Still 1 star. Horrible deli service. Opens @ 7 am and they were 100% not prepared &750 when I came in. Waited for a very long time. Got a rude employee who tried to ignore me when I asked for help. Started making a sandwich before I even said what I wanted, which was a breakfast burrito. No bell peppers, no potatoes, rude about it & no discount. Very disappointed in this service. The other lady from the far side of the deli yelled "it is what it is" and I asked what's going on? She said they were short staffed and no delivery "yet". Still, not my fault and they could at least be polite about it. Man making my burrito yelled and threw up his hands about not having "anything" ( despite them literally being in a grocery store). I had a 36 cupcake order for two kids birthday parties. I place the order and reserved specific decorations, that the employee put in a bag and set aside for me. I placed the order on 5/8 when I went to pick up on 5/20 the staff did not have my order. I had the order form and one of the team members argued with me and said they had not taken a cupcake order in weeks. After a few minutes of arguing someone offered to make them and have them done within the hour. I went and came back, they did not apologize or provide a discount. This is the second issue we have had for May birthday parties at this location. I would not recommend using. read more

Went here to get some organic apple juice for a friend. Walked in got coffee creamer and organic apple juice. I really hate when stores move their aisle around and you can't find anything. It had been awhile since I had shopped in this store. Hence I ended up walking around the store more than I wanted to because they had moved many items. I've always loved Safeway...until my visit today at 10 AM. This store still adheres to a high standard of cleanliness that you'd expect from the chain. The staff is always friendly and helpful. Here's why I'm deducting two stars. Inflation and supply issues have contributed greatly to price increases. With that in mind, Safeway's prices are out of line on most items compared to most grocers. They're one of the worst chains when it comes to their various promotions involving member prices and downloadable coupons. It's an exasperating process to have to check each digital coupon box. I understand why they want customers to register as a member. Data mining is a detestable practice used by most grocers. I wish they'd stop doing it because it feels like a violation of my privacy. I have little faith that the chain isn't selling my purchasing patterns to third parties. Safeway needs to quit playing games and stop this digital coupon nonsense. The other reason I'm giving a lower rating is because of their inability to put products in the same place as their signage. It's annoying to check out and find you've grabbed a product higher than the advertised price. It's essentially a form of bait and switch when stockers put a similar product in the space of the one on sale. Leave the shelf empty if you're filling it with other products for aesthetics. I shouldn't have to check the yellow sales tags and my receipt with a fine tooth comb to catch price mismatches. I encountered one this morning where the space for some frozen produce didn't match the brand on sale. It strikes me as a deliberate strategy to confound and rip off consumers. I've encountered this problem multiple times with Safeway as well as its competitors. Quit advertising things like 'buy 2, get 3 free' twelve packs of soda. Clearly advertise the price as '5 twelve packs for (promotion price'. Purposefully concealing the true prices is a sneaky practice and shows a total disregard for your customers. Shoppers be forewarned. There's an extremely high probability that you've been overcharged. Safeway's staff is more than helpful in resolving the problem. A store clerk went back and checked the shelf and found that stockers had put a similar product on the shelf because stockers were covering gaps. There are plenty of good things to say about the store. However, if the chain is going to inconvenience shoppers, then I'll be buying elsewhere. read more

The guys that work the meat department are rude and go out of their way to screw up your order request. I guess they hate their lives and get off on the little things they have control over. I got wings , asked for drums and flats he gave me 10 drums and 2 flats , and I was sick after eating them.This place is disappointing on so many more levels tho in addition to expired food and rancid meat .I only go there out of convenience, but no more. Stay away from the pharmacy if you want any kind of compassionate service. Unfortunately due to insurance requirements we must use Safeway. I am so glad we don't require prescriptions all the time. The last 3 times over the past 4 years I used the Reno pharmacy it's always the same story. I walk in at 4pm to pick up and it "oh I'm sorry it's not ready come back in a few hours." Now mind you these are prescriptions that are called in and picked up a day or two later. This last one was called in FOUR DAYS AGO. What's even worse the poor lady in front of me was there to pick up meds for her surgery tomorrow and she missed pickup by one day and they sent the meds back. Not sure how her surgery will be tomorrow but she was rightfully stressed. They offered no help what so ever. Not sure if it's understaffing or what but what I do know it should not effect your customers. *** Update Just went back again today and they pulled the same excuse with me. Just got back from Safeway for the 2nd time. None of my coupons were taken off and the bread I bought clearly states (even online, Buy 2 or more $1.99 ea) Well I got charged $3.99 each. The coffee had a coupon, it did not come off. So I took those items back for a refund, they goofed that up too, instead of giving me credit for 4 loaves of bread they gave me credit for 3 and charged me for one. I spent $145 this time, there was also supposed to be a 5% coupon taken off. This is the second time this has happened in just a few weeks, we just moved to Sparks so I don't know if this happens to everyone? Three Strikes your out!!! read more

So here we go.... I placed a drive an go order via the app for the first time wondering if it would save me some time (which not I have much of) app seemed easy enough quickly went through it and placed my order, after pushing send I realized I didn't add in an address, when I looked at my order it said a Safeway across town where I used to live which was not going to work so I tried to cancel, I quickly found out you can't cancel an order via the app, once you pay you pay, having done all I can with the app I call the costumer service number, the answered very quickly, canceled the initial order then had me replace the order via the app again stating that my money will be refunded, that was 10 days ago, I've called 4 times and got 4 different answers, first person said 5-7 days which I feel in this day an age is long time, I waited and called at 7 days and they said wait a day and call back, day 9 I got hung up on, day 10 I was told there is no record of the canceled order and I need to refile the complaint I asked for their manager, I got put on hold for 20 no then hung up on, called back to find they blocked my number.... I agree at the end of all this I was a bit stressed out but not using profanities or being rude with the call service people, I understand they are just doing their job however, aside from the person who cancelled my initial order there has been inadequate client care on the part of the call center, and that is a generous statement. I would appreciate a response so that this situation can be resolved in a timely manner. Thank you read more

I have always loved Safeway. It was in my hometown of Denver, CO. They were bought out. I was so happy to see the store again. Everyone is so nice and helpful. The cost, well I find it the same. I want to give the Pharmacy Staff, the Pharmacist and the entire Safeway Store and it's employees a great Thank You. I needed a prescription, and didn't actually need to do any other shopping. It was the first time using their Pharmacy so beforehand I set up my online account. It takes a little longer when it's a new Rx & I'd brought a book to pass the time while I waited rather than driving all the way home and back in the wet, windy weather. I strolled around also and every employee who saw me addressed me. "Hello, how are you." "Do you need help finding anything" etc. Very sincere and I have to say made it a pleasant wait. The only downside was when I went to the inside Starbucks as the girl was fixing the board behind the registers after seeing me standing there waiting. I stood there while she ignored me for a good 5 minutes. I really needed some coffee and a snack as my Dr's appt. had been early and I was hungry & in need of some sugar & caffeine. I'd been waiting about an hour by then. I finally walked off without saying anything. She totally ignored me. But I don't hold it against the store. Safeway has the best run pharmacy I've seen in a decade. The Pharmacist was busy and very professional, but he stopped when asked by the clerk on the procedure for inputing some proper information into my account page. He had a way about him that induces teamwork and standards. Not anything like the Pharmacy (which shall remain nameless) I'd been using for years. The clerk, who was very well spoken and friendly gave me the store discount for my medicine. They text when your Rx is ready, which is another plus. No listening for your name on the loudspeaker. I will use their Pharmacy from now on for more reasons than what I've mentioned here. I'm going to start shopping there. The bathrooms were spotless. The entire establishment was spotless. The store is also easy to find and park and the travel is expedient for me. Thanks again to the Pharmacy Staff in particular. I'm looking forward to a long business relationship there. P.S. As I was leaving a family came in with 2 children, both older than 10 with 2 grown women with absolutely no masks. I was tempted to tell someone, but I was tired and after the wait & being ignored for the caffeine boost I'd needed at Starbucks, I simply wanted to go home. I'd seen nothing but an exceptionally well run business so I assumed one of the security cameras or a member of staff noticed. I felt assured from spending time there that someone had been assigned to look for such outward acts of dismissal for the law, and for such an obscene arrogance toward any of those in danger of the Pandemic, & with absolutely no regard for any who might be in danger of being exposed including themselves and their CHILDREN. In fact, everyone in the store. I should've alerted a store employee but hope someone was dispatched to enforce the LAW. Wow! Safeway sure has changed. I know that I'm more old school, but I worked for Safeway for almost 15 years and our emphasis was on customer service. We knew customers had a choice on what stores to shop at and we appreciated that they came to us and supported our store. That in turn helped us support our families. I recently moved here to Sparks from the North Valleys and figured I'd stop in here again. Smiths is closer but I figured I'd pop into Safeway for a change. The store was neat and clean, but the staff is terrible. Not one employee greeted me or asked if they could help me find anything. I got to the checkout counter and the woman at the check stand didn't acknowledge that I was there and just started ringing up my groceries. I tried to engage her in some friendly banter and she hardly responded at all. She had a surly attitude, handed me my receipt and don't thank me or anything. Smiths greets their customers and I'm usually asked if I need help. No more Safeway for me. I don't recognize them anymore. read more

If I could rate this store a minus 0 stars or less, I would. I clipped the coupons last night for my purchases today. I went there today and they were already out of the bacon from Tuesdays ad. I made other purchases that I had clipped but they rang up full price which I didn't notice until I got to my car. I went back to the cashier and was told she had to rering up my purchases. I brought everything back in and there was another person with the same problem at the next cashier over, they charged her full price instead of the clipped price also. She didn't have to bring her groceries back to be rerung it was done off her receipt but I had to bring mine back inside. The only difference is I'm Asian and the other customer wasn't. I felt embarrassed and rudely treated and it was a very unpleasant experience. So, I returned all of my groceries and I tore up my Safeway card. There are just to many other stores that want your business for anyone to put up with this. read more

This is mainly for the Deli department. The store itself is pretty cool. It is right closet to home and specials are usually great as well. I would give it five stars but frankly the way my grocery's are bagged each time that I go is just awful. There are only two main employees who just throw the grocery's in the bags and stick hot with cold and bread with cans. Ya, no bueno. Today my grocery's were bagged perfect by a young man with glasses. Kudos to him! A lot of times I have to tell them what bags to use for cold and hot items as well as soft and hard items. Duh. The produce is amazing. Very fresh and delish. Now for the bad part. Deli customer service is the worst. Mainly it is from the male employees who act like they hate their job and look at you like your a bother. I love going here to get deli meats from Boar's Head but sometimes I would rather drive to Sprouts that is on Pyramid. I know everyone has a bad day but every time I go in to order food from the deli, I get such attitude. If you hate your job, then quit. No one is willing to pay for that. the bakery has such great sweets and treats. Frankly I am rarely disappointed when I get something from the bakery department. ya the lines can get bad at times but remember most tourists go here before heading out to their nature adventure. So my advice is not to go around 5 pm when everyone is trying to get their stuff after work. I hope that customer service improves in the Deli department because i like this store. This is the closest store to my job, so I come here frequently. I would never go to Safeway if it wasn't for proximity, just because the prices are consistently higher than Winco and Smith's. With that being said, I really wish that wasn't true because Safeway has such a great selection of goodies. Their produce section is great, their deli and bakery have all the usuals, and then some other dishes you might not expect. I've never had anything bad from a Safeway deli, and now that they are posting calories, it makes it much easier to eat within my dietary means. I don't check the calories of the soup because it's just so darn good I disregard. I will continue to go to Safeway for fruit, veggies, baked goods, and good customer service. read more

Very disappointed that they have locked up all the Protection ( condoms, and female products such as AZO for UTI. Women should never have to ask for those products. And it's sad they had to put the Baby formula in a locked cabinet as well, If someone is going to steal formula they might really just need it and a store should just let them have it so their infant doesn't starve. And my latest experience the old man cashier I had was not friendly. I moved a bag of pretzels closer on a belt he has to wipe down anyways. They have a surprisingly good ahi poke here made fresh every morning. And if you want them to make a spicy ahi just call in the morning so they can make a spicy batch of tuna. They also have a great organic fruit and vegetable selection that'll keep me coming back here. Their staff is super friendly and always willing to help. They even have that cool amazon locker grocery system here. I'm way too indecisive to order my groceries online, but it's a good think to keep in mind when wanting to shop here. I can see it coming in handy if you just need to grab groceries on a jiffy. Just pay in advanced and type in your locker code. Their prices are very reasonable here for their quality of goods. We made the mistake of putting off our Christmas grocery shopping until Christmas Eve this year and ended up having to go to multiple stores to fulfill our list. I wish we would have just gone to Safeway first! Although there were a lot of people in the store it was easy to find a parking spot and a cart right away. They weren't out of everything, as opposed to other stores and I was able to fulfill everything on my list plus more. The staff was still friendly and helpful, even though I'm sure they didn't want to be there on a holiday any more than the shoppers did! It defiantly cost a bit more than what it would have at my normal grocery store, but the convenience and experience was well worth it. Okay, I'm giving this store 3 stars because I've always found what I needed at a reasonable price or even on sale. But ohmany. The cashier, we had today on 11/19/19 was so terrible and rude. Her name was weird. On her badge it said "K. Ci" or something and she seemed like she was having a hard time cashiering because she could barely do her job. She was blatantly rude to the woman in front of us, ourselves, and people that were behind us. She yelled at the people behind us to not put all their drinks up because she only needed to scan 1 and then whispered, "whatever, make me work harder". This store is right next to my house which is the only reason I shop there. It's very rare that I go to Safeway anymore and mostly just if I need a couple things or use the bank inside. There is ALWAYS expired food! I have to check the label on everything. I've been there when every single package of bacon (in the brand I buy) is expired. Today all the Applegate pepperoni was 2 weeks expired and all the packages of popcorn were 3 weeks expired. I've complained to the manager and always tell the checkout person but nothing has changed. The fruit is not great quality and goes bad immediately. I will drive the extra distance for higher quality. read more

I try really hard not to shop at this store unless I absolutely have to even though it's only a block away from where I live. First off, the majority of their prices are pretty ridiculous. What a box of granola bars costs(full price) at Smiths or Target is going to be the sale price at Safeway. Some of their stuff I don't really mind paying a little more for, such as their meat or produce. They tend to have slightly higher quality items in those areas than I find at other stores, but not always. They also do have a lot of things that I haven't been able to find at other stores, so is one small glimmer of light in their favor. Unfortunately they seem to be out of things a lot. It can be really annoying when they're the only store I know that carries something I like and I have to wait a week or more for them to restock it. But, the biggest problem I have with this store is their employees. I can count the number of friendly employees on one hand, and I wouldn't even need all 5 fingers. Most of the cashiers are so incredibly rude, and the people who bag the groceries are so slow. At night, they put a wet floor cone in front of the lane they keep open and set some stupid little squeaky toy on top that you're supposed to squeeze to get someone to check you out. Most of the time, I end up standing up there for 5-10 minutes before anyone hears it or notices that I'm there. I've had employees walk right by me and just leave me standing there waiting. The people in produce are always blocking the aisles and the food, and they act like it's an inconvenience to them when you need to get to something that they're blocking. I wouldn't mind paying a little extra for the convenience of shopping here, but the horrible customer service has made it so that 9 times out 10 I will gladly drive 3-4 times the distance and buy lesser quality items just so I don't have to deal with the people who work here. read more

I live near this store so I do come here a lot. I've learned where pretty much everything is so it makes my shopping easy when I just need to run in and grab something. Unfortunately the prices are a little ridiculous, especially when the quality of produce is so terrible. On several occasions I have gotten home from a shopping to find that the lettuce I bought was rotten in the center. Fruit is rarely sweet or fresh tasting. It's hard to find vegetables that aren't wrinkled or soft (rotting). It's not just the produce either...I've also come home with expired canned goods as well. They normally are 6-12+ months expired. Gross. Sad that I had to start checking the expiration on every single thing I purchase now, but obviously they aren't checking or simply don't care what they are putting on the shelves. I also went once later in the evening, two employees (who looked like they could have been teenage boys) were standing near the deli throwing away old fried chicken, talking loudly...cussing and even eating the chicken they were throwing away! It wasn't a big deal really, it was just sort of shocking they'd be so loud and obnoxious with customers standing a few feet away from customers. As much as this place frustrates me I will probably be coming back. It is less than two miles from my home. I would go out to Walmart, because the prices are better, but Walmart is a zoo. I hope these guys start checking their produce and labels on the canned goods more closely! read more

Safeway is an awesome store. Lots of choices and always clean and well stocked. The employees are friendly and the bathrooms are usually clean which is a bonus in my book. They have an amazing wine section and I love that they have an olive bar in their deli area. YUM! The only complaint I have is their prices are so ridiculous. I usually only stop here if I need something that is not available at Walmart grocery or Winco. The parking lot here is pretty chaotic too. There are always a ton of cars zipping around so watch out when driving through there. read more

Problems after purchasing some fresh meats on sale from the Butcher. When I got it home I was not very happy, not very fresh or should I say rancid. Emily in the floral department of D'Andrea Safeway in Sparks is not only an excellent employee, but genuinely a really great person. I had had a particularly rough day at work when I went in to pick up balloons with my kids. When one of my children accidentally let go of the balloon in the parking lot, Emily replaced it without hesitation. But more than that, she took time to explain to my children how to wrap the balloon around their arm to prevent losing it in the future. She was very kind. This is the best store I have ever been too. I've been shopping here for 7 years and I have never been let down. The pharmacy staff are the BEST! Melony and Suzzanne are always smiling and know my family by name. They take the time to answer any questions I might have and move from behind the counter to help me find OTC meds if I cant find them. The store staff are wonderful as well. Store managers Jason and Robert are very happy and Robert is always smiling. Denise is the best courtesy clerk in the world!! Kristina in the Starbucks always greets me and knows exactly what I want to drink and makes it better than any barista in town. The selection is great - they are always stocked. Another reviewer said that Safeway is overpriced. This isnt the case. Watch the ads, use your club card and be smart with your shopping. I find that many items at Safeway are less than Walmart and you dont have to deal with the headache of parking at or walking into Walmart. It is cleaner and more upclass than Smiths, Scolaris and SaveMart. Worth every penny on higher priced items. This Safeway is the epitome of great customer service! read more

We are club card holders and my family does almost all of our shopping at Safeway. We usually fill our cart and while we are at checkout my wife pays and I take my daughter over to the floral dept for a complimentary balloon. (Kids love Balloons) Well the last time we were there the clerk at the floral deck decided to start an argument with me telling me they don't give out free balloons, they have never given out free balloons and went as far as to ask me if I was from California because she heard that they do it there and if I wanted a free balloon that I should shop there. Way to go Safeway, way to go. Its alway awesome to break a 3 year old girls heart over a $.10 piece of inflatable rubber. Don't be so cheap. read more

Needed a few things, was in the area so stopped in this store. Safeway never seems to have any real competitive prices on things I buy, in other words not cheap. We wanted to purchase something from the bakery department of which there was need for an employee's assistance. Trying to get someone's attention in the department was unsuccessful. So I found another employee and asked him to assist. He did get another from the deli and we got what we wanted and went on our way. We were told no one was working in the bakery. It took a few minutes for the person to be found and brought over to help and this gave us time to actually look over the department. Man this place needs a good scrub, what we saw could not have been the result of one days neglect. We almost left before we were actually helped, but braved it and hope we did not kill anyone that received what we bought. We are big fans of Safeway on Vista!Have been here once or twice every week for the last 15 years. It is most convenient for us. They do not rearrange the store each week. I adore every one who works here. I miss Kathy most. However, Joy, Gina, Emily and Kelly are wonderful. I cant remember everyone's name, but I see those three most. I just met Bruce on Wednesday, he is a very nice guy! I stop at Starbucks each time I shop. I am not sure what is going on with the two girls who are there during the day. They are kind and nice. But when I put a buck in the tip jar, they say nothing. Are they told not to say thank you? In the past you could not tip them per Safeway rules. I always tip them for my coffee. My husband didn't believe me, so he went yesterday, same girl, nothing! Haha! I just think its weird. One girl will give the Monopoly card, the other doesnt. I suppose they are embarrassed to get tips or they really dont want tips. Thats ok! I wouldn't want them either, just for making coffee! Jeez! Take the tip jar away! I went to the Safeway store on vista Blvd today. They are having a monopoly game and I had two coupons for two free items from the Signature kitchens brand, I did not find those items, probably because a lot of people are winning them and they ran out. ( They did not tell me that, that's just what I think. ) On my way out I asked one of the employees if they were going to be getting more of those items, she said: I don't know but let me asked Frances she will know. I like the fact that she called somebody else that could answer my question, a lot of other places they just apologize and walk away. Frances was only a few feet away from us I did not have to wait long. Frances explained to me that I could get the Signature Select brand instead of the Signature Kitchens and they will honor the coupons because they are both Safeway brands. I thank her and told her I will get them next time I'm at the store; she said: I will go get them for you, it will not take long, I told her she did not have to do that, she insisted, I said ok, she went and got them ( it did not take long ) and she took care of the transaction at the customer service desk.
