The employees have always been amazing! No one in our area understands why they rearranged the aisles to the opposite of the original. Also, the aisles are not named properly. It is very frustrating and difficult to find items. The deals only available on App is awful and time consuming. Plus, it's not user friendly. It is difficult to use and needs internet. The internet at the store doesn't work well. Safeway is more expensive than Kroger, our preferred store, fuel points are also only available at more expensive stations that are not many locations. We only shop at Safeway because it's in our neighborhood, otherwise we go to Frys read more

Clean. Dirty bathrooms. Definitely on the smaller end of Safeways so not the best for a full grocery haul. Love their bakery staff. They are very consistent and always make their pastries look beautiful. Deli employees are kinda rude I always avoid this deli as the interactions are awkward. It's Safeway what can you expect? Well I absolutely love this one and I am picky about my grocery stores. I actually stop shopping at Safeway's when I moved to Phoenix because the did not have what I needed but this one is amazing. I have utilized the floral area, the deli, and the butcher. All amazing at services. I have never had an issue with parking. I haven't use the grocery pick up yet but I will be trying that out soon. Maybe one of the worst grocery stores ever!!!!! if you live in club west, I'm sure because of location, you shop there too!! They have thrived, and survived on this for 20+ years when your the only game in town. Never stocked, always out of everything, they never even restock the plastic bags let alone something simple like cilantro. 95% of the employees seem like a weird human experiment if you've ever asked one a question. My husband has never in his life been so disrespected or racially discriminated against. He went into your 1334 E. Chandler store today October 17, 2021 and purchased 1/2 pound of shrimp, amongst other things. When he returned home, I noticed the shrimp was beyond spoiled and had him return to the store. Upon returning, he advised the cashier he would like our shrimp refunded and a $5 gift card for having to return for the inconvenience. The cashier stated she would have to get the manager. That's when the manager on duty Cheryl, displayed a great deal of racism, unprofessionalism and disrespect. He advised Cheryl the same thing he advised the cashier. He explained to her how this was not the first time he had to return spoiled food to the store and that he was concerned that the shrimp was spoiled. He also explained how our family could've gotten food poisoning. He even told her about another incident when he had to return spoiled macaroni salad. He was never disrespectful to Cheryl, nor ever raised his voice at her. Instead of being concerned and empathetic, Cheryl's response in front of other all white customers was, "So this is a common thing you do." Her response left him baffled, confused and humiliated. He said to Cheryl, "No. My expectation is to come into your store and buy fresh seafood and deli items. Not to have to go all the way home and return back to the store because your items are spoiled." As a black man, he felt Cheryl tried her best to belittle and humiliate him in front of other white waiting customers, as if he did not have money. When in all honesty, he makes 2x Cheryl's salary! And, we don't even have to factor in the 3x I make into comparison of Cheryl's salary! It was very unnecessary for her to treat him as if he was trying to scam Safeway out of $4, as if that is a thing I like to do. Truth be told, today is game day Sunday, which made him having go back to the store even worse. We have been a loyal customer of Safeway for quite sometime and never had an issue outside of those two spoiled food instances at this location. The type of behavior Cheryl displayed in front of her staff and customers is not okay. I could've just called the health department and registered a complaint against the store. Eddie in the meat department however, smelled the shrimp and was very embarrassed. He apologized for the inconvenience and showed a great deal of empathy and concern. Cheryl the "manager" is a horrible representative for Safeway and lacks a great deal of humility along with management skills. Update: That same evening, the District Manager reached out and was very concerned. She did not only listen to the issue, but made my husband feel she truly cared about the feedback. She expressed several times how that behavior was not okay and is not a representation of this location. The Store Manager also wrote an apology letter outlining his next steps within the store, which was very appreciated. Although it was not necessary, they also gave us a gift card for the treatment. That also was very much appreciated. Overall, the District and Store Manager handled this situation very promptly and with a great deal of concern! read more

There are 2 Safeway stores near us and I can't believe the difference in experiences between them. The store at 1334 E Chandler Blvd in Phoenix, AZ consistently has extremely rude employees. I had stayed away from that one for a while and just went back for a few quick items. The cashier named CJ was aggressively shoving items away from her after after she scanned them. One of the items rang up with the non-sale price (which happens all the time), and she openly mocked me for questioning it. After a lot of unnecessary back and forth she told me she had corrected it, and when I got home the receipt still had the wrong price on it. As I was walking away from her register, she was clearly talking about me to the next customer in line and they laughed and watched as my son and I walked out the door. I've read other reviews where employees say they are treated poorly by the company. Maybe being rude to customers is the way they get back at Safeway....? read more

I really love this store, but only for a quick run in. My teeth were almost chattering, due to the cold AC blowing down every isle, not just the meat department. Why do you have the AC on during the cold winter months? Employees even have expressed how freezing their break room is. Am I really writing a review for a grocery store? Well after living for a year and a half in North Dakota one appreciates a grocer that offers a wide variety of fresh veggies, seafood, and meats. This Safeway location is clean, organized, and the employees are friendly. Not to mention the prices for fruits and vegetables are shockingly cheaper than what I'm used to in the buffalo state. What I most appreciate is that they stay on top of expiration dates. I've purchased items in the past that were expired causing me to be diligent of checking dates before I check-out. There are never long lines. In fact, one lane seems to always be open when I'm ready to check-out. They have a full service Starbucks and pharmacy to boot. Overall, I'm happy to have a grocery store nearby that cares about the customer and the quality of items they sell. read more

I love that this grocery store is super convenient and close to my home. I usually find everything I need all in one spot. My only complaint is the meat department. The staff needs a serious attitude check. It's not just one particular person either. Yesterday I went in to get a couple of pieces of catfish(not my favorite fish but I'm pregnant so I'm limited on fish choices) and I politely asked the guy packaging my fish up for me if he had any suggestions on seasoning it. He rudely said, "ma'am I have never had catfish in my life. Wrong person to ask." Sorry you're too good for catfish bro. Jeez. Ok, I'm a Fry's girl, I admit, but Safeway's got it going on. This location is pretty darn cool with tons of food and awesome displays. It's also convieniently located in the foothills, which is even better. I like this location because it's a really nice clean location. Plenty of produce, it has a hot food counter, a deli and ton's more. The staff here is friendly for the most part, and my shopping experience was easy when I was here. No long lines, friendly service and I was able to find everything I needed. Overall a very pleasant experience! read more

Deli sandwiches: Sorta OK, but watch out for the prices. I was just charged $17.98 for a foot-long philly cheesesteak that was sorta OK, but nowhere near an 18 buck sandwich. I'll be going elsewhere for sandwiches in the future. For general groceries this store is OK and is convenient to thousands of homes behind South Mountain in Ahwatukee. The produce is usually a bit above average quality. Meats are average. General merchandise is close to same as everywhere but just a tad higher price than nearby Kroger affiliates. read more

I live extremely close to this I and do stop in here and there for groceries. However I find the selection meh. I am a healthy person and while there is a produce section, they dont have many other healthy choices here. No vegan options.. In this day in age i expect most stores to have a few, not much here. I know a few other grocery stores around here that have a few options, but Safeway doesn't have much, at least this location, the other one is much better up further along Chandler BLVD. The store is very clean! Pretty impressed by that aspect. Employees are very nice! Also pretty helpful as well. In Nov., I hosted a baby shower for my daughter. I ordered a blue bootie sheet cake from Safeway's bakery & helium balloons. Staff in the bakery and floral department were very helpful. The cake looked and tasted wonderful! We loved the slices of strawberries in the filling and the whipped cream frosting. The balloons were great too. Safeway's hours are super convenient. Whether you need Starbucks coffee at 5am or a beer run at 11:30pm they are conveniently open. Their loyal staff are always friendly & helpful. I guess the gal at checkout was having a bad morning? When she came over to check me out after a different clerk was finishing up with the guy ahead of me, she started by telling the other employee how much she "hated" another guy there, my assumption was a co-worker. Ok sure no big deal, not my business. But it never improved from there. She was rude, unpleasant, and seemed genuinely put out to be working. She asked if I wanted the milk bagged. My reply was "Yes, please." Her reply was a huff and a sigh. It was the same huff and sigh she used on the people waiting at customer service when she had to use the intercom to get someone over to staff the customer service counter. Who knew that everything, from a fellow employee, to bagging milk, to pushing an intercom button would be so obviously annoying to her at 10:20am on a Friday! I felt almost like apologizing for helping to sour her already cranky mood, but I decided instead on a polite and perky "thank you!" when she finished my transaction, to which she replied "uh huh, theeeeere you go." I'm sure I'm off trend on customer service, heck I only worked CS for about 20 years myself, but I guess thanking the customer has gone totally out of vogue in some circles in Ahwatukee. Usually when I thank an employee for the service they provided, the stock reply is a curt "no problem." (McDonald's, both in the Foothills and at 40th and Chandler, are notorious for that one.) "Theeeeere you go," was definitely a new take on the idea that they have somehow done me a favor I wasn't necessarily deserving in spite of having spent money at their place of employment. Aside from asking about the milk, it was the only thing she said to me from beginning to end, so I guess it could have been worse. Good news is I almost never come to this Safeway, I was in the Foothills already and it was just on my way home. I live about 4 minutes from the Safeway at 40th and Chandler where at least the staff is always courteous and polite. read more

I Recently tried Safeway's delivery service had to order my groceries by delivery because of recent surgery and cannot drive. I ordered some items with Safeway's delivery service and it and the driver were fantastic. The driver helped me with all my needs and could not accept any tips I felt bad because he was so helpful. This isn't my everyday Safeway. I'm only an occasional shopper here--which is probably why I see nothing wrong with this location. It is true that it's smaller than other Safeway stores, and thus the selection is smaller too. However, all the times I've needed to stop by there, they've had what I was looking for. The checkers can be a bit slow, but overall the staff seem decent & friendly enough. If this was the most convenient store to me (like a lot of people in the Foothills), then I might be a little less forgiving of its shortcomings. My husband and I shop here all the time and sometime we forget our card and our options are to not get the discount or to get yet another Safeway card. Recently tried Safeway's delivery service, and was impressed! Now they dont have everything available for delivery, but still a good selection. After setting up an online account, I was on my way to ordering the food. Ordered items, it showed my savings right there, picked a delivery time. Delivery times run almost all day, in one hour increments. Food was delivered on time & cold. Even tried to tip the driver, but he wouldn't accept it. (It says in their Faq's the drivers won't accept tips.) Looking over my bill, there were savings on there, I didn't realize I would receive. Recommended the service t o a friend, who ordered online. One of the items they didn't have, and didn't have a good substitution, so they took off an exorbitant amount of money from their bill! Great job Safeway! read more
