NEVER PURCHASE ANY OF THE MEAT PRODUCT HERE!! I bought some pig ears two months before and left them in my refrigeratory for two days. I opened it on the third day, it already stinky. I thought that might be my bad that I didn't keep them on the freezer. However, I bought a package of pig ears again yesterday the 8/14/2018, and I put them in the freezer as soon as I back home, one day later when I opened it I found the ears already rotten and stinky. Decent Asian supermarket on Jackson. It is one of the ones that is closer in location to the Chinatown part of the ID. Dong Hing, not to be confused with Dong Sing Market is a medium sized grocery. There is a seafood selection in the back and a fairly sizable meat selection here. Grocery section seems a bit smaller than Hau Hau and Viet Wah but sufficient. Like those shops, it can get crowded as the spacing is a bit tight here. Produce selection is good. It seems to be of better quality compared with a few of the other places. Prices though seem a a couple cents higher here, but I will pay willingly for a fresher product. ID produce prices are relatively cheap compared to mainstream competitors like Safeway and QFC. I do also like that they have a parking lot next to the building. It is a bit difficult to exit though when you do as it is right off the hubbub of Jackson. Overall, I like Dong Hing. It is relatively cleaner than a few of the other shops in the area, but you will still need to endure the crowds. Still good Asian finds to be had here. read more

This store is awesome. They have a HUGE selection of veggies for Asian cooking. And fresh too! Lovely lookin' produce! I'm definitely coming here for the Asian veggies (vs. Uwaji's). I passed by their seafood section in the back. There were a few flies swarming, but not a lot...? There are some live seafood as well, some fishie swimming around. I didn't walk around past the seafood, but I'm guessing meat department? I don't know. They have some dry goods as well, but I'm most impressed with their produce. read more

Dong Hing is not a destination. If you don't live in the immediate area, do not put Dong Hing on your list of things to do. That said, if you live close by, or are just driving by, it's a great place to get cheap produce, meat and soup bones for your dog. Or for soup. It an unassuming little store stocked to the gills with everything I need to make a quick healthy dinner. It's become my quick stop on the way home from work and to pick up something new and fun to try such as fragrant pears which is now my new favorite pear. The lines are never that long, it's a much less expensive and productive stop than Viet Wah, or Uwajimaya and does not tempt you with all the fancy things you do not need. So, let's raise a glass for Dong Hing. A store that you can drop $5, go home and make some ginger lemon tea and a decent stir fry. read more

Both packages have labels indicate they have been pack earlier today. When I open it then I realize that they put spoiled meat underneath the fresh piece. This market is packed with so much..... STUFF. It's not the biggest market around, but there's so much packed in there, it probably has everything the other larger markets have. The prices looked reasonable. I came here with my super frugal mom- so it MUST be reasonable. They have a seafood section with live fish and other seafood. There's a butcher department and aisles of meat and non-perishable foods. I'm surprised they even have shopping carts. One shopping cart in the aisle and no one else is getting through. Overall, it's a good market with quite a large selection for it's size. read more

So we're new to the area, recent Chicago transplants, and we are officially on the hunt for new grocery stores to replace our beloved Chicago Chinatown establishments. When you walk into the Dong Hing Market you're immediately met with an overabundance of fresh Asian vegetables. They're at a great price (comparable to better than other places in Renton and Seattle), they're really fresh, and they honestly look great. You walk to the back, and you run into GIANT fishtanks filled with fresh live fish, lobsters and crabs. And you find out that they're willing to clean whatever you would like for free. Then you walk to the right and then BAM. Meat so fresh that there are four guys butchering it while we're there. It's a great market and great find. It's honestly a little mind boggling that they can fit so much into that small box of a store. Notes/Cons: The aisles are so narrow that if you have a shopping cart, you're probably going to end up blocking someone off at some time. And the parking lot is so poorly designed that if your car gets dinged here, you honestly shouldn't be surprised. read more

But it is very crowded--the inside is about the size of a living room--and there is almost always a line at the cash register. Very hard-working people, if not the friendliest. If you're even more adventurous, try the larger groceries further east on S. Jackson (above I-5) up to the supermarkets at 12th Avenue S. Even lower prices. A grocery experience similar to going to a market in East or, especially, Southeast Asia. read more

You wanna find out where are the best places to eat and shop in Chinatown? Hang out with your geriatric aunt one afternoon and shuffle behind her as she insists on smelling every piece of produce in the store, then explaining how each one should be prepared and cooked. This is how I ended up at Dong Hing - a rather inconspicuous market on Jackson totally packed with stuff at very reasonable prices. Having been to other Asian markets, I was surprised at how the meats were pretty fresh. My aunt went there specifically to buy some whole chickens which looked pretty damn fresh (though I'm not connoisseur of fresh chickens, only the ones that have been cooked). I rarely go to Chinatown for groceries, but if I'm in the neighborhood next time, I'll certainly stop by and see what Dong Hing has. read more

I feel so privileged that this place is a few blocks from my house. The PRICES are down right CHEAP! You can get a giant package of boneless skinless chicken for about half the price of Safeway or QFC! They have great meat selections --baby back ricks, shrimp, hamburger, and live/fresh seafood. Plus, the produce is fantastic. You won't find everything on your grocery list --but what you save makes up for the extra trip! Stop number 2 on our trip to find a decent Chinatown grocery store. This one was a swing and a miss. The prices were decent, but it was a bit dirty and dingy. They have a lot of fresh fish, and there's a team of 3 behind a counter butchering fresh pork, beef and chicken. Given the plethora of other Asian grocers in the Seattle area, and the rest of King County, Dong Hing really doesn't offer anything special or different. Also, the parking is atrocious. There's a lot that's too small to turn around in, that can hold about 10 cars. Not bad, but also not unique - it just doesn't really stand out. read more

What it lacks in cleanliness and friendly service, it makes up for in insanely cheap meat. I once bought two full grocery bags filled with everything from flank steak to pork chops for $30, and the quality was just as good if not better than the meat you'd find at a large market. I'm pretty bitter about my shopping trip here. My mom took me here and said the produce can be a little more expensive but it's better quality. I don't know what she's comparing to because it seemed to me, it was just the opposite! My green onions went bad and dried out in 4-5 days which has *never* happened to me. My cilantro I finished right around he 7 day mark when it was almost ready to go bad. The assorted Asian herbs was mush by day 7. The lemons and limes are on day 13 or so and they are on their way out. I don't know how long everyone else lets their produce sit but my produce from HT Market, Trader Joe's and Viet Wah last longer! I think you get the idea. I won't be back. read more

Its nice that there is usually always parking next to the market but small parking lot + Asian drivers... Dong Hing is always busy with so many shoppers. Parking is limited with ten or fifteen spaces to the left of the store. Good prices of fruits and veggies that are a bit cheaper than national grocery stores and Uwajimaya a couple blocks away. Cleaner than Hau Hau, Dong Sing and Seattle Supermarket. The cashier was really rude to me. She got on her iPhone and didn't scan my item at the register, she just put it to the side. I kept trying to give her my debit card, but she waved me away saying it's a $5.00 minimum to use a card. As others have mentioned, the produce is super cheap. Amazing prices on the items I tend to be frequently: green onion, yellow onion, garlic, mushrooms. The sprouts are also super cheap. Don't miss the $1.00 clearance carts outside on the sidewalk. The'yre worth a look if you don't mind having to trim up a bit. I've picked up some real bargains from those bins: 2 lbs of zuchinni, 8-12 oz of mushrooms, a pile of green beans. You may have to trim some bits off the some of the produce in the $1.00 packages, but it is still definitely worth it. The meat prices are really great also.They have a butcher area in the back corner where the meat is cut and packaged on site. You can find unusual meat cuts here. However, don't bother with the what they call a rib eye steak: that was no rib eye. I haven't been impressed with the beef cuts; stick with the chicken. Also for you liver lovers out there (which I'm not!) there's always fresh liver available. I haven't bought any fish/seafood there yet, but I see lots of people buying at the fish counter. Finally, I can't say enough about the frozen potstickers. They are delicious and so cheap you will never order them. Microwave them to heat defrost, then throw in a pan with a little bit of oil to brown them up. An entire package of those gems costs less than $4.00 and you get something like 20 - 30, depending on whether you're buying the "jumbo" or regular size. read more

My mom has been to Dong Hing before and she encountered very bad service from the cashiers and even the owner herself. They have bad attitude and service, including high prices and even ocassionally selling expired items to their customers. Please reconsider next time anyone wants to visit there. read more
