Gunnar Olsen and his staff are kind and caring to a person. Kudos as always to Kathleen for always sharing a smile and a friendly greeting. Gunnar will go the extra mile to fill a problem prescription. I get all my six daily meds here and wouldn't think of using any other pharmacy in Petaluma. While the store might have its challenges, the pharmacy is excellent, including their vaccination services. Two thumbs up! read more

Zero stars. One is generous. The pharmacist refuses to fill medications that are prescribed by my neurologist. Why? Because he's concerned about being audited. They aren't apologetic. They just blandly deny, not understanding the serious repercussions of their decisions to deny medication. No emotion. Nothing. It's like dealing with an AI robot. Now, I will have to switch pharmacies. I'll gladly do this if it means doing business with a pharmacy that shows a morsel of humanity. read more

Zero stars for this Safeway , Petaluma McDowell Pharmacy. The person in charge ( Pharmacist ) Gunnar Olson is a rude, Pompous horrible human. Typical young guy in his 40 who feel entitlement that he is a gift to the world. Over time I learn to be disgusted every time I had to interact with him! He will remind you often how lucky you are that he gave any time and energy for you to get your medication there or using his time to explain and or prepare them for you! He tells you he is doing you a favor- those are his words. WOW ! After you ask question of concern or wanting to know when you can get them etc. Basic question. Total jerk! Has no value or common sense what customer service is! His counter person Amanda is another rude - zero personality and no interest of communication or even a smile ever. Being her boss is a Jerk no wonder his staff acts like him! I complained to Safeway after a few mistakes , mis orders and this bad behavior and the store manager said they lease the space and have nothing to do with them yet they have Safeway name on all the medications etc. The only person there with a smile and helpful is Katherine but hit and miss if you will get her! Bad, Bad, Bad ( ZERO) is my rating. Go to Costco like I did and you will be totally amazed the difference and quick turnover with alerts to get or reorder your medication. I want good service not looking to make friends but not to be treated like your bothering the manager and staff at Safeway Pharmacy - McDowell Petaluma store. I was a customer that did $10 to $20 + thousand- if not more in sales on average per year as my health is in need of serious medications. I'm a Kaiser memos, I don't often use the Safeway Pharmacy. But, yesterday I was able to get a flu shot as, they have an agreement with Kaiser. The staff is patient, respectful and really comfortable'multitasking.' They handle deliveries, customers and staff without sweating a bit. I filled out a short form. She took my ID and Kaiser card. Then I walked into the small med center. The RN (?) Greeted me, checked on a couple who had Covid boosters and gave me an injection in less than 5 minutes. She smiled. She was young, fun to talk to and also, did not seem overwhelmed by all the injections: people get flu, shingles, Covid shots and boosters here. I am too you g for my booster but, I'll definitely go back. They are next door and they made me feel comfortable and secure. read more

I'm a little shocked at the expiration dates of items left on the shelves at this particular Safeway. I bought 3 frozen Tombstone pizzas, 2 were a limited edition Bratwurst pizza and 1 was an original supreme. The date on the Supreme days best by March 2016 have both Bratwurst pizzas days best by May 2016. And I didn't notice this until I came home and started cooking one. While I was shopping a lot of their yogurts have expiration date that are well over 1 to 1-1/2 months passed due. Some of the expired dates were shoved all the way in the back. Guess they have never heard of FIFO (First In, First Out), only FILO (First In, Last Out). I think Safeway needs to train employees on the for art of FIFO & expiration dates. It was 9pm at the Safeway in East Petaluma, CA off of McDowell. I was shopping alone and was browsing steaks by the meat department, there where two men who worked in the meat department who where hosing the area down (assuming they where closing up). One was a white heavier set guy named Robert the other was not wearing a name tag he was Latino (I believe) and had tattoos all up his arms and neck. As I walked by they were making vulgar comments about my butt to one another and started laughing. I tried to ignore it and started to walk away from them down a hall. Again they yell towards me saying how ugly I look and that I need surgery. They yell this so loud two other costumers (an old lady and a man) turn around as well and ask me what they were yelling at me. I them feel angry confused and overall hurt, I proceed to walk up to them and ask why they are being so mean and embarrassing me, for what purpose. They then reply with "Im crazy" and that "no one is saying shit to you lady" then he says 'if you have a problem, then why don't you go make a complaint". I then said I would and left. I have been shopping here for years and do not feel comfortable going back any longer. I don't think anyone needs to be treated or harassed they way I was tonight. I am truly hurt and confused as to why this all happened. read more

I don't know what I was thinking. I left the Safeway Pharmacy because of things like this that just happened: I usually get my prescriptions delivered through Alliance/Walgreen's and have no troubles. But I had just got a new prescription for eye drops and wanted to see if I could get them before I left on my trip on Thursday. So I went in on Sunday, where they said it wouldn't be a problem, they just had to contact my doctor because of an electronic signature. So come back on Tuesday afternoon and they would have it for me. Well, after waiting in line for a while, after 3:00 pm, they told me it wasn't ready and to wait 10-15 minutes and they would have it for me. Well, I waited my 15 minutes, got back in line, and waited. After looking around and talking to someone else, the pharmacist informed me they wouldn't be able to fill the prescription because they didn't have any. Wow! First someone told me no problem, then I'm told to wait and they would have it for me and so I waited even longer then they told me they couldn't do it. That speaks volumes about how organized they are. They don't have a clue what's going on there and I will NEVER use them again. They wasted enough of my time. read more

We got soooooo spoiled for all the years that we used the last mom and pop pharmacy that was left in our town. Since its closing our insurance has required that we go to, first it was CVS, on Washington. That was a nightmare. In the 3 months we used CVS (I will write a review there, too), the computer was down 4 times so we could not even get our prescriptions filled until the next day. We started using Safeway in the beginning of 2013 (again because of insurance requirements) and two times I waited over an hour to get prescriptions filled, once it was an hour and 20 minutes. There was no one in line, either. This was just the wait to get it filled. I think the personnel are nice people, just not very efficient. I also just was informed by a pharmacist at a different pharmacy why nothing is in stock and why patients now have to order their meds and come back later in the week - it's purely economics - none of the pharmacies want to keep stock on hand in the event it won't sell but then a poor sick patient must wait days to get their meds and make multiple trips to the pharmacy to get a prescription filled. It is really a problem for the chronically ill. As I know all too well how exhausting it can be going to the pharmacy, waiting on line just to drop off a script and then having to drive cross town days later and do it all over again. The FDA should change its rules so that a pharmacy can release a partial script so the patient can at least get started on their meds immediately and then go back and get the remainder of their script if pharmacies are going to continue to operate in this manner. Maybe I will start a petition to the FDA. Anyone else on board to petition the FDA about this? read more

I have waited one entire week for the pharmacy to get my prescription. They say they will re-fax the request to my doc. Finally called the doc today and they had sent the prescription request to Safeway one week ago. The man at Safeway said they had so many faxes that he had to put me on hold while he looked for it. Never did find it. My doc sent another prescription today. They are just totally disorganized and most likely understaffed. I really miss CVS! Insurance directed me to Safeway. read more

I'd been a Long's Drugs (recently purchased by CVS) customer for my entire adult life. A few years ago, I was diagnosed with an illness which required that I refill several prescriptions each month. After a couple of years of putting up with the terrible service at Long's (Horrendously "Long's" lines [pun intended], being given the wrong medication, dosages that didn't match the prescription or label, frequent switches of pharmaceutical supplier - the pills would always be different sizes, colors, and shapes, constantly finding out they were out of my medication month after month - even after calling in advance and being told it was ready for pick up, and the rudest staff I'd ever experienced) - one day, while waiting the usual 45 minutes to hour in line, the man in front of me said that he'd recently tried the pharmacy at the local Safeway Store, and that he'd had a great experience. I'd noticed the pharmacy many times while grocery shopping, but the idea of a pharmacy inside of a grocery store was somehow incongruous. I was certain that they couldn't be as good as a "real" drug store. But I'd had it with Long's, so I decided to give Safeway a try. I was shocked by the difference. The staff and pharmacists are very friendly - they knew me by sight after only 2 or 3 visits, always greeting me by name. Even over the telephone, you can tell that these people enjoy their jobs and really like being of help to their customers. They have never, after over 3 years of my filling several prescriptions a month, made a single mistake, or been out of what my doctor prescibed. And best of all, their prices are significantly lower. read more

This pharmacy often seems disorganized. We've had issues with loss prescriptions, or late prescriptions. Most recently my insurance was not on file. I gave them my insurance while in the store. I returned the next day and my insurance is still not on file and I was unable to get my prescription. I'll return for a third try later. read more

By far the best service I have ever had at a pharmacy. The employees really seemed to care about getting us our prescriptions over the phone and in person. My husband and I recently moved to the area and we have been transferring all of our prescriptions and Safeway has made it really easy for us! Having just started a new job I am between insurance policies and they gave us good advice on programs/discounts we could qualify for until my work policy kicks in. I have never had a pharmacist go out of their way to find me a good deal! Definitely glad we chose Safeway! read more

my husband was prescribed 6 meds from the hospital. They were called in the morning and I arrived in the afternoon. Employees could not find them. The female pharmacist stated "they were all over the place' Employee stated to come back in half an hour-but better in an hour. I asked if hospital prescription had any priority. He said no, antibiotics were a priority.???? Plus pharmacist made a mistake a dosage on one of them-forgot to indicate half tablet. Luckily I read the hospital instructions on meds. On another occasion, when I had to wait for one, the male pharmacist filled other prescriptions when no other customers were waiting except me. Intelligent and thoughtful pharmacy employees, no lines! Like others, I was tired of the long lines, mistakes, and uncaring employees at CVS pharmacy in Petaluma. So I gave Safeway a try and found a breath of fresh air--they think, they care, and they have enough staff that customers don't wait. Today was the icing on the cake. With my insurance, I save money by using an inefficient mail order pharmacy, and I only use Safeway for emergency prescriptions. So I'm not a big customer for Safeway. But through a mix-up at the doctor's office an ongoing prescription got posted to both Safeway and the mail order pharmacy. Then I added more confusion by needing an additional short-term prescription to tide me over till the mail order came through. The woman who answered the phone at Safeway quickly figured out what was happening, identified all my choices, and helped me choose the prescriptions that gave me the best outcome, without regard to whether Safeway got the most business. She just cared about helping me resolve the somewhat messed-up situation I helped create. If the mail-order pharmacy owned by the insurance company didn't have so many hooks in my choices, I'd love to move all our prescriptions to Safeway pharmacy in Petaluma. read more

The only reason I came to get a prescription filled here was because it was nearby. They so slow and not friendly. The woman behind the counter is rude, flat out rude. She wasn't only rude to me but to other customers as well. This woman apparently did not want to be working today. She actually complained to me that she was behind because she was so busy. What is wrong with the people that make the sandwiches in their deli department today?!i was just there before 11 and there was a couple in front of me in line. 2 guys were there and one just saw that unneeded help and walked off to take his break. The other kid helping the couple moved so slow! Apologized and said it would only be just a few minutes and literally another 10 minutes went by and I finally walked away. Management needs to seriously take a look at these employees. Do they want their customers to be ignored or to make them wait over 15 minutes for a sandwich. Ridiculous!
