I really don't like to leave 1-star reviews, but this Safeway warrants it. The employees never smile, and it appears they hate their customers. Not what they say, but the body language and smirks come across loudly. Today I needed some diet coke for our 250th America party, and the tag said, and in very small letters, buy 2 (12-packs) get 2 free. So when I rang them up, it came to $50. I called the attendant at the self-service over and she says I need a coupon for that. I said, well at Fred Meyer, the savings are automatic, to which she replied snootily, "Well, this isn't Fred Meyer". So I told her, well I guess I'll go there, won't I. I raised my voice and said, why do you people hate your customers so much? She didn't even bother using her tag or bar code or other coupon to get me out the door. What's even more incredulous, they keep the north door shut all day and night to customers, forcing them to go another 100 yards to the south door, but I see the staff use it all the time for THEIR convenience, coming in and going out, and going out the inside "in only" doors setting off the alarm every 10 seconds. It's right by the deli, so trying to enjoy your meal with that going off. "Rules for thee but not for me." You don't have to roll out the red carpet for me, but just basic common courtesy, like leaving both doors open and being nice to the customers. So, after 96 years of my family shopping at Safeway, I am ending a nearly century-long tradition and buying my groceries now exclusively from either Fred Meyer or QFC, but never again Safeway. This used to be a better Safeway but now it feels pretty crummy. There's garbage in the parking lot and trash on the floor. Woman who tends the self pay would rather talk to her coworkers than help customers. I've seen staff ignore the paper on the floor and empty cups on the shelves. I wrote to their corporate office but they didn't respond. It's mismanaged and it's going downhill by the minute. 3 pharmacies in this area have closed so now Safeway is the only one around and since they are getting more business they should be upping their game. Just a quick stop here during the evening on Friday night around 8pm. There was a healthy amount of people here. Perhaps around 20 people. Most of them were using baskets and not carts. I needed about 15 items. A few organic vegetables, some wine, dessert, chips, and deli items. For the most part, they all seemed to be in pretty decent shape. Nothing really was spoiled or overly ripped. Even the bananas were green turning yellow. Usually when you pick potatoes or onions, flies or gnats emerges but not this time. Although the deli section was pretty much depleted, they did have a few items still available for the late night munchers. The meats section was pretty sad. They didn't much left. Most notably this night the ground turkeys and the steaks were out of stock. If you're looking to purchase alcohol, buy all your other items first and leave that for last. You'll have to purchase your alcohol in that section. It's only accessible from the front of the store and the alcohol section is located in the middle of the store. Good size parking lot but not huge. I pass by it all the time and never seems terribly busy. Solid location. Nice staff. Good lighting inside. Not so much in the parking lot. read more

I had a rude experiences at customer service, with the blonde lady. The next week I came in and the cashier a slender older man was rude up my items, he was rushing and handling my groceries without care. I had typed in my number, tapped my card. For some reason the number didn't go through and I was charged the non sale prices. In a scolding tone he said that I should have made sure my number was put in before I paid. I told him that I did type it in. Safeway grocery stores are the only places where I shop. He then directed me to customer service and his words maybe they can help with a refund. Again, I had to go back to that same lady that I had dealt with the week before. Her tone was off, seemed like it was difficult. She tried to tell me that I didn't have a rewards number under my telephone number. I pulled up the app and showed her. Reluctantly it was then fixed and the price was adjusted to the sale price. I left feeling a bit hurt, I was disappointed that I was treated that way. I decided to call customer service to make a complaint. I spoke with a very nice gentleman. I explained in depth about two interactions I had with the two cashiers. He apologized notated everything and assured me a manager from that store would give me a call. I did not receive a call. Due to the convenience I've been there several times without issues, but I stay away from those two cashiers. read more

The meat department here is sub par. We purchased wagyu steaks that were sold as fresh on sale but once opened it was clear they were spoiled. We will not buy meat here in the future. read more

The security you hired are terrible with communications. I came by on my way to the airport to grab a drink and also use restroom. I ask for the direction of the restroom and they said "No public restroom" I'm a paying customer. I let them know that. And they repeated "no public restroom" then they said "you can ask another staff" I asked. And the other staff tells me. The restroom is currently out of order due to a recent incident. There's no access to it. I thanked the staff. Got my drink and left. No issues with the explanation. Never been to a supermarket that didn't have restrooms for customers. read more

Oh boy. Just when you think your local grocery store isn't much of an improvement and then you visit a South Seattle Safeway... Better yet - maybe don't. We were visiting friends who recently moved to a brand new home in White Center and rode along while they picked up some items at the store. It was later in the day, around 8pm, and most everything was locked up. In fact, I've never seen a Safeway so locked. Even our sketchiest spots in Bakersfield don't have this much tucked away! The service was poor and incredibly unfriendly. For being a smaller Safeway that borders on being a neighborhood grocery store you'd think they would at least be friendly. But nope. This is one shopping trip I couldn't wait to be done with! read more

Sadly it's my closest grocery store; it used to be all right, but it's gotten worse and worse. More and more things are locked up or in a special section: cleaning products, personal care, alcohol of course, and ice cream. The stuff in the center "forbidden zone" section is at least accessible, and since there's usually no one manning the special checkout, you can grab what you need and go to the regular checkout with the rest of your groceries. But if you want something locked up, and you have to wait for someone to unlock it...well, don't hold your breath. Since the store is chronically understaffed, no one will come along (at least for the 20 minutes that I waited!). Don't bother mentioning it at the checkout, because they will not be interested in your experience. And speaking of the checkout, when it's not staffed by a tired and annoyed worker, it's that one guy who is clearly on the spectrum and asks, in a monotone, "Findeverythingyouneeded?" Which, if you answer no, will garner nothing but silence from him, as this is just part of the routine and not meant as an actual query. I gave them a second star for recently purchasing more carts, which is useful, since the staff whose job it is to round up carts from the parking lot are usually too busy on their phones, talking to each other, or...not rounding up carts. No one stocks up the hand/cart cleaning station, so be glad you get a sticky cart because it's better than no cart at all. The produce is of varying quality, and usually not great. Meat department is hard to judge since there's usually no one there to help you anyway. The lady who works the deli is one of the few nice folks there. And the one security guard just hangs out at the front, or chats with his buddies...I can't tell you how many times I've watched people walk out with unpaid stuff. And that's why everything is locked up. read more

I usually go to the Safeway in West Seattle (Jefferson Square), but I think this store is so much better! It is a little difficult entering and exiting the parking lot if you are going westbound, but otherwise everything is great. The parking lot is huge and the spaces are reasonably sized. There is also a Safeway gas station next door, which is handy since you can get a discount on gas with your Safeway Club card. I was looking for ingredients to make a cake, and I found almost everything on my list, including mochi flour! The recipe I was using called for optional Pop Rocks, which I couldn't find, but that wasn't a big deal to me. In general, I thought the store was bright, clean, well stocked, and the aisles were very wide! The other customers seemed nice and it wasn't very busy at all. No workers talked to me directly, but I didn't need any help. I used the self-checkout kiosk and it was a nice experience. I plan to come here more often! read more

Good luck with the panhandlers. Expect to run the gamut if you HAVE to go into the store. People just walk out without paying, somewhat understandable at these prices. Worst Safeway in Seattle. Horrible customer service (blonde)woman at customer service desk. Always rude and never friendly. I and another person behind me stood in line for 10 minutes as she spent talking to the customer ahead of us about the mask she always wears for Covid. Lol. When it was finally my turn, she says "and you two standing here when I clearly have a closed sign up, I have a meeting to get to!" So rude. I didn't notice the closed sign. Assumed she was open since she was waiting on a customer. She didn't have the courtesy to let us know she was closed beforehand....just let us stand there! I think she was looking for an excuse to be her usual rude self. I asked for a supervisor whose name is CANDY! She was just as rude as the blonde one. They obviously stick up for each other and don't care about customer service whatsoever. Neither one of these two belong in customer service! I will never return to this store. Oh, and the reason I was there was because I picked up my grocery order the day before and received a lb. of premade burgers that expired 5 DAYS AGO! Never got a refund because they are so damn rude. It's no wonder this store only has 2.5 stars! It should be zero stars! read more

Don't ever route your fedex packages here. Their customer service desk doesn't open until 10 frigging 30. Lazy rude employees who can't be bothered to help customers who just want their packages before the store is swamped. I'll literally just never pick up the packages because this place isn't worth my headache. read more

Why oh Why do they NOT instruct their baggers on how to pack properly!?!?! I go to the West Seattle Safeway on 28th cuz it's the biggest one in W.Sea The last time I was there I brought my own bags and told them I did not want plastic one, when the bagger started using plastic ones, I nicely said please no plastic and she very rudely said "Well what do you want me to do??!!" I looked at the bags she had packed and they were so poorly done I started rebagging, as there was plenty of room in them, which made her even madder and she said, Pack them yourself then!" I was there again today and unfortunately got the same gal, she again packed them poorly and put my Oven roasted chicken on the bottom of a bag with several cans on top of it, which crushed the chicken. AND she put a carton of eggs, on it's side flap down, in a bag Also with items on top. When I got to my car I saw that the carton was open and eggs were falling out, I lost 3 ! From the outside, you don't think too much of this place- it's Seattle. The store is open 24 hours, which is great in my book. The parking lot is spacious, and they have a fully upgrade gas station with all the bells and whistles. Other than that, this is your traditional Safeway. Groceries, frozen foods, floral department, pharmacy, and a liquor section. The mix of shoppers can also vary the attitudes of the staff. Especially the ones that will ring up your items. Maybe that person just got chewed out for something really dumb and out of their control, like an expired coupon that someone wanted to use. Some reviews are understandable about the customer service. But some don't think about how these people are treated sometimes. As a person who has worked retail before, customers can be really mean at times and really make you upset, ruin your day, or even make some people cry. Now, if this person intentionally gave you horrible service, texted on their phone while working in front of you, and was just straight up rude, then that's another thing. You can tell the difference. Customer service goes 50/50. read more

What do you say about a Safeway? It's just another Safeway and similar to a QFC where if you don't have a rewards card, you're going to get screwed. The trick to going to Safeway is using the rewards card and going for the 2 for 1 specials where you can get 50% or more off. I've scored on a few things using this strategy and typically have 25% off my total bill by using their rewards card and 10 cents off on gasoline purchases. Another great find at this Safeway is the deli and they make all that good fried food you can take home. They will make you fried chicken livers that takes about 10 minutes that are incredibly good and they have gizzards too. On Mondays they have the 4 and/or 8 piece baked or fried chicken specials where it's 1/2 price. By 6PM they are sold out almost because of the run on this place for the fried/baked chicken. This is my go-to place for all the food you shouldn't be eating regularly; corn dogs, chips, beer, ice cream and fried chicken. But, hey I come here when there's the need. read more

Great half off section, however the checkers clearly are not trained on how to apply discounts. When you scan 6 identical items and then scan the 50% off coupon, it only applies 50% off to that last item. Also counting helps, don't charge me for 3 pies when there are clearly only two. read more

This has to be the worst Safeway in the area. Carts are always in the parking lot and not in the store. There are never enough checkers, the lines are always up the the aisles. There are never courtesy clecks to bag your groceries. The service center never appears to be open. They always seem to be out of the things you need. I like the Safeway stores, although this one is the closest to me I try to go other stores out of the area. read more

The store looked well kept and I saw many friendly workers in the front. I had a horrendous experience trying to get my covid vaccine here where I was essentially called a liar and someone who scammed the system. They would not accept the proof I had to validate my eligibility but were unable to tell me what they would accept. After over 20 minutes of being told I didn't have what they wanted, being ignored, and being treated so rudely I was told "I guess that'll do" after my director sent over a letter. This store has really gone downhill. Customer service is terrible. The deli is awful. They sold us chicken that was very dry, cold. And mostly breading. I just moved to south seattle and this is the closest full grocery store. I ran here in a pinch and will not be back. With the covid 19 situation they weren't doing anything to limit the people in the store or enforcing social distancing. There were children running around everywhere getting in your personal space, people unaware talking with their phone touching their face, no one sanitizing carts carts. Also, the store is WAY overpriced, you should just save yourself trouble and go to Whole Foods instead. I wish I would have just left instead of staying and doing my shopping. read more

For the neighborhood, this is a very popular every day grocery. QFC in Westwood Village is a step up, Saars on 16th a step down. The place can get crowded, with tight parking (although a huge lot) and long checkout lines. They have most of what I need in one spot for "general" shopping and on the whole quality is fine. Bank, gas station, pharmacy, Starbucks, deli, floral, bakery, meat/seafood, organic produce, and videos (who rents these anymore - hello, get a red box and get rid of those racks!). Gas here is usually a little cheaper than to the North as it is outside the City of Seattle's limits and their higher tax rate. Also, no bag charge, but still lots of people bringing their own in. Are you safe shopping here? Yes, coming into diverse Rat City can be a culture shock, but you'll be fine. read more

I go here because it's close to my house. I hate getting groceries, so this place is quick to get to, one burden off. Mostly the staff here is friendly, with some occasion at the deli they seem to be understaffed sometimes and a bit overwhelmed buts ok. Also it is a huge store with quite the assortment. I like to safe some bucks on getting gas via their points I get to collect, so their attached gas station is a plus. What I don't like, since a month or so they took away the antipasti bar with olives and stuff, where you could serve your self. They told me it was because of the big mess it makes but I'm not happy about it having to stand in line now at the deli to get some olives (I'm an antipasti fan and buy it every time). Also the selection got ridiculous small. From like 10 different kinds it shrunk down to only 2. Also I have to bother them to make sure to pick out only what I want (the peppers and olives in the lemon mix but not so much the feta cheese etc), and I feel like I am bothering them with that. I wish I wouldn't have to do that and could pick it myself again. Also another quite annoying thing there is at the parking. Regularly when I get out of my car, a homeless person (often the same guy with his "wife" and their car) jumps up to me in the dark and telling me, he and his wife are homeless etc, or when you come out to load your groceries in the car they pop up and stand right next to you (in the dark), which makes me feel real uncomfortable. I don't know if Safeway can do something about it at all, or does the parking belong to the city and every homeless person may hang out there and bother customer? This quite sucks. I know there are food banks around, so if they would be just hungry they could go get help there instead but they look like they need money for drugs or alcohol. read more

Hi there...I just went to the Safeway on Roxbury (edge of West Seattle) What is going on with this store. Womens bathroom dirty and disgusting. No toilet seat covers at all the stalls. As I was checking out I told the checker about the bathroom and she advised that their bathroom also does NOT have toilet seat covers. The worst is that I forgot my bags and as the checker is using plastic bags I asked could I have paper. What What...is happening with this store they are OUT of paper bags...not a good day using their restroom... read more

I have ordered party packs from the deli twice and both times they missed my order and did not have it ready even though I stopped in and called! Not to mention more often than not, people are rude. I'd rather pay slightly more to the nice people at QFC. read more
