The pharmacist would not fill my elderly mothers pain medication! He asked me to speak to him in a private room where he asked many questions about why she was getting this medication. He then requested her surgeon to call (this was after 5pm on a Friday night). We had the surgeon call him and then the pharmacist told us that the surgeon said not to fill the pain medication. Again, we get ahold of the surgeon who verified he did not tell the pharmacist this! The surgeon called him again to get the medication filled. In the meantime, my elderly mother was in immense pain. This pharmacist is incompetent and not truthful. If you want to use the Safeway Pharmacy, try the one on East Cypress instead. read more

Safeway used to be where i would get groceries but now its surrounded by homeless. I switched to savemart much cleaner and safer.

Aside from all the homeless people and the "security guard" at the door of Safeway.... more employees have their masks on incorrectly than there are employees wearing them correctly. The social distancing stickers on the floor don't too much matter if you're bagging groceries with a mask on your chin. Also, when my husband simply told an employee that her masks wasn't being worn correctly she legitimately called him an "asshole" loud and clear. And the manager nearby said nothing. The employee works in the floral department or was that day. So while your sniffing any flowers you purchased... hope that she doesn't have covid because the flowers you're toting home are probably pollinated with covid. Clearly, Safeway doesn't instruct their employees to do the right thing. And they certainly don't reprimand their employees for acting like complete disrespectful trash. I will say there a few employees who do what their supposed to do and play their part in keeping people safe. read more

Pharmacist is incompetent, lazy & rude. Billed the wrong insurance for the past 6 months. Every month, I get my pain medication late. Finally got my insurance rep to talk to the pharmacist. He didn't even know what the rejection code was! My rep told him she'd call back after she got the info for him. When she called back, he hung up on her, then left for lunch before she could call back--15 minutes before lunch. They seem unable to keep staff at this pharmacy, and my guess is: they can't handle dealing with incompetent management, either. read more

After an hour of slowly and painfully grocery shopping (and picking up pain meds from the pharmacy), I came to September's lane. I didn't see Kya at first, so as I started slowly unloading my cart, I mentioned that I would need help out when we were done because I had thrown my back out on Sunday. I didn't get very far when they offered to help unload the cart. I was so grateful for the offer, because it's really hard to ask for help when you're so used to being able to do things on your own. I'm SUPER impressed by these ladies. I would actually love for my daughter to get a job here so that she can have coworkers like them to learn from. read more

After Owens closed, I switched to Safeway pharmacy because CVS is the worst pharmacy EVER & Safeway was the only other pharmacy close to my home. CVS is still worse, but not by much--and when it comes to utter rudeness and really poor customer service, I think Safeway is worse than CVS. According to CVS records, my refills were sent to this Safeway on November 13, 2019 at 8:09 a.m. Yet EVERY SINGLE TIME I try to refill a prescription, they say they don't have it. Literally EVERY TIME. If I call to find out if my refill is ready, the workers snap at me for not waiting for a text. But if I wait for them to text me, they don't seem to get around to actually refilling it. (Katrine or Katrina is the WORST, most rude & incompetent worker I've encountered & of course, she's the one who always seems to answer the phone.) I've been trying to refill my seizure medication for days now. Once again, when I called Safeway, they claimed they hadn't received the refills from CVS--even though my care provider & I are pretty sure I've refilled that prescription several times since I switched over. (I have a brain tumor & take numerous medications so it's sometimes hard to keep track, but I've taken that medication every day since Nov. & I only get one month's supply of pills at a time.) They told me they'd have to call my doc for a new script. My cat had just died the day before, so I was too upset to argue about it. I've waiting for days to hear from them. I've had at least one petit mal seizure from missing my medication. I couldn't even be in the same room with a TV for days because everything has been setting me off, but I waited because I didn't feel up to being verbally abused by Safeway staff if I called to find out what was going on. Today, I finally reached the point where I felt so bad, I HAD to get my medication. So I called Safeway & got the dreaded witch Katrina, who unsurprisingly was as rude as possible. She gave me the usual cock & bull about how CVS failed to send over the refills. I recited the date & time my refills were sent. She snapped, "I don't care what CVS says. Your prescription will be ready in an hour." She was so incredibly rude, I started to ask to speak to a manager but she hung up on me. This also meant my medication has been there for some unknown amount of time, but they never bothered filling it until I called. So I reached my limit & called back immediately. Someone picked up the phone, and without speaking a word, hung up again. (I'm betting it was K., hoping I'd give up & she'd get away with her meanness.) When someone finally answered (I think it was the same girl, because she didn't give her name & was uber fake-sweet like a cloying saccharine overdose), I was put on hold. Repeatedly. Twice, the phone itself put me back on hold. The third time, I got a person (rude female, so probably K. again) who told me the manager was busy with another customer. I said I'd wait, and started this review until, finally, a Mr. Li answered. I tried very hard to remain polite, despite my anger & frustration. I explained that I'd switch to another pharmacy if I could, but since it's the only pharmacy close to my home & my care provider can't afford the gas to drive across town every time one of my many prescriptions comes up, I'm stuck with them. He tried to make excuses about how slammed they are because Owens closed, but I explained that my father used to own a pharmacy so I know there's absolutely no excuse for this kind of incompetence & rude service--especially since it's now near the end of February and my prescriptions were sent over in the middle of November! There is NO EXCUSE for Safeway workers to behave this way. It doesn't matter if you're swamped, you do your job & get the prescriptions ready for the PEOPLE WHO NEED THEM. If you want to work in a pharmacy, you need to understand that doctors prescribe medication for good reason, and if the pharmacy doesn't do its job, it's interfering with the medical treatment of a human being, some of whom (like myself) have life-threatening conditions such as cancer, diabetes, epilepsy, and other serious illnesses. Maybe most of the people coming in aren't in any danger of dying soon, but SOME are in serious jeopardy if they don't get their PRESCRIBED medication in time, so if you don't care about people enough to take your job seriously, then FIND SOME OTHER LINE OF WORK! Yes, Katrina or Katrine or whatever your name is, I'm speaking DIRECTLY TO YOU! I'm sorry you hate your job, but that's not an excuse to treat sick people like dirt. I think you're mistaken about our roles: I am profit, and YOU are overhead. Take a few pounds of pressure off your over-inflated ego and behave like an adult. That means doing your job so people don't miss necessary medication. If there is any other pharmacy near where you live, I urge you to avoid this particular Safeway pharmacy. If there were another alternative for me, I'd be gone in a heartbeat read more

The Safeway on Pine St. has the best pharmacists. They handle an economically diverse population. They are professional and they help you find better price for medications (GoodRX, etc.) There is a descent waiting area to the side or you can check out the wine specials while waiting for your prescriptions. They do take an hour lunch so find out their times. Some mornings they are open earlier for silver citizens. read more

I really hope Safeway's management team sees this review! I was searching for fruit as I haven't been wanting many foods being pregnant. An employee asked if I was finding everything okay and I asked about the fruit bowls, as there weren't many. Trevor stopped what he was doing and personally made me a fruit medley bowl and found us a few minutes later and gave it to us! Thanks so much! I had my prescriptions filled Saturday, but only got a partial refill because the pharmacy did not have enough. So I drove the 16 miles today, only to find the pharmacy CLOSED for lunch ! I'm going out of town tomorrow so now have to sit and wait for my medication which should have been filled on Saturday. The pharmacy reopens after lunch at 2PM. The pharmacist told me that they are really busy today (not my fault, but apparently my problem) and that it would be 20 minutes. I again went to my car to wait. I waited until 2:50, and they never sent a text saying my prescription is ready. I left. I will be looking for a new pharmacy. I was under the impression that a store, pharmacy, whatever, is there to provide a service for consumers. I don't think that my needs are unreasonable, and I was nice and polite. Even though this store is conveniently close , it is terrible. Last night I ordered a Turkey Pesto sandwich AND when I opened it at home, there was no turkey. There wasn't a crowd at the deli so there is absolutely no reason for this. I can't get through to customer service on the phone. It's a shame that such a convenient store has so many problems, including transients. I imagine soon the shoppers will be "patted down" before entering. Is it possible that the Albertson's merger can improve the store? I hope so. read more

I've often shopped at this location, but like others have said, the transients are intimidating. I decided to stop by recently and noticed the security guards on duty. They were present in the store & the parking lot. As I left the store, I was approached very discreetly for a handout... I of course told him no and once he left, I caught the eye of the SG and he was there quickly and walked him off the lot. Foods are fresh, prices are acceptable, not Winco prices, but quality is important to me. read more

The primary reason for my review is because of the excellent service I have consistently received in the deli department for the past 6+ times I have been coming to here. Brenda, Michelle and Lindsay always greet the customers with a smile and are just the sweetest ladies. The Safeway in Chico has grumpy ladies working there so it is nice to come here and experience a positive difference in the staff (there is one more woman with blonde hair....I can't seem to remember her name..). I will say that Safeway is with in my top 3 places to get a sandwich from...and I am very picky when it comes to good quality sandwiches! The sandwiches have been the same at every Safeway I've been to, all great! The pesto spread is delicious and so is the chipotle and olive spread/tapenade. The only downside to my review is that this location, although conveniently close to my work, has a crappy location. Its right on the edge of down town with lots of homeless people and other weirdos. It's a shame that they require security inside and outside of the building. read more

The two negative factors resulting in my three star rating are cleanliness and prices. I sometimes like to sit down and enjoy a bite to eat and/or a beverage, however I find that the tables seem to always need a wipe down, and I only use the restroom now if it's an emergency. I can't even begin to describe an incident I had using the restroom one day. I'll never be the same. Prices tend to be a little high and finding a two-fer seems only right in the end, if you get my meaning. ;) I live close to this branch and often come here out of convenience. I appreciate the selection of organic foods and I find the employees always nice and helpful. But when I need a bigger selection and don't mind the extra miles, I prefer the Safeway up the road. :) read more

We filled up our tank on regular gasoline from Safeway on July 17, 2011. Our Yukon - which ran perfectly before - began stalling out and running roughly within 10 minutes. Three fuel filters and draining the gas tank revealed LOTS of water in the gasoline and unidentified "crud" all through the gasoline. We brought this to their attention but there was no manager to be found and the clerk seemed rather bored by the situation - even with visual aids. I am very disappointed with Safeway this evening. I was attempting to check out at 8 pm. on a Friday evening, and there were only 2 checkers. One in a regular lane and one in the express lane. Now these 2 checkers were going as fast as they could go AND be kind and courteous to everyone; however, it is Friday night! There were 16 customers with carts waiting to be checked out. I asked one of the checkers to please call another checker and was informed that that was only checkers available!!! Really?? Friday night, the only grocery store in the downtown area and you have only 2 checkers??? What happened to customer service? How about you quit spending millions on Monopoly and hire a few more checkers?? Bad form read more

The staff is very friendly and pleasant but expect outrageously long wait times in line. It's common for them to only have two checking stations open when there are enough customers to probably have six+ going. Don't leave nice things in your car, your window might get smashed. read more

This review is specific to the fish department. I asked the man at the counter what was fresh. He said, "it's all fresh." What a lie. I came home and cooked it up. It stunk and we threw it out. Last time I'm going to buy fish there. Truly disappointing. Perhaps the staff doesn't understand that food poisoning can and does actually kill people. Get a clue! read more

Wow, stopped to get a coffee at the Starbucks. My very simple drink took 10 minutes. There is no where to sit and wait, so I sat in one of the patio seats they are selling. A store employee came over and told me that I was not supposed to sit there. I replied with they are taking a really long time for my coffee. His response was it's $181. When I asked the Starbucks lady why there was no where to sit she said the store removed all the seating a year ago not their decision. read more

That's got to be the slowest Safeway in NorCal. Part is due to the type of clientele. Part is due to the cashiers. Part is due to management as there were long lines and nobody to open new lines. To top it off, there are no self checkout machines. read more

I am amazed that more reviewers haven't mentioned the crazy tweakers that congregate around this place. There are always a handful of them. One day a rugged looking crazy woman was yelling obscenities a couple parking spaces away from my family and myself. I asked her who she was talking to. She said she was talking to me, but I think in reality she was angry and yelling at society at large. I told her she should calm down or someone was going to call the police on her, and a moment later an employee came out and told her she had to leave. She tried to put some tweaker curse on us, saying we would have dreams about her and cussing us out. Another time a gentleman in his twenties or early thirties was walking with a lady on the sidewalk in front of Safeway along Cypress and two tweaker looking types made some lewd comments to his lady as they were walking by. He said something in return and the two tweaker guys started yelling something about beating the guy up. Fortunately he just kept walking or I might well have had to get the innocent fellows back. All of my interactions with the employees have been pleasant. I had a great conversation with an employee who works in the produce department one day about the controversy surrounding genetically modified produce. The checkers and courtesy clerks are always amicable. If it weren't for the selection, prices, and friendly employees I would give this place a much lower review. As it is we prefer to drive across town to the other Safeway on East Cypress. It's a shame this part of Redding is getting to be such a cesspool of tweaker and low life activity. read more

I have shopped at your store for years and purchased a good majority of my groceries from there. The last two times I have been at the store I have felt very un-safe. There are many people wandering thru the parking lot and hanging out by the front door. It has been in daylight both times. There have been security guards there but both times they were together talking and laughing by the front corner of the store and i did not feel they were even concerned what was going on around there. As a single female I will not be back at your store. Safety is a big concern of mine and I do not feel safe in your parking lot even in broad daylight. read more

My rating is only for the pharmacy manager... not how long it takes to fill or the supporting staff (or should I say Angela) I have never been treated so rude. Every time I go she asks me the same questions like if I have been asked to leave on Saturday?? Wtf? I have never been there on a Saturday! I'm sure she has me twisted with the regular trash that shops there. She treats me like a junkie because I get pain meds. She is a true crusader for the pain pill pandemic! She has no idea my medical history or why I take the medication I'm on, she is not my physician . Very well kept store with all the selection you would expect from Safeway. Friendly staff. BUT, it always has a rough crowd about. Not safeway's fault, they always have lots of security present and visable, but you have to watch your back just walking to your car. The last three times I've been there I have watched the security team escort homeless looking people off the property. Again, Safeway handles he situation well but I wouldn't let your kids go there alone. read more
