If the Safeway by my house was more like this location I would shop there a lot more. Everything was very easy to find and the folks who work here want to help. I ended up with an Instacart order where someone tried to pull a beer delivery scheme resulting in me having to legally try to return it. I was dreading this as the last time (it was a completely different area and store) was such a complete nightmare. But no, the first person I saw took ownership of the issue and made it so simple. He was that perfect friendly and helpful combo. He wanted to help and that is so refreshing but seems to be the way of this store. That makes a lot of difference is a shopping experience and also makes you want to go back. Their produce actually looked pretty great as well! read more

I went in at 5PM to get maybe 7 things in 3 different isles from one end of the store to the other max and I was stopped by someone telling me there was a guy following me around. When I got to a checkstand I told the emplee Juniper that I was told I was being followed and gave the description of them. Juniper told me it was "PROBABLY" an in store shopper since they wear regular clothes. Which would make sense and be fine but I'm sorry can you tell your "in store shoppers" to not follow the one alone young female around???? And why don't your employees already know the description of your stalkers so they can at least give reassurance and confirm it is an employee when your customers don't feel safe??? I made it through the whole store with maybe 5 things in my cart so I wasn't even a big loss of inventory if I was trying to steal. I didn't even have a purse or pockets and my wallet was visibly in the cart. He had no excuse to be following me of all people. I've been a regular for almost 3 years I come in every other morning before work and I'm always in and out in 5 minutes with around 5 things max and always obviously pays. I even stopped at the deli first and spoke to an employee to get my food so why would I even try to steal after that? In case anyone is here and sees a man of Mexican ethnicity in a tan hat with a tan american flag on it dont worry and have your heart race while checking over your shoulder until you get home like me because its probably just an "in store shopper" like Juniper wants to downplay. Also as an Army Veteran myself seeing someone wearing a hat with the flag on it while literally stalking people and making them uncomfortable isn't a good look and very disrespectful just doing your job or not. Your customers are primarily vulnerable elderly people and someone being following wasn't even taken seriously. Won't be back. read more

On at least three out of five times is its, I have been overcharged. Sometimes one item, often more. This necessitates going to the "customer service" lane, where there is usually a wait. I cannot recall a time where the "customer service" rep ever apologized for the overcharge or the inconvenience. The customer base for this store skews heavily towards senior citizens. The deli service was terrible! I called a day ahead for Kings Hawaiian Pretzel Bites. The deli manager said he'd take 4 out of the freezer to set aside for me (I'm making an appetizer platter for a holiday brunch and that is one of the main items). I got there the next day....long lines. One worker who said she didn't know that product and couldn't find them. She said I had to wait for the deli manager. Deli manager basically ignored her and me. Helped someone behind me for an Uber Eats pick up. Then walked by me again and basically hid in the back! I got her attention through the window. She just sort of stared at me blankly. I said "I'll take some directly from the freezer. Could you at least look? " She finally looked around and went into the freezer then came out, shrugged and shook her head "no". Didn't even say a word to me. Employees were racist toward Asian people at customer service counter. Threw change at them and then made racist comments after they wouldn't apologize for the employees actions. Said "don't touch my shit" when asking for a pen to write a name down so they could remember. Then said "bye hope you don't get in an accident while driving" as they were walking away. I can't tell you how many times I have been, or witnessed others, being treated rudely by staff at this store and it happened again today. It's the day before thanksgiving and I was the first customer in the store upon opening, so you would think that they would all be in fairly decent humor at the start of their shift. I am convinced at this point that the common denominator is poor management and judging by their average rating, I'm probably not wrong. I was in Julie's line behind a man purchasing a couple liters of pop and she was smiling, asked him if he wanted a bag, gave him a discount for no apparent reason, bagged his groceries, and said goodbye, which I thought was really nice since it's the holidays and all. Then it was my turn. I smiled and said hello and got nothing. Not even eye contact. I brought in my own bag and set it on the belt with my items. She set it aside, still folded, in the area where the groceries get placed. I ran my card and since it was appallingly clear I was bagging my own groceries, I took back the bag and went to the end and waited for my items to come down the line. And waited. And waited. She just stood there and didn't once look at me. After realizing she was never going to turn on the belt, I found the button which I didn't realize didn't have a stop sensor, so I'm over there getting overrun with items and while I'm struggling she hands me my receipt without turning it off on her end and simply said thanks. I reached down and turned off the belt, bagged my groceries and left. I have never seen this woman before in my life. There was literally no reason for her to behave this way toward me. read more

This review is specific to the pharmacy department (today's "bitter employee of the month" has the initials "JL" but the majority of staff I encounter there have the same approach to customer service). This is our pharmacy of choice primarily due to location and convenience, NOT due to friendly service. I don't know if the working conditions are such that it makes every employee bitter and un-friendly or if that's just the quality trait they look for when hiring but come on!! If you're that miserable find another job, don't take it out on your customers. If there was another pharmacy that close I would shop there in a heartbeat. read more

I download every digital coupon each week. Not all are applied at checkout. Most do work but I often times have to get help if I'm using self checkout. If I go through the regular checkout lane, I'm less likely to catch the missed coupon. It's frustrating for coupons to not work and then to get home before I realize. Almost every time I go, though it's been mostly on a meat department items (a turkey, a ham, chicken breast) and dairy. Went to this store to pick up a rib roast that they advertised for $4.99 a pound. This was in the morning and they said they were out. I went to customer service to get a rain check and was told I could not get one on any of the advertised meats. What a dump. I only went there bc the deli was closed at the Fred Meyer up the road. The deli is VILE. The worker was stocking shelves outside of the deli, let me wait for minutes before he helped me. He proceeded to not wash his hands, just put on plastic gloves. He had exposed facial hair and no hat on. So gross. I ordered some sliced deli meat, which he tried to grab old pre sliced stuff in a gross bin in the case, which I then saw what I photographed. This Safeway location is good, mainly because the customer service has been above average. I am a big time couponer, and this store is always willing to accept them without any hassle. I've had issues at other stores regarding coupons- either having an attitude about it or being argumentative (I always check expiration dates and product type.) During a time when saving money is important for all of us, it is discouraging and irritating when this happens. Thank god this store is great about it, and I've even had check-out employees congratulate me on my savings! The Deli is the staple of any good grocery store. Today I went to grab a sandwich from there and was greeted by an older woman who right off the bat was rude and short with me about what bread they had. That was fine and I went but as I continued to ask for topping like bacon and avocado she said she didn't know even tho she didn't even bother looking or asking for more. This store looks to be completely renovated. It's actually really nice and my experience in running into multiple employees was that everyone was friendly. We came here specifically for their hidden gem in the deli: the breakfast sandwhiches and burritos. The Safeway closer to us is always out of ingredients to make the breakfast items and leave you standing there for 10 minutes before letting you know. There was a very friendly employee assisting a line of people ordering breakfast. She did a wonderful job and we left extremely happy. Best $2.99 breakfast sandwhich you can find. The kindness of the greetings I receive from workers at the Tigard/King City Safeway can make a difference in my day. From the personal service I have received at the pharmacy, even when they are swamped with work, to the brief conversations I have with check out clerks and baggers, all make me feel as if I am a valued person and customer. I have NEVER written a review about a grocery store but need to vent about this one. Tigard Safeway. Expect to have your purchases rung up incorrectly. Be charged for four cantaloupes instead of 1. Bring in a great coupon for specially priced berries? Expect to be charged full price. Buy cheese at the deli counter and be charged double what was in their ad. This has been my typical experience with Safeway in Tigard. I think this store has a high employee turnover. Sometimes you get nice checkers that know what they're doing and then there are those other days when you get a sulky kid or one that really doesn't know what he's doing at a deli counter...in need of training. I'm going to boycott this store and ignore all their appealing ads. Back to Winco where I see the same faces at the check out every time I go. They don't seem to have the turnover that Safeway does and the service is pleasant not to mention the prices are reasonable. read more

The only reason I have to go to this store is that it is close to my house. They just recently added self-service checkout. This is helped speed up the checkout experience there. However, I was in there yesterday and found the men's restroom smelling of urine and the garbage can way overflowing with paper. Yuk. When I went to checkout, I wanted to use Apple Pay, and was told to go to checkstand 1, where AP was supposed to work. It didn't. The customer service person who came over to help the cashier admitted that Apple Pay works sporadically and randomly for all of the checkout lanes. He didn't know why and didn't seem to care. I think the whole purpose of this store is to test people's patience and to see how long it'll take before someone loses their shit and chokes someone out. They don't have a U-Scan, so you're stuck standing in line at their Express Lane (what an ironic name for this). They have the slowest cashiers I've ever seen working the Express lanes. Anyone who continues to shop here, and not make the mistake like me of stopping in, they are gluttons for punishment. However, I really dislike the Pharmacy and will never use their services again! They have the most antiquated system for refills. Promise a certain time and never ready. This store smells disgusting and the deli meat is foul. I have purchased deli meat and it smelled and tasted off. I have purchased groceries and have had to check the dates before leaving the store. Yesterday was the first day that wearing masks Was Required/mandated by the state. At Safeway on 99 Highway, I observed four employees wearing their mask down, while working in the main Grocery area. Governor Brown said that the masks will be Financially covered by the state And should be available at the door, it is not. If the masks are hot, then wear the light medical ones or take a break outside of the main grocery public space. This is not acceptable, having employees disregard the mandate. read more

Although 3's a crowd signs are all over, checkstands are frequently backed up 8+. Pharmacy is slow and inefficient. I complained 4 times about fresh meat trays being filthy; dried blood with lables stuck to the tray. Finally cleaned up. Bagged slad mixes often go bad before sell by dates. Restooms are a disaster.
