Every morning I go to Safeway before my bus ride into work. I'm a radiographer and I have a backpack that I wear to work that has my scrubs. I come into the store, purchase goods & lunch for the day, buy Starbucks, and then head to my bus. Today, in the Rainier Avenue Safeway, I was refused entry to the store and publicly humiliated. For having a backpack, I was refused entry. I believe in sustainability; wearing a backpack and using reusable bags is something I have done every day since I moved here in 2017. To be clear, I will never set foot in your store again, backpack or no backpack, after being publicly treated like a criminal. I will not buy gas there. I have diverted my prescriptions to another pharmacy. I will not buy Starbucks there again. I will not get another vaccination there. I will not give your store another dime. The receipt checking? Fine. I do that at Costco. The store-within-a-store? Mildly inconvenient, but fine. The locking up ice cream? Sure, it probably helps my figure because I would never wait for someone to open it. But actively barring me entry as if I were a criminal? Humiliating me in public? When I am one of the last few paying customers of that store? Unbelievable. Good luck sustaining the business structured by that. Like I told the staffer who barred me entry: "I guess you don't want my money." At this rate, the only people left in your store will be people who came to steal from you. read more

I was going to update my review to a better score as the inside has improved a lot now that the construction is finished. Then looking at my receipt walking out I see I got scammed by one of their deceptive labeling practices. The cereal prices say "member price, must buy two or more, mix and match", but they don't actually mean mix and match between the products all carrying that price label. Nor is there any fine print noting which subset of products qualify for the sale price. I grabbed two boxes advertising this sale price and paid full price for them both at the register. Ridiculous. The gas station is closed for gas. They could let there be someone to relieve the person working in gas station because it's 530pm and you know this is a busy time. I only had cash and watched at least 10-15 people leave upset. There is a sign that says be back in 10 but I waited 15 and never saw anyone. This is not the first time I have had to leave w no gas because they closed at an open time. read more

The pharmacy here should not be allowed to call itself a pharmacy. They are out of basic things and offer nothing more than to point out that they can't get things over the weekend. This is in response to requests for insulin and antibiotics. Neither of these things should wait 4-5 days, which seems to be their plan. I have been here many times, and have not been pleased with how slow they are and how under resourced they are. A number or reviewers refer to a Chase bank at this location. Twice in a row I've ordered groceries for pick up and have had to go inside to ask for it because they forgot to come out with my order. Just shut down this location ffs. They don't even answer the phone when you try and call regarding your order. The excuse given to me was "oh we just forgot, just go back there and someone will grab it for you." The worst grocery delivery service ever. Placed an order for delivery which was scheduled between 12-4pm. The order was delayed and I was told a new time estimate of 4:30-5pm which came and went so I chatted online and then app said by 7:15pm and I was following the delivery truck on the app. Well, at 8:30pm, over 4 hours past original delivery time, the store manager calls me to say they had a delivery driver issue and the driver had to leave for home immediately. I had literally just cancelled my order through online chat after waiting all day having paid with a gift card. The manager goes that's ok , do you still want your order because I can have it delivered to you within 30-40 minutes. I said yes at 8:10pm so order should have arrived by 9pm. Surprisingly, the order finally arrived at 10pm and it didn't even have my popsicles, raspberry sorbets, or string cheese. At least I was able to get a full refund for the order after chatting with customer service yet again and they also add 1,800 reward points plus a $10 store credit for the hassle. While I appreciate the kindness, the fact that nobody answered the phone when I called the store and the fact that the live chat associates couldn't help get the order to me any faster even after contacting the store manager about the issue, I don't recommend this store for shopping delivery because they don't care and the store always has issues with shoplifting, violence against customers, and panhandling issues right outside the front door. DO NOT SHOP AT THIS STORE IN PERSON DUE TO YOUR SAFETY OR FOR DELIVERY BECAUSE YOU WILL NEVER SEE IT!! read more

Put a custom cake/cupcake order in for my daughter's 4th birthday party. I put that order in, a week in advance. I just now got a call 2 hrs before pick up that we won't be getting a cake. The employees here are so rude it will ruin your day (KECHAR.T self checkout: argumentative, disrespectful and just flat out rude) The store is a disaster, they never have any carts, they are always sold out/low stock and they fill the shelf with products that are not on sale and don't pull old sale tags so if you didn't inspect every item you picked up you'll be paying way more than you expected. I have also seen employees from self check out running out to the parking lot accusing people of stealing while they are insisting NO and providing their receipts. I tried to avoid the chaos inside by ordering grocery pick up and I waited 35 minutes in the parking lot and the phone number you're supposed to call if you need help never gets picked up....If I could rate zero stars I would, this place needs major help! read more

Last night I went to Safeway to buy some food. I have to buy 2 bags of Chia seeds for just $5/each if you have a Safeway card or $6 if you do not. But after I paid and go outside I double-checked again they're charging me $19.98 for 2 bags of Chia Seeds. Omg, I can't believe it because this is 3 times in a month they did the same thing. I came back and told them after that they refunded me $9.98. Just wanted to warn the customer please double-check your receipt again. Some cashier are ok but someone else does not respect customers. I tried to get a walk-in Covid Booster shot there Dec 4th. I waited in line at Pick up Prescription queue and when I reached the front they told me to go wait in the Drop Off line. So I waited there and when I got to the front they said You need to wait at least 6 months from your last 2nd covid vax to get a booster. Also they are out of Booster Shots until late January at least. Two weeks later I called the pharmacy to see if they have any booster shots. They said no they don't. Then they said "Just walk in!" but as usual the shpiel was that even if you show up, they may not have any available. I went home and made an appointment for a shot on the last day of January via the internet. read more

Nothing safe about this Safeway. Every time I have been there I have to fend off the aggressive panhandlers when I walk inside and when I am leaving. They have been an absolute disaster inside the store due to some type of renovation. The lady who works at the self checkout stand is very unprofessional and she acts very rude whenever she is forced to actually work. Went to this store at 10:15 today, which was a Sunday. I was charged for 5 items when I purchased only 4. I wanted to return my items and found the customer service counter had a closed sign. So I asked the self checkout clerk who was speaking with a lady who had a name tag which said manager on duty or manager in charge where I could take a return. The clerk told me customer service opens at 11. I looked at the manager thinking that she would say, here let me take care of your return. In fact she looked at me and then walked away. This store does not present any customer service skills. It seems like every employee is angry or distracted and it definitely shows in the way that they treat their customers. I don't know why I keep coming back to this pitiful store. I try to shop at the Newcastle store as their employees are always pleasant and take good care of their customers. This Rainier Avenue store should just shut down. It is a joke to shop there and it isn't safe to go there after dark. read more

I've never seen a place get SO MANY REVIEWS, just to say how horrible it is!! Ha -Ha- ITS HILARIOUSLY AWFUL !! Thing is, it'd be a fine store if it wasn't for the loser employees. And they know who they are, and they are laughing every pay day because they treat customers with disrespect, they will ignore them when they need help, they talk to them rudely, and blatantly let you know that your presence bothers them. Dirty, expensive, terrible checkout lines, really understaffed (probably the worst Safeway I've been to). Normally safeway is fine, but this place was horrendous. I usually would just go to the Costco but its a much longer drive there. To be honest, its probably around the same time as this Safeway due to the line and I can grab lunch at the Costco. This Safeway gets so many panhandlers, it's exhausting and extremely annoying. In store too, they'll follow. Also, a security guard got shot here on March 7th, 2022. Generally clean, well-stocked store. Some nice employees, but mainly MANY surly, unfriendly ones. Not a happy place. Another big problem is the fact that there are always long lines. And don't then try the self-checkout to speed up your checkout. There are always problems there: malfunctioning machines and grouchy, non-communicative employees who will make it clear that they dislike their job or even dislike you. You will not feel welcomed or valued as a customer at this store. read more

Store has had consistently poor customer service, especially when checking out. Today we were 3rd on line when the cashier turned off their light and told us the lane was closed. Rather than either finish serving everyone in the line at that point, or put us towards the front of another line, they just told us that we had to get in another line. We had already waited at least 20 minutes to check out, and and all of the other lines were 6-10 shoppers deep. On top of this, 2 of the 4 cashier's on the open lines were not properly wearing masks. Today is the first day of Seattle's new plastic bag ban. I can deal with a plastic bag ban because it has been that way in Portland for some time now. However, the Seattle City Council in their infinite "wisdom" decided that not only were they going to ban plastic bags, they were also going to charge 5¢ per paper bag. Yes, yes, I get that it is great to bring your own bag to the store in obeisance to Mother Earth (and the Seattle City Council, because they know best). But say, what if you are out and about, and didn't know when you left home that you were going to need to shop - so you don't have a reusable bag on your person. Can I still get a bag at the store? Tough sh*t says Safeway, if you are using the self-checkout. I came here today, and there were no bags available at the self-checkout stations...of any kind. The exception was when there was an employee manning the self-check aisles - and then - you could go up and ask, please sir, may I have a bag. However, if you want a paper bag, it won't have handles. (Note to Safeway: consult with New Seasons, Whole Foods and Fred Meyer; they have bags with handles). And Safeway's "eco" green bag is the size of a purse. Real practical. If the attendant is not available, you are out of luck. No bag for you. Since I only returned to this Safeway in the past couple years because they put back in the self-checkout - now that getting a suitable bag for my groceries is such a hassle - I'm done shopping here. In this brave new world that we live, I've learned that to survive, I must buy my booze and groceries in Portland for trips to Seattle. read more

This is the only Safeway that I know of that carries extra large avocados!! They are just right so you don't have to wait for it to get ripe. So I only shop here when I'm visiting my parents. This used to be my go to grocery store, I wasn't afraid to shop here back in the days. But recently, I was scared for my life when I decided to pop in for some avocados! There where weird people standing outside the store, smokers and people bumping loud music in their car. I'm not against it by all means, just caught my attention and I feel a tad bit out of place. This Safeway is far from my favorite but there are some stellar things inside. 1. Deli Chinese Food- for whatever reason, the Chinese food here rocks much more than a Safeway would normally, I hear rumours of an authentic Chinese chef that works here but nothing has been confirmed, I just know that I like the food if it's fresh. If it's not, I pass. 2. Bag Boys- I did the unthinkable and left my purse in the cart, the wonderful cart-wrangling bag boy took it and safely delivered it to Customer Service. I love him. Seriously. A million stars for him 3. Checkers- Normally, I have had super friendly, funny and a few times MEGA hot checkers here. What I don't like: 1. The Bakery- Both in selection and attitude, this bakery department is majorly lacking - 10 negative stars for them and their inability to call until the morning of a cake pick up to tell me they don't have the correct parts to make the cake we ordered. Luckily, this wasn't for a birthday but a special treat that could be rescheduled when the parts were available at another Safeway. Also negative stars for having to ask for a cookie and being grumpily given one if at all. And even more negative stars that they are often not well stocked and finding someone back there can be impossible. 2. Being Harassed In Front of the Store- they allow many different groups to gather and harrass me in front of the store, to which I say: no thank you. read more

This is a nice Safeway with a very large assortment of items. I mean they even have special tomato sauce and gnocchi from Brooklyn! The renovations seem to be over and I think things are settling back into where they are going to be in the future. I find it slightly odd that they have a super-secure area in the middle of the store to sell diapers and alcohol from but since I don't really buy either I just avoid it. All the folks who work there are very nice. The parking lot leaves a lot to be desired but that certainly isn't their problem. That's more of a city-wide issue. read more

I call it the Super Mondo Massive Safeway. Maybe it's not really that big but it seems huge and overwhelming. But unlike some SafeWays they really do have a lot of everything. Good international section(espcially Hispanic), bulk foods, better than average deli and excellent meat. Safeway always has the best bargain priced meats, but this store always has good quality cuts on deep discounts. I scored some fantastic New York Strips for 6 bucks each the other day, It's always crazy busy but somehow the checkers manage to wiz people through the line in a friendly and efficient way. read more

This Safeway is MILES above the other safeways in the area and I feel that it deserves so much more of a high rating. The store itself is very large, with great selection as well as a starbucks, pharmacy, bakery and bank inside. I have never found anything dirty / expired / old / or just outright gross which already places this location way above the safeway on MLK. The staff have always been very friendly to me and there are ample check-out lines / self service to keep the lines moving. I honestly have no complaints. I am a big fan of safeway stores and this location is no exception. Parking: Large parking lot just out front. Also, this location offers safeway gas which is another plus! read more

Duvall Safeway ....long lines, no customer service. I just bought a couple of t-bone steaks. Cooked perfectly to 120 degrees then set to rest and they were as tough as the bottom of a shoe. DON'T BUY STEAK AT SAFEWAY!!! The steaks they sell are the cheapest quality known to man. I have had bear steaks that taste and are more tender than these steaks from safeway. Our dog did like me getting the steaks because they were barely good enough for him to have. Avoid this store at all costs!!!! Produce it super old, use it that day or it will turn rancid the next day. Strawberries have some good ones on the top of the package and rotten ones on the bottom. Taco shells are old and taste like crap....we had 3 different brands one day and they all tasted like rubber. SHAME ON YOU SAFEWAY FOR SELLING SUCH CRAPPY FOOD!!!! read more

I am so frustrated. I went through the self check out Lane and the machines are terrible. They were laggy. They constantly locked up and the attendent constantly had to verify my groceries we're in the designated area. This led to a long line for the self checkout stations, much longer than any other grocery store I've seen in Seattle. I am irate. read more

I don't think it's a good sign when you ask an employee at a grocery store where something is, and the employee doesn't know how to answer. Also, I would expect some long lines at some of the checkout counters. I think many of the customers here pay with cash. Also, some customers will contest that they should have gotten more money taken off their bill, etc. etc. It's not necessarily Safeway's fault, but it does make for a somewhat infuriating shopping trip. read more
