my number.... I agree at the end of all this I was a bit stressed out but not using profanities or being rude with the call service people, I understand they are just doing their job however, aside from the person who cancelled my initial order there has been inadequate client care on the part of the call center, and that is a generous statement. On a recent visit to Safeway in Reno, I was treated very kindly. On my way out of the store, I stopped and broke a bottle of wine. One employee immediately ran up to me to see if I was alright, another grabbed an absorbent power and began soaking up the wine. A third employee came up to me and asked what had broken. I told her and she went to the right aisles, got another bottle of the same wine and replaced the one I broke. What could have been very embarrassing and costly to me was handled promptly and efficiently. Thank you. read more

UPDATE: I've started doing my grocery shopping late at night. Like 10pm. SO much better! The man that usually manages at night is wonderful. He's so kind, and honestly: I love our weekly conversations! He's great! Since I've been going so late, everything has been stocked and organized and easy to shop. _________________ This place is a joke. Be careful bringing children around... I just spent 2 mins in isle 5 listening to the boys stocking in isle 6 drop F- Bomb after F-Bomb. I'm all for speaking your mind, but come guys! I have my toddler who is now parroting everything she hears, and you're at work! The bakery girls were also yelling back and forth about about how "those stupids in meat department can't figure out how to work the damn phones." You're at work guys!
