Went in yesterday asking for a new membership club card and the customer service person handed me one, saying it is usable immediately and no registration or activation is required. After putting several items in the cart and arriving at the checkout, we were told that one item in our cart was $12.99, but having anticipated a possible problem with our new card, I showed the clerk a photo of the price on the shelf which said $9.99. He said that was only if I had registered my card online, which I explained the customer service person 20 minutes ago told me the card was ready to use and required no registration. He said the item is $12.99 unless I register the card online and THEN get the coupon! I left it and the rest of the items we were going to purchase and went to my favorite store, Trader Joe's, where everything is at a low enough price already that I don't need any stinking membership or coupons and they even unload my cart for me! I shop at Safeway in Napa pretty much exclusively. Mostly due to lack of choices, and familiarity with the store. The prices are ridiculously high. Ive gone shopping down South and pretty much bought the same things for almost exactly half the prices that I pay in Napa. Oh well, I guess it is what it is. The price to be paid for living up here in this beautiful area. My main complaint(s) are that often times, I find myself shopping at night. To avoid crowds and sometimes thats just the way things work out. On more than one occasion Ive encountered Checkers that are really in need of a refresher course on Customer Service and just plain old manners. One young man felt it appropriate to give my daughter and myself his suggestions on how my grandkids should be raised. He was all of 20 years old, and really was pretty rude. He stated that the kids should really be at home and in bed. It was about 8 o'clock in the evening. We were just getting into town after a roadtrip. None of his business, frankly. And I have encountered the same rude, impolite and frankly mean checker. I will mention names, because she was really over and above being a little rude. Sarcastic questions, as well as responses from her were unacceptable!! He name was Anita, and Ill tell you one thing for sure, every time I see that Im going to get her as my checker, Ill stand in a long line to get a different checker. My overall opinion of the folks at Safeway in Napa is that they are helpful and friendly. But there are just a few that really make the already unenjoyable task of grocery shopping even more unpleasant. read more

If I could give this particular Safeway 0 stars I would....and nothing against Safeway in general - just this specific Safeway. I am new to the neighborhood and I loved the fact that this Safeway was so convenient to me - right around the corner from my new home. I put aside the uninviting parking lot - under construction and demolished, as well as the hodgepodge group of patrons. I have been in during the day - the employees and patrons are generally nice. However, on May 05 in the evening, I took a walk with my fiance and pups to Safeway. As he waited outside with the dogs, I went in to buy him some cigarettes. I should have taken the women's name down - but I had gone in to this blonde woman's checkout line. I did not have my ID so she would not sell the cigarettes to me She said if I was 100 yrs old, she would not sell to me without an ID. My fiancé went in 2 minutes later, without his ID, and purchased the cigarettes and they did not ask him for his ID. I am a 39 year old woman - I might look a little more youthful than your average 39 year old but I'm clearly over the age of 21. I am not one of those paranoid folks that blame discrimination but there was some kind of discrimination that just occurred. I don't want this 1 act to deter me to how I feel about Napa - but I just moved from the city. Things like this makes me want to run back to San Francisco. I will never go back to that Safeway again. I hope the rest of Napa is not like that woman. read more

I came here to buy one item, walked out about 45 minutes, and a hundred dollars later. A very friendly man who works in produce, I believe his name is Del, introduced me to new melons, apples from New Zea land, and a few others I would have never bought. He even let me taste a few, and so, I bought, and so did the other customers! I have to say, I wish all people enjoyed their job as much as he does, because it shows, and, he made me spend money I didn't even intend on spending! I called the store to let them know as well. This is the worst grocery store ever. Just called the store and whoever answered didn't even say this is Safeway. Lets talk about another occasion in the dairy department, I had to help older customers try and get milk because they couldn't reach it, I tried looking for someone who could help US with telling the back to move the cartons forward and of course I couldn't find anyone. So I went the back doors waited and waited and no one greeted me so I walked in and still couldn't find anyone until a staff member cussed me out and told me that there is sign that stops me from going in, ok, technically the sign just lets me know that there's "employees only" not stop customer don't go in. He proceeded to cuss me out, so I told him you need to push your product forward so customers can buy your product. Almost all dairy products were all the way to the back as if it wasn't part of the job to push product forward. Never shopping here again! read more

Was going to put a 1 star because the frozen Maryland Crabcakes safeway appetizer was nothing like the one in the Bay Area Safeway. These looked like they were thawed and refrozen and smelled and tasted fishy. We've had so many issues with this Safeway Just for You Program, I did not want to take this back and wait in the long line at customer services again. So I ate it. I had 11 days of pure gout excruciating horror of pain. Plus did you see the paragraph of chemicals on the back of the black colored packaging? On the up side, the frozen lobsters for $5.99 were so close to Red Lobster deliciousness, I think I'll always go to Safeway for them and skipped the $30 price at the restaurant. Just "stay away" from Safeway Brand maryland crabcakes, these are dangerous, disgusting, fishy smelling, old and crappy. Had other problems with Safeway brand frozen items too, especially if they are on sale, it really means not expired but highly likely thawed and refrozed and sold to the unsuspecting public spoiled and will get you sick. You know the ones they pick up in the aisles inconsiderate shoppers throw because they are too lazy to put them away when they do not want to purchase them. read more

I wish I could rate the Trancas Napa store with a big ZERO because that is the service I received on Thursday July 1. I have always shopped Safeway when in that location doing other errands. I totally believe in supporting all the businesses as I possibly can. I have noticed over the last few times I shopped there, the clerks do not help much; do not want to go the extra mile even when they have time and tend to get argumentative. I went to Safeway yesterday to get some chicken wings in the hot food section help yourself where they now have the opened containers of hot foods next to the deli. I retrieved a container and took some chicken wings. I reached for a lid, and noticed it was too small for the container I had. I went to the deli counter expecting to have the clerk provide me with a lid that fit. She told me to go back to the food bar and that there were lids to fit. I told her there were not and that was why I came to the counter. I told her I checked around and there was nothing. I further told her this was the third time in two weeks I had gone to select chicken wings and other items at the open hot food bar, and there were a lack of containers; lids and/or what was there was the wrong size. I also told her that of the times that I was selecting the hot foods, the trays were messy, there were plastic protectors in the trays and it had appeared that no one had serviced the area for some time. She argued with me that there were in fact the appropriate lids and containers if I would return and look better. I was frustrated at this point with her attitude and said firmly, "NO there is NOT. I would NOT be here asking and wasting my time of day if there were." She was totally unprofessional. She could have simply said, "okay, I will get that for you - thank you for letting me know and I will go over to check the supplies and food." There were quite a few people in line and due to my irritation with her, I loudly said, "I will take my business elsewhere and I am calling the manager." Now I am totally understanding that this has been a tough year for essential workers. It has been rough for everyone - HOWEVER, this is not acceptable or an excuse to not provide good customer service, and not maintain a store clean and attractive in the various sections to appeal the customer to shop. I shopped Safeway for years; both the Trancas Street and when the Clay Street location was opened before closing due to the 2014 earthquake. Not sure where these clerks are coming from. There use to be the best and most courteous clerks who were long term employees. They knew the regulars like me. They treated ALL customers with kindness and always willing to help. I am not a person to complain, but I find the behavior I met yesterday was demonstrative of lazy and someone who did not know how to do her job. I would like to advise the manager that this happened around 1:30 pm on July 1, 2021. I would recommend managers of departments train the employees of proper customer service and to NOT argue with the customer when they need something. If something is not available, professionally advise and ask if you can help with finding something else. Clerks should also be trained to be familiar with the sections they are working. I am sorry. I will not be returning to Safeway for quite some time if ever. Come on managers. Get your store back in shape!!!! read more

I have never had anything but good experiences with the bakery, but recently I ordered a baby shower cake and I think my two year old could've decorated it better. I was so embarrassed....it was the joke of the shower! We ate it anyways. (It tasted good) but when I called to let them know i wasn't happy with it. I was reassured that the manager would get right back to me. I never did recieve a phone call. Nothing. I will never again order a cake from this bakery. read more

Crappy service went at 8:00 pm one cashier who was obviously mad she had to work and a courtesy clerk who really didn't want to be there either. 8 people in line and they manage get mad that they have to bag our groceries. Our egg Carton out in sideways so by the time we got home they were busted. Really feel that if you choose to be in customer service you should have the skills it's not a hard job. read more

I stopped going to Safeway because their lot is always full and they make so many mistakes on my purchases. ALL Safeways.. but l went today because they had Caspers hot dogs for $5 Friday. I went early to get a parking space. 9:30 a.m. but when l got inside there were no mobility scooters in sight. I walked to other door in pain from arthritis in my hips. No scooters. This early??? then l spotted them, hidden in closed check stands and with shelves blocking them. I moved the shelves and found they were run down and no where near a socket to plug them in. So l asked a clerk and she acted surprised that they hadn't been charged overnight. I asked where the meat dept was, as it had been awhile and she pointed directly back of store OF Course way in the back and l can barely walk. when l got there it was the Pharmacy so l again asked where is the meat dept. Way to my right. So l walked along til l found Caspers hot dogs and painfully made my way to check out and go home. Vowing never again. When will l learn my lesson? read more

This review is about the Starbucks kiosk inside the store. Horrible customer service. I approached the counter and was not greeted or acknowledged by either of the women behind the counter. They were busy having a conversation even though they were looking at me. When they finally said "can I help you" I gave them my order and without verifying what I asked for, they continued their conversation. Needless to say, they got it wrong. This I didn't discover until after I left the store. During the financial transaction, it was never stated what I owed as they were busy planning their lunch breaks. Zero personality coming from either of them. I believe these 2 should not be in the customer service world. read more

Went in for there $5 friday special in the deli, but they were sold out. I asked how long it would take since there were a few employees standing around. The man said he thought about 30 minutes. And continued his conversation without checking for me. He walked towards the back after a minute picking his nose. Disgusting. I want to give Safeway a great review as a store, I shop there so much but the reason for only 4 stars is because of the Starbucks in their store. I will absolutely not go back there, I ordered a Trenta Strawberry Refresher with lemonade with easy ice, this is a drink I get all the time everywhere else and pay $4.75. and this dam Starbucks has the nerve to first, charge to have easy ice really WTF and second they charge me extra to replace the water with the lemonade. So for $5.65 for the drink. Its not totally about the money its the principal of it. You don't have to charge your customers for less ice and to replace something with something else. This is total BS. you have just lost business and I will spread the word. I will make an effort to go to any other Starbucks even if I am shopping at Safeway. Starbucks makes bank by everyone who goes there and for you to nickel and dime bc someone wants their drink a special way. That is bad service and when I got my drink the girl who gave it to me all she said was here is your drink., No Thank you and no have a NICE DAY. Bad Bad customer service, Make sure to hire people that know how to give good service, and to also mention, when I was heading to the counter that day to get the drink a worker of Safeway was walking up too and just barged in front, he could have been more polite and said, oh you can go a head of me. Atleast the offer would have been nice. Please hire people that are nice and courteous...... if Not I wont hesitate to either start shopping at another Safeway or yet another store entirely. read more

I like this Safeway and it's always really clean. The only complaint I have is there never seems to be anyone there to help you when you need it.. Maybe more staff or customer conscious staff would be good.. The floral lady, Victoria, is ALWAYS the best though! She is so friendly and will to help! read more

I've had a few not-so-nice experiences there (mostly in the deli for some reason) but I've also had the manager treat me very well when I had a complaint. This store is very easy for me to get to (I ride the bus) and the bus stop is right next to them. Sometimes that's the reason I come here but compared to all the other stores in the area, they don't come out too bad. One thing however, I suggest getting the packaged Gallo (or is it Galleo) salami rather than the god awful Boar's Head garbage they're currently selling. I bought some Genoa salami from BH the other day and it's like chewing on leather! I ended up throwing it in the garbage, luckily I had only wasted my money on a quarter pound of the crap. read more

Safeway was my go to grocery store for most of my adult life. However that changed a few years ago mainly because of the poor customer service. Some of the veteran staff are still courteous and helpful but mostly staff are rude or unhelpful. I recently placed a large deli order for work. The order at the deli alone was well over $100. First, had to wait at the deli for help (always the case no matter what time of day) second asked the clerk how much the largest salad container would hold? She looked confused. I tried asking a different way, how many servings would this hold? How much do you think I should order for 50 people? She asked another clerk to assist her. This woman had no idea either. It was seriously the most confusing situation to them and to me! How can you work in a deli and not know how many servings a container would hold? I felt like I was asking something that was totally unreasonable. Finally I just ordered two of the salads. Let me specify, these salads were about $50 each. I placed the order a week in advance. Guess what? The day of my event there was only enough ordered for one container. I specifically ordered in advance and ordered that salad because it was vegetarian friendly. They tried to offer me a salad stuffed with salami as a substitute. I wish I could say this was a lone incident but sadly it isn't. Management of this store is definitely lacking and there are never enough courtesy clerks or checkers either. I'll take my money elsewhere. read more

Horrible customer service... So sad- I'm a long term Safeway shopper and I remember when my company would use the example of Safeway as having great customer service. Not anymore! Definitely not at this location! I couldn't find an item, then I couldn't find anyone that could help me find the item. Finally I tracked down a grumpy old butcher- who ignored me after I chased him down and said, "Excuse me," three times! He continued to ignore me (even though- based on his body language it was pretty obvious he heard me!) He scurried into the back of the store and out of sight! I finally gave up and decided to check out- Ofcourse there were maybe two baggers for at least five full lines of customers! Since when did Safeway become so chincy with their staffing of courtesy clerks! Seems to be like this every week I'm shopping at this store! I've always been a customer- but I'm definitely looking to shop elsewhere! People still appreciate good customer service and we DO have options! Trader Joes and Luckys are right across the street...Two stars because at least the checker was nice and polite. read more

This is the worst safeway deli to go to!!! I go every sunday on my lunch and always get a sandwhich, i literally wait forever to even get someone to come over and acknowledge me!! I work in customer service and i do not normally complain but seriously this is just getting old! They need to have someone stand there all the time! there are always 3-4 people standing over there in that department talking away and its just bad service. I will never purchase from this Safeway's bakery again. My one and only experience was buying a full sheet cake for an event. I called days ahead of time and gave clear instructions. They even repeated everything: spelling, colors, filling/icing tipping. They confirmed it would be ready at 10am today. This morning I received a call from them at 9:19am to get clarity on several details, which was fine. I showed up at 11am, an hour after the agreed-upon time. When I told them my name, there was a nervous shuffle among the workers when they realized the full sheet cake was on top of the rack, completely blank and undecorated, and with no writing. The woman came back and said "She just has to finish up some of the writing." A little insulting that she assumed I didn't notice the entire cake was blank from 15 feet away. Seeing my surprise, she asked, "Do you have some shopping to do?" "No. We were supposed to have it ready to leave at 10am." I was obviously upset, though I kept my cool. "Ok, well, she's got some writing to finish [no apology], so it'll be a few minutes." We waited for half an hour, which made us a half hour late for the several-hundred attendee event where the cake was expected. Meanwhile, the woman decorating the cake talked under her breath and shot a couple hate stares at us...I assume for rushing her to be an hour and a half late in delivery? Not sure, but when the clerk brought the finished product over at 11:30 and asked If I'd like to see it, I was pleasant (though I was quite upset internally), said "looks great! Thank you so much!" Again, no apology. Apparently the message was that I was in the wrong. Only frowns. She was very rude, as was the woman decorating the cake. If the cake wasn't essential to the event, we would have left without the cake so we could arrive on time. I'm still surprised by the lack of professionalism in their response to their own errors. Only negative gestures. That will obviously be the first and last time we'll ever order from them. read more

User-Friendly Pharmacy! Staff/Pharmacists are friendly, knowledgeable, and approachable. I will never go back to CVS. The Safeway staff never judge you, act superior to you, or question your intelligence because you need insurance/policy/treatment/etc. explained. The pharmacy department at Safeway operates with the utmost discretion and ensures a positive experience each time. Navigating the health system is finally not such a hassle, with them!! read more
