WHO MANAGES THIS PLACE!? Firstly...why is it still listed on Jefferson? It's been years and even Google and the Safeway app say Jefferson! How is that possible? Secondly...wanna wait in a line of 10 people getting groceries on any night of the week? Go to Safeway after 11 pm...the self check-outs will be closed, there will be 20 people stocking groceries, and one f'n checker! I thought they were in the business of selling food, but apparently over stocking is the priority...and ironically, half the items on sale will be out of stock! Good times...thanx guys! read more

My father retired after 30 years with Safeway and was very loyal and proud of the chain. He would have hurt to see such a poorly run store. I worked at Safeway for 15 years including a couple of years as an assistant manager. I know how a store should be run and this store falls way below the minimum standard. The most recent incident was the 99 cent per dozen that were at top of the weekly ad. It was a one day only sale so I made a trip to Safeway and they were of course out of the eggs. I heard a clerk say they ran out in the morning. Inexcusable!! On the rare occasion when a clerk actually greets me they are very rarely making eye contact. Too often they are having a conversation with the bagger while ignoring the customer. I recently had a chance to talk with the new store manager and she was a manager of very well run Safeways (stores I used to shop at) so there is hope for the future in Napa. read more

What a barnyard operation. One star is for the stellar team in the pharmacy. Other than that, the place is a mess. I have taken to stopping in American Canyon to shop because it is a tight operation. Happy, friendly checkers, well-stocked produce and meat. Napa, not so much. Again tonight, zero Atlantic salmon, but a big pile of nasty looking sockeye salmon for $2 more. Zero whole chickens save the Foster Farms birds that are so frozen that you could use them as bowling balls... Napa Safeway needs to get its act together. When I completed an on-line survey on the receipt, the manager call to apologize, but nothing changed. Always out of salmon and chicken. But that's ok, no one buys those items, right? Safeway's bakery is my favorite place. It is my go to when buying a cake especially the chocolate flavor. I order or buy the cakes here for all occasions and I have always been satisfied. Mari is my favorite from the bakery she is very kind and talented. I will continue to buy cakes here as well as bagels! The jalapeño cheese bagel is the best hands down!! If you want good service go during the day. I went into Safeway around 11:30 PM after getting off work and the checkers there are horrible. They hardly say hi to you or they don't at all. One cashier was busy during the transaction looking at his phone and didn't acknowledge anything I said to him. The lady ahead of me was trying to talk to him and he just kept looking at his phone and mumbled at her. Last night when I went in the red haired checker with the beard didn't say a word to me, the line was really long and this guy moved at a snails pace. I got about 6 drinks a candy bar and a bag of bagels and he didn't even ask if I wanted a bag. I ended up bagging my own groceries. I have noticed that the late night crew are really rude. I enjoy shopping at Safeway in my own town (Sonoma) and will just go there from now on if I need anything late at night. I thought that Safeway would care about their customers and choose friendly people to work at checkers. But I guess that finding people to work all night is difficult and they will take what ever they can get. read more

The selection in the meat department is already dismal, but to then get home to find $20 worth of meat completely useless is infuriating. It allows you to pick a delivery window; yet when it goes hours past the scheduled time, you have to chase them down for answers. Half of my food wasn't in the order yet still showed on my receipt. 1. I almost never post on Yelp but the kind of rudeness my wife and I experienced at the sandwich counter earlier today Monday October 21st at around 1 pm deserved to be mentioned. I am making the point to state the date and time this way management can cross reference with their schedule and find out which person I am talking about. 2. I am a local and used to shop here quite often but will not anymore and I will make sure to pass the word to all of my friends, acquaintance and the large number of people I know. 3. My wife and I stopped to get something to eat today. My wife wanted a sandwich and I opted for some chicken. Two males employee were on attendance behind the daily counter, none of them said hi nor smile nor anything, we felt like we were bothering them (it wasn't any line when we arrived). I proceeded to order 4 pieces of roasted chicken and my helper started to dropped them in a normal non thermal brown paper bag, I had to ask him to put it in a plastic to go box has I was concerned that the chicken's sauce would drop through the paper bag onto my car seat and he obliged and did so......wondering why it would not make sense to him in the first place but not a big deal.....the other guys, the very, very rude one and believe me he wears it on his face you can't miss him, heard my wife telling my guy that she wanted to order a corned beef sandwich, without even talking to us, he went to the cold cut end of the counter and cut some corned beef, no words were exchanged with him, he did not greet us, did not say hi, did not smile (god forbid), nada. Excuse me the word but it was the epitome of rudeness to be polite. He came back in our corner with the cut meat and my wife asked him what he was going to put on the sandwich and he answered with a rude voice that she could get it the way she wanted.....my wife mentioned to him that he was rude, and tried to be nice to him but he kept with his rudeness, telling her angrily that he was not going to let her treat him this way. He slammed the sandwich on the counter and told her, you have a good day. We asked to talked to a manager and basically he said not, that we could not treat him like that. We were not rude to him at all, we were just expecting to have a descent customer service experience, not a great one but just a respectful one and this individual was far than respectful. We finally were able to talk to a manager who said that he would talk to him..... Dear manager, please write him up and fire him, he may be the reason why you do not have a line at your daily counter at lunch time. Being myself in the service industry, I would never ever tolerate one of my employee to treat a customer this way. Ive been going to the deli here for quite sometime now. I buy small snack items also. The deli employees are in the back there not always attentive when your ready to order. Im giving them 1 star for the majority of employees that not complying with sanitary guidelines. They touch items with gloves that are not clean, employees save the same pair of gloves in there pocket, they rub there body parts like nose & itch there eyes. I witness one employee itching her hair net when preparing my food. As I started to look for different options of food, she stated she is sorry, it was just a bug. I changed my mind about the food and I bought a premade sandwich. I am hesitant if I want her to prepare my food again. When it comes to checkout time, they have have 4 self-checkout stations. 1 out of 4 is always out of service. The lines often bring confusion to people. Some people work it out, some people cant depending on bitter moods. I stand about 5'5". It's difficult to see who's next in line when Safeway is selling beer by the 30-pack 7 feet high. This "lifestyle store" Safeway has slowly improved over the years. The checker was friendly, and I didn't mind paying a dime extra for a paper bag. This Safeway, along with the Loop market/gas station, and the CVS across the street, are the rare 24 hour businesses. One sees lots of folks in scrubs here, since it's not far from nursing homes&hospitals. I was able to find a farmer's market frittata that Whole Foods once carried for cheap, along with a coffee drink. This Safeway is perfect for the emergency breakfast run. Unfortunately, the downtown Safeway was put permanently out of business by the August 2014 quake. It needed some cleanup&renovation. While the 2014 quake hastened the planned demolition of parts of Napa Town Center (it was a "we were going to tear it down anyhow"), it sadly put the sole grocery store in downtown out of business. I'm happy with how this Safeway has improved. read more

I like their selection of foods, from the produce, meats, bakery and other foods sections. Until BevMo opens up next door, this is the place with the largest booze selection in town. Paired with a frozen pizza from the large freezer section and the local redbox, you're set for a night in. I usually stop here to pick up dinner before going home. I've never walked away empty handed. I like that they clearly label what's organic and local. Everything is fresh, and ready to eat, or can wait a few days. read more

I live near a Safeway in Mountain View. I know how a good Safeway operates and how it ticks because when I'm at home I am in my Safeway about 5 times or more per week. I can tell you with all certainty that this is not a good Safeway. I have been overcharged for items here, I have been charged for items I didn't purchase and I have dealt with employees here that could really use some training in simple manners. Sure, you can get Vodka and chips here at 3AM (thanks for pointing that our Brice C.) but, they may take a little extra money from you and raise your blood pressure in the process. I have read a lot of bad reviews of Safeway stores, from all over the Bay, here on Yelp. I guess I am just a creature of habit or stuck in a rut or whatever but this is where I have shopped all my life. Not THIS Safeway but this chain in general. I prefer it very much over Luckys. My weekly shopping starts with Trader Joes, may include Whole Foods and Target and then ends with the bulk of items at good old Safeway. This store always seems clean and well stocked, the employees are helpful and friendly and I know where everything is. With rare exception the lines are fairly short and they dont try to force you into one of those stupid self-checkouts. (I dont even think they have them here come to think of it?) They have a good deli, bakery, pharmacy and even the produce is decent (for a chain store). Decent meat selection too. Someone asked me the other day how I could afford to shop at Safeway as she shops at Super WalMart. NO THANKS. It is not worth it to go into that place to save a few bucks and besides, Safeway is not that expensive. read more

I went in several times at six. You know, when people who work may be off and able to shop. Deli counter is always shut down, dark and no one to help. If you need something off the shelves you might be fine. Checkout lines new are always long. This is a store that has not kept up with the times in terms of service and customer service. Went to Napa Safeway (the only one in Napa!) at 11.15 am, before the lunch crowd, for the $5 fried chicken. No line, nice deli counter lady, fresh fruit on sale, and fresh fried chicken. Totally happy with my purchases, and not a long wait at check-out. As I'm retired, I really try to shop when all the working people can't - saves a lot of aggravation for everyone! Yesterday, 9/14 at deli buying cut meat, heard a dog bark behind me, turned around and a huge dog was with some guy. Counter lady cutting my meat order, several other ladies cutting meat to hand feed to dog. Yuck. One of these other counter ladies used my ladies meat slicer to cut meat for dog and my lady had to readjust slicer. What is going on? Dogs don't belong in grocery stores. read more

Safeway florist review A friend of mine who is a retired florist had told me that Safeway flowers were of excellent quality, so for my wedding July 8th in Napa, I decided to do my own bridal bouquets and boutineirs. I made one large vase arrangement and had one arrangement made for us by Terry the Safeway florist. I couldn't be more pleased with how the arrangements turned out and I owe it to the high quality of Safeways flowers and especially to Terry their florist. She gave me invaluable information about the flowers, she spent time showing me types of flowers, explaining their behaviors under certain conditions and many other good tips.
